Magical. Just magical. Stop reading reviews and book immediately!
The hacienda staff was very attentive throughout the stay.
A beautiful and amazing stay at Magical Rumiloma
Rumiloma The Best!!!
This was an amazing Sanctuary located in the mountains above the city of Quito. It was very easy to get there. We had the room called the cathedral which was amazing with a natural in-ground hot tub the authenticity of the rooms and the decor made you feel as though you are having the best Ecuadorian experience ever. They take care of you like kings and queens. The views are incredible of the mountains from the comfort of your bed and Lamas and peacocks at your windows and doors so peaceful so relaxing and they even have Wi-Fi LOL firewood for the bedrooms for the furnace and they bring you hot water bottles for your beds our family Can't Stop talking about how wonderful it was to stay at this Hacienda. My children are 11 and 14 and they loved it.
HEAVEN ON EARTH
HACIENDA RUMILOMA IS LIKE HEAVEN ON EARTH, THE LLAMAS, THE PEACOCKS, THE FRESH AIR WAS ALL EXCELLENT. I SCORE THIS PROPERTY A 10. ALL THE STAFF MEMBERS WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO PLEASE US IN EVERY WAY. I WOULD MOST DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY TO ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHAT HEAVEN IS LIKE.
A true paradise at a price that’s a total steal!
We stayed in the Cathedral suite for two nights. Our experience was simply unbelievable perfection. The suite itself is a palace and we could not believe this luxurious space was ours for just over $300 a night when such a room would easily cost anywhere between $1000 and up in the U.S. Not only was the room amazing, but the service and attention to detail was just incredible. Everything was just a dream - from the fresh fruit awaiting us in our suite to the turn down service including hot water bags heating each side of the bed, the absolutely breath-taking bouquet of roses in our suite and the rose petals spread throughout the rooms, the GORGEOUS decor. The restaurant, the bar and the grounds are also amazing. We spent our time watching the llamas, birds and peacocks that roam the property as well as hiking the grounds of the property in general. We also met the owner, Amber and she was amazing! Not only did she take the time to introduce herself and chat with us but she did everything in her power to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Amber ensures our meals were to our liking, sent tea to our room to help with some altitude related discomfort, arranged our transportation to the airport, and even arranged for us to have an hour and a half massage in our suite which was really fantastic. Really, I can’t say enough about how amazing this place is and the staff that works there. They blew all of our expectations way out of the water and made us eager to come back soon!
The property was absolutely beautiful, a wonderful, secluded get away in the mountains while still being 15 to 20 minutes from the heart of Quito. However, it didn't feel like you were anywhere close to Quito while there. The suites were phenomenal, the food was outstanding (and brought fresh to our room at the time we requested), and for no charge they filled the room with rose petals and a huge vase of roses for our honeymoon. The best part, though, was that our driver got his car stuck on the way up the mountain late in or wedding night, and when we called to tell them we would be late to check in, the owner herself drove down and gladly picked us up. That single handedly turned what could have been a terrible experience into a wonderful night, and for less than 300 a night, there is no way you can get a better location, good or service, in all of Ecuador, and definitely nowhere close to that quality for that price in the States. If you're ever in Ecuador, spend the money here. It will be more than worth every penny.
Excellent stay.
A lovely hotel with tremendous style, personality and a view to boot. Amber was as good a host as one can hope for as she is so knowledgeable about the country and what it has to offer all variety of tourists.
Amazing place. So unique. Staff was always ready to go out of their way to ensure guests comfort.
Absolutely the best choice for our lounge zone! Friendly staff, well designed rooms (amazing bathtub!), food so good we took their class & Mercado visit package. The in-room fruit basket was superior and we wikipedia’d To figure out the cucumbermelon! Have already recommended Hacienda Rumiloma to other couples looking for a serious get away in a beautiful location.
This hotel is wonderful! It is a beautiful mountain oasis just 10 minutes outside of quito. We spent 4 days here before going to the galapagos. We did various day trips outside of quito to explore. The grounds of the hotel are so nice the best part is almost being at the hotel! Innkeeper's family and staff take great care of you. Restaurant is great. You should stay here, there can't be any place better in Quito!
Lovely location and room but not much sleep...
Beautiful location (up a steep road that our Uber couldn’t quite navigate, so we had to walk the last half mile) with a lovely room with a bouganvillea growing inside. Food at the restaurant was fine, too. Visited in part to go birdwatching the following morning at 6am on a tour arranged by the hotel with a local guide. Was unfortunately kept awake till 2am by thumping music. Our group was told by the owner that we wouldn’t have to pay for the rooms because of the noise, which seemed very generous. Apparently owner later changed her mind, and I was billed in full. While owner and I have not been in contact, owner told other members of my group in an email that I had said I slept well.... the fact is, I didn’t. Lovely location but was frustrated by the loud music that ran late into the night at a place that also seems to want to care about nature.
Approach with caution
A quirky lodge with a few suites in a valley above Quito, advertised as a natural oasis with birds hard to find elsewhere (they arrange guides) — why my group went. But the suites overlook the lodge’s restaurant / club and terrace, which also serves city visitors. We arrived Friday with a half-day bird tour set for 6 am. After early dinner in the then quiet restaurant (big portions, avoid the lamb stew) we fell asleep at 9:30. At 10:30 the club came to life. It was impossible to sleep for the bass thump and voices of revelers. Headphones did not work! The proprietress (American born) said the noise would stop at midnight. It ended at 2. I sadly missed the birding to sleep. My husband, son, and brother-in-law went: great birding, but they were wrecked. The proprietress told us after-the-fact it was busy every Friday and blamed the sound on a new DJ. She agreed to charge us only for food. She did not keep her word. She later offered us a partly reduced charge that compensated her loss with every conceivable fee. She claimed the noise levels outside her club “tested” at 36 dB (which googles to +/- birds singing outside a library!). She accused us of stiffing the guide, whom we paid directly after waiting half an hour for someone on her staff to show up so we could pay! When we disagreed she left the room charge at full price. So: Beware of noise on Friday night (Saturday too?), and the boss-lady’s promises. Good luck getting an answer on the service phone.
Great hotel for nature lovers
We had a wonderful stay. Very comfortable. Staff was excellent. Food was great. We met the owner, who was wonderful as well. Beautiful grounds. We loved the guitarist in the restaurant when we arrived. We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds at the feeders. Great views from the restaurant and the room. Highly recommend this hotel.
Nice hotel in the mountains
The hotel was lovely with traditional Spanish style decor. It's located in the mountains and the views are very relaxing. The food is delicious - but on the expensive side. Everyone working at the hotel is so friendly and accommodating. The only down side is getting there. It's really high up and you have to pass through a rural area to get to it. Also, it's dangerous to get up the hill when it rains, as most of our taxis slipped backwards because of how steep the road is. Just make sure you're in a SUV and you should be okay. You may suffer from altitude sickness as well, so bring the appropriate meds. This is the second best hotel in Quito after Casa Gangotena.
Best honeymoon ever
My wife and I spent our honeymoon here during the winter holidays. The hotel and landscaping is beautiful and the staff is hospitable. The rooms are also one of a kind with decor and a very cozy one of a kind feel...old world furniture, fireplace, and very classic and clean looking Cabañas. A must go when in Ecuador!
Amazing views from outside the city
Amazing Views, Llamas and peacocks roam around the property. Room was gorgeous. Like other people have mentioned, this is not in the city, it is on the western mountainside, and it is a good 1-1 1/2 hour drive to the airport. Also, there is no wifi or tvs in the room (as it's a resort...) so bear that in mind. Staff, although limited in English, were very friendly. Restaurant was amazing.
Potential lost in amateur execution
This hacienda's authenticity and outstanding landscape have all the potential to be a 5 star hotel, but lack of facilities and services prevent it from being one. There's hardly ever any staff/front desk, and when there is (usually the waiter) they don't speak any English. It's ok if you don't get what you want for your breakfast (we eat too much anyway), but it's really annoying when you try to tell them to help bring down your heavy luggage when you're in a rush to the airport and the taxi's waiting. The restaurant's menu is very pretentious, but food's nothing to write home about. The rooms are very cold at night/morning but there's no a/c or heating. Other than that, the staff's extremely nice (though no English), the place is very clean, and pretty. It's just not enough. They try to sell you their outrageously pricy SPA and jacuzzi, but boy, have they got bigger fish to fry!
Beautifully located in the Andes, the hotel is exquisite and charming, great staff and incredibly wild life in the surroundings
The hacienda is really spectacular if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing night. Small, only 6 rooms, and outside of the city enough so there is virtually no noise. Lovely views of the mountains and of Quito. The food in the restaurant is even better - among the best meals I have eaten in Ecuador. Unfortunately I'm really annoyed by one major thing: our room was advertised as having a fireplace and a bathtub and had neither. Our booking sheet (from hotels.com) AND the hacienda's website both clearly state fireplace and bathtub - our room was the Cathedral suite and it just wasn't true. Apparently they had a large deep tub but it was removed about 6 months ago. Never had a fireplace. Because the hotel was full we couldn't consider moving to a different room. I emailed the hacienda a week ago and have not heard any response. It's a shame because so much of the stay was wonderful. However I would only recommend staying there if you contact them by phone ahead of time and makes sure you are getting what is advertised. It was hugely disappointing to arrive and not have two of the key features we thought we were paying for. It is also worrying that no one has responded to my messages in a week.
A classic. A must if you are in Quito.
I highly recommend the restaurant and awesome breakfast with a great view.
Really nice room and restaurant-exotic feel.
We booked this location for our last night in Quito after a week in the Galapagos. I had hoped to get there before dark--but I did not realize how far this place is from the new airport in Quito. It took us an 1.5 hours to get from the airport to the Hacienda. The place is lovely. Our room was very large and very clean. The restaurant served dinner until 11 pm which suited us well as we arrived late. WIFI was avail in the lobby and worked well. In the morning we were able to see the grounds, which were lovely. The llamas were very close by as were the peacocks. The area was well maintained. I would recommend this place as a quiet out of the way special location. Just be aware of the distance to the airport if you have a tight schedule. The hotel arranged transportation for us which was nice. It cost $65 each way.
Breathtaking views of Quito from Rumilloma
Just the views alone are worth the stay, plus the staff is incredible. The restaurant is 4.5 / 5 and the rooms are quite unique. The hotel is VERY relaxing, if you can get over being at 10,000 feet. I travel ALL OVER the globe and would go back to Rumiloma to relax. =D Plus there are Lamas and peacocks on property that really add to the uniqueness and charm of Rumiloma.
Great escape from the cits in the foothills
The food was very good but a bit pricey. Everything else was just spectacular.
Lovely place to stay with very attentive staff
Stayed here with my boyfriend for four nights. We loved the place! It's very charming, feels like a relaxing mountain retreat, and has a wonderful view of Quito. The staff was extremely helpful in making reservations, arranging transportation, and providing tips for dealing with cabs in Quito. Their restaurant is excellent and as good as any restaurant we tried in Quito. We would definitely stay here again! We found that it was consistently a $10 cab ride to and from downtown Quito. There is WiFi in the restaurant and other common space, but not in the rooms. There's lots of comfy seating in the main building, so we were happy to walk over there when we wanted to look something up online.
Best hotel near Quito/ in Equador!
The staff were all friendly and accommodating, esp Julio. This becomes your home. Llamas, peacocks, hummingbirds everywhere you look. It was my birthday and the staff took it upon themselves to provide me with a special dinner in a room filled with flowers and balloons ( no charge). I will go back every year if possible!
romance at elevation
Spent two days at rumiloma- excellent hotel with impeccable service. The view from all angles of the hotel is outstanding and there are llamas and peacocks, which make the stay whimsical. The prices are a little steep for ecuador, and the location, while amazing, is a little inconvenient to the airport and at a decent elevation. Other than these two things we were quite pleased with our stay.
Best boutique hotel on hill (east side)
Wonderful staff and location. Be aware of the board like feeling beds. Great food. Staff best in Ecuador. Have a powerful car to get up hill ;). Have fun finding this place...lol
Unique
Outstanding hospitality. Bucolic, remote surroundings.
It was a slice of Heaven!
We came off a wonderful boat trip through the Galapagos Islands, which had a very rigorous schedule starting at 7AM daily. I had seen this hotel on line and fell in love with it. We decided to tack on 2 days at the end of our trip to relax without a schedule. This was the best decision I ever made. We arrived to a fire going in the living room, fresh roses on the table, hot water bottles in our bed and fresh cookies on the night stand! In the morning the breakfast that was included, was served on our porch with fresh blackberry juice. The decor was incredible:l tasteful, warm, antiques and copper. The first night I sank into the huge copper tub. We had dinner both nights in their restaurant. I am a chef and I thought the food was amazing. We never left the property until it was almost time for our plane. The owner is an American with a lovely, bubbly personality. The staff was one of the best I have ever dealt with. They were professional, yet warm and friendly. Most of them spoke English, or tried.
a little piece of heaven high above Quito
This beautiful hacienda, perched about 1000 feet above Quito offers incredible views, fabulous ambience (llamas and peacocks greet your arrival), excellent food and outstanding staff. Although about a 15 minute taxi ride from the heart of Quito, the solitude and overall experience more than makes up for it. Recommended without reservation to those who don't want or need to be in the hustle and bustle of downtown Quito.
Lovely artistic retreat
Beautiful everywhere you look! Would highly recommend this hotel to all but the elderly, as the steps outside to your hacienda are a little steep and you have to really duck under branches above the path and steps-especially difficult with an umbrella which we needed as it was during a rainy period. Staff was great but didi insist on us being at the airport 3 hours before departure so had to leave at 4:30 AM for 8:50 AM departure, which was a little too much. The airport is 1-1/2 hours from the hotel.
wonderful hacienda
was a problem with our room but hotel compensated us for it and service was excellent. the location is stunning, be prepared for the altitude though
Cupid Nest
This was our honeymoon trip I did request for special decorations when I booked the hotel online. It was a 30 min ride from the airport. We crossed downtown, valley, small town, and rural area and finally reached the Pichincha volcano neighborhood. The hotel driveway actually heads to the volcano. So the hotel is on the base of the volcano :) We were welcomed by a couple of Lamas, peacocks and then the hotel staff showed us to the room. It was like a private cottage, everything was antique and so vintage. They had decorated the entire cottage with roses, when we opened the door there was roses everywhere starting with a rose heart welcoming us and rose petals leading us to the living room and on the table there was bunch of roses and rose petals leading us to the bedroom and the bathroom and copper bath tub antique looking filled with rose petals. We got so excited as it was like dream came true. Breakfast was so good and the whole hotel is filled with awesome antique and vintage collection. We meet the owners they are so amazing and welcoming folks they are big time collectors. We had a chat with their daughter also such a lovely and a nice kid and her friend Mr.Coffee. I have traveled a lot and this place is top of the list and I think will be there forever such a lovely place and people with amazing view of the city between the valley which we enjoyed watching having dinner on the roof top patio area. This place is amazing and awesome :) Stay there and u will know.
Incredible place with a view of Quito
This place is in the same league as the Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons but much smaller and intimate. The owner is there to help you. The staff is incredible Would not consider staying anywhere else when in Quito
Hotel in the hills with a view
Rumiloma is a beautiful, small property overlooking Quito. The views from the terrace and restaurant are incredible, and you can enjoy your delicious meals (breakfast included) looking out on the city, with the resident llamas and peacocks by your side. The rooms are very nice and comfortable, decorated in a rustic fashion (be sure to look at the online room photos, they are a good representation of the style and amenities). In the evenings, they had a fire going and hot water bottles for the bed, as it is cool at night in the mountains. Our only issue with our room was a noisy pipe that made a banging sound about every 30 minutes. They were aware of the issue when we brought it to their attention - it needs to be fixed. To get to the hotel from the airport was 1:30 with traffic, and going back to the airport was 45 minutes with no traffic in the early morning. We found it to be comparable to drive times from the airport to other parts of Quito (i.e. old town). We used the hotel driver to go into the city, but otherwise enjoyed relaxing on the property for our last weekend in Ecuador after an amazing, but exhausting, week in the rainforest. It is a very special place with attentive service, and we recommend staying there. A wonderful place if you would like to relax and recharge in the hills of Quito.
AWSOME ANDEAN HIDEAWAY OVERLOOKING QUITO, EQUADOR
Family recently spent three nights at Rumiloma. Arrived very early (2am) in the morning after long day of travel. Greeted by staff who quickly took us and our luggage to our quarters. No hassle with credit cards/ payments etc. Our accommodations were superb. We had a two bedroom suite with large hot tub and sitting area. The rooms were quite, and comfortable. We were served breakfast in the resturant each morning. We found the food selection and quality to be excellent. We were most impressed by the friendliness and caring attitude of the staff and Owner. Every staff member new us by nameThey assisted us in planning other activities and travel around Quito and Ecuador. Service was impeccable. We were treated with true "Southern hospitality" throughout our stay. 6 Stars out of 5.
Wonderful get away!
My husband and really enjoyed Hacienda Rumiloma. The staff was extremely thoughtful and helpful. The room itself was beautiful and very comfortable, the one little hiccup was that there was an interesting sound at night where either pipes were creaking or something was, but other than that it was so comfortable and romantic. The food overall was very good and the service was even better. They were even kind enough to set up a dinner for us at Zazu along with a taxi, which was the best meals we had in all of Ecuador!
Character-rich hacienda with superb views
We stayed here on the last night of our trip after a week in the Galapagos and it was the perfect place to relax before heading back to the States. The style and decor is exactly as you imagine based on their web site. The details are amazing ... right down to the rose petals decorating the dining tables. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel. Both were a refreshing change from the monotony of the food on Galapagos. Go ahead and splurge on dessert -- the macademia nut pie was delicious! It was a little colder at that elevation, so you'll want to have warmer clothes. But if you don't come prepared, it's OK. They had warm alpaca robes in each room and when they turned down the bed, they left us hot water bottles (the real old fashioned kind) so it was toasty warm. It was well worth the drive up the side of the mountain to get there!
Very unique and romantic
I stayed there at the start of our vacation to the Galapigos, and it was probably one of the best parts. We had 2 days in Quito before we headed to the island. This place was perfect. We arrived to Lamas on the stairway to our private room. Woke up in the morning to peacocks outside the window of the restaurant where we had breakfast. It was very unique, very romantic. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The taxis had a hard time finding it, but the staff gave us a number to call for taxis that they used that would know how to get to the place. That was helpful. We had debating staying at a nice hotel right in old town, but we were extremely happy we had chose this place instead, and wished we had a day or two more there. It was very relaxing, and not a far ride to town. Max. 10 minutes. So much better then a standard hotel where the rooms look all the same. Our fireplace was lit for us at night before we got to the room so it would be warm. I highly recommend it. At the end of the trip we had a place booked in downtown Quito and had we had known how nice this place was, we would have ended our vacation there as well. The view was amazing.
best hotel in the world
I loved everything about it. not a business hotel but for people who want to get away and can do without TV and radio this is great.
Unique character hotel in the mountains
What a breath of fresh air after all the identical box like rooms in the USA! Loved this hotel. Felt like we were staying in an actual Andean house with a five star restaurant attached. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpfull. Hovering 2000 feet above Quito, still near enough to pop down while being in the peace and quiet of the mountains. From the llamas that greet you in the parking lot to the beautiful peacocks that wake you up in the morning, this is an amazing experience. Suites are decorated in a traditional Andean style with separate lounges that include indoor gardens, huge stone bath tubs and wood burning stoves that are nice at night even though you are on the equator. Perfect place to acclimatize to the altitude if you are into mountaineering.
Totally unique hotel, and amazing location
2 nights spent there before heading to the Amazon. Spectacular hotel - rustic in design, but beautifully decorated and well managed. Each suite has its own unique design, including a wood burning fireplace and we even had an inside garden with sweet-smelling Star Jasmine. Located at over 10,000 ft altitude, the first day took a while to get used to walk the 2 floors pathway to our room, with 50% glass top ceiling, amazing views over Quito and surrounding mountains (15,000 ft). Just a very a special, unique place with great people and excellent food. A must do hotel, includes peacocks, llamas etc. Has at most 20 suites, so very intimate.
El lugar es hermoso rodeado de naturaleza con linda vista a Quito, mi cuarto estuvo espectacular y la atención de primera.
This place is amazing for a quiet and restful stay, also if you want to have a romantic time. Food at the restaurant is really good, although little expensive, otherwise I would do this as my weekend place to lunch or dinner. For sure a recommended place to stay if you want to be close to the city key touristic points, or if you will go up to Pichincha summit
Magico y acogedor
Gran experiencia en un lugar de fantasía. Una vista hermosa, personal muy atento.

Failed to show up for airport transfer to property. We got a taxi that got lost then was unable to climb the mountain due to their road conditions. We had to climb the mountain by foot to attempt to check in but the staff had already left for the evening and failed to respond when we continued to ask for assistance. Our flight arrived at midnight and at 2am my family was still not sure where we would be staying the next 3 days/nights. Taxi driver was awesome and found us a safe place to rest for the remainder of the morning until we could find accommodations.
