Great setting in the countryside and on the beach. No parking allowed by the units (golf carts can be called for transport if necessary) making it very private and quiet
Poor choice of food options and quality. Not much entertainment as we are far from anything.Expensive for what’s offered.
We really enjoyed our stay in a beach bungalow. The room was spacious and very clean with an amazing bathroom. The property itself was lovely and peaceful (we checked in midweek) and it never felt crowded. We loved the pool and the open air spaces around the bar to relax. The dining options are somewhat limited, and frequently several items on the menu were not available. The buffet breakfast, while varied, was a little off putting with the birds being so close to the food stations. Understandably it’s hot and you want the airflow from outside, however I think it would be wise to invest in some more food coverings. A few extra things in the room such as a few plates and some teaspoons would also be a great addition. Overall we had a great time and loved the private beach the property sits on.
It was ok, room is spacious and comfortable. For the size of the hotel there were very limited spaces next to swimming pool and not very comfortable access to the beach. Reception staff were not really friendly.
Such good potential.
We had a lovely stay, the room was gorgeous. A little disappointed that we would have liked to have hired the bikes and been on a snorkelling trip but no availability for a week. A shame this wasn’t mentioned prior to arriving. We also paid a lot for a themed buffet- the food was average and rather tasteless. Not enough staff for the number of guests- we waited over 40 minutes for a drink by the pool which arrived with no ice and was warm.
Splendid!
We loved our stay, such a beautifully designed bungalow right near the gorgeous beach! Highly recommend spending a peaceful time at this beautiful resort and take advantage of the nearby hikes in the mountains and long walks on the beach. A must is the glass bottom boat nearby to see the sea turtles and a flight over the barrier reef.
Great place to stay. Beautiful area to explore. Breakfast buffet was great but very limited dinning options for lunch and dinner. Wish we would have booked a room with a kitchen. The on-site dinner option opened too late for us as we have two young children and there is no other onsite option other than 4 pizzas to choose from. Even when going into the nearest towns, restaurants opened too late so it was hard to find something decent to eat. As we expected for the time of year the main pool was freezing but we packed the kids wetsuits and they were still happy to swim. The little heated pool was a good temperature to swim in but could get busy. We had a great stay but would probably not return until the kids club is opened back up.
Beautiful location and peaceful. Easy access to Deva park, perfect for people loving hiking, horse riding, biking and access to the beach and golf. Stunning property replicating traditional architecture. Great staff.
We had a lovely relaxing few days as a family visiting from Australia. It was luxurious, quiet and clean and the staff were lovely. We had a hire car and went for a drive one day to break up our stay as we are not into golf and found it a little too quiet and relaxing. The beach is beautiful but is shallow seagrass for a long way out. We used the paddle boards to go out a fair way and look at the coral from above but didn't snorkel - it seemed too far out. We saw turtles out there from the paddle boards though. The pool and surrounds was lovely. The breakfast and dinner buffet were both good.
Peaceful stay at beautiful location
The resort is beautiful and so are the rooms, our room overlooked the golf course and it was easy to call to the front desk to request a pick up by golf cart at all hours. The staff are very pleasant and although English isn't widely spoken, communication was very easy. The room was very clean and spacious, the pics don't do it justice! The drive is easy from Noumea and the route scenic. Breakfast and dinner too was delicious and is so large, you won't really need lunch, but there is an open bistro of sorts right on the water by the pool. Great place for adults and kids alike.
A wonderful unwind and getaway!! BYO breakfast.
We had an incredibly relaxing time here. PLUSes: I absolutely love the reception area, and pool and surrounds. Cocktails brought to the poolside. Lunch! Especially the steak and the shrimps on a skewer with the side choice of roasted pineapple. Just 10!! Bungalow, and the deck and deck furniture on it. Being able to hire bikes. The poolside design and appearance, in all respects, are absolutely lovely and photogenic. MINUSes: Croissants: the most miserable ones I’ve ever found, consistently with uncooked dough in the middle. Midgies always flying over the fruit at breakfast. Breakfast, somewhat blah and remember the price is around NZ$500 a night (all day long a five star price) so food should be better. Having to chase people to get poolside drink delivery. Dirty wooden floors in indoor bar area. Need deep cleaning. Broken bits on outsides of some bungalows. Shabby golf carts (used for first trip to bungalows with bags). The property is really really good but a few aspects as above need a very good refurb. Being unable to turn off a number of lights in our bungalow (room 2) which seemed to be down to a dodgy light switch. All night on.
Unbelievable, everything is perfect! What an amazing place to stay!
All you need, if you want luxury and a relaxing stay away from the tourist spots, look no further
Avoid saturday nights !
Confort was on top, but the hotel was full, and they did not know how to manage it. We have waited 45 min for a cocktail, we'cancelled it because we booked at the restaurant. But.. We had to wait again to go inside and eat. We did not have any glass, s9 we did not drink, and NO ONE came to ask if we wanted smth. I came once on week day it was quiet and it was perfect. I'm disppointed for the price we paid, that's insane (the buffet at 60 usd pp !!)
Beautiful place to stay in New Caledonia. All of the ataff were helpful and friendly. We stayed in the garden bungalow and it had all the amenities you would want including perfect temperature control. Very close to the beach front although due to large amount of sea grass in that area is not great for ocean swimming however the pool is stunning and you can hire kyaks to go out on the water. Great buffet breakfast, would recommend. If you are wanting digital entertainment bring your own because the TV has limited channels and mostly in French, without subtitles. Would recommend the glass bottom boat tour! A highlight of our trip.
Meh
From the moment we arrived, unfortunately the service was not superb. We arrived later at night and were handed a terrible map and informed there was no room service. I was able to work out on my own that there was indeed take away options available and a shuttle to your room. That first impression really was the tone for the rest of the trip. We moved from our standard room to a suite as the room was not up to par. Not reflecting as per the images provided nor a reflection of the price paid. The suite however was very nice. The location is amazing although extremly isolated so if you do go i would recommend getting a hire car. The activities around are based around water, but do you own research and bookings. If you are after sensational food and service this isnt the location for you. You get far more bank for your buck going to Thailand and they seem to want to accomodate and create a lasting experience far more. Also the kids club we found out has been closed for three years due to carona even though images indicate there being a kids club available and was a huge part of us selecting this location. The staff mostly stood around talking and little requests like water were an inconvenience. Positives were the golf, pool and beautiful location. Its a real shame that they cant seem to orgainise themselves as the hotel has the ability to be great if they could find staff that cared.
Buildings and rooms were beautiful. Food was excellent.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The food, breakfast, bar and dinners and outdoor restaurant were great. The girls cleaning the rooms were very very polite and lovely in fact all staff including grounds were very friendly. There is a massive communication gap at the front desk. There is definitely a language barrier, so I'm suggesting that you have a fluent English speaking person at the desk. Juliette was excellent but was not always available. Bookings for tours were mixed up, arriving to find we were not actually book on excursions, but this was through the tour group not front desk. All in all I did really enjoy my stay.
Ayant connu le Sheraton après son ouverture, la qualité et le service ne sont plus les mêmes ! Mais l'emplacement est exceptionnel et l'hôtel très agréable.
Property is clean and pleasant but it’s not your usual 5 star standard.
Great property for a couples break. Beautiful quiet beach and pool area. Clean and picturesque. Great breakfast buffet and good restaurant with fresh fish served. An all round easy going resort, off the beaten track a bit and ideal for a quiet getaway. I recommend staying in one of the bungalows at the edge of the resort for added quietness. We will definitely stay here again.
The setting was lovely, people friendly and accommodating. Information in English was limited so you need to ask about activities etc. The property was tired in places.
Great swimming area and able to relax looking over either the pool or the beach.
1st review in 7 years…. I have experienced long & multiple stays in the following gems : Park Hyatt Sydney, Bulgari Resort Bali, Double Six Seminyak, Fullerton Singapore, Dolder Grand Zurich, Kempinski Geneva, Unique Sao Paulo & Unique Garden Maipora, Emiliano Sao Paulo… After experiencing the above, every “Corporate Hotel” is just ….. you know….so I shifted to Airbnb : cost efficient couldn’t feel like a “room number” anymore. Airbnb are not that common in New-Caledonia so I booked 1 night in the Sheraton Deva just expecting a decent bed & a Balcony ……….. I found my new “Happy Place”… no jokes !! Location : great Standards : what you can expect for a 5* hotel What’s the “Plus” ??? : - Reception, Service, Kitchen, HK, Pool….. Sheraton Deva staff & management are just the greatest bunch of passionate people I’ve net in 1 location. I’ve connected with more team members in Deva in 3 nights than in the 100 hotel I stayed in before Covid over a 25 years career. Smiles, conversations, sharing stories, feeling like you belong……. It changes everything To you International Travellers out there, you know exactly what I mean Try it, you will fall in love with the people & the location PS : This is not a 2’ room service delivery, this is a place to relax & break free from the ususal rattle & Hum. Welcome in your home away from home
top!
Great place to play golf
The golf course at Sheraton Deva is first rate and great fun to play. There are plenty of other things to do in the area, hiking and biking being the most popular.
Very comfortable suite, good breakfast buffet
super sejour en famille
c'était super nous avons eu beau temps la suite etait magnifique propre spacieuse, le service parfait
amenities were fantastic, great layout and very comfortable rooms. staff were all fantastic and very helpful. kids loved the buggies. it was wonderful that they catered so well for gluten free dining, which is very hit and miss in new cal. we were there for the new years eve party which started at 9.30. it would have been great if an earlier start to include young kids was thought about as this would allow more families to be involved. the only other minor thing was that the time waiting for meals in the creek bar was usually quite long, but all in all a wonderful stay.
The golf course was in very bad condition. Nothing like the advertised pictures. The food was horrible and overpriced and the resort is very isolated so there is no other option but to eat there. Overall, very disappointing
Further from the airport than we imagined so a car is a must. The hotel was great, clean, staff were friendly. The resort is spread out so staff will ferry you around in golf carts. Food is expensive and is ok, but booking a package with breakfast would be advisable.
Absolutely gorgeous! Right on a beach and golf course. Also right next to mountain bike and horse riding. Trails for walking and soft sand beach. We saw a turtle and sea snake on the beach and a crab in the nearby mangroves. There are pockets of trees and shrubs between the units, so it's very private. We watched swamp hens with their fluffy chicks from our balcony. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. The public lounge, bar and restaurant has lovely view over the pool. Very relaxing. Perfect place for a special occasion!!
Outstanding location on a tranquil white sand beach. Great facilities and beautiful walks and activities nearby
Tout était très correcte , très bon séjour ici au Sheraton de déva
Beautiful settings/surrounds. If you don’t feel like travelling to one of the nearby villages to eat, or don’t have a car, the Deva has 3 separate eateries.
TV didnt work Internet kept dropping out Someone elses name on TV Room key didnt work but was replaced
Lovely setting, beautiful helpful staff always with a smile !
staff not properly trained, not enough entertainment, poor english in the staff, and the beach is good
Beautiful room, very comfy bed. Friendly & helpful staff. Good gym and spa. Beach not great for swimming better for water activities but the pool is fabulous. Local Poe beach is for beach swimming. Food at the restaurants was delicious. It's 1.5hrs drive from the airport so organise a shuttle bus pick-up or hire car. We would definately stay here again.
The beach bungalows were wonderful - roomy, well designed, comfortable beds and the verandahs were comfortable with beautiful views. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Because the resort is very isolated there is not much else except what is on offer at the resort. This makes is very restful but after a week we were feeling the limitations of the menu. We enjoyed the glass bottom boat excursion and snorkelling.
Beautiful hotel, clean and comfortable. However, too isolated. Staff very slow. Room key failed many times. Didn’t provide for 3 people in the room. ( only 2). Food and drink very expensive. No alternative. Transport provided by hotel very expensive.
Not 5 star in my opinion, but was a comfortable and clean resort with friendly staff. Food was expensive and average at best.
We stayed in a beach bure and it was very beautiful and spacious. The only problem was we couldn't sleep during the night due the Mutton birds feeding their young under the bure. The birds were very loud and woke us up every night. We stayed early January and we're not sure whether this happens all year round.
Very far from center and airport expensive transport. Hotel is nice but isolated and have limited options for activities. Beach is not swimmable. Room is big yet forst noght we had 4 Gecko’s (reptile) inside the room and could not sleep. Locals says this hotel is mostly used by locals and limited tourists stay in it. Overall very friendly staff, fair nice quite hotel (not a five star)
Do not recommend at all! Food is disgusting and so expensive, couldn’t go to dinner as my sister was allergic to the cats that were roaming all around and jumping on the tables eating food off peoples plates. Not much of a beach doesn’t look like the pictures. We took a taxi into town to get food and the taxi guy was such a rip off he charged per person cost 4 people 140 AUD to go 20 mins into town. Do not send your kids to kids club as a child there who happened to be a staff members child was bullying and physically hurting kids when we told staff about this they said my nephew was not welcome there because he has autism even tho we had told the staff when we dropped the kids off. This holiday was the biggest waste of time and money.
Nice hotel.Lunch staff in attentive but food ok. Great bar/lounge area.Room very nice and comfprtable
Fantastic location with magnificent beach. A very impressive resort, however although there were very few guests staying at the resort the toilets next to the pool stunk and obviously had not been cleaned for some time which got us thinking what it would have be like if it was busy. There were also signs that certain parts had not been maintained to a high enough standard for the calibre of this resort. Apart from the things mentioned the rooms were very good and the staff very friendly and helpfull. We enjoyed our stay.
great facilities, nice rooms, amazing pool. Bad experience at the restaurant. Staff was unprofessional and clearly annoyed by us. Just as an example we had to wait 1h10 for pre-dinner cocktails and when they started to serve dinner we still did not have any cocktails. Definitely, the restaurant was understaffed and the manager was not professional. The room did not have hot water after one guest took bath so the second guest had to take cold shower. Besides that the hotel was great, beautifully located, good facilities and amenities. Amazing design of the hotel.
Hotel was excellent and the facilities were also. Great value for money on our deal.
The staff was absolutely outstanding in hospitality and professionalism. Yes, meals are expensive but they are worth it.
Amazing hotel
Great hotel. Make sure you have stuff you want to do at the resort as there’s not a great deal otherwise to do in the area
Great stay at Sheraton Deva
Gregory and the front desk team and Kevin, Suzanne, Scott and the Golf team were fantastic and went out of their way to accommodate all our requests.
Overrun with children, and no transportation
What a disappointment! This is a very nice resort, and my wife and I paid extra to get a beach-side bungalow, which was excellent. We were very happy about that. However...What we didn't count on was that the place was full with young families. So full, that we couldn't sit by pool as all chairs were taken; families had even taken chairs from the beach-side restaurant to sit on . The hotel also run out of pool towels as there were simply too many people there. Another big disappointment was the lack of transport options to and from the resort. The hotel seemingly has only one shuttle run per day at midday. Taxis are non existent- especially to take you on a 2 hour journey north from the airport to the hotel. My wife and I, and one other passenger, were made to wait 3 hours at the airport (for another arriving plane) before our driver would take us to the hotel. There were no taxis or any other options available to us. Normally I'd book Private transfers directly with the hotel when arriving, but it just wasn't available to us on this trip. When we tried to secure the hotel transport for the return leg, we were told that it wouldn't be leaving until too late. To their credit, hotel management did provide a free cocktail each for the inconvenience on arrival...but it still doesn't; make up for losing half a day of precious holiday time. Overall - I can't recommend this as a couples escape.
Gorgeous resort, freidnly staff - Highly recommended.
Great relaxing stay, just a few issues
Overall I'd say this is a great resort if you want to get away from it all. Be sure to stay in one of Bungalows as they are simply amazing! There are a few things though that do take the resort down a few notches though. PROS: - Bungalows are one of the best rooms I've stayed in. Ever. They are very comfortable and cozy, and have great places to sit and relax. As well they have very nice patios where you can sit and take in the fresh air. - The pool is great. It's beautiful, with lots of shaded area, and the pool chairs are generously spaced. You aren't jammed in right next to someone in most cases. - Breakfast is fantastic! There's a huge spread of all kinds of foods, and it's definitely your best chance to eat lots of fruits and vegetables as well as all the usual breakfast foods and pastries. There is one issue, see below. - The grounds are expansive and nice to walk around. Also, right nearby are great hikes and trails. CONS: - The food does run a bit expensive, but that would be okay if it were just a bit higher quality. More local produce and healthy options would also be nice. And the snack options are very limited. Not good when there is nothing nearby. - The birds in the dining room. There are lot of small birds that seem to enjoy snacking on the poppy seed muffins in the morning. But worst of all they are shooed away but the muffins are left there for guests still to eat. Yikes! That has to be a health hazard.
Great experience
A wonderful place to stay. Staff very friendly and helpful. Road signage if you are driving yourself is non existent. Food great. location fantastic. Would take the family.
We loved our stay at the resort, wish we could have stayed a couple more days! Absolutely stunning location and resort facilities.
In need of maintnance
The hotel needs repairs to all driveways. Many pool loungers broken, most umbrellas ripped. No towels were available poolside on our first day and no apology offered. We were disappointed with the restaurant - or lack of them there was only one. Not a 5 star experience.
For golfers
Excellent for golfers only. Poor beach.
Excellent resort, beautiful rooms and facilities and excellent service. Great buffets. Nice beach but beware of the sea kraits on the walking tracks nearby. Location not that great. East coast more scenic and greener.
Wonderful Hotel
We had a lovely start. Having bikes to get around made it a lot of fun. The rooms were great. The room I booked was to small, so we asked for a bigger room the next day. They did this and the price wasn't to bad, with what we were given. The pool is great to relax around and in. Restaurant was lovely, and they were helpful with myself unable to eat nuts. The staff were also very helpful and polite. Thanks for an awesome stay.
Beautiful views of the beach
I stayed at the beach-facing private bungalow and was very happy with what I got. Our bungalow was located furthest from the main area and was very private and quiet. We loved the size of the place and quality of furniture. We thought it was too cluttered and found it difficult to walk around. For e.g there won't be a need for 4 sitting areas if it's just the two of us! The only downside is that staff seems to take a while to respond to requests. For e.g our front door lock had a fault and we were unable to enter the premises on our second day. We were told this would be fixed in 15 minutes but it turned out to be almost an hour. It was a good thing we had a late check out time and have nothing planned for the day. Upon check out, we called the hotel desk for a buggy to pick us up from the premise with our baggage and they have forgotten our request. But they quickly apologized and sent another one after 20 minutes' of waiting. All in all, I greatly recommend this hotel. It's about 2 and a half hours drive from Noumea but worth it!
A beautiful spot
We spent two nights here, and found it very pleasant. The room was clean and quiet, the staff were charming, and the location was to die for. A few little niggles around the edges - particularly given the tariff - the wifi was so slow as to be almost unusable (and it took an enormous amount of effort to get on to it), the bathroom basin leaked all over the floor, and an electrician had to come into our room twice while we were using it in order to turn some fuse on or off (he said there was an air conditioning fault). And the restaurant food, given the prices, was really ordinary - we had fish and chips, and the fish had had the life well and truly cooked out of it. However, the breakfast buffet was excellent, and we really enjoyed the peace and quiet. On our second morning, we went for a walk along the beach and encountered a banded sea krait, which was a bit of a highlight of the trip for us (just glad we weren't swimming in the lagoon!).
Just the trick
This resort and New Caledonia is rated by the Travel Advisor as safe. The perfect place to relax, unwind and distress. Very indulgent, sunning on the day beds, having treatments in the spa, lots of walking on the beaches, playing beach sports and enjoying top class food, champagne and many cocktails. The staff were excellent and very attentive. Laying by the pool, just thinking about a cocktail and a staff member was there to take the order. It was a novelty and fun to ride our own bikes for transport. Our 'superior' bungalow on the golf course was perfect. Unfortunately on the down side, I pulled a muscle in my back in the yoga class which indicates to me there wasn't enough 'warm up'.
Decadent!
OMG! This was a treat for sure. Though there are alot of bungalows, they are so private from each other, great design. Gorgeous furnishings, fantastic features, spacious. We walked in and immediately wanted to change our next accommodation to stay longer! Didn't have time to make use of any of the facilities except the restaurant. Dinner was delicious. Love that you can just borrow a bike to get around the complex. It is a very cool place! Choose the A-La-Carte option for breakfast. Pay for exactly what you eat. Buffet breakfast was NZ$50 p/p. Far too expensive.
5 Star dissapointment
The most expensive hotel in New Caledonia and the biggest disapointment of them all! Staff always ignorant and not interested in the guests. No 'welcome' on arrival, no 'good bye' at departure. The main building and the rooms in traditional thatched houses are beautiful but the grounds around them and all the little pathways remind me of a camping ground. it's the only hotel that still charges for the internet!
Amazing resort, beautiful setting
We stayed in a Beachfront Bungalow for 4 nights in March 2017 for our Honeymoon. We loved how peaceful and relaxing it was and the food in the resort restaurants was superb. The only things that were a bit disappointing was the price of the food, with the breakfast buffet not included in the price (we ended up doing it once and then getting cereal and milk from a local supermarket to get us by the other 3 mornings) and the fact that we advised when booking that it was our honeymoon and there was nothing special done for us. Eg. chocolates in the room on arrival or a bottle of champagne. A small gesture that would have made us feel very excited and special, but it was completely overlooked.
Very relaxing and enjoyable.
I had visited this resort with friends. We enjoyed our stay to each personal's own preferences. Swimming pool is really good. From there we can see the emerald sea and white sand beach. Quite a amazing experience!
Perfect just what I needed
The hotel staff were the best food was great and I was lucky enough to have beautiful weather too
Relaxing short break
Room was spacious beach bungalow balcony loooked over the ocean which was great. Bathrooms were spacious and perfectly set up. Air conditioner could have been a touch better. Buggy service to rooms was unreliable. Pool service was fantastic, hiring sup boards and boat to the reef was easy and done perfectly. Breakfast staff were fantastic. Overall a great and easy stay
Great resort away from everything else
We had a family vacation at the resort. We chose this resort because of the golf course onsite and the sheltered lagoon for the kids to swim and snorkel in. We were a little surprised to find out on arrival that the lagoon was closed to guests because of a previous shark attack! Nonetheless the resort team were great. It is a long way to get there (around 1.5 tp 2.0 hours drive from the airport and there is not much else around the resort (there is a nice little village nearby). Despite the relative isolation it was still a great time and the staff really stood out in terms of helping with everything we needed.
Beautiful hotel, relaxing stay
Beautiful hotel, long way out of Noumea. Food and drink expensive but good discounts when using the Star Privilege card. Not really enough activities for a long stay ( we stayed 8 days ) and food got a bit boring. Great buffet breakfast though. Really need to speak French as only reception staff speak English. Would be awesome for a couple needing a relaxing break of 4 or 5 days. Glass bottom boat and snorkelling trip was amazing- we went twice! Water is crystal clear.
Nice looking resort with an excellent golf course.
Our experience at this resort (2 adults / 2 late teens) was fine with the exception of the food offering and the fact that only a few of the staff spoke English. The resort is quite isolated, which in itself is fine, however there is only one restaurant of 3 that is open at night and all have basically the same menu. The food is not good and very expensive. We don't mind parting with good money for great food and good service but such was this issue that we had to procure food for breakfast, lunch and dinner from a local supermarket about 15mins away, that we could prepare in the room (2 bedroom) in a small kitchenette. We also heard from others that the food offered (and especially drinks) was overly priced for what was offered so actually took our own dry goods and wine with us from New Zealand. We did not expect the same pricing as New Zealand but did expect great food and at least good service. The room we had facing the golf course was superb in design, cleanliness, ambience, space and comfort. With the exception of a small ant infestation and a faulty kettle, we were most pleased. The golf course was also excellent; what a course. Make sure you take with you a bucket of balls because not only is the rough on every hole extremely unforgiving, balls at the golf shop will set you back a bomb, even the second hand ones. Even though one struggled to communicate with staff in any detail, they were all very friendly. Very few guests in the winter while weather was sublime.
Luxury in natural surroundings
We enjoyed the quiet and friendly atmosphere of the resort. The facilities were great. Lovely bungalow. Spa gym pool grounds food staff were all quality. Weather in July was a nice 18 to 28. Good base to explore the beauty of the region. Have to mention that it was hard to find the turnoff from Bourail to get to Deva. Get proper instructions first as locals don't speak a lot of English.
Totally relaxing break
My wife and I came here looking for a break from a stressful year- WE GOT IT The facilities were excellent, the service was exceptional, but the staff were outstanding-nothing was too much trouble. Our french was limited but this was not a problem as most of the staff had some level of English. If you want a break from a hectic lifestyle, and just want to kick back, relax by the pool, have a round of golf, eat drink and be merry - this is the place for you.
3 Day break at Deva Resort
Great bed, lovely swimming pool. Quality of food good. Free wifi reception only, paid wifi in room poor. Lack of snack dining regrettable. Would welcome free fruit bowl in reception. Distance from airport painful
Returned from there last week
The resourt and the service are excellent. However, it is far away from everything, and unless you hire a car, you may find it boring. If you came to relax and unwind, it is the perfect place to stay. The beach is closed at the moment, because an elderly woman was attacked by the tiger shark three weeks ago and died. The beach at the back is part of the UNESCO protected area and it can be expected to have some sharks there. It is worth noting that it was the first event of this kind in that area. For those on a shoe string budget, I'd suggest to look elsewhere, but New Caledonia in general is not a cheap destination. I am aware that few vistors complained because some staff could not speak English. From my experience, this is not a major obstacle. Even in the nearby Boureail we successfuly communicated with the people who didn't know a single word of English. And my French is not any beter.
Beautiful beachside bungalow
My review will likely reiterate some of the shared views of other reviewers. -Upon recommendations on tripadvisor, we decided to splurge for the beachside bungalow. The bungalow itself was beautiful in décor and the ocean-view, worth it. -We arrived during low-season; it felt private and spacious, not your typical resort experience! - The beach is not a swimming beach, but we quite enjoyed walking it. We were able to see stingrays close to shore, fish and a tricot raye (beautiful at a distance). We met one other couple on our entire beach walk. So private, so nice! -We really enjoyed the complimentary bike and kayak rentals (also paddle boards available) -The staff were patient and kind; my French is no where near perfect, but they allowed me to practice and offered assistance when I began to struggle. They were also very attentive to our needs. -Numerous nice hiking trails outside the hotel. -The drive out to the Sheraton was a bit long 2-2.5 hours, but very scenic. -Some of the food was quite nice (mahi mahi; duck; creme brule); other items I found average in flavour and over-priced. I expected this when arriving, from previous reviews. -One night my husband was violently ill; we suspect that this may be due to food poisoning at the hotel due to symptoms/onset. -You pay for everything on top of your room (e.g., wifi) - as long as you know this upfront you can prepare for the expenses. It was an expensive 2 days.
Expensive but lovely.
The hotel was lovely, we were only there overnight so didn't get chance to look around very much. Our room was a long way from the hotel facilities.
On the golf course by the beach.
Very peaceful and quiet hotel. Great swimming pool. Super friendly staff. Our room was a bit far away from reception but we managed to get bikes which helped. Thre is also a buggy service but couldnt see it late at night. On the downside..some room soft furnishings were badly stained and probably should have been removed.
great hotel on the beach.
great spot to spend your holidays. Wonderful swimming pool and lagoon
Excellent resort. Lovely staff and amenities. Quiet. Kids club is fantastic....if your kids speak French.
Outstanding rooms and very kind service. While the hotel is remote, that adds to its charm creating a very relaxing holiday experience.
Great architecture and design; warm, friendly staff. Lovely pool area, well-serviced by staff. Great gift shop - good selection, prices.
Great hotel. It's new and everything is clean. Staff are very friendly. Food is not cheap, but it's good.
Stunning hotel with everything you need
My partner and I stayed at the Sheraton for a night before flying back to Aus. The staff are lovely, the resutrants and buffet breakfast were amazing. The shower was incredible and the bed was super comfortable. I wouldnt recommend the room service food and the gym only has limited equipment but the spa and pool areas were amazing though and overall a great experience.
No swimming can be done
Each time we call for the transport, we had to wait 15 mins, end up walking most of the time takes around 15 mins to the main reception. For others its a distance to get to the Hotel, its better in a private car, taxi is very expensive and public transport like buses not sure if it goes to the area
Shopping around gave us a memorable visit
We booked the hotel at the last minute, when touring round New Caledonia. And were really pleased with the price we paid for a top-of-the-range hotel. Shopping around on the Internet really paid off. Finding the hotel was interesting - there are no signs to it! (PS You go through the park entrance) Our room was fantastic, but a long way away from the main building. But there are golf trolleys and bicycles to get you around. Dinner in the restaurant was expensive - but we expected that (eating out anywhere in New Caledonia is expensive), and the quality was good.
Sheraton Guaro Deva - WE
Rural retreat - pleasant and relaxing.
A beautiful break
My partner and I stayed at the sheraton for 4 nights, we had an amazing time. The hotel is probably one of the most beautiful 5 star hotel we ever stayed at. The architecture of the building is just breath taking and the location of the resort right between the lagon and the mountains makes it very special. if you are someone looking to do plenty of activities or just to relax this is the right place for you. The resort offers free paddle boarding & kayaking, VTT bikes are also available to go around the resort. The staff of the hotel was super nice, always smiley and willing to help. I would recommend to hire a car from the airport as it is cheaper than taking the navette/bus, if is also quite convenient if you wish to visit other places and eat at other restaurants in the nearest villages. Unlike lots of reviews that I saw, we loved the food at the restautants of the hotel, although we found it quite expensive.
Isolated & Boring
We drove up from the Busier Noumea for a night, limited signs to find this place dreadful !! No much happening here the pool was freezing and really quite cramped considering the size of the Hotel land, the beach wasn't the nicest either soft clay and plantation.
Wedding anniversary
Came here on our way up north and then when returning back down south. It was a great spot to spend our 25th wedding anniversary, the place was lovely, a great relaxing atmosphere and very freiendly and helpful hotel staff.
Staff and management were amazing in very very tough conditions.
