The property is run impeccably with friendly, first rate service. Our rooms were clean, comfortable, and had great views. The breakfast buffet had a very large selection and everything was fresh and delicious. The staff was happy to accommodate our requests and help out whenever possible. Overall a great experience and would stay here again!

Excellent hotel

Amazing Stay at Shang!

Great Location. Big and Clean Room with a spectacular view of the river and the bridge. Great Breakfast and services. Nothing wrong with my stay. Two Thumbs up!

We checked in twice this week by Front Desk Yvonne Liu - she provided exceptional service and prioritizes customer. Bellman Ma also exceptional service attentive and helpful. Overall pleasant stay with staff and service. Would have appreciated clean windows to view the garden view clearly.

Great location, nice for walking along the river walkways, lots of restaurants and bars in the area , coffee shops around also.

Shangri-La does it right.

I highly recommend staying in a room with business lounge access. They provide a buffer breakfast, afternoon tea and buffer happy hour. A lovely stay.

React and solve the issue promptly. Staffs are pleasant and helpful. Food is good and fresh.

Horizon Club is a Must have to differentiate from other hotels and service..

Charge assessed by hotel after I returned to U.S.

We stayed at Shangri La Chengdu on March 27th, 2018. The stay was pleasant and the staff was very nice, as with most Shangri La hotels. We were also informed at check-in that the first round of the mini bar was free. We used the mini bar accordingly and there was no charge. We traveled to another city for 4 days and returned back to the same Shangri La hotel. This time, although we reserved the same club room, the room was a grade lower. No electric curtains, towels for only one person, etc. When I asked if the first round of mini bar would be free, I can tell that the staff reluctantly said yes. We used the mini bar slightly, just a little snack for my son. There was no mention of any charges for the mini bar at check out. However, Shangri La charged me $21 after I returned to the state. When I sent an email expressing the inappropriateness of the $21 charge. No response from the hotel. It's not so much the $21. It is the lacked of proper notice at check out and a lacked of professionalism. Basically, we had no say. I've traveled the world. This is not how other Shangri la hotels behave. Very disappointing.

Quality consistent but sometimes it is difficult to get a taxi at the hotel.

Highly recommended

We enjoyed our visit to the Shangri-la very much. The staff upgraded our two rooms to a family suite which was a wonderful surprise. The hotel was clean and situated in a perfect location. We enjoyed the lounge for happy hour and the breakfast had an endless selection of foods from all over the world.

Fair and too commercial

It was ok, but too commercial. I booked two rooms, and requested a connected room, but the hotel did not aware that I have made the request when booking. Anyway, connected room was not available, and reception kept asking me to upgrade, but I rejected, then, the reception offered me another upgrade package which including breakfast, but it was expensive, so, I rejected again! I just felt too commercial! The hotel was a bit old, but location is convenient.

Delightful and friendly

The room and facilities were wonderful and the staff could not have been more helpful and attentive.

The Shangri-La is located in a beautiful area along the river and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. The breakfast in the lounge is quite extensive and good.

I loved the Shangri-la Hotel. The service was great and the restaurant was also great.

Nice room with good view of Chengdu. Always a good product, regardless of city. I've not been disappointed with any Shangri-la property. Room service food was excellent as was wifi.

Impeccable

Upgraded to the business suite for 70 dollars more, good snacks and beverages in the lounge, well worth it. Friendly staff, comfortable room.

Asked for two beds but was told there was only one-bed rooms available.

Would stay there again

I would stay there again, good value. Friendly staff who speak English with dining and shopping locations nearby. Also within walking distance is the River Viewing Tower Park attraction.

Business Trip

Nice hotel conveniently located on the airport side of town but overrun with a corporate event that shutdown the two main restaurants. We ate both lunch and dinner in the lobby lounge and both times had to wait 45 to 60 minutes for our food to come. Staff unfortunately only had a very basic level of English so we struggled to make our order then had several return visits to repeat it (and even then one salmon order turned up as a steak). Check-in was also frustrating as people kept pushing him and the staff failed to police the queue. All round a bit frustrating.

For an international brand the operator needs to improve staff performance and English. Slow check in and we had a difficult time ordering food at the lobby lounge.

While it may be an older 5 star hotel, the staff is first rate and friendly - I won't stay at any other place.

Not Up To Shangri-La Standard

Windows filthy, breakfast buffet mediocre, room layout awkward (TV hard to see while in bed).

We loved it.

Staff upgraded us to a room w windows galore on high floor when our AC wasnt working. We were in Horizon club which was well worth it, excellent service and food. Nice breakfast, excellent coffee! Super cozy beds. We had guide and driver each day so cant comment much on location. We did spend one afternoon at nearby shopping pedestrian street, quite amazing, just 10 minutes by taxi. Staff lovely, service was great, all in all, a great stay.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Shangri-la for three days to visit Chengdu. The hotel is in the center in walking distance from one of the big shopping areas in Chengdu and with easy access to the metro. There is a nice area to go out nearby along the river. Nice views over the city from the room.

This is a lovely hotel, high-end, luxury with great facilities, comfortable beds and amazing bathrooms. Well placed for exploring Chengdu.

Excellent Services as Always

Shangri-La has been my favorite hotel for years. Though each stay at this hotel gave me different experience. Mostly good, but not always. It all depends on who you run into during the stay. For this stay everything was good as usual except: 1. Hotel staff failed to recognize my Golden Circle Elite status upon check-in. This means I have to ask to get the benefits of frequent guests as promised by the hotel. 2. I got the smallest room this time. Probably due to the fact the room was a package including airfare from Expedia. The hotel can be unfriendly for budget travelers. I got better treatment if I book directly from the hotel web site. So, beware, the hotel possibly works against travel agency in order to maximize their revenue.

The Rain Effect

I was very pleased with the hotel and staff. I came there for a concert and the hotel exceeded my expectations. I had an awesome visit and will definitely be back.

Brilliant basement bar entertainment!

We stayed in the Shangri-la as part of our honeymoon trip touring China and it was brilliant. Our room was upgraded to a river view for free, providing us with a beautiful outlook onto the spectacular restaurant bridge. The other side of the river was lined with bars and restaurants that really came alive at night but the best place to be was in Mooneys the Hotel's 'Irish Pub' where ladies night on Thursdays meant free wine and cocktails for women all evening and every night the current house band 'Remix' provided an absolutely excellent and entertaining show. All of the hotel staff were very helpful and the room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. On our last day we had lunch in the 'Cafe Z' which we had unfortunately arrived too late for the International Buffet but it looked outstanding and the lunch we ordered (Sichuan Soup) was delicious. Though the lounge bar on the reception floor is a bit pricey for a coffee or glass of wine it is a lovely place to have a peaceful sit down and look out across the river.

Beautiful river views and helpful for business!

Beautiful hotel with great amenities and helpful staff. Good location within walking distance to stores, grocery, restaurant and bars. Rooms are spacious but a bit tired. Towels seemed old, toiletries weren't great, carpet, bed, desk were outdated. Definitely needs an upgrade! Overall nice hotel, however! Excellent and helpful staff!

Great hotel in a great city

Hotel is situated within 30 mins from the airport. Right across the river from the hotel is a nice little are with bars and local cuisine.

Was not that impressed

I booked my reservation for this Hotel with Hotels.com and Paid in Full before I got to China. The Hotel had NO record of my reservation and kept me in the Lobby at the front desk for around one hour trying to figure it out. I had 2 kids iwith me ready to pass out and go to sleep. The Hotel FINALLY just put us in a room and realized the next day they did find the reservation. I was SHOCKED they did not send something up to my room to say SORRY. How could they keep me at the desk for one hour with 2 kids and NOT send something up the next day like a bottle of wine. On another note, I did order a glass of wine from Room Service only to be told that I had an OLDER menu in my room and they no longer carry that wine. Same thing happened the NEXT day at the Lobby Bar. I ordered wine and was told they don't carry it. Turns out the only wine they DID carry was around 25.00 US dollars a glass. Those things turned me off.

Great hotel close to river

Very nice hotel, with good location next to river and new entertainment area. Short walk to metro station. Staff pleasant &helpful & assisted us to book sightseeing trips. Reasonable food options.

Close to river

This was the second shangri la hotel I stayed at in china. Both were very nice and were very helpful for western travelers.

OUR EXPERIENCE AT THE SHANGRI-LA, CHENGDU, HAS BEEN NOTHING SHORT OF EXCEPTIONAL OR OUTSTANDING!

Great Location, Extremely Comfortable

The Shangri-la's location could not be better: just around the corner from the famous nightclub street and just across the river (with a convenient footbridge) from the live music bars and restaurants. This was my last hotel on a two-week trip, and I was happy to pay a premium for an extremely comfortable bed (by Western standards) and a delicious breakfast (Chinese and Western both available and both very good). The staff speak good English and helped in a number of ways, from changing money to hailing cabs.

Overall a pleasant experience

Great stay

The only comment I have is that the restaurants and coffee were way to expensive. We paid $40 for two coffees- not even a specialty coffee- just plain perked coffee. Meals were the same thing. The porters and bell boys were extremely helpful in getting cabs.

Great 5 Star Hotel

This is a great hotel and I will cerrtainly use it again when I visit Chengdu. It has a high standard of finishes and very well located. The rooms were very quiet and comfortable with free wifi. My only two minor issues was that the creamer powder in the minbar was never replaced the five days I stayed there and in the Chinese Restaurant off the lobby (Shang Palace from memory) a number of the foods and wines listed were not available - it was embarrasing having to re-order in front of guests several times as staff did not know what was not available when orders were taken.

Excellent hotel. Large attractive lobby. Lobby bar with nightly live piano player. Amazing breakfast at about $20.00 per person. I tried two different packages at the Chi Spa. The massage was very good but prices are not inexpensive. Hotel staff was very attentive and helpful. I would certainly stay at the Shangri-la if I return to Changdu.

Completely enjoyable

Great and not so great

Endless hammering in the hallway was irritating. Went to the Starbucks to escape the noise. Waited to check out, and waited twenty minutes for someone to come to my room to bring luggage downstairs. Swimming pool is great and exercise room is great, my main reason to stay instead of very reasonable alternatives nearby: large, uncrowded, soft music in the swimming pool, headphones for TV or music provided for exercise room. Still, overall it is not a five star experience.

Best hotel by far

What an absolute treat it was staying at the Shrangri-La.. We had a river view room with amazing views. The hotel was beautifully decorated, it was clean and in good repair. Staff were absolutely amazing, from the moment we walked through the doors til the time we left, the staff bent over backwards to make our stay a memorable one. All the staff that we spoke with spoke and understood English. The concierge was amazing, he helped us in so many ways. Overall if your looking for a hotel in Chengdu don't look any further. Best hotel I've stayed at.....

Good choice for Chengdu

The hotel is enormous and it's always bustling in the lobby. We had dinner at one of the hotel restaurants, Shang Palace, and enjoyed it very much. Also, the breakfast we had in hotel was the best we had during a 2 week China vacation. The service is excellent, though the bed was firmer than I prefer.

Almost perfect

We had an almost perfect stay. We opted for the upgrade to the Horizon room but once in the room, they didn't have beds for all 3 of us as promised. They showed in a separate bed making the room really crowded. At check-out they charged a 15 percent service in addition to the upgrade price. This was not okay and after a little debate with the manager they removed it. Too bad, everything else was wonderfull. Location, view, staff (really wonderful!) and value for money was amazing.

A good business hotel.

The Shangri-La is very well cituated in central Chengdu. My husband and I stayed for one week for tourism. The room was comfortable but in need of "refreshment" - only minor issues such as the bathroom door not closing properly, the bathroom sink flooding and the desk-chair cover being in a state of disrepair. Overall, however, the room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel offered two restaurants, a bar which served food and the lobby, in terms of dining choices - all of which were very good and served by far the best food we ate while we were in Chengdu. I would happily return to the Shangri-La.

Great hotel

This is an outstanding hotel. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The breakfast and dinner buffets are amazing: food from all over the world, wonderfully prepared, lots of variety. The hotel is clean and very well run. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Chendgu - Shangri la

Excellent hotel. Everything was perfect. Would stay there for sure. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is brand spanking new. Loved the experience.
