We had great service and the staff were very friendly
Amazing hotel great service
The food was no goumet stype but was good. Arranging transport was a real hassle. Try & make the place more child-friendly too, starting wirh half price etc...& activities for them too
We liked location large bedroom with sea view large swimming pool, attractive grounds. We didn’t like Slow service in all restaurants / bars (but didn’t use Japanese restaurant so can’t say) . Large amounts of mould in our bathroom and the permanent smell of damp in the room. The fact that the loungers and parasols were ‘pre-booked’ either by the majority of German and Russian guests risers who didn’t reappear for hours or by being ‘encouraged’ to pay a pool guy to miraculously conjure one up!
Fabulous
The stay was amazing and staff very friendly, enjoyed it very much.
Nice Pool Big Rooms, look great Food excellent Fitness room excellent Tennis courts ok Beach awful because of sellers, who try to sell you trips every 2 minutes Beach: Swimming most of the time not allowed and also not really possible Mold smell in room Service bad: Room often not made, they are noisy very early in the morning Breakfast only till 9:30, which was a bit early in general
Super!
Very helpful friendly stay, nice hotel with great facilities!
Very relaxing stay here en route to the airport. We were under the impression that the hotel had a 24 hour airport shuttle but we were too late to book a seat. After initially panicking the reception booked us a taxi from outside to pick us up, panic over!!
Nice layout.good staff. Nice rooms draw back are bad reception scents and a little rundown
Ok hotel
We were only there a day 2 days one night. The chef Neerl made us a cheese and onion toastie his first time which was kind and not on the menu. We booked a sea view but got a pool view but couldn’t move us as they said they were fully booked ! That was it! It’s over an hour away from airport and cost £50 for taxi which is expensive.
Great resort good buffet breakfast nice sunsets cabana resturaunt had great food although a little pricey
Lovely family resort!
we came as a family group and had a wonderful stay. Service is excellent, and staff are very friendly. the hotell is wast with several restaurants to choose from, and the food was very nice. the hotel is right next to the beach. when we were there the sea was a little too rough for swimming in the waves, but we still had loads of fun in the large pool. I can easily recommend this hotel :-)
Ok to stay for one night
It is an old hotel but pretty well maintained since the room was clean. The staff members at the restaurants were amazing and the taste of food was good. But the staff who helped us with check-in was not comfortable speaking in English and gave us a wrong information that I had to inform the reception in order to have buffet for dinner. After we got into the hotel room she called us to come down to the reception to get a 'repeated band' since it was my second visit. We asked her whethere there would be any special service by having the band. She told us "I don't know". It was very annoying to go down and get the band around my wrist. There was no point having the band.
This place was amazing. Highly recommended.
EXCELLENT HOTEL AND CUSTOMER SERVICE ON THE BEACH
OUR FIRST TIME IN SRI LANKA AND WHAT A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE. THE HOTEL WAS RIGHT ON THE BEACH WITH AN AMAZING POOL. THE STAFF WAS EXCELLENT AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL ESPECIALLY TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
Pleasant stay
Pleasant enough hotel with friendly hotel. Food was lovely with good choices for breakfast. The room we were in had a great sea view and was cleaned and attended to but the balcony was often pooped on by crows and not cleaned. The pool whilst large and looked welcoming was in need of more regular cleaning. The pool area needs some updating to paths and tiles. You cannot use the beach because of the constant hounding by salespeople and the sea is too dangerous to swim in.
A Place to Park Yourself and Enjoy
This is a luxury resort where you can park yourself after some sightseeing in the center of the country. It has a very nice meandering pool, most but not all of it shallow for children safety, access to a long and wide sandy beach with a life guard and waves that take some getting used to and might intimidate some. There are three restaurants, one with a very nice buffet for 15 euro and two others. Breakfast is very rich and spans English to Sri Lankan versions of the first day meal. The place is super clean, indoors and out. Staff are very friendly and helpful. My wife came in with a bad cold, and within one hour one doctor and two uniformed nurses paid her a visit and gave her very effective medicin. We spent four nights and did not really see the need to leave the place, coming after days in the jungle and close to monuments, but the hotel staff will be happy to arrange tours for you. All in all, a very pleasant stay for all ages, though not one of the friendliest beaches in Sri Lanka.
Disappointing stay
This hotel is ‘tired’ public areas are very good and kept clean and attractive, but bedrooms are dated and bathrooms are in need of an update !! Towels and beach towels are worn and washed out !! Our biggest complaint was with reception staff , we had to ask three times to get anything done!! No one seemed particularly interested in helping or advising!! We were left with the impression that this hotel is given over to ‘tours’ staying 2or 3 nights so no effort is given to make your visit special, perhaps a good management team is needed to get this hotel up to scratch!!
"Good and Bad"
The place was attractive .Staff was friendly and helpful .Food was fantastic. Condition of the room was poor. The rooms need major renovation
Brilliant hotel
Really fantastic hotel with the most helpful staff. Arranged sightseeing for us and took us to see sights. Really knowledgable. Fantastic driver who got us to the airport when trees were down and roads closed. Super place.
lovely hotel ...
enjoyed the stay verh much, superb staff very friendly and helpful. delicious food. overall best bech hotel in the area.
Nice and comfortable hotel
Although it's slightly old, the buildings were well maintained, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. We liked the traditional interiors in the room. Good view from the room. The foods are good, mixture of traditional Sri Lankan and western foods in a good balance. Personals are very friendly and responsive. You can reach to Tangerine hotel easily (which is connected), and the facilities can be used there, too. Overall we are very satisfied by the stay.
Wonderful Resort. Highly Recommended
I highly recommend this resort. If you are looking for a great resort experience in its own right, either all inclusive or pay as you go, this hotel has wonderful facilities and lots of things to do. Daily activities include yoga, water aerobics, crazy golf, water polo, badminton etc etc. The pool is huge and winds around most of the resort. The food is of the highest quality for the buffets, best I have ever had...pastas, seafood, steaks, burgers, sri lankan curries, salads, amazing desserts. The food service staff are efficient and very friendly. I was also able to play pool and billiards. Staff assisted with early check in which was appreciated. The main building is very royal looking indeed, with great art and extremely high ceilings. The bed in room was comfortable with great pillows. The room was perfect and shower was great pressure. No complaints at all. I would definitely stay again.
Nice hotel close to the beach
Was pleased with the general service from the hotel staff. The food was delicious and varied. However, I was disappointed in house keeping. The mosquitos that had been killed previous to our stay were still on the surfaces. The staff need to pay attention to detail. The spa at the Tangerine Hotel was far too expensive. I paid for a manicure, which was by far inferior in product from UK salons. The price was as costly as a UK manicure but the service and products used were not good enough. There was a small selection of nail polish, none of which was of a good quality, and only one coat of colour was applied. I did not recommend the manicure to any of the other quests who asked. The hotel needs to revise all the prices for the massages etc, Quests were going outside the hotel as the prices were too high.
Average Hotel, quite tired unusable beach
I had mixed feelings about this hotel. I was expecting a 4 star exotic experience with a beautiful beach and relaxing spa. Instead we got an average, tired hotel with facilities which were in need of updating, a horrendous spa and an unusable beach. The reception staff were appalling but the restaurant staff were excellent. Reception - a beautiful reception and great first impressions however the reception staff were rude. We had to complain every day about being woken at 6am to drilling and banging and only on the last day did they offer to do anything about it! The cashier was also very rude, constantly making fun of my height! (I'm 5ft 9in - so not a giant). Pool area - broken sun beds, ripped and faded towels and subbed cushions, old fashioned concrete slabs around the pool and a shabby pool bar. In much need of updating. Definitely not what I would call 4 star. The pool staff were very attentive and despite the tardiness, we still had a relaxing time by the pool each day. Beach - the pool area is right next to the beach and as such I expected sun loungers on the beach also. This is not the case. A fence separates the beach and hotel grounds and the local looky looky men hang around the fence calling out to you to view their goods. It was really intimidating and as such we only ventured on to the beach once. The spa - absolutely appalling! Don't even go there!
Stay was brilliant. Staff handling room service and table waiters need to be further trained of being refined.
Nice hotel that would recommend
A very enjoyable stay where the staff were very friendly. This is a nice hotel but the only downside was the poor beach which in august meant essentially one could not go onto it. The hotel is near enough places to go on day trips to places like UDAWALAWE and GALLE. Buffet food was superb.
An Excellent Beach Resort
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Palm Beach Hotel this Summer. The room was elegantly set up accommodating our needs, and the cleaning staff was very professional regularly tidying the room. The breakfast choices were fantastic as we had the opportunity to pick and choose healthy options. Dinner options were fantastic while allowing us to entertain our family members on several occasions. The staff was incredibly professional, and special thanks should extend to the Travel Manager, who had arranged transportation duly on time during our stay and also helped us arrange a vehicle to use throughout the trip. Given our positive experience with Royal Plam, we are looking forward to many future vacations at this resort. As well, we highly recommend this resort to have a memorable vacation to all.
A fabulously relaxing getaway
Had an amazing stay at Royal Palms for a long weekend. We were literally only interested in relaxing by the pool and that is exactly what we did. Staff are incredibly friendly and resort is well maintained.
Good place to vacation close to Colombo
I've stayed here many times before and it's one of my favorites for a good value stay near Colombo. Love the pool bar. Food choices/quality were not great this time, possibly due to low occupancy, but the staff was very accommodating.
Elegant charmingly landscaped hotel by the beach.
Hard working, helpful, charming staff made our stay very pleasant. The restaurant buffet food, even on special nights, did not vary very much. There was a good selection for breakfast particularly the breads and pastries. it would have been even better if there had been some bacon; We do understand that its absence may have been cultural. The pool was excellent, clean and well looked after. Security was unobtrusive but very effective. The room was spacious and well furnished. the bathroom was also spacious clean and well equipped
Nice hotel close to the beach
My friend and I spent a week in Sri Lanka and stayed at the Royal Palms in Kalutara. It was a fantastic and relaxing hotel that I would recommend to anyone!
Awful place
The hotel itself is fine however the rooms were horrific. Old, shabby and full of damp and mildew. I saw 4 rooms before I was able to sleep in one for one night and left....with hives all over my right leg. Don't stay here if you suffer allergies or have very small children. Disgusting and management could not have cared less!
Poor Service
From the arrival late in the even that did not have a room ready for this reservation, to the lack of towels for the pool, to the late opening of breakfast, and the constant questioning of when we would be leaving the hotel, the customer service was non-existent. Even at check out, we had to wait for 10 minutes because the one guy in the entire hotel that had access to the cash was at the bank. This caused us to nearly miss our flight in Colombo. The restaurant/bar had a nice set up, but it took 10-15 minutes to get a drink and order food. We were better off walking to the bar to order. I never comment on good or bad service/accommodations because I don't want to be "that guy", but this time I was so irritated, I felt I needed to write something to temper people's expectations. I hope the construction of the hotel and the service of the hotel is ready for high season...
Great Stay at this hotel!
This is a fantastic place to go for rest and relaxation! The pool and grounds are the best I have been to. The beach is nice but not for swimming. they have good entertainment in the evenings and the food is fabulous! There is not much in the area but if you want great R and R, you cannot go wrong here! we loved our time there!

Relaxing under shades of palms !
royal Palm beach hotel is a nice and much beyond our expectation of a Sri Lanka based resort. The staff treat the customers very friendly. The location doesn't impress at all, practically out of hotel as far as we checked , nothing of interest , nor clubbing ,etc.., whilst inside the hotel there are three restuarants which i strongly recommend the Asian one and its sushi. If u want to lean by the pool or the ocean and get sun bath and enjoying DO NOTHING time , Royal Palm beach hotel is a right place
Very helpful staff with a nice beach nearby. A lot of salesmen following you on the beach though.
L'hotel est très confortable mais un peu vieillissant (notamment la salle de bain: baignoire abimée, robinetterie defectueuse).

Great place, would say 4* not quite 5*
We stayed here on our honeymoon, and was expecting a little more hospitality to be honest couldn't even get a free drink out of them 😅. They do hound you a little in the mornings for room service so don't expect a lay in at this place! The food was really good, bar slightly over priced so all inclusive would be worth it if you intend to spend most of your time at the hotel. We tended to eat out everyday and if you want real Sri lankan food with a smile go to Kamals cafe 2mins walk out of the hotel over the train track. Really nice man and great chef. You can get a feast for less than £4 normally from him! The breakfast was extensive with loads to choose from! The pool was clean and very big, becareful on the beach as you will get harassed from the locals as they try to steal business from the hotel guests. Just say not interested and walk away asap. Also we had to ask for our welcome drink on the last day of our stay, and they even tried to charge us 900rs but then sorted it out for free.Overall 4 out 5 from us.
