Quaint little EgoLodge
Sweet little spot to make your south in Costa Rica
Wonderful secluded cabins in a beautiful setting.
Perfect place for us. Cabins layed out nicely to feel secluded but very close to pool and dinning area. Wonderful and beautiful property. August 2024
Don’t stay there!!
The water got cut off when we needed to take showers after swimming, and then came back after about one hour. It sounded like that happens a lot because they told us to use the emergency water which they store in a couple of 6 liter water underneath the sink. The worse part is the electricity went down at 10:39pm, so we didn’t have power, air conditioning, and the internet until 9:30 am the next day. It was hot and humid in the room. I didn’t feel safe sleeping the whole night because the staff all went home at 9pm and we were the only customers there that night. As for the breakfast, they gave us plain toasted breads, a couple pieces of cut fruits, and coffee because they didn’t have the electricity to cook hot breakfast. The hotel needs some serious major updates. Windows and entrance door have so many crakes that we had to put toilet paper to block the insects, such as mosquitoes, ants, etc. to come into the room. Towels are so old and ripped (see pictures attached). With that kind of condition they shouldn’t be charging what they are charging currently. They should not be in the hotel business if they are not able to provide their customers with basic essential services, such as water, electricity, and safety. I didn’t feel safe being there.
Two night stay
Great two night stay part of a bigger trip.
Beautiful and peaceful property.
What a lovely place to stay, hearing the birds in the am was very nice. highly recomend.
Wonderful secluded location in the heart of the forest. The pool was really nice and only 25 metres from our lodge. So much wildlife all around, a pair of Macaws up in a tree and many other species of birds and reptiles. The staff that provided breakfast were wonderfully friendly and overall it was a lovely place to stay.
THIS HOTEL WAS A NICE PLACE TO STAY TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL. THE TOWN IS SMALL BUT HAS ALL THE STORES AND SERVICES THAT YOU MAY NEED. THE RESTURAUNTS OFFER GOOD FOOD. PATRICICA HELP US OUT WITH TRANSPORATION AND ANY QUESTIONS THAT WE HAD. YOU REALLY GET TO HEAR HOW PURE NATURE SOUNDS LIKE. THE POOL WAS GREAT IN THE MIDDDLE OF THE DAY AND YOUR CLOSE TO MANY EXCURSIONS. I RECCOMEND THIS PLACE TO STAY TO GET OUT OF THE BIG CITY LIFE. WE WILL BE BACK.
This was our favorite property we stayed at during our trip and we stayed at multiple hotels around the country. Staff were amazing, and we loved the pool. It felt very cozy and private and like we had a little jungle paradise to ourselves. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. Only con is we wish their was more wall plugs by the beds. Breakfast was fantastic and we would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Carara National Park.
Friendly property manager, nice pool area.
Interesting property in the jungles. We stayed for one night. The room was nice, but no hot water and smelled like fresh paint. The sheets were not super clean either, but the staff is very helpful and nice. We enjoyed meeting Sandra and others. Decent breakfast. There is a great seafood restaurant next to the property in 1.2km. We loved their chicken soup!
Exceptional!
This is a wonderful place to stay! You are surrounded by rain forest at the foot of a coastal mountain range and close to the beach and Carara NP. The birding is exceptional, the staff is welcoming and eager to assist, and the “typical “ breakfast is delicious.
Beautiful place with beautiful staff. Noises of nature fill the senses.
Beautiful place!
We really loved this place! The room was larger than a New York City apartment, the grounds were beautifully kept, the pool was clean and lovely and breakfast was good. We only wish we could’ve stayed longer.
Awesome breakfast, wonderful room and facilities.
Fine for stop over
We stopped here one night as part of a longer road trip. The room was comfortable - great AC and shower and the Wifi was great. Beds are double not queen so a little small. The pool area was nice but needed a little cleaning up. We didn’t have breakfast as we left before it was available at 7.30am.
Very private and quiet
We arrived in the evening to find out theres no television and we were planning on staying 9 nights. They claimed to speak 4 different languages but only speak Spanish. They claimed to be close to Jaco but also a long drive over the mountain. They advertise cooking supplies but theres nothing to cook with not even a microwave. Also dont even have a basic cereal bowl. The cottage has several cracks and holes so impossible to keep mosquitos out so you will need to wear bug spray at night. We stayed only 1 night as we couldn't stay with these conditions plus we had to schedule breakfast with them at a specific time not able to just get breakfast between certain hours.
Property is located on the hill with gated security entrance. Rooms clean and comfortable. The owner is personally involved with providing service to guests. Great breakfast. We have enlightening conversation with Patricia she is fluent in english. Also room was pretty spacy. The property itself is very big. You can have a good walk without leaving it. Beach is about 5 min drive on dirt road, but very picturesque and you can drive along the beach to find best view of sunset.
Fabulous!
We loved our time at Selva Color! The setting is spectacular and you feel as if you're right in the heart of the rainforest. We saw plenty of spectacular birds - humming birds, toucan, macaws without even leaving the site. Patricia was so helpful and friendly, even making breakfast early for us on a few days so we could get an early start on our birding. Her language skills are very impressive - switching effortlessly between English, Spanish and French. The kids loved the pool. The room was perfectly comfortable for our needs. Would definitely recommend it.
Selva Color Ecolodge is located on absolutely beautiful grounds in a resort-like setting. The cabins are simple, efficient and accomodated most of our food prep needs. There is a fridge and barbecue but no stove. Bare bones kitchen utensils. Bring your own corkscrew! But clean, private, and lovely pool. A huge wholesome breakfast was also included. Overall, excellent experience.
Such a hreat spot and wonderful people. Beautiful grounds, with so many exotic birds. About 10 minutes out of Jaco. Perfect!
We stayed the lodge two days. Very beautiful environment and nice staff. At morning, we saw some birds on trees.
A little gem.
Lovely little spot, lots of natural planting meant birds and lizards right at the door. Comfy beds, good hot showers. Really friendly hot and tasty breakfast. It is tucked away off the main road in a locals village, but lovely soda in the village restaurants not too far away along a busy road. As for all of Costa Rica, corrugated roofs and rain forest conditions mean that ear plugs are always useful - also an eye mask for bright early mornings.
Gem of a place near Carara and beach
Selva Color is a repurposed gated community clubhouse area that one of the residents - the delightful Patricia - bought a few years ago. There are just a few cabins around the pool area, and they were designed for longer stays while people were building their homes. Accordingly, they have a decent little kitchenette which is very handy. The town of Quebrada is a typical CR town, and you need to drive down the main road a ways before reaching the large red gates that mark the entrance to Selva Color. You won’t see the sign until you turn in the gates. The acreage is quite large with nice roads leading up and around the various (unbuilt) house sites Best things - awesome birds on the property, plus great proximity to fantastic bird-watching at Carara and Rio Tarcoles. Outstanding breakfast - local artisanal cheeses made by an entrepreneur who studied cheese-making in Switzerland. It shows! The local bread, cheese and jam combination, with fresh local juices and great coffee - the best breakfast I’ve had in this country. The pool is quite pleasant, nice for a mid-day dip. The rooms are convenient and comfortable. Patricia pointed us towards good local restaurants for dinner. Good WiFi A few things to improve - upkeep and repairs could be better - the shelf in our bathroom was falling off, the walking pavers down to the pool needed to be re-seated, as they are loose. A sign or two in town pointing towards the hotel would be nice. But these were very minor detractors.
Great for families
Patricia the host was amazing. So helpful. Her English was perfect. The cabins were clean and comfortable and perfectly laid out for our family with a small kitchenette and fridge which was very useful. Breakfast was delicious and different to the usual Costa Rican breakfast with tasty breads and cheeses. The surrounding area was just stunning and so much to do. Patrixia recommended so many great restaurants and activities. The pool was beautiful and both days we saw scarlet macaws flying overhead and sitting in the trees above the pool
Would come back anytime!!
It was great. Staff is very friendly. The host speaks English, French and Spanish! Great forest-jungle feeling. Clean pool. Could not ask for more!
Remote but still easy access from the main road.
Very nice cabins in the forest. Outside of the crowds at Jaco. A real tropical atmosphere. Ac is modern and comfortable.
Incredible experience! Nothing like it, enjoy the nature. Wonderful staff, gorgeous nature sounds at night, completely secure. The breakfast was a nice bonus. You can locate the place using Google Maps.
Cozy cabin
It's a cabin in the forest. With any cabin, there are cracks and gaps. Insects cannot be avoided. Hot water is very limited. The bed is just okay. That said, what a location! So peaceful. Extremely helpful staff. You go to bed not just hearing the animals, but hearing the birds jump across your roof. One even had a next right outside our door! If you are visiting Jaco but don't actually want to stay in Jaco, I recommend this place.
Beautiful rainforest setting, Great host
We only stayed one night here, and wished we had had more time! The property is a peaceful tropical jungle even though it is still close to everything. It is a very special place. We saw toucans and heard monkeys. The host was so friendly and helpful. I felt like we were instantly friends with her. She also gave us a great recommendation for a restaurant to eat at nearby (Patacon Cevichero). The rooms are simple but very well kept and clean. The beds and pillows were comfortable. I would definitely stay here again!
A good time was had by all.
Great proprietor, spoke English well and was personable and helpful. Air conditioning was very welcome.
Hidden gem in Quebrada Ganado
Great little getaway in a small village, but set in the hills amongst the jungle. Owner Patricia is a delight and made the trip wonderful. Rooms were simple, clean and spacious. Comfort in general was fine, but beds a bit too firm for my tastes.
What a beautiful place! I was a bit worried as I drove through the town, because it was small and a bit dirty, but when I got to the site I was amazed at the feeling of being in a secluded forest. The sounds of cicadas, the macaws and other birds flying around, the butterflies... amazing. Also, the owner and staff were very friendly, helpful, and sweet. I would definitely come back here!
Neat place for the family
We had a great time with our family here. Wonderful service and neat and secure atmosphere with small hiking trails. It is in a natural setting area with cabin like accommodations, so be prepared to be woke up by the birds and other animal noises in the early morning. Air conditioning and hot water worked well too.
Lovely little spot
What a sweet little spot just outside a small town, but you feel like you're so close to the jungle. We saw a toucan just a few feet from the pool–beautiful! The owner was so friendly and we had a wonderful experience!
Owner Pleasant
Okay, but overpriced for less than stellar lodge.
Selva Color Forest & Beach Ecolodge | Hotel in Tárcoles | Travala.com
I loved Selva Color for a place to stay near Carara National Park and the village of Tarcoles, where you can see the gorgeous Scarlet Macaw Parrots, many other beautiful birds, monkeys, and other wildlife. 10 minute drive. There are Macaws right on the property to squawk their greetings as you check in. The staff was friendly and professional and answered all of my questions in English. The cabin I had was older, but beautifully decorated with the Scarlet Macaw red theme (perfect for me). Everything worked well, such ad frige and coffee maker, and everything was clean. The bed was comfortable and the secured grounds felt very quiet and safe. I went to Tarcoles village beach to watch the Macaws turn in for the evening and to enjoy a fabulous sunset. I recommend Selva Color for a good night sleep before serous birding in Carara National Park.
