Overall, it is worse than Shangri-La Cebu Mactan. The sunset isn't particularly spectacular, but it's acceptable. Breakfast is not tasty. The staff are not friendly.

Nice staff, good facilities, really enjoyed

Just excellent. Also, great for those who bring their children.

I have traveled the world many times. Over 1,000,000 miles in the air last I checked. I have stayed in slums and I have stayed in resorts. This is the best place I have stayed by far and for a great price. The food was great, staff was very friendly and attentive, all spoke English pretty well. The room service was divine and the buffets were insanely assorted and delicious. It is a short boat ride to different islands for snorkeling and water activities. Additionally if you upgrade you get access to free food and alcohol for afternoon tea and adults time in the restaurant. They also have so many activities for children and you can drop your child around 11am and have that romantic vacation you have been wanting while your kids play.

Stayed in Tanjung ocean view which got nice sunset view. All staff- room service, breakfast room , pool area, are all excellent. Check in was good, got upgrade . Pool was very old but maintained very well and clean. Beach area was not that good. Breakfast got everything, fresh juice, fruits pomelo etc. noodle sections. As mentioned before by others late check out is not allowed even when hotel is less than a third full. We were given “ star lounge access for staying on but as mentioned by others nothing in there except toilets.

We loved the property with one exception: despite complaining nothing was done about the fact that we had only cold water in the shower for four days.

Kids facilities are amazing which it’s important for families. The outdoor bbq buffet and shows was amazing The staff was very kind and helpful Lorena, and Ann from the lounge

The staff was very friendly and helpful. I like the diversity in the staff employed (age, gender and ability). Some areas can do with a spruce up (floor of the pool).

Exceptional staff and hotel

What a delightful stay ! From the moment we walked up the steps to the sound of the gong ,cool towels and refreshing drinks- friendly and accommodating staff - we knew we were in for a treat . Hotel surrounds and pool are beautiful , the yoga class in the morning right next to the water was a lovely way to start the day. Food plentiful and delicious with a huge variety of dishes. Always something going on and yet blissful places to be still and relaxed. The staff are always smiling and will go out of their way to help .Best 4 days we have spent in a long time - we will be back for sure - terima kasih Shangri La Tanjung Aru for a wonderful stay .

Beautiful, family friendly resort.

We loved our stay, the hotel is beautiful, with fantastic facilities. The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel so welcome. The breakfast selection was extensive, and although busy when we were there, it was very well managed. We had access to the Club Lounge, and this was fabulous. The pool was wonderful. We also used the Star Jetty for an island transfer and water sports and the service here was great too. All in all, a fantastic hotel for a family holiday, and we would very much recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay for 3 nights at the hotel. 3 nights went by so quickly that we wished that we could have stayed longer. The facilities offered by the hotel are excellent especially for families with children. Special mention to receptionist Dzarif for making our stay more memorable with the seaview room. Will really come back to stay in the hotel again in the future.

This a family resort which has a great location and beach area, however for the cost of the room the cleaning and overall maintenance in the room was terrible. We had a giant cockroach in the bathroom and mould in the silicon and grout of the bath. Not worth the 500 dollars a night price tag no matter how good the facilities

A little lustre lost from this previous jewel

We spent eight days at the Tanjung Aru in January. This was to be a bit of a nostalgia trip for me as I had last stayed here 30 years ago. First the positives. The attentiveness and friendliness of the staff were fantastic - special mentions have to go to Adie who served us at breakfast and James the head concierge. The view across to the islands is as beautiful as I remember and the different swimming pools are large enough to accommodate a lot of people and they are well segregated, with children in mind. I was however, disappointed with the standard of upkeep and maintenance. Paint was chipping in some areas and there was a lot of dust in places which should have been cleaned. Food was good although not as varied as I remember. There is a good Chinese restaurant but no European specialties. More variety would have been nice. Overall we enjoyed our holiday but some of the lustre of years ago has gone. Staff management is great but more attention needs to be paid to the fabric.

Overall good no regrets

All staffs are nice! Great options of restaurant, have variety of food at breakfast buffet. The SPA was great as well! Very relax stay.

Popular Hotel Great for Families & Kids

Convenient location to many places within the city. Hotel has several restaurants, games and activities, pools but beach was a disappointment, very small like a man-made pool. Seems like a popular hotel with many corporate and private events happening almost everyday. Great for families with children, not for adults who are looking for a quiet getaway. Housekeeping needs improvement though, have to remind them on some days to clean the room.

By far the best in Kota Kinabalu

Wonderful hotel with great staff and an unbeatable location only 10 minutes from the airport. Facilities are excellent, as is the service from everyone who works there. Highly recommended for a weekend getaway

All that I met as staff was cheerful, accommodating, helpful in every way possible to make my stay a great one.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Did not like that all f&b / services are cashless. Even buying an icecream cone need to use credit card or digital pay.

A little piece of heaven

We had an amazing stay at this hotel. The rooms were really spacious and decor was really nice. The bed was huge and very comfortable Costs of drinks and food was very reasonable and were sad to leave. Would defintely come back to stay Staff were lovely and everyone very helpful

We are extremely pleased with the level of service provided by the team. It was the first time I could what app the team to make requests and the team was very prompt to reply. We felt really comfortable and well cared for throughout our stay. I would like to extend a special mention to the recreation manager Mr Ojes. We had some hiccups when we were trying to book the sea walking activity, Mr Ojes was very prompt to rectify the situation, turning a potentially negative experience into a positive one. His exceptional service truly made a difference. Thank you again for a fantastic stay. We will enthusiastically recommend your hotel to friends and family, and we look forward to returning for another visit in the future.

beautiful serene and peaceful

Good for families

Very nice hotel near the airport with comfortable rooms and good food. The only thing I didn’t like was the Al the children focused playgrounds and swimming pool and game room etc. Definitely a family oriented hotel.

Disappointing

I’m really surprised by the good reviews. The room and condition of the hotel is so dirty and shabby - especially for the price point. It was raining so we were in the room, we’d rather have been back at home; it was not luxurious or pleasant. The carpets are stained, the furniture is tired, the walls are dirty. Service took over 1 hour to deliver ice-bucket. Hotel is booked /packed so forget honouring any gold member privileges for upgrades or late checkouts (we managed to extend by 1 hour after much awkward negotiation). Breakfast was wide variety but below average (we went to a cafe outside inside). In-room dining was better than expected. Facilities are good for kids and nice views. Good live band and staff were pleasant. We had a baby cot that was made of metal bars , and very little padding (eg a sheet). Our baby hit her head off the bars. Overall the hotel rooms are long overdue a facelift.

I like the sunset bar and facilities in the hotel. The door for balcony is hard to open and the door is hard to press the lock button.

Great staff and horizon club room is excellent. Rooms were large and cleaned daily. Breakfast was ‘very,very’ busy if you went after 8am but loads of choice. Had the seafood buffet one night and it was worth the money as there are lots of choices, not just seafood. A bit disappointed there was a permanent red flag on the beach and we did walk to the Tanjung Aru public beach where there is an ‘outlet’ stream flowing into the sea with literally black and stinking water flowing out, not sue I would want to go in after seeing that so near to the hotel. Other than that we couldn’t fault it

Great location for a long weekend.

We went for a long weekend, the location was great which allowed us to maximize our time. Only 10-15 minutes from the airport. The rooms are comfortable and property is beautiful. The food is okay, but not great. There's nothing nearby so you must eat all your meals here. Breakfast is a big buffet with lots of choice. Loved the yoga offered on the weekend. So sad that such a big hotel, can't offer yoga on other days as well. The spa is very beautiful.

overall are good only upon check-in did they actually give me the wrong room, whereas another guest was still inside. I need to walk all the way back to get to the right room.

Amazing stay! Large compound with many facilities. Enjoyed the huge, well equipped gym, the Sunset bar and the buffet breakfast. Wide varieties and delicious food. Love their club sandwich, big portion, good quality and delicious.

Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Loved the range of amenities - although the spa was sold out the entire time we were there which was unfortunate. The sunset bar was my absolute favourite place to be!

Superb.

The hotel itself is great. It’s situated next to the sea and the views are just amazing. However, we can’t say the same for their service. From the get go, no one offered to help us with our luggage when we arrived, and yet have the audacity to point the ramp to us, so we can wheel the bags ourselves. The check in lady was mediocre-friendly, at best. The pool side service from Coco Joe’s is a joke. The staff themselves had no idea what is going on, most of the time. No one came to serve us, so we decided to walk over there to place the order. Someone came when the food came and they had no clue what is going on, as we can see them bickering among themselves. Service at this hotel is definitely lacking, especially for a 5 star hotel.

Enjoy the Horizon lounge upon arrival and check in there . Great breakfast and go with Star Marine to island hopping :)

Super nice hotel right on the front.

Stayed for five nights following a 10 day jungle type trip. Lovely hotel with excellent, friendly and very polite staff. It’s right on the water front and has its own little beach. Fab location. It has its own Star Marina pier with a wide variety of water sports and boat trips available. We only used the restaurant (Cafe Tatu) for breakfast as we prefer to mix it out in KK in the evening. The breakfast was excellent with a massive variety of food from Malaysian, Chinese and European. The only thing lacking was perhaps a wider variety of fresh fruit. Some real exotic stuff would have been brill. Maybe this is seasonal? Nice pool area right on the front. Smart gym, super nice spa with all manner of treatments. This is a big hotel and is furnished beautifully throughout. It is set out to allow ease of access to all areas and it works. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. The sunsets are amazing and you can stroll straight from the hotel all the way down the beach. Checkin and checkout was simple and our Hotels.com booking was immediately recognised.

Relaxing break

Enjoyable, relaxing, great facilities. Drinks were expensive. Staff were extremely polite and remembered you.

Great service, but place a bit tired looking

Perhaps we came from a new city hotel before checking, hence we find the rooms a bit old and musty. Otherwise for a beach resort, it is excellent. Sunset bar is a must go! Lovely views and drinks. Service was impeaccable from all your staff !

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Shangri-la Tanjung Aru. We requested for a quiet room and this was provided to us. Kevin, a staff at the Horizon Lounge was very hospitable and helpful throughout our stay there. The hotel rooms are updated with latest amenities ie. Bluetooth speakers, smart TVs and is very clean. We really enjoyed our stay and are already looking forward to going back!

there is only one thing i'm not feeling comfortable which is hotel allowing outside people accessing the hotel, especially the sunset moment.

This is my third time at this property. I stayed at the Tanjum wing (which I like more), and this time I stayed at the Kinabalu wing for the second time. The rooms in this wing have not gotten any changes for the last 10 years. USB charging outlets and a Nespresso machine are reserved for the executive and horizon rooms. Otherwise the experience at this resort does not disappoint.

Overall the staff are friendly and helpful but the hotel needs to pay more attention to details. They messed up my luggage with others which surprise me. Though I understand that there are many departures and arrivals in one day, this is something that a hotel should not be messed up. The DM and Concierge was quick in response when I complained.

This property is beautiful. It took a over an hour to get a spa me it sent to the room which was a little frustrating and the shower stall is very small...standing in the middle I looked up to the water to rinse my face and banged my head on a corner of the wall behind me. Very weird placement and extremely painful so keep mind of the space. They give slippers which was a great bonus and the ambiance of the room was delightful. The breakfast had so many choices! As Chinese New Year is approaching the hotel is decorated beautifully!!!! I would highly recommend making sure you can view sunset if possible, it’s gorgeous. So other than the very hurt head it was a great experience. I stayed at the le meridian other day and I like this property a lot better. It’s a bit further out from the main city, but not bad.

A great place with younger children

It’s a really nice hotel for families with younger children. The pools, the food and the facilities are great. The only disappointment we had was the beach, actually the sea. The beach had the red flag and was closed all nights we stayed due to the stingy jellyfish. I hope the hotel could bring in more efforts to protect and clean its lagoon.

Excellent services & comfortable

The only feedback I have is that there should be washroom near the beach or the rainforest tent where we had our private lunch.

Lots to do, food was very expensive in comparison to other hotels/resorts.

On our first stay we had a few issues with cleanliness but when we returned at the end of our trip the hotel made up for it We had a beautiful room that was very clean and had a great view.

Nice vacation

It was a pleasant stay for my family, my kids enjoyed the place and water activities.But the inclusive beverages should be in all places in the resort not limited in the lounge.

깨끗하고 편안한 호텔이었다

객실은 매우 깨끗했고, 특히 조식이 좋았다. 또한 수영장도 잘 되어 있었는데 성인풀 수심이 170cm이상이라 키가 작은 분들이나 수영이 미숙한 분들은 꼭 라이프자켓을 빌려서 수영하시길 추천한다. 말레이시아 특성상 주류는 호탤내에서 매우 비싸므로 추천하지 않는다.

방 2개를 예약했는데 당연히 가까운곳으로 배정할줄 알았는데. 층이 틀리더라고요. 다시 배정받는데 시간걸렸고 타올등 준비가 안되어 있어서 요청 했었습니다.

체크아웃후 라운지 이용이 가능한점이 너무 좋았음

올드 하다고 해서 많이 걱정 했는데 생각보다 괜찮아요 조식 생과일쥬스가 일품 입니다.

子連れで宿泊しました。プールのスライダーは少し小さいけれど、スピードもそれなりに出て大人も楽しめます。 全体的にしっかり管理されていて綺麗で快適でした。
