Great location, no wifi in cabins.
Beautiful quite grounds located in a great area. Not the safest bear safety education nor doors to the tents very secure.
A special romantic place for a couple getaway
The location is amazing, our cabin was next to the small lake surrounded by forest, it was clean and comfortable with a small kitchen to make our breakfast. The property had many romantic spots to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and a floating bridge across the lake to the italian restaurant. The food at the restaurant was off the chart good both in taste and presentation. The walk back over the lighted bridge in the dark to the cabin was especially romantic. The perfect place to getaway for a couple
Could have more bathrooms or and water stations. It’s a bit like camping.
Great Vacation
Great weather, friendly staff, great location. This is a great little get away. We did a 4 day kayaking trip. Beautiful Lakes around the area.
We booked Ruby Lake Resort because it offers dog-friendly accommodation with a kitchen. We stayed 3 nights in the Deluxe Cottage, 2 Double Beds, Kitchen, Lagoon View. The resort itself is in a beautiful setting with plentiful opportunities for wildlife and nature viewing. The Italian restaurant on site is the real gem here. We would have chosen to stay elsewhere if we'd known that the cabin would be dark, damp and musty-smelling. The cabins have a lagoon view, but passersby (other guests walking or driving to their cabins, staff in golf carts) can peer right in when you have the drapes open. One of the beds is starting to sag. The bathroom window screen is torn, so the window can't be opened without letting bugs in. The resort decided to turn off the water supply on the morning of checkout - apparently repairs were needed on the water tanks. Ruby Lake Resort was just a collection of things that kind of almost work but not quite. More examples from the owner herself: - all the guests staying in the glamping units share a single portapotty due to a portapotty shortage - the credit card payment machine is flaky so your transaction may or may not go through, putting the onus on the guest to return to the front desk in the morning to retry the transaction The good: - it was clean - the bathroom was spacious and the nicest part of the cabin
Excellent manager who went out of her way to help out. Beautiful setting.
Property setting is idylic. Good beach for kids. Kayaks, etc., available. We arrived at 4 pm. No one at reception. Someone from restaurant came in and said that check in did not open until 5 PM although reservation said 3 PM. We prepared to look around for an hour but then another person arrived and checked us in. He showed us approximately where our cabin was located on a map but when we arrived in the area it was a maze of tents and cabins with no signage to help find a specific one. We evantually foud our cabin and discovered it was a bare wooden box with two rather elderly looking beds and no bathroom although on Expedia a full bathroom was listed as an amenity. We went back to reception and, fortunately they were able to upgrade us to a cottage with full bath for a modest extra amount. The cottage was nice but still fairly basic. Reasonable for the cost. However, bath did not drain well. Staff were friendly although woman who seated people at restaurant was rather brusk and strident. Fortunately, there was a very nice young man backing her up who was friendly and helpful. Food was good but not great. Food prices reasonable.
Poor services,interuppTed water supply
It was everything and more. The restauranwas excellent, the unit was clean, the staff were so friendly even the dog was super. Best p,ace I have stayed on this trip! Will for sure book there again.
quite
Beautiful natural setting with awesome lake access. Rooms were a bit damp and tired.
The overall atmosphere, the lagoon and the lake
Beautiful location!
Beautiful spot, friendly staff, and great food. Caters to vegans as well.
Loved the tent we stayed at, was nothing fancy but it was so cozy, If you are looking for a place that is surrounded by nature, a camping experience this is the place for you.
Worth a stop and stay!
Beautiful location and quiet getaway! Service was great! Room was clean! Quaint cabin. Food at the restaurant was delicious! We only stayed one night and needed longer.
It's okay & a nice place to stay if you just want a quite environment.Best time to be here is probably summer(we went during fall).Do know that this place doesn't have wifi (which shocked me a bit as we booked it quickly) & the network signal is not too strong too.Nevertheless, its a pleasing place to stay in.
This resort is unique, peaceful, neat and tidy. I enjoyed the nature walks and the beautiful lagoon outside my front door. Staff were polite and very helpful. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to get away from it all.
Away from it all ..
We asked the check in lady where we could get a coffee . She could not help.. we drove 20k for coffee later to find out she could have easily given us the ground coffee, cups and sugar etc to make coffee in the common kitchen.. also no restaurant on certain days... so pack as if you are truly camping .. otherwise its a very nice, serene camping area.. great swimming in the lake..
A very nice resort experiencing the camp vacation in the clean tent and water sports in Ruby lake from the private access of the resort. Next time I will choose the tent with lake view which maybe more beautiful and quiet.
Mediocre property. Heavy mouldy smell. Very limited utensils set is available , even at a “deluxe” cottage. Soundproofing is terrible. Unsafety access to the Lake. No crossroad , no special road signs. However , the beds are comfortable. Shower is hot.
Ruby Lake
We really enjoyed our short stay and we were all sad to leave. The grounds were whimsical with little gardens and birds. The lake was warm and a beautiful turqoise colour. The kids enjoyed the variety of water activities. The washrooms needed some maintenance...no toilet paper etc but otherwise a very good time!
We do not ever post a negative review, but…. …this was actually a big mistake and we did not even stay at the resort after paying and checking the place out. 1. The Safari Tent @ $230 a night is a joke. We are used to all kinds of accommodations traveling the world, and this should be 50 bucks at the most…even then I’m not sure if we would stay. We were lucky enough to find a great, well-appointed room at the nearby West Coast Wilderness Lodge in Egmont @ 229.50……while looking for a place to eat. And we also tent at the BC backcountry campgrounds, where BC Parks have great, environmentally friendly outhouses…a plastic port-a-potty??? 2. The restaurant the at the resort is closed on Wednesday 3. Even the way you suppose to park is…a questionable requirement. While there is a large, safe spot right by the tent, you have to drive trough a backroad to a very small, unsafe spot and descent with your stuff by a narrow, steep trail and stairs 4. The resort has plenty of rental equipment….except not enough safety vests due to the sanitation practices. The lovely receptionist, who was very polite and professional, suggested we should go somewhere to buy some and then they would rent us the equipment. (With all the due respect, we received an email that there might be a shortage of vests…but if you want to rent your equipment, shouldn’t you prepare for it ???) It was our last moment decision to stay a day longer at the Sunshine Coast and I'm glad we did not have to finish it like this
Great place! Cabins w basic amenities in a beautiful location. Loved the restaurant, too!
I stayed in a cabin. It was dirty and dusty, smelled awful and was full of mosquitoes. We tried to spend as little time as possible in there. I can only describe it as “GROSS”.
The setting was relaxing...good food at italian restaurant and the upper safari tent section looked great
Good resort~
Great place to stay overnight with my hubby~
Lodge #5. Carpet and bed are old. glasses were used and coffee maker was empty but not cleaned.
Glamping tents ... something a little different and fun.
The view was pretty The bed was dirty The Italian restaurant was yummy
So much more than just a place to sleep!
My hubby and I stopped in one night on our way home from a long weekend on Texada. Of the many room styles available, we stayed in a charming modular safari tent (with no washroom) a short walking distance from a nearby well-maintained outhouse, about 100 metres in from the highway. Before turning in for the night, we savoured a delicious, well-priced dinner on the covered patio at the on-site restaurant, the Italian Trattoria; we shared salad, calamari, and the daily special of seafood pasta. Our bed was comfortable (one pillow each), and we slept quite well most of the night. The only intrusion was the intermittent sound of streams cars driving between ferry terminals on the highway. On a scale of 1-10, it was a 3 for bothersome The resort grounds feature a wide variety of nature-focused amenities, including a wildlife sanctuary, an outdoor theatre, many walking trails, a private beach for swimming or boating (we swam -- it was lovely!), craft & play areas, and interesting art on display throughout the grounds. There are also well-maintained centralized shower / washroom facilities for guests to use. This is a great resort for families who want to immerse themselves a bit more in a nature & conservationism mindset, and are willing to do a small amount of "roughing it." You get such great value for the money if you can appreciate what type of experience Ruby Lake Resort offers!
The accomodations were unique. Portapotties were always digusting.thank god for the flush toilets and showers. Ridiculous prices at the restaurant. The so called beach front is 10 ft by 10 ft boat launch was disappointing. Could only get coffee in the morning and if you weren't there early enough you didn't get any. Front desk woman was clueless on other dining options . Would only go back if able to book one of their rooms with bathrooms and cooking facilities
We stayed in one of the tents (the one with the beaver painting outside). The tent was clean, the bed incredible comfortable. I was afraid I would wake up at 6 am because of the sunlight but the trees gave a nice shade so that the tent felt cool and with a dim light. The washrooms are close by and are kept very clean.
I had an interesting experience with a bear and a mouse
Great staff! Friendly environment ..lots to see & waunder around on trails erc. Nice touch to hav access to a communal fridge & coffee. Only thing i would suggest is better lighting when needing to go up steps to washroom, path was dark. Otherwise of course we will visit again.
Fun night
We wanted to try something different. Great time in a deluxe tent.
Horrible service ruined nice accomodations
The stay would have been more comfortable and overall higher if not the very bad taste with check in. On Hotels.com and RubyLake website both say check in is 3-9pm. We arrived at 8:45, waited, honked horn (1x), yelled to get attendant to cross the road and check us in. Twenty minutes of standing around after a long day. We were tired and then the Very rude person told us we shouldn't book online as online was wrong and check in time cutoff was 8pm. We were told that on line bookings always paid more and we should always deal with hotel directly.
Wild life was great, great Italian food, acommodation was excellent.
Having a BBQ for the guests to use was a really nice touch. The location near a lake was serene. The bridge across the lake was so cool. And I did not like that in our shower, the water would pool (I.e. not drain properly).
Access to trails and lake views, also the restaurant was delicious!
GLAMPING ON THE SUNSHINE COAST
Easy check-in. Cozy glamping tent in the wilderness. Great trails to wander through the woods. Delicious Italian restaurant with quirky design.
The area the resort is located is beautiful. The lake and the resort are beautiful. The staff was extremely nice. The logistics of the resort were not very harmonious. A few minutes from the ferry’s north terminal, the resort and Italian restaurant are on one side of the hwy with a small parking lot. Across the 2 lane hwy (101), is a (very) small beach and dock area. The water was wonderful and guests friendly, but not a whole lot of room. We booked a safari tent. You drive from the resort, three driveways up and then drive around a little dirt road to one of the canvas tents lined up on a wooded hillside. They’re set up nice with a bed, few pieces of furniture, and a little deck area but no fan. (BC was pretty much no air conditioning anyways). We peaked in the tent and weren’t very excited. For a “remote feeling” getaway maybe during cooler, more campy temputures this would be fun and cozy. During sweltering heat.....Not so good. We had dinner at the Italian restaurant. Again, the staff was extremely nice, my salmon fettuccine delicious, but the rest of the meal was not impressive and expensive. We didn’t stay the night and made a run for home. (Oregon). Touring the Sunshine Coast is beautiful, but I would do it more of a day trip, enjoying the ferry rides and maybe a night in Powell River with a stop to swim in Ruby Lake.
to much party
Both nights we stayed there was way to much noise from parties past midnight .It seems that the resort is rented out to large groups with no rules on partying past midnight, the wash rooms were great but a 100 meter walk from the tent cabin which can be a bit daunting in the middle of the night. No sleeping in as the roosters and peacocks start crowing at 5;30 am and go non stop.
stayed In the safari tent and it was great. very private and quiet. the lake is beautiful will definitely be going back!
Nice cabin near a small lake. No sound proofing between duplex. Otherwise value for money
The surroundings are beautiful. The cabins are musty smelling and need remodeling.
Tranquility ruined
Why would you destroy the tranquility with the roosters? Makes no sense. If we wanted to visit a farm with crowing roosters we would. Tranquility destroyed!
Nice outdoor grounds area
We got a cabin that was clean but very dated (especially the cookware). With light bedding and no extra blankets at all, we were freezing at night, even in summer. The communal BBQ area was cute but had just 1 BBQ for all guests to share & it had a problem with its heat setting. There was a fire pit to use, but it had a sign on it saying not to use because there's a fire ban in effect. A fellow guest called the local fire department to confirm this & they denied it. We asked the staff why the lie, & they said was because a previous guest had burnt hot dogs & annoyed everyone with the smell. We thought that was really low-grade of the staff to pull since why should one guest ruin a bonfire experience for everyone else. It's just hot dogs for petes sake. That's the whole idea of going to a rustic resort like this. That said, the staff were friendly & did let us use the fire pit after that.

This is a fantastic unique spot, with many things to do and a great Italian restaurant. We liked the cozy tents. A couple of things were concerning. We did notice, that many of the tents were left open, unoccupied and the bedding had been used. Since it's the end of the season, they may have let some workers go, so they are not bothering to clean up right away. It was a bit strange. One other thing was in the middle of the night there were cars revving their engines and squealing tires very close by for about an hour. It kept us awake, since we were right beside the highway. I was a bit concerned since we were the only ones staying in the tent area, that someone could ransack the place. But, I imagine in the summer time during busy season this place is fantastic. We will go back.
