The access to the beach was unexpectedly beautiful. My favorite asset of this hotel.
Shana by the Beach was Stunning, Very Steep but they had golf carts to help with that, The beach access is about 1/4 mile hike. Very beautiful when you got down there. But we decided to go to the public beach near state park. Cabana rental was 1/2 price there. restaurant breakfast was awesome each morning--Very Great staff!! Road getting to this is very narrow, drive slow!! Lots of people walking by the road and motorcycles all over! Stunning hotel, We would go back there--very safe--gated, Thanks so much for building this beautiful Hotel!
The property is beautiful and our room was lovely. The hotel provides beach access via a steep path to a public beach, where vendors rent lounge chairs and umbrellas and sell food and other items. Not private. The room TV is internet, not cable. You must connect to your own apps and a "casting" app costs $. Seems chintzy for an otherwise lovely and expensive hotel. Staff is wonderful. Nice pool area with adult pool. Views outstanding. Overall I would return.
Nice big room, comfortable bed, beautiful outdoor breakfast area overlooking water, great price, breakfast included, nice pool, you can walk to restaurants (just be careful no sidewalk) or quick uber ride. I would stay again!
Beautiful stay, only had one room left reserved through Expedia so I had to book through them or else I wouldn’t have. Expedia is really bad in Costa Rica. They also charged me like $40 more to book through them.
The property and surrounding area are beautiful, with a private trail leading directly to the beach. From our room, we could watch monkeys playing in the trees. The staff is super friendly, and they can help book transportations to the park and airport.
Shana's location was excellent: close to a wonderful beach accessible from the property, and a short (though hilly) walk to Manuel Antonio town. Our party had two rooms with ocean views that were close together. They were, bright, clean, nicely appointed, and comfortable. There are two pool areas, but we only discovered the adult pool towards the end of our stay (would have used it more.) We really enjoyed the views from the open-air restaurant and witnessed monkeys there a few times. Overall, the food selection was good and whatever we ordered was tasty. We particularly liked the breakfast buffet. A shout out to Javier, Andre, Edgar, and Lizandro for their excellent service. Be sure to catch the beautiful sunset views from the property!
Great quiet place!
Not a premium or luxury experience, very basic. There is nothing special about this property, rooms are very basic and kind of boring actually. In need of redesign or remodeling. For example the lighting needs work, allow some sort of dimming. We also hated the smell of their body gel and shampoo, I hope they consider something different. It's a long walk down to the beach and you can definitely go to a nicer beach close by. The staff were friendly though. I think they just need a creative mind to uplift the experience, room designs/comfort, add some soul and luxury to the rooms, revamp the bathroom stuff, make sure there is ventilation in the bathrooms. Maybe include complimentary water everyday at the very least. We walked to the reception area multiple times to ask for water (which is very difficult to get to) and the night reception manager Oliver told us if the restaurant is closed just drink water from bathroom sink. We saw piles of bottle water in the storage areas everyday we walked by, they did have bottled water available, maybe just lazy to give it to us. Anyways this is supposed to be a premium property and experience based on the way it presents itself on travel websites but thats not the overall experience we had.
It was nice
This was our least favorite hotel during our trip. The restaurant at the hotel was overpriced and not very good. Parking is sparse and extremely tight. The toilets take forever to flush each time. The hotel is on a very steep hill that is a pain to walk up. The staff was very friendly, at least.
We loved Shana Hotel! The staff are always ready to help with a smile, the rooms are beautiful and the amenities great. We loved being able to walk to Biesanz beach via the hotel's trail.
Loved the location, the views and everything about this property.
Beautiful property and the nearby beach is fantastic. Saw some beautiful birds, and the monkeys were fun to watch too.
Little gem
Nice hotel with excellent pool, restaurant, and staff that cares
Location is on a beach, they do provide kayak and other equipment for boating. Facility is really old, towels are worn and torn, food is decent, staff is very friendly, bars are stocked well. Pools are only cleaned in the morning
Great place to stay.
The first night the Junior suite we booked had very bad damp, musty smell. Made it hard to sleep, notified the staff and were able to give us a different room. We were there on Christmas eve till the day after Christmas. Breakfast was great both days, the Christmas dinner needed more options than f8sh, chicken and veggies especially at the price point. We opted to go out to a nearby nearby location with a full menu options. The Shana by the Beach staff are their best assets.
The staff and service were excellent! We enjoyed the food as well. We feel like the rooms could have been a bit nicer for the price.
the property is pretty. only drive to the property at last a few minutes is not easy.
Great Place !!!!
Its a bit of a drive in from the main road so you can't really walk to other places safely. Pool space, drinks and food is pretty good. The walk to the beach can be strenuous but doable in sandals/flipflops. Pretty close to Manuel Antonio. Would visit again.
It was a beautiful place to stay. The breakfast was good and the people were great!
Amazing people and place.
Great from star to finish
Shana was a great place to stay. The resort is showing signs of age but was still very comfortable. The breakfast was wonderful and the dinner we had was amazing. The view is very nice and you are truly a part of nature with monkeys, Scarlett macaws and iguanas around. Overall we really enjoyed this resort
Terrible entrance and very confused check in process.
Quiet place in the jungle, A lot of monkeys around. Short walk to the beach, Good restaurant. Easy covered parking.
Wonderful hotel, in perfect location. The staff were warm and welcoming and ready to assist when needed. But the stars were the monkeys!
We got stranded in Costa Rica because of a tropical storm and had to leave the vrbo we were staying at. The shana was more than accommodating and found 4 rooms for us and made us real right at home. The property is gorgeous with tons of wild life and beautiful views. We would definitely return to this hotel on future visits!
Wonderful stay on the edge of the rain forest. Breakfast on the outdoor deck was an amazing way to start the day. Dinner is a first class experience!
Shana was so great, buffet breakfast was delicious and all the staff was so kind. On our last day when we were checking out the security guard noticed we had a flat tire and they called someone to help us and made sure we were okay. 10/10 recommend!
Excellent location, beautiful surroundings and easy access to its private beach! Monkeys stole the show! Plenty of wildlife to see! Breakfast buffet was ok, not many selections. The hotel could use a hot tub especially during rainy season when the temperatures are low.
This property is NOT worthy of a 4-star category. I had booked a Oceanview room with a king bed for a 2 night stay. There were several issues.Toilet would not flush unless you press & hold the knob all the way until it completed the flush cycle. Calling repair service didn't help. Bathroom sink faucet was actually a very old style single handle with a long spout more like a kitchen sink faucet. Bathroom sink had no sink stopper or strainer with ugly sinkhole fully visible. Old wooden furniture with sticky wooden top surface everywhere in the room. All the old furniture, bathroom & shower fixtures desperately needs upgrading for aesthetic and appealing look & feel. Breakfast choices in the restaurant were very mediocre with very little options for vegetarians. For me this was more like a 2.5 star hotel and doesn't deserve 4-star classification.
The property’s location and views was second to none. The room was spacious and clean. And the managers, Hayette and Kevin and the whole staff were very friendly and attentive. We are coming back next year!
being close to see all the wild life, staff was pleasant
I had a really delightful stay here. It’s in a beautiful place, easily accessible by taxi. I was lucky enough to get upgraded to a jungle view room and had monkeys visit me every day on the balcony. My only critique was that the food was unimpressive. Breakfast was disappointing and the dinner was rather bland and underseasoned and a bit over priced. But I took a taxi into town for the second night and had a great meal there. The staff was kind and professional and the facilities were very clean. The views from the room and pool are breathtaking.
It rained the entire time that we were there and they made sure to make it a pleasant experience regardless of the weather. Great customer service, safe place, cleaning was great. I love them. I was with a 3 year old and would pick us up in a cart. It was fabulous.
One of my favorite hotels to stay at in Manuel Antonio Costa Rica
Nice views
Nice views
Ian and the staff were very good to us. It’s a bit too steep of a property for some but the staff was always available with the golf cart to give a ride. Having a private entrance to the beach was AMAZING!
Best place I’ve stayed at. Amazing views, monkeys, the ocean. Spectacular stay. I proposed to my now fiance and soon to be wife here. Can’t go wrong with this place. Loved every minute!
What an amazing stay! The staff was incredible, food was delicious, rooms were clean and the VIEW! Can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend it!
One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited
Cool design.
Staff was awesome, Alan the chef was amazing. Alan prepared a dish specifically made for us and it was delicious, he went out of his way to make us feel at home, thank you Alan! Edgar the waiter prepared a tropical juice that we would have every morning and had us thinking about it all day long. The staff at the office, they were just so helpful. Kevin, the best and always wanting to help us, we are going to miss you Kevin, hope you are enjoying your vacation, you deserve it! All in all if we ever go back this is the place where we will stay! Again thank you Shana by the beach. And PURA ViDA my friends.
Gem on the Pacific side!
Even though we had a problem getting the TV to work properly and the AC froze up, they immediately and pleasantly fixed the issues with little to know problems. The staff was super helpful and kind in their service. The view, pool, and pool area are stunning and relaxing.
“Una experiencia increíble en este hotel. La comida fue de lo mejor que hemos probado, con sabores exquisitos y una presentación impecable. Las instalaciones son modernas, limpias y muy cómodas, especialmente la piscina, que están en perfectas condiciones. Además, el happy hour fue un verdadero punto destacado, con una excelente selección de bebidas y un ambiente relajante. ¡Definitivamente lo recomendaría!”
over all really great. The only gripe we had was the restaurant prices. They were really on the high side. But overall good experience.
pizza capricciosa best pizza ever
I really enjoyed my stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The view of the ocean from my room was amazing!
Amazing hotel
Great place with wonderful staff. We loved our stay there. Hospitality was on point. Highly recommended!
A bit pricey for what the offer but overall good
Shana By the Beach is Beautiful and surrounded by the incredible natural area. The staff is pleasant and attentive and available to assist with any needs, even golf carts to help manage in the steep terrain. Steps descend from the hotel to Biesanz Beach, which was very convenient, but also a lovely surprise. A monkey crossed our path one morning- delightful! Breakfast is delicious and the full Costa Rican fare plus more, with spectacular views. The pools are beautiful, will try to spend some time there next time!
The beauty and tranquility of this paradise is absolutely amazing, and coupled with the warmth and care of ALL personnel makes it a perfect location to enjoy a wonderful cacation
Private pathways to the beautiful beach!
Great resort on the side of the hill! You gonna have to hike up the hill if you get a room with the beach view.
I liked the path and walk to the beach. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The manager of the property was very helpful and very nice, The views are spectular and the food and beverages are great!
The rooms were spacious, clean and had a true jungle view. Every staff member we encountered was great from front desk, drivers, activity coordinator, waiters, cleaning and masseuse. Easy access to the beach. If you have mobility problems getting to beach might be difficult.
The hotel is beautiful and the room was amazing. We had a room with a private pool that our kids absolutely loved. The staff was unbelievably kind and helpful. The only "complaint" we can think of is that the beds were hard.
The views were beautiful and the property well maintained. The only tweaks I’d make is the drains get very smelly in the rooms so might want to regularly clean those.
I love this place, is one of my favorites places in the world, the direct access to the beach, the staff, the food and the place are all great. I think they have a great management and great location. I havr been here 3 times and cant wait for my next visit
Beautiful property, beach and scenery.
My stay was wonderful! My room was very spacious, and the bathroom was huge. I made a great decision staying at this hotel. I had an enormous spider on my bathroom cathedral ceiling, and someone was there to remove it within 5 minutes. Customer service was amazing, shoutout to Kevin and Fiona at the front desk. Food was ok, can’t rave over that. Lol. There is no gym, but if you walk that steep hill a few times a day you’ll be good. The walking path to the beach was longer than expected, but nice. WILL DEFINITELY STAY HERE AGAIN.
Staff here go above and beyond to help you. The property is built on a cliff and isn’t easily walkable but they offered golf cart service to make our trip enjoyable. We could not get to the beach as the walk was too steep. Driving to the resort was scary and it was difficult to park at the resort. But the view and the room were great. We had monkeys on our balcony looking for food.
This was one of the stops from our itinerary and Shana by the Beach provides that Pura Vida experience package all in one area. We arrived at Quepos super early around 9AM due to dropping off a friend for an early flight home just prior. We knew check-in was at 3pm but there was lots to do in the area anyway until ready time. We did ask if early check-in was possible and we weren't giving our hopes up, but Elvis Artavia from the front desk team went Above and Beyond to accommodate us and checked us in at 11AM! Our room was very clean, the A/C comfortably set and had the greatest ocean view from our balcony. Monkeys and toucans! Yes! -just from our balcony. Staffing all throughout was awesome. Friendliness goes both ways and long. This indeed did add for a more pleasant stay and experience. We will definitely stay again! Thank you Shana by the Beach...
Always such a treat to stay at Shana! Love it every time!! PURA VIDA!
Cuando hay alguien y lo atienden no deben adelantar gente que esta detras ! Claro es educación misma del guest
Great hotel,
The view is beautiful and staff and facilities are nice, but overall feels a bit overpriced for what it is. Being able to walk down the beautiful path to the beach is the selling point, but some of the issues with noise, especially early in the morning for deliveries, the datedness of rooms and lack of extra touches and the quality of breakfast make it feel lower than the higher end resort it’s billed as. Overall we had a great stay but would probably look ant different options next time, at lower price point.
Beautiful views. Good restaurant. Well located. Nice beach.
Staff at Shana were friendly and extremely helpful. My family and I enjoyed our stay. Thank you!
Beautiful little resort in a lovely area. The staff were very friendly and there was live entertainment both night we were there. Definitely a good choice.
Our stay at Shana was wonderful. The customer service of the staff was amazing from start to finish. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. My only complaint is the linens appeared to be a bit worn and could be replaced. The pillows were also not that comfortable. The area isn’t really walkable due to steep hills but transportation to nearby restaurants was easy and staff were available on golf carts to assist with getting up the hills and carrying luggage. I would definitely stay here again.
Shana by the beach is beautiful, the rooms are very spacious and clean, monkeys are everywhere, they come to the balcony and swing from one room to the other hoping to find an unlocked door. We saw 3 kinds, Squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys who kept jumping into the balcony and knocking the chairs. It was fun to watch. The included buffet breakfast is good, monkeys try to steal food so watch out, the staff is extra friendly, the 2 pools were nice. Beautiful place . Would love to go again.
Shana by the Beach is a beautiful property. The rooms are big, clean and you feel like you’re immersed in the middle of nature. We had monkeys visit us every day. A big plus is access to the beach from the hotel which most hotels in the area do not have. Couple of things I’m going to nitpick at, especially because this is a four-star hotel, service at the restaurant was not good. Food took too long to come out on most days and the buffet run inefficiently. I would say the main issue here was they seem to be very understaffed in the restaurant. Add a couple of busboys, and a couple additional service during breakfast and this issue could easily be solved. Overall, a great property to stay at, lots of amenities, quiet, and very close to manual Antonio national Park.
I had a delightful stay at Shana by the Beach. The hotel is surrounded by lush greenery and offers breathtaking views of the ocean. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with all the necessary amenities. The staff were friendly and always ready to help. The food at the on-site restaurant was delicious, especially the fresh seafood. The pool area was a great place to relax, and the swim-up bar was a nice touch. Overall, a fantastic place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica.
Beautiful hotel with great views and lots of monkeys to keep you entertained. Very clean.
It is nice hotel, private path to reach beach. No eating places in walkable distance that make the only dining option in the Hotel. Food in the Shana restaurant is not great, not much options as well. The staff is nice and helpful.
Service is mediocre. Property is beautiful. The best thing about this hotel is the beach path. It's filled with animals and beautiful plants.
Everything was excellent, great service!
Great hotel close to Manual Antonio. Pool waa great with a wonderful sunset view.
This property is beautiful, clean and close to there places. The staff was friendly and super helpful, specially with our mom who had some trouble walking.
Amazing service, great location.
Beautiful location with nice hotel.
Beautiful hotel, truly enjoyed all the wildlife we got to see there- monkeys, sloths and macaw birds. Unfortunately, we had issues with the room. The jacuzzi didn't work and had to get serviced while we were there. Once we thought the issue with the room was over, my child discovered some kinda bug/roach in his bed. Overall, we did enjoy our time because of the amazing environment and location.
While the staff at this property were nice, I was very disappointed at them requesting an additional fee in the hundreds upon our check in even though I was fully paid through Expedia. They said this was due to us having two kids and our reservation was made for 2 adults. We booked the family suite with two king beds, and I don’t understand why having two kids would require the additional charges. We did attend the free breakfast nor did we request housekeeping. I asked the manager to waive the charges, but they denied. So beware if you are staying there that kids cost extra regardless of your room type.
What an amazing property! We loved our stay. Our room was spacious, clean, and beautiful. The high ceilings were striking and the lighting was great. I wouldn’t normally comment on this, but those touches were notable. The coffee in the room was exceptional. My only note — and not enough to dock a star — is that there are no hooks or racks to hang anything on. Not even in the bathrooms. So, our wet towels and suits ended up being draped all over the room. The walk down to the beach is quite steep, but it’s a beautiful path and doable in flip flops. Bring water socks for the beach. The sand is lovely but the cove itself has lots of rocks and shells that can tear you up. This beach is lovely but also pretty small. Great for small children and paddle boarding, but the waves aren’t substantial enough for boogie boarding. If you’re staying more than a couple of days you will want to explore other beaches.
The Hotel stay was excellent, the view amazing and the associates working at the Shana are the best. We definitely would love to return.
The resort is nice and the staff is very friendly . Really enjoyed being able to walk down to the beach through the rainforest where we see and hear monkeys . The rooms are very clean and the restaurant had good food options.
Studio rooms are spacious with the big kitchen! Balconies are wonderful with the swing.
we stayed in a room with a view of the ocean and it was stunning. there is so much wildlife right on the property. we saw sloths, toucans, and two different kinds of monkeys without even leaving the property. they are very eco friendly and the staff is super friendly. lots of local spots to eat around the hotel as well!
Great location by a walking distance beach
We loved the location and being able to walk to a beach from this hotel. The pools were very nice. Staff was mostly friendly. Everyone was very helpful, we did find the service in the restaurant to be a bit slow but that seemed typical for everywhere in costa rica that we visited. The room was very spacious and nice big bathrooms. We loved our balcony and had several monkeys come to visit during our stay, saw capuchins, howler monkeys and some sort of rat. There was also a sloth right by the restaurant that i enjoyed watching every day. The pillows were a bit uncomfortable so that is why I gave a rating of 4 instead of 5 because of the restaurant service and uncomfortable pillows. Otherwise I would recommend a stay here.
Perfect experience!!!
Vey good view and close to National Antonio national Park
Kind staff, Carlos is always helpful and smiling. Wildlife is all around. We had a fabulous time. Thank you!
This place is amazing!! So worth it. We highly recommend it.
Best place
My first time being at a resort. All the workers had great customer service and were so nice. I was solo and felt cozy and warming. Monkeys came to my balcony it was so cute. puda vida
beautiful property, views, rooms are very nice, bedding and towels are sparkly white yummy breakfast exceptional staff

Great hotel I will be back. My only complaint was the air conditioner. I feel like they need another. One for the size of the room was very hard to get the temperature down to a normal range. The staff are amazing and it's in a beautiful location. I will be back.
