Modern facilities. Would have been even better if USB power points were available.

Very clean hotel but very loud because of the trucks driving around. My neighbor was loud and I could hear everything which disturbed my sleep

Hotel with great and reasonable Price at PVG

The hotel was innovated, it is much better the condition 7 years ago. The shuttle service to PVG was on time. There are so many local restaurants nearby the hotel, some restaurants open 24 hours, so convenient. By the way, the lady with employee number 303 is very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is clean and safe. The front desk is very helpful and friendly. The price is quite reasonable. Free shuttle to/from airport and free breakfast are good bonus. My stay is 5 star experience.

Front desk are very friendly and nice but room service wasn't so nice when we stayed in, no facial tissues in the room.....hahaha. street noise is not isolated from outside.

The room was very large, had a strong aircon and the bed was super comfortable. Felt like sleeping on a cloud. It was a great choice for an overnight layover. The room was very clean as well. The only thing missing was a small fridge. Their breakfast was good enough. They also had a convenient and free airport shuttle that picked us up late at night. I would happily stay here again.

When you enter the lounge maybe understate the property.

Staffs are really nice. Breakfast has a lot of choices. Steamed vegetable buns are delicious. They are handmade by their kitchen staffs every morning. Enjoyed!

Great Transit Hotel

I had an overnight layover in Shanghai and decided to get a hotel nearby and this came up as one of the affordable options with shuttle to and from the airport. Nice, little hotel. I got in around 10pm at night and was quickly checked in and told about what time to be ready for the shuttle to the airport the next morning. Room itself was clean and comfortable; bathroom had the basic amenities like soap and shampoo (grapefruit and they smelled great!). Water flow was strong and warmed up quickly. It's so nice to be able to freshen up before continuing my journey. In the morning, the same staff who checked me in the night before already prepared a paper bag of breakfast to go (since I was leaving before official breakfast started). Amazing service! Took the free shuttle back to the airport and off I went.

Great staff, easy transfer, comfortable room

After 4 weeks of travelling the last thing i wanted was a plane delay and hours stuck in the airport, booked the hotel and immediately got full details including photos of the free shuttle service from the airport. A short 15 minute drive and arrived at the hotel, met by a wonderful freindly lady on reception (who could also speak english which helped immensely)who allowed me to check in early and offered me breakfast, later on also advised me on where to go for local shops and booked me on the free shuttle later back to the airport. My flight ended up cancelled and unfortunately the night receptionist wasnt as fluent in english so i couldnt get any assistance with extending my stay at the hotel so left for the airport to sort out my flight. Clean amd comfortable room, shops and restaurants within walking distance , free airport shuttle service both directions , hotel dont quite look like pictures but all in all a great alternative to the airport allowing a decent sleep and freshen up.

They have Suttle bus to pick up the guests. The room is smaller than the posting, but clean and neat. The bed is comfortable. The breakfast provides the variety of options.

We had a lovely stay, staff helpful but the location is best suited just for the airport. Had to book taxis to go into Shanghai itself to explore. Plenty of places to eat around the hotel though

Hotel needs to makes guests aware before arrival of exactly where they can board the hotel courtesy bus at Shanghai Airport arrivals.. In fact, we did not even know that the hotel had an airport courtesy bus and it cost us an expensive cab trip to get from the airport to the hotel. Would have been far more satisfactory to know where to board the hotel bus at the airport, and the hotel's airport schedule. Staff were helpful, however, despite the language difficulties.

Staff was helpful, room was spacious and clean, food was good, and the free airport shuttle was convenient. There is also a bus stop right outside the hotel that goes to the closest subway station so commute was very simple.

The hotel is abit far for the main Shanghai area but it’s best for one nice stay if you have transit flight . Most of the hotel staff were awesome except few. Best staff of the hotel was Sun Jialing, her hotel employe number was 305 . Her customer service was exceptional . Definitely recommend her if you want any personal assistance.

For a stopover it was perfect. Staff were super friendly, allowed me an early check-in and great breakfast. Surrounding area had loads of good eating places too. Shuttle service easy to organise and bang on time

It is very close to the airport and it is very reasonable price for us to stay a night there. The room is clean and comfortable.

The lady at reception was really good . Spoke English which was help . When she realise we booked king bed by mistake instead of two single beds . On requires of two single beds she upgraded us to family room . She was kind . I forgot her name . She was at reception on 13th May evening around 9-10 pm when we checked in .

Free shuttle bus from airport. Shuttle bus to airport allows easy connection to train lines. Near food and convenience shops.

We enjoyed their breakfast. The staff were courteous and kind to offer us tea as soon as we arrived. One staff even escorted us to our suite. We were picked up from the airport upon arrival and dropped us to the airport the next day to our connecting flight. With this price, you don't expect a new building with a nice carpet flooring especially the hallway.

Decent airport hotel

No frills but fine for a night and close to the airport. The receptionist was very nice and spoke decent English. I had a problem with the address and was left by the taxi at another hotel as it was not possible to find the hotel by using the address at hotel.com in English. This was a less pleasant experience as a female traveling alone in the night with limited internet access and no Chinese skills, so please find and use the address in Chinese.

Hotel was not in a good location, it was raining heavily when the taxi dropped us there, the floor at the front desk was flooded with water and some lady attempting to dry it was not doing a very good job, very dirty carpets, small dingy room, no air conditioning, language barrier didn't help as the translator's accent was super strong. Checked in and checked right out and booked a different hotel. Don't waste your money, you will be very disappointed. Was the worst experience I have had booking with Expedia. Also the address Expedia has for the hotel is wrong, there is no morningside rd, the street is chenyang rd, taxi couldn't find it and cost us much more searching for it as google is not allowed. Major hustle.

Good value for an airport hotel

Good no frills airport hotel.. Prvided free airport pickup.

It was OK.but the location is at busy road, very noise.

Shuttle service both ways were on point! Both drivers were very kind and helpful. Front desk agent at check-in was not welcoming but did her job. My room however was unable to provide me a good night rest before my 14 hours flight on the next morning. It located right beside the elevator and was horribly noisy. There was no external window facing outside of the building from my room but a fake window directly facing the corridor. Due to the odd position of the curtain, it was unable to block the light from the carridor but allowed it to shine directly into my eye while laying on the bed. I could hear the noise of the elevator and from the corridor all night long. It sounded like something hit the wall beside the bed when the elevator started or stopped. The mattress was also way to hard for me and I could feel the springs poking my back while trying to sleep. I gave up on breskfast as the restaurant was filled with tons of teenagers who were on some kind of school field trip so there was no comment for breakfast. Well... By all means, it was a very cheap hotel which provide a room with bed, private shower, and round-trip shuttle. Quality may be lacking but I got what I paid for. It was better than stay at the airport lounge while having a 10-hour layover, but it definately didn't provide me a good quality rest. If you concern about rest.well, I suggest you look somewhwere else. If you decided to stay here, remeber to ask a room away from the elevator.

They give early check in and late check out. This is really helpful especially your flight arrival/departure fall in odd hours!

Was unable to communicate with the staff about arranging a taxi to pick me up from the airport as no one followed up with me from hotels.com (only a phone number for hotel was given and I was unable to call from another country). The room was ice cold and took quite some time to heat up. The front desk person, who didn’t speak any English, continues to call 3x around 3 In the morning to say that I needed to pay for the room which I thought I had already done so downstairs. The food at the breakfast buffet was just okay at best and I wish I would have chosen a better hotel to stay at in the end.

ok Area is nice with lots of grocers and restaurants

We stayed here on our layover from the airport to Bangkok, they had a free shuttle which was perfect. Once we finally found the shuttle it was about a 30 min ride to hotel, not bad. They had continental breakfast but we had to leave back to the airport before they opened :( overall nice rooms and clean. Had an interesting experience walking out to find food that night!

Fine hotel, less wonderful location

The hotel was clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a buffet of foods I'd expect for lunch or dinner at a Chinese restaurant in the US or Europe: fried rice, stir-fried & steamed veggies, steamed dumplings, fried fish, chicken, pork, corn on the cob, sweet potato, etc. It all tasted good; was just unusual for my husband & I. The free shuttle to the airport gave us a way to get to the metro without paying. We also took a cab to the nearest metro station. That cost about 25 yuan.

Hotel and room was smelling like a cigarette factory, mosquitoes everywhere and in the rooms, the area and location not good as well we’ve stayed at the other location before and my wife wanted to try this location!! BIG MISTAKE, will not stay here again.

The hotel provided good transportation to the airport and the breakfast menu had improved. The only downside was our room had quite a bit of mold near one side of the window.

Very happy with our stay at this hotel. It is confusing to get to as the hotel is listed under 2 different names and shows 2 different addresses, it is the one hotel. Joyful Star Hotel - Disneyland Chenyang and Joyful Star Hotel - Pudong Airport are the same place. Location is perfect, shops and supermarket around the corner, free shuttle service to and from Disneyland and Pudong Airport. Breakfast is basic buffet, Asian style, included in room price. The bed in the room is extra large and comfortable, with 2 very nice pillows each. Our only small issue was that this non-smoking hotel smelt of smoke and in particular, our room smelt quite bad from smoke. The shower was great with a large rain shower head, our best shower out of all the hotels we have stayed at on this trip. There was no fridge in the room which may have been a problem if we had been staying longer and our room was on the inside of the hotel, so we had no window, only a curtain covering a "window" to the corridor. A/C worked well and was quite chilly. 100 Yuan taken at check in for deposit, don't forget to keep your receipt. Overall this is fantastic value for money and we would not hesitate to stay here again.

no matter how late you check in, if you need a transfer to pudong airport at anytime, you can simply jot down your prefer timing on the paper. and it is free of charge! staff are helpful and nice. will definitely stay here again :)

Terrible hotel close to nothing.

Room was dirty. Rug had too many stains. Had to take a taxi to get to subway. Breakfast was a disaster, worse we ever had in China. Food made my wife sick! Language was a problem even when we used our English - Chiness translate book. Front desk had to difficult a time understanding BUS or SUBWAY. Was it on purpose? Mattress was a boxspring with a way to thin pad on it. Boards came through pad which made it too difficult to sleep. Other hotels use a box spring, but not with this thin a pad. If rug was clean we would have had a better nights sleep on the floor Toilet did not work: water tank valve kept sticking which prevented tank from filing. We had to remove tank cover and tap valve to get water into the tank before flushing A/C did not work. A/C also provides heat in winter which probably means you will freeze your can. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

Close to the airport w free shuttle

Good only if you want to be near the airport, the other Joyful star is much better , Joyful Star 1 as rooms are renovated. Nothing much in the area. Easy transport to Disneyland.

Good for airline connection

All of the previous reviews are true. The room smelled faintly of smoke, my shower didn't fully work, there was only Chinese tv. The staff spoke no English. Hookers had their cards under my door. However, as a 40 year veteran of travel this place was great value!'58AUD! The shuttle airport was free, and you get it near the exit of Terminal 1, near info counter, not outside. They had my name and I didn't even book ahead! The shuttle is free and goes to a schedule. I thought this place was ok. The breakfast was good- the pork buns were yummy.

A clean, basic hotel.

The hotel is clean and the staff do their best to be helpful but some speak better English then others (to be expected, I speak no Chinese. My problem). If like us you are only using the hotel as a stopover between flights, it's ok. But I couldn't recommend it for a long stay. The free shuttle bus was difficult to locate but if you go to the information desk near the exit you should see a lady with the joyful star logo on an A4 laminated sheet of paper sat close by. Once located it seems well organised. The return trip is booked is the hotel reception at check in. Overall; good value for money.

Convenient hotel with great price

It's a good place to stay near Pudong international airport for overnight transfer with a great price. It provides 24 hr free shuttle service to the airport and free breakfast. The room is spacious with a queen bed and a twin bed for 3 people. Although I had a non-smoking room, the entire building smelled smoke.

For free shuttle from shanghai, Pudong airport: Go to floor 1 in terminal 1 to look for their booth. Wait is one hour max. This location is good to get tasty, economical local food. I will not expect too much from chinese 3 stars hotel as long as clean.

Nice Hotel, Good and Free shuttle service. Comfortable rooms. Very average breakfast. Make sure to search out the Joyful Star Hotel desk counter at Terminal 1 exit. The desk is on your left, opposite the street, on the way to the McDonald's. This will save you a minimum of 200 yuan, as the Taxi desk touts will try to convince you that the hotel does not have shuttle service. Ignore them and continue walking.

The service was fine. The room was much nicer than expected for the price I paid. The one thing I would always prefer are clean linens. The mattress can be hard, the room can be small, but sheets with hair in the bed are gross. The location was ok, but not what I would want if I go back. The area had a lot of restaurants nearby, but it wasn't near the city area that a short term tourist would want to check out. Also, it was about 20 minutes from the airport which was further than I thought.

디즈니랜드에 가기위해서 좋은 선택이었어요! ㅎㅎ 공항으로 갈 때 셔틀버스를 가장 먼저 타서 편히 앉아갈 수 있었고 숙소 맞은편에 coco가 보였고 숙소 근처 联华 슈퍼, 로손, 패밀리마트가 있고 샤오양셩지엔(소양생전) 케이에프씨 헤이티, 루킨 커피 등 나름 한국인들에 유명한 먹거리도 있어서 저는 좋았습니다 ㅎㅎ 새벽 비행기라 조식을 못먹으니 빵+우유를 주시기도 했어요! 침구류도 깔끔해요 그나마 단점이라면 호텔 자체가 엄청 추워요 대신 방마다 온풍기가 있긴하지만 뭔가 엄청 춥다는 점! ㅎㅎ 그거빼고 가격대비 굿

excellent hotel

非常满意

가장 좋았던 점은 공항-호텔간의 셔틀버스였습니다. 다만, 셔틀버스가 한 시간에 한 대이고, 셔틀버스 정류소에 버스들이 많아 처음에는 불안했으나, 버스는 시간맞춰 도착했고(안내 받은 게이트 자리는 아니였음), 버스에 호텔 이름이 크게 다행이었습니다. 호텔 직원분은 친절하며, 이른 아침에 체크아웃을 해서 런치박스가 준비되어 있었습니다. 그리고 새벽임에도 주변에 길거리 음식이나 편의점(로손, 패밀리마트)가 있어서 좋았습니다.
