Best hotel I have stayed at in Japan!

Best hotel I stayed at during my two week solo trip to Japan. This hotel has so much space in the rooms felt like I was in my own suite compared to other Japan hotels. Loved that the shower and toilet area were separated into there own rooms. Didn't check out the sauna and onsen but they would be nice to use after walking around Kyoto all day.

Best hotel i have stayed in Kyoto Great staff. Very comfortable room. Breakfast was really delicious. The onsen in the hotel is wonderful. Nice bar to relax in the evning. Close to 2 metro station. We stayed for one week and enjoyed every moment in the hotel. Wish to be back soon!!!

This is a modern japanese hotel with a public bath and spa. The vibe and the design of the lobby restaurant and amenities are an expression of modern kyoto. The rooms are minimalistic but sufficient and intimate. Walking distance to major locations such as Kiyumizu-dera, Kodai-ji temple,Hokanji temple, Sannenzaka , ninenzaka, and a stop away from Kyoto Station. I felt like the place is young fresh and got more value than what I paid for. The buffet breakfast got practical selection but quality fare. I recommend this place for the stylish budget conscious traveller

Beautiful hotel, amazing desserts at the bar/cafe, wonderful bath and sauna. Great rooms. Loved it!!!

The hotel is very clean, beautiful, and spacious. They had free happy hour for guests who stayed at their hotels so that was a nice perk. I didn't notice any shopping areas nearby so for those who are looking to shop might need to venture out further. There are a few restaurants down the block so its pretty convenient for some late night meals.

Felt like the place was run by people who don’t know what they are doing. Basic things like being able to order multiple drinks without having to pay for them individually seemed off. They are trying to be high tech for the sake of it.

Not recommended

Nice looking and modern hotel but it is cheap and trying hard to save cost so they dont do room service (every other day I think), in room poorly design with cheap material. What's up with baby plexiglass material cups? Not recommended.

Amazing space and all the staff were very polite. I had a great night and got to relax during my travels which was very nice. The meals were also delicious!

Comfortable but too Western

Too Western: only a shower and no furo-type tub. The breakfast and dinner were good but there was very little Japanese food. The lounge in the lobby was comfortable but it felt like a Western hotel. The lounge even had a dress code forbidding wearing hotel slippers. The evening music was terrible, just a repetitive pounding of electronic percussion.

Horrible and Never Again

The staff was great but the beds are HORRIBLE and the Pillows are like rocks extremely uncomfortable.I called reception for an additional pillow and they said nope only 1 per bed. Worst hotel we have ever stayed in.

Comfortable stay

The hotel was clean and spacious and staff were friendly. The self-luggage storage was convenient.

Absolutely incredible! When we’re back in Kyoto we will definitely come back. Only small downside is there’s only 2 laundry for the hotel so plan accordingly! Other than that, 10/10

Amazing place

There was construction on the building for our entire stay. Every night, all night, we did not receive a notice when we booked, or else we would not have booked it. I feel this was very dishonnest.

Best stay in Japan!! They have sauna and public bath every night, room was very spacious. Downside is every 2-3 days cleaning but we were able to get new towels and gowns/pajamas from the front desk. Laundry is available but many people use it so you will need to wait in line a bit. Otherwise, the waterfall shower was beautiful and bed was comfortable and they even provided us with mineral water. There were many affordable and delicious restaurants nearby!!

Amazing stay in every aspect

The hotel offers sauna and bath tub, which are great, although I did not use. However, the room is not clean, there are dust everywhere, on tv, corner of the table, and carpet. You can see the dust flying with the lights on. Not pleasant. I don’t recommend this place if you care about the cleanness. Other than the cleanness, no complaint. Close to public transit. Scooter and bike rental available just outside the hotel.

4 beds suite is very comfortable and spa is nice, should stay more nights here.

Excellent hotel in the heart of Kyoto

Sequence Kyoto Gojo was awesome. It was reasonably priced, new and stylish, super clean and comfortable, with a nice bar/restaurant and an awesome sauna/bath. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Check in too late, okay breakfast.

Stayed for four nights. We reserved two rooms. The rooms are spacious and clean. Excellent shower. The breakfast is good. Also is the happy hour. Subway and bus stations near by. The only con on our side was that there are only two washing machines. Be ready to doing laundry at strange hours. All in all very good Experience.

Great Value and Location

Great place. Modern, clean, shower has good pressure, really hot water. Fridge gets stocked with water. Restaurant has the best burger I've had in my life - wagyu beef. Checkin is a bit weird, but not an issue.

Very clean , large rooms, comfortable beds, the ambience feels like high end hotel. Even restaurant in the hotel had good western food which was much needed after getting tired of eating Japanese food. You get one free drink also every night from that restaurant. Train station is 2 min walk which connects to Kyoto station so you can access all tourist attraction easily. Only Disadvantage: light is room too little, room is dark, can’t see yourself in mirror while getting ready. But I guess that’s the ambience they are trying to create. I would stay here again

Loved our stay here beautiful view and very comfortable only downside are the bed and pillows are hard as rocks but really other then that this is a great place to stay

The hotel is pretty basic but fairly new. What really bothered me is that they have a policy to charge 1000 yen for each hour of early check-in. That itself is not so bad except they have a check-in time of 5pm!! So if you want to get a little rest after a long day's travel, you are forced to pay up. This seems to be designed to squeeze a little bit of money out of each guest. It really leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

OK hotel - If you got no feather allergy

As a frequent traveller I stay in hotels roughly 200 days/year and have had my experiences… Booking an upscale 4 star hotel I would have expected that there are sufficient non-feather blankets, but all we got the first night was those patch towel sized sheets. Couldn’t properly use them and we felt cold over night. Second night we got a blanket after causing a bit more challenge, but it was only one not two what we would have needed. I never had any such issues at other comparable hotels although usually stay at international brands… apart from this the room wasn’t tidied up which was also a bad surprise. Overall a very disappointing stay, cannot recommend to people with feather allergy!

Need many more washer machines on each floor since the washers and dryers weee mostly not available for use.Restaurant should be open for meals throughout the day and offer a fair number of vegetarian and vegan options.

Luxurious and spacious stay! If you’re looking for a higher end travel friendly (particularly english) stay this place is for you. The rooms and amenities are spacious and top tier. It’s rather expensive, but worth it for the luxury. The location isn’t the best but there’s a train nearby. The luggage room is really nice too since check in is very late. This is not the place for you if you want cheap travel or aren’t picky about your rooms as it wouldn’t be worth the cost. I for one though enjoyed all the luxuries!

Must stay hotel!

What a remarkable hotel. People were friendly. Room was fantastic (one of the best we've had in Japan so far) and the location was superb. Overall, we were thrilled with the hotel and would stay again!

Cool, chill vibe hotel. Sorta NYC SoHo energy. Staff was fantastic, super helpful and efficient. The rooms are designed well for a small space however they are quite dark. Minimal lighting and black/dark walls etc do not provide good lighting in the bathroom for applying any facial products/makeup. The area was a nice escape from all the touristy areas but still very convenient. Would probably stay here again.

Best hotel I’ve ever stayed at!! Cleanest too!

This was the best hotel we stayed in during our time in Japan. The hotel was in a great location, just a short subway hop from Kyoto station and near to Nishiki food market, the room was a good size and extremely clean. Staff in the hotel were very helpful in providing advice on travel to the next stop on our trip. The hotel bar was also a nice place to relax after a long day pounding the streets of Kyoto. The only drawback was the self service laundry service - which appeared to be either out of detergent or used an ineffective one as our clothes came out smelling like feet! Wouldn’t recommend using the laundry machines, but would highly recommend the hotel regardless.

Not 4 Stars! The hotel lacks a traditional lobby, offering only two benches and allocating the rest of the space to a restaurant. Toiletries, wrapped in plastic, must be collected from reception, raising questions about the effectiveness of sustainability efforts. The self-check-in process is complicated by staff assistance and the choice between key cards and facial recognition, with the latter raising privacy concerns and being unreliable due to maintenance issues. Key cards are color-coded by gender, which is peculiar. The late check-in time of 5PM may inconvenience early arrivals, and rooms are cleaned every two days, insufficient for the small space and minimal amenities like the tiny bin. Guests must request new towels and water, provided every other day. A free drink is offered, but requesting coffee over alcohol initially led to the suggestion of purchasing a refillable cup, before eventually receiving the coffee. The room's single-glazed windows don't adequately block noise or insulate, and the bedding is uncomfortable. The absence of in-room tea or coffee, despite providing a kettle and cups, and the insistence on using the sauna and bath without swimwear may not cater well to Western guests. With only two laundry machines for over 100 rooms, the facilities are inadequate. Suitable for short stays, but for longer visits, looking elsewhere might be advisable. The hotel's approach to sustainability and guest comfort needs reevaluation for a four-star rating.

very friendly staff. free evening welcome drink at the bar. Breakfast buffet has a relatively small choice. not worth the price in comparison to other hotels I stayed at. Large rooms !!!! Refress water bottles when room is cleaned

Convenient. Near many dining options like family mart, ramen, traditional Japanese breakfast, coffee shop and even McDonalds. However, if your room faces the main road, the noise is unacceptable. We cant sleep until 2am. Try requesting a quite room if available.

We loved this hotel, a perfect stay. Enjoyed the bath and steam room each morning. Everything was new and high tech. Great location. All around lovely.

Very clean and upmarket hotel. The sauna and bath are beautiful and the rooms are so comfortable. Location is a 10-15 min walk to Nishiki.

My stay at Sequence Kyoto Gojo was exceptional. The indoor sauna and bath was clean and soothing, providing the perfect space to relax after a long day. The staff was courteous and attentive, always ready to assist and make my stay more comfortable. The cleanliness of the entire hotel, from the rooms to the common areas, was impeccable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a serene and luxurious experience.

3 minute walk to subway station, and 15-20 minute walk to all major sites in Kyoto. Beautiful Hotel and Spacious for Japanese Hotel Standards. Lots of dining options within walking distance. Would Highly Recommend.

Great staff very nice place to stay

Hotel was clean and nice. Breakfast was nothing special. Expedia lists the hotel as a 4 star property - that is too high and not correct, but still it’s a nice hotel for the price.

Highly recommend this hotel - close to the subway trains and Kyoto station make it convenient to travel from. Rooms are well kept and staff are helpful and friendly.

It was simply one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Meticulous attention to detail, fantastic and comfy rooms, great amenities, nice food, nice staff. Wonderful. Can not recommend enough.

Excellent spa retreat in the heart of Kyoto

Amazing place in Kyoto, close to everything and with an onsen/sauna! Though the men’s women’s side changes daily (because they only have one sauna and one onsen) you can still be sure to enjoy something every day after a long day out. The citrus aromatherapy sauna was a total treat. The hotel is conveniently located and modern and clean with beautiful views. Highly highly recommend. Even though the check in time is 5pm, you can use the self-luggage cloakroom AND check out is a luxurious 2pm!

There's only one communal bath and they switch from women and men day by day. It's kind of inconvenient as a bath lover, but it's small so I understand. My sheet also had a stain on it, but someone immediately came to change my sheets despite it being about 10 pm so I really appreciated that. The reason I took out an extra star is because of the breakfast. There's a tiny salad bar and your main menu is only sandwiches. The pulled pork was the most decent. The egg sandwich felt like something from a conbini on a toasted hot dog bun. The avocado sandwich though??? I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be guac or classic avocado toast, but either way the only seasoning was lime juice. No salt. I like hotels for their buffet breakfasts so this plus their lack of fiber and protein options were pretty disappointing. That being said, the place was clean, well maintained, and quiet. If I were to stay again, I'll need to plan my breakfast.

Perfect for girls trip

Wonderful facility. Excellent amount of space. I have stayed in Kyoto three times and this was the most comfortable and luxurious hotel I have experienced for a great price. The bath and sauna is a wonderful spa experience. The beds were comfortable as well.

I am really glad with the choice I made staying at this hotel. The rooms were spacious and very quiet. They cleaned the rooms every two days which is totally fine with me and is better for the environment anyway.

Family of four, 5 night stay in one of the rooms with 4 single beds. Spacious room. Enjoyed use of the projector. Modern and comfy overall and location is pretty good as you can walk to Nishiki and Tamerachi markets.

not so big but quiet and nice spa facility for this size of hotels. staffs are very friendly and face recognition entry was a big hit for my daughter. Fun! also breakfast was good. not a lot of food but we usually do not eat a lot in the morning and they bring fresh sandwich to the table.

The Sequence Kyoto GOJO was a great hotel and I would stay again. It was clean and in a good location with great staff. I do have to note that the smaller rooms are small but it has everything that you would need, ideal for two people.

It's a designer hotel close to the subway station, bus station and all the major attractions. We were pleasantly surprised to the value we got for the price that we paid. Also, everything was neat and clean - as of 2023, it looks like a brand new construction.

Extremely clean property. Totally support its system of 'housekeeping once every 2~3 days only'. The onsen/suana is also very clean. Finally, can log into own's Netflix account with the room's TV at no charge.
