We loved staying at this castle! There is so much history there and lots to be explored. We were there off-season and it seemed like we had the whole place to ourselves. Our room was beautiful and clean, and there were lots of choices on the breakfast they presented us. I would highly recommend this castle if you like historic properties. (Be sure to see the chapel as it is stunning!)

Beautiful place. If you ever want to feel like royalty stay here. And on Sunday we had the hotel all to ourselves. Cant give Schloss Matzen enough praise

Truly amazing place - to stay in a castle with parts of it over 9 centuries old. Could really use a simple sign on property on where the entrance to the hotel is - we had to wonder around a lot (restaurant was closed). Could also use more staff - we waited for over 15 minutes to be let in when we finally found the entrance and figured out where to park. Not provided much information on room amenities and spa neither. Would have been nice if restaurant were open more hours since the open patio and garden is great in the summer.

I used filters for air conditioning, wifi and parking on all of our stays while we were in Europe for the month of July. This property populated as having all of the above. First, we could not find the entrance. It is terribly confusing. When we get to what we thought was the front door, there is a flimsy paper note (that was blown upside down and unreadable) on the door. After calling I was given some terse instructions as to how to gain entry. We followed those and were eventually met by a woman with an attitude, acting as though we were an inconvenience. Once in her office, I asked about the AC as it was quite hot that day. She stated they do not provide it. I said that I was pretty sure I only searched hotels that do provide it. I asked to see the room to see if it would work. She huffed and puffed. We tried to follow her to the room, but she ran off as if we knew where we were going. Once we found the room, with no help from our receptionist, we entered and immediately found it to be very hot, stifling and terribly uncomfortable. My wife said this simply won't do. We expressed our concerns and were met with indifference and even a worse attitude. We made our decision final. Not staying. I called the manager again. He was quite rude. I explained and told him I just wanted to be fair. He assured me he would be. He has not been and in fact has ignored us.

Beautiful hotel - needs better service.

This is a unique and special property. Our room was beautiful - old-world charm and very well maintained. I wonder if they might be understaffed. Our check-in was not ideal. It was raining, we buzzed the front gate and were let into an open courtyard. It took 15 minutes for someone to finally greet us and let us into the reception area. Breakfast is self-serve. There were no porters to help carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Beautiful hotel - needs better service.

Unique! Old world feel with modern amenities

Incredible castle with outstanding staff! Miss it already

What an opportunity to stay in a castle. Met all expectations and more.

Highly recommend this place. We stumbled on it via google. It's a real old palace. You can explore the chapel and other old rooms of the palace during your stay. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was delicious. We hiked in the area for a few days and it was a bit hard to figure that out - we liked the hike "To the Barenkopf" on all trails and "Sonnwendjochhaus und Zireiner See" also on all trails and the Tirol Website. Both were full day hikes will lots of elevation gain. If you are looking to hike, email the Tirol tourist board, they were most helpful in figuring out hikes.

Wonderful stay

The castle is gorgeous. We enjoyed our suite and our daughter had a lovely double room. The setting for the gym is pretty amazing (though would love for them to add some free weights). The service was excellent with a very nice breakfast.

This was a fairytale castle, from the drive up to the warm greeting on arrival to the incredible upgrade of a suite! The daily breakfast was amazing and the grounds an little courtyard areas to sit were so special! Very romantic, no place for children here, it’s a perfect adult vacation !

The property is beautiful with a majestic park located next door. I wish we had more time to relax in the spa tower, but we were only staying 1 night. I highly recommend staying here. It is nice to get away from the standard tourist filled locations and really see Austria.

What a wonderful place. Truely a destination in itself. The service if warm friendly and professional. The castle is a wealth of hidden treasures. We booked a deluxe room and where upgraded to the Hapsburg Suite. It was beautiful, clean and tasteful. The best feature in the room was the tiny window adjacent to the toilet. The view from that window perfectly frames the nearby snowcapped mountains wonderfully and might be the best view in the entire castle. The spa and fitness facilities in the tower are unique and wonderful and the common areas are absolutely fantastic. If there was a single drawback I would say this castle is nearly 1000 years old. They did not have elevators then and most of the stairwells in the castle are the usual castle style spiral stairways. My suggestion would be to pack just what you might need for your stay in an overnight bag or carry on bag and leave the rest of your luggage in your car. Also, There are only 12 rooms in the hotel so during the off season there might only be a few rooms occupied. That is a good thing because you can imagine the castle almost belongs to you alone. The dining room is beautiful and well managed and the breakfast selection is ample, fresh and of very good quality with eggs made to order. I assumed however, it might be a little scaled back to avoid waste during this time. I might add there is a very nice italian restaurant in nearby Brixlegg called Don Camillo.

The castle was amazing. Every detail incredible! I do wish they would offer a lunch and dinner service at least when the restaurant down the way is closed.

Beautiful Castle Hotel

This is our second stay at this castle hotel- It is just amazing. Everything is beautiful and elegant. The beds are incredibly comfortable. Guests are able to explore the castle and the grounds. The staff is wonderful and they have a fantastic free breakfast included. If you are anywhere near Innsbruck or Salzburg this is a great place to stay and relax for a few days in a real castle.

STUNNING!

THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. ONE FEELS LIKE A KING AND QUEEN IN THIS CASTLE. WE WERE GIVEN A ROOM UP 87 SPIRAL STEPS WITH NO ELEVATOR! OUR ROOM WAS VER SPACIOUS AND THE SHOWER ROOM VERY GOOD. WE HAD BEEN PROMISED A ROOM WITH BATH AND SEPARATE SHOWER BUT THERE WERE NONE MORE AVAILABLE! ONE CHANDELIER IN THE ROOM DID NOT FUNCTION AND I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE SEEN TO THE NEXT DAY! THIS DID NOT HAPPEN! THE BREAKFAST IS OK BUT SUPPOSEDLY LASTS TILL 11AM. BUT WHEN I CAME AT 10.15, THEY WERE OUT OF MANY THINGS AND I HAD TO ASK FOR MILK AMONG OTHERS. THE NEXT DAY THE SAME STORY, BUT MANY MORE PEOPLE THERE BUT AGAIN WHEN THINGS RAN OUT ON THE BUFFET NOTHING WAS REPLACED.THE SOAP DISPENSER DOWNSTAIRS IN THE RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY FOR 2 DAYS AND ALSO THE BASIN DID NOT DRAIN THE WATER FOR THOSE 2 DAYS. WE WOULD GO BACK THERE AGAIN AS IT WAS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE AND WE DID ENJOY OURSELVES IN SPITE OF THE MISHAPS.

Charming and comfortable

This is an authentic old castle, and has kept most of its antique charm and surrounding park. But it is also well kept and modernized. The prices are reasonable in view of the high quality of the hotel. It has no elevator and many stairs to some of the rooms, but when my wife explained that she walks with difficulty we were given an excellent ground floor room that can be reached without stairs. It's a good place to use as a base to explore a beautiful and largely unspoiled part of the Tyrol. The breakfast is very good and varied for a small hotel, including champagne and good pastries. The service is polite and helpful. This was the hotel we liked best during a three-week tour at comparably priced hotels in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.

Beautiful hotel!

The hotel is amazing! We enjoyed the spa and walking the castle grounds very much. In fact, we enjoyed them so much that they helped override the fact that the young girl on duty didn’t seem to know much or care. We were expecting a little more from breakfast to be honest, maybe some warm dishes and were surprised to not see any eggs. In this case, having prosecco at breakfast helped to forget there were no eggs.

Wonderful castle, 1000 years old.

A bit out of the way, and getting there after 7PM is a challenge (they guyide you to your room by cell phone). Otherwise great

Lovingly and beautifully restored castle

Had a great visit to Schloss Matzen. Beautiful spot and fun property to stay in. Comfortable, beautifully decorated and Unique. There is massage available, steam and sauna but you have to schedule your usage at the front desk when you arrive. There is no staff on property at night which I think is fine at a castle. There is breakfast each morning in a lovely common area. There is a restaurant next door but it is closed on Mondays so your dinner option is in nearby towns then. There are many stairs and no elevators so keep that in mind if you have physical issues. There is a pretty park close by to walk in but no private garden at the Schloss its self. It is on a fairly busy road but still quiet in the rooms.

Beautiful Castle

Check in took a little bit longer than expected as there was no one at reception immediately. However, once checked in, the room was beautiful and clean. The receptionist couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. A true gem! The other rooms and areas of the hotel were stunning, including the library and tower which you MUST spend a little time in to enjoy. Although there is no restaurant attached to the hotel, we were recommended a place in town which was very nice. Breakfast was very nice. We had a bit of a nosey around the grounds which are lovely, but in the heavy snow, it wasn't easy to get around. I suspect once the snow goes, it will be beautiful though. We'll certainly try and get back there in Spring/Summer when the snow is gone.

A Night at an enchating castle

Staying at this castle was one of the highlights of our trip and if we are ever in the area again, we will certainly stay a night here again. Schloss Matzen has been very well renovated with modern amenities, while still maintaining the enchantment of staying the night in a castle. We were amazed at being able to explore the castle on our own, enjoying an evening in the library as well as taking advantage of magnificent views from the tower overlooking the Tyrol valley. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the owner of the hotel was also there and spoke to us and was very personable. We enjoyed our first night by having dinner and wine at restaurant below the castle which I would highly recommend. The breakfast at Schloss Matzen was really great and not a simple meal like you would have at a Hostel as a previous reviewer had stated. It included fresh pastries and a variety of fresh options that are more than enough to satisfy anyone. If you have the chance, I would highly recommend staying at the enchanting Schloss Matzen

Beautiful hotel. Very peaceful. Excellent finishes in the room and superior bedding. The multi-level spa was also great. Staff was very helpful, welcoming and friendly.

1,000 year old castle

Excellent hotel with great and friendly staff. The Schloss hotel is beautiful and so is their spa, located in a 1,000yr old tower. They have spent much keeping the place up and it shows. A must stay.

Exceptional experience!

This is a top class boutique hotel in a 1000 year old castle. We were blown away by the experience. The rooms are amazing and have made every effort to retain the character of the castle while making it a functional hotel room. The restaurant quality is 2nd to none - brilliant food. This is an experience you wont forget!

Fantastic castle - staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful

Beautiful place, gorgeous surroundings

The castle and its refurbishments are of highest quality. The room was absolutely lovely. The details were amazing. The young lady, who is apparently Cinderella, was phenomenal. She cleaned everything, prepared the breakfast. Seemed she was always working. However, the 'lady' checking us in, was seemingly disgusted that we were to be guests. Aloof and dismissive. I would put a 2 or a 3 for the service rating if it were just regarding her. Would I stay again, absolutely. We did not partake in the restaurant so we have no comment or review.

Enestående slot og sjovt at få lov til at bo som grever og baroner. Svært at ankomme når det er mørkt.

Das Personal hat nichts über das Schloss noch sonst etwas erzählt. Unser zimmer hat sehr muffig und modrig gerochen, was sehr störend war. Der Wellnessbereich hätte 30€ für 2 Stunden pro Personen Aufpreis gekostet, das war in Expedia nicht herauszulesen. Das gehört besser beschrieben. Frühstück war okay, leider gab es kein Ei. Das Personal war mit den nachfüllen auch sehr sparsam.

Wunderschönes Schloss Hotel auch sehr gemütlich, da es nicht groß ist. Die Umgebung traumhaft .Frühstück auch sehr gut. Etwas besonderes.

Mysigt slott med väldigt trevlig personal! Rent,bra frukost & stora hotellrum. Enda nackdelen är att restaurangen inte är öppen på måndagar, vi blev dock rekommenderade en annan bra restaurang ca 5 min därifrån med bil. Just, mycket trappor då det är ett slott,kan vara bra att tänka på om du har dåliga knän.

Es war ein unvergesslicher Aufenthalt. Wir kommen wieder :-)

Das Hotel ist echt der Hammer!! Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt, nur das Schlossgespenst haben wir leider nicht gesehen:-)))

Ok hotel with a nice medieval touch. However, there were too few staff members and a couple of them did not speak English.

오래된 성을 개조하여 만든 호텔로 특별한 체험. 고풍스런 방 이외에도 서재, 회의실 등 성 곳곳에 멋진 옛모습이 남아 있어 볼거리가 많고 직원들도 아주 친절함. 주차도 편리하지만 주변에 갈만한 곳은 별로 없음.

Ett underbart slott som kombinerar historiens vingslag med modern inredning. Häftig omgivning och extra plus för restaurangen Gut Matzen som ligger precis bredvid och serverar både god mat och dryck. Lägg till personlig service och härlig atmosfär samt en genuinitet som är svår att hitta.

とても広くて趣のあるお部屋

お城の塔の上の方にありました。部屋はとても広く、当時を偲ぶ家具やバスルームは一見です。特にバスルームはとてつもなく広く、バスタブとシャワーが別になっています。金装飾が貴族を思い起こさせる作りでした。朝食も結構美味しかったです。下にレストランがあってとても美味しいのですが、英語がほぼ通じないので注意。それから、周囲にはスーパーマーケットがほぼ無いです。

außergewöhnliches Hotel

Nach Ankunft wurden wir zu unserem Zimmer gebracht, anschließend haben wir eine kleine Schloßführung bekommen. Das Hotel macht einen sehr gepflegten Eindruck und ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail gestaltet. Wir hatten ein Superior-Doppelzimmer, welches uns sehr gut gefallen hat. Es war sehr geräumig, mit vielen historischen Einrichtungsgegenständen und allen Annehmlichkeiten eines modernen Hotels (Safe, Telefon, Flat-TV, Minibar, Bademantel, etc.). Das reichhaltige Frühstücksbüffet mit lokalen Wurst- und Käsespezialitäten aus Tirol, lies keine Wünsche offen.

Schlossherr für eine Nacht.

Wunderschön gestaltet - grosse Zimmer, schöne Sääle - ein einmaliges Erlebnis... ein toller Aufenthalt, den wir nicht vergessen - wir kommen wieder.
