Pros; -Low affordable price. -Easy check in/check out. -Front desk clerk pleasant. -Free parking on ground level. -Cleaning staff are amazing and nice. -Restrooms are updated. -Room heater and A/C work great. -Round Table Pizza/Burger King/Peet's coffee is nearby/walking distance. -Walking distance to SF City Hall. A must see on a weekday! You can walk right in and self tour all 4 floors. Cons; -Elevator doesn't work. -Ice machine only on ground level. -Not a secured parking. -Homeless people wonder onto parking lot and yell or make noises throughout the nights and are not addressed by staff. -Homeless people standing/sleeping on sidewalk outside hotel. -Dirty floors outside hotel room and hotel stairwell. -Room pillows are worn down so take your own pillows and blankets for comfort. -Not too many food options or nice sight seeing things nearby othe than mentioned above. -Be sure to lysol the room and wipe down walls/chairs/knobs etc. -Look out the windows and you'll see Homeless out front and along the sidewalk.
This was possibly the worst lodging experience I’ve ever had. The room was dirty and in desperate need of repair. I found black curly hairs in the bed, the room smelled terrible, and the staff was unfriendly. If you need a place to stay and this is all that's available, please be aware that this hotel is located in one of the most dangerous areas in San Francisco. DO NOT GO OUT AFTER DARK. You couldn't pay me to stay here again.
Noisy a group of people early Saturday moring. The elevator is still out service going on six months now.
Really could have used the elevator for my elderly father but it was broken and no signs of getting fixed. Parking was good though.
Front desk carried bags to room very friendly
Goodness
The elevator is still out of service.
Elevator was not working.
Dirty and unhygienic.
The elevator is still out of.service for many months now!
It was okay. Comfortable bed.
Not Recommended
Rude front desk staff. Acted like they didn’t want to be there.
Don't Rent Here!
The hotel denied to provided room event thought I arrived between 7:30pm-8:30pm and hasd paid for the room. They said I had been blacklisted for some reason and denied to provide a refund. They said I had to contact hotels.com for a refund. I've contacted Hotels.com , was placed on hold for an unreasonable amount of time and not provided a refund.
The guys who checked me in were mean and horrible. The only nice person was the janitor/ room cleaner. She was nice
The hotel employees were very nice.
I enjoyed my stay.
Check-in was clunky and elevator was out of order
Clean and simple.
Good, Aging Option in Central SF
Great option in the center of SF, though a bit removed from the BART, dated facilities, sketchy European style elevator, and few (but good) restaurants within a couple blocks. Muni options seemed less available. Easy walk down the street (downhill) to the Powell Street BART in one direction, into Japantown in the opposite direction, 10-15 minutes down a hill into Hayes Valley (great restaurants and nightlife).
OK hotel let down by its location in "rough" area
Hotel is OK. Bathroom is clean and recently updated. Rest of room was in need of freshing up but OK for a few nights sleep. Hotel has about 20 parking spots inside which was very convenient. Whilst hotel was fine and conveniently located in SF for public transport, it's let down by being in one of the rough area of SF with plenty of homeless people camping in local streets. Whilst it's never felt truly unsafe, it's definitely not a great place for walking with a family. Quite a lot of shouting could be heard from room at night. But as a base to go to the more touristy places of SF using public transport, it's fine and was good value.
Honestly this is fine hotel to stay at for like a concert or any events! I didn’t have any complaints about the room and the employees. Although there are homeless people in the area it’s not bad and never once felt unsafe!
Black mold hole in the wall
Black mold in bathroom. hotel very run down. Phone did not work. Room key never seemed to work had to get replacements every time I left. I do not recommend this place
It was just what we need to sleep, get ready and eat. It doesn't have the extra amenities (pool, laundry, etc) but we didn't need it. Our room had a nice table and chairs where we enjoyed our dinner from a local pizza place.
The property was clean , quiet and nice
Little dirty, but cheap and right outside the tenderloin. Parking limited, but if you get a spot makes the stay worth it
A easy place to crash out after a concert in SF
Great Bargain for S.F.
Neglected stars and elevator, but clean, well appointed room. Good AC. Up-to-date bathroom, comtable beds. And this is the only hotel I've ever been in that has two toilet paper dispensers with different styles of tissues. Excellent location to government and performing arts venues. Professional and friendly front desk
Great budget stay. It’s comfortable, it’s fine for a night or two. Staff is friendly
If you are looking for 5 star this isnt it. Everything is utilitarian, the rooms are clean for the location and price and free parking. Id stay again for a short term. Where else can you get a room with free parking in SF for the price?
Clean and Affordable
The area is safe. Public transportation to the major tourist attractions like Fisherman's Wharf, the Zoo, The Academy of Sciences, and the theatre district is good. Staff was helpful.
Best deal in central location
Clean and convenienltly located with free parking at a good price!
It reasonable for what i paying for.
Place was very dirty stains everywhere bugs crawling around the room stains and drips on the walls place was not cleaned very well and is very outdated doesn't feel safe we're not stay again left early didn't stay for my whole booking
Easy
Clean, affordable and nice staff.
Good Location, Quite, & Clean

Clean, quiet & simple.
Easy set up to be able to work in SF.
Very loud guests in some rooms, lots of pounding on the walls and when we asked the hotel to do something about it, they did nothing. Impossible to sleep with the noise in the middle of the night. Asked for a refund since they did not do anything about it and they blacklisted us stating we tried to scam them. Not recommended
Was good staying in this hotel. Customer service all fast.
Happy
Clean, large room with nice employees.
I paid online and they made me pay an extra 100 for a deposit that was stated to have already been paid in my itinerary. Unfortunately I had no other choice. As well as when we woke up at least 30 mins before 11 am I had a housekeeper walk straight in on my Boyfriend and I while we were changing. I am highly disappointed and would recommend finding another hotel!
I think the staff was good 👍. Clean bathroom 🚽.. I happy for that.
My experience at Rodeway Inn was terrible! Too many to list but here are a few: person working check-in was rude, and no help at all. The website said we have ice… no ice. We serve breakfast…no breakfast. The motel is over an open air garage that is open 24 hrs a day. This caused a lot of noise, people screaming, loud cars. Definitely not child friendly or adult friendly.
I was noisy in moring. It made hard to sleep.
Best bet for the money
My experience was okay
limited parking space.
At the first moment, the hotel rather reminds of a bad movie. But let's start from the beginning. The rooms are spacious, clean and offer a lot of space. The bathroom is very modern and the showers are huge. The walls and doors, on the other hand, are so thin that you can hear every little word from the adjacent rooms. The hallway is very outdated. The room card must be renewed every day at the registration desk, which does not surprise me. There are many homeless people around the hotel and everywhere in the area people are walking around waiting for their next victim. The staff of the hotel is not the friendliest and are obviously not enthusiastic when they have to do something. We will definitely choose a different hotel on our next trip.
WATCHOUT FOR DEPOSIT MISREPRESENTATION
We didn’t get a stay because Hotels.com didn’t have ANY kind of deposit posted for that hotel so imagine my disappointment when I don’t have an extra $150 to stay. Luckily the girl at the desk did release my funds back on my booking, however I was NOT given the refund for 7-10days and ended up having to sleep in my car with no heater in 35 degree wheather … I will def be thinking about that next time I book
Didn't like rude worker
Good enough to stay and to have free parking for such a price.
5 nights in SF.
Clean, easy, affordable & staff helpful. It’s not a great neighborhood but I had no problems. Nice renovation in the bathroom. The mattress could be upgraded. I will come back.
The room reeked of smoke and the smoke detectors were removed. We left early
Clean and inexpensive
My wife and I had tickets to the theater, and we did not want to drive home afterward. The hotel is not anything to write home about, but it was clean, and the parking was free. It is a short walk to Civic Center and within walking distance of the Golden Gate Theater. Walking the Tenderon is an acquired taste, and I recommend Uber for the return journey. The bottom line, considering the cost of parking, staying at the Rodeway is a real deal, and one gets to play tourist in the morning.
This hotel is well located. Close to the civic center and transportation to move around. Clean , roomy, and renovated. The common area is outdated but clean. We would stay here again.
I should've gone w my instincts and cancelled the room when I saw this place. Known place for drugs/other solicitation (found out after). Walls are thin and you can here footsteps let alone every other sound everywhere. Staff/someone the staff knows broke into my room and stole my newly open tequila bottle/mountain dew (but not my Thai tea packets? Racist ) while I was out. Either the Mexican/Indian dude when I got there after going out or the Mexican lady who checked me in. Either way, y'all suck. Slept in the closet bc I couldn't trust sleeping on the bed. Reminded me of when I used to live on Seminary St. At least it smelled like bleach and seemed clean when I got there (hopefully). It'd be better/safer to sleep at a 24/7 club than here lol.
In the sketchiest part of San Francisco. Garbage truck came at 5am and it sounded like the world was ending since the entire hotel echoes noise horribly. Homeless person was screaming until 10pm. Did not feel safe leaving the room. Only nice part was the bathroom that did not fit the rest of the hotel. Highly recommend spending a little extra money to stay somewhere else so you can actually sleep.
Very unsafe place alot of drugies and junkies around not recommended
The bed needs moré newer sheets without stains we have to change rooms because if that matter
I had a nice room. The hotel is in a central location.
The stay was sufficient. We stayed with our two children aged 7&9. There was not much space but it was ok for the price. I would not advise the area with younger children
Room was very Roomy. No carpet which I like. 2 windows.
Only chose this spot for Free Parking and close proximity to SF Ballet School for my daughter before checked into the dorm. We stayed in #305, faucet leaked, dirty floor, musty smell (had to by Fabreze to cover the smell). I truly regret choosing this spot. Will pay a bit more and stay at a better hotel. Also, the price was lower than booked price on the day I checked in; I ended up paying more even when booked in advance. I'll never stay here. Paid $385 for two nights of bad experience. But only positive is that cleaning lady was kind and friendly.
Not located in an area where one would feel safe walking to find a restaurant. Room was dated but clean and good enough for a one night's stay, but no longer.
We didn’t stay 5 minutes in the room. The walls near the bed was not cleaned. It looked like a snot wall. The bed sheets torn with hair. The other bed had stain bed cover. The beds were like pull out sofa beds with spring bed frame. Each queen bed had two thin pillows in it. Staff a nice to process my refund.
It just sucked. The whole experience. Wouldnt stay there ever again.
Don't let the sketchy exterior fool you; the rooms are all remodeled and quite nice.
It was clean and I felt safe. It was noisy, spartan, needed some cosmetic repairs, there was no place nearby I felt ok about eating in and no grocery stores nearby. The staff was kind but not very friendly
This hotel wirked for us due to Withing walking distance to many good restaurantsand parking Inside the property
Decently safe inside the motel since you need a key to enter the stair case that goes to the rooms. Surrounding area is pretty sketchy, but fine in daylight. Not a lot of stuff to do in the immediate vicinity, but it is super close to the Civic Center. Pretty solid for the price
The elevator is aged and very slow. The lady at the front desk was friendly and very helpful. My room was clean, the bed comfortable, and all the necessary amenities. I must say that I really liked the shower. I recommend this motel for budget travelers to San Francisco
Impressed with wood floors instead of carpet. Parking a plus.
Would highly recommend!
Really friendly hotel owners and house cleaning. Centrally located, halls are locked so only guests are walking by.
Bored
The rooms are adequately appointed; but there were several other guests that were apparently high, partying loudly - at all hours - throwing things down the stairs. I'm surprised that the hotel didn't ask them to leave. Its unfortunately, a very grubby area of the city.
The property was located in a terrible location and I didn’t feel safe being there or walking around that neighbour hood. The room smelled like cigarettes and there were cigarette burns on the curtains as well.
Would not stay here, got woken up at 7am with a giant boombox outside my door. They also took my deposit for no reason at all. Would not recommend at all
Unless your Desperate for shelter in SF save your money. Paper thin building, can literally hear everything and we stayed on the 3rd floor. Curtains were hanging off, and had some nasty white substance on them. Door had a 1/2 inch opening on bottom with an excellent draft. No parking as it’s 1st come so if your not the first 8 people then park on the street somewhere but prepare to walk and don’t forget DONT LEAVE ANYTHING IN YOUR CAR! First thing the clerk told me. It was fun trying to sleep wondering if my car windows would be intact the next morning.
Hell neighborhood
Terrible, scary and loud neighborhood. When arriving people where fighting in the parking be careful of who you letting entering the property. The rooms are very noisy and you hear the street and the homeless screaming all night 😳 Otherwise the room itself was clean and newly renovated. We left our car in the parking garage but I was scared the whole trip that something gonna happen to it. The hotel is very central and cheap perfect for visiting San Francisco on a budget if you don't care of sleeping little.
Keys needed to be redone, homeless around were very loud, rooms messy
If you want to be woken up at all hours of the night, then this is your hotel.
Not clean, very noisy, horrible location.
The elevator is full of graffiti and could use a fresh coat of paint. Their electronic key system either needs to be fixed, or they need to use newer key cards. Very inconvenient!
Bed sheets were dirty and had pillows had hair on them!??? The mattress should be thrown out- you can feel the springs and they are also noisy. Gross place.
This hotel is under renovations and it’s dirty in the hallways. Rooms were clean however there was a weird smell. No lobby, pool or convenience areas. It looks more like a motel than a hotel
This place is run down. Towels have changed to off-white color. We were afraid to use them. We stayed 4 nights, they didn't replace coffee cups. Our room was at the end, people were yelling all night
The room was clean on a minumum level. There was no shower curtain at all. The motor of the fridge in the room made a constant sound which was not easy to ignore when attempting to sleep.
I didn't. The stay was postponed .I THOUGHT a refund was to come of this.
Ultra Shabby
Ugly, dismal, depressing room in a sketchy part of town. All check in/ out business is handled from the outside through a dingy plexiglass teller’s window. Despite the fact you’re not allowed in the office, the pungent aroma of curry finds its way to your nostrils and lives there for hours. Graffiti adorns the walls of the elevator despite its being locked to public access from the street. Vending and ice machines haven’t worked in years. Atrocious bedspreads, awful furniture. No amenities. Towels made of sandpaper.. Standing in stark contrast is the bathroom, which appears to be relatively newly renovated. Let’s hope they don’t stop there. If ultra shabby doesn’t bother you and you’re willing to pay about $100 a night plus a $150 “security deposit” for it, then have at it. Otherwise, use only as a last resort.
This place was good for a fast late night stay but if it would have been for more than 1 night I highly do not recommend, it was unsanitary with stains on the walls, curtains, sheets, towels and restroom area. There was also cigarettes burns on the night stand in our non smoking room. The door had a big gap that let cold air in it the whole night. Again, great for a fast cheap stay but would not pay full price for a night.
The rooms were nice. Remodeled but the outside needs to be redone
Rodeway Inn
Newly remodeled bathroom was nice. Beds looked old but we're actually quite comfortable. Mini fridge and microwave in room. Only one car was able to park in parking lot of hotel despite there being plenty of available room and us asking to pay but we were denied. I stepped on a used condom getting out of my car in the parking lot. I did not see any elevator, staircase was very narrow with short steps so carrying luggage up and down was to be proceeded with caution. There was a lot of hair in our bathroom at check in at several locations but otherwise seemed clean. The front office staff at check in was very unfriendly but the morning front office staff at checkout was very nice.
I was greeted by friendly lady in front ...but I was interrupted by an old grumpy man yelling about his Tv not working ...we finally check in and went up stairs get ready for bed but couldn’t sleep a wink because all the noise around the property
You get what you pay for
It was ok . Room had been redone.. Not the best part of town. This is a rent by the month and some of the people living there were not very trustworthy looking. Loud noises all night and doors slamming. People in office wouldn’t let you in, they make you check in and standing outside. Probably won’t stay there again.
Nasty smelly, full of crack heads place
That's the worst experience i ever had, the hotel has terrible front desk service, they have terrible smelly cigarette rooms and is full of crack heads, i don't recommend this hotel at all think twice before you book on here
There were holes in the wall and door, outlets did not work, bed sheet had holes in it. The room smelled like cigarettes and the tub was all rusted. I immediately booked a new hotel room.
Cool
Place is nice and quite parking is rather tight and limited space . Just concerned about the deposit policy that they put on my acct. For the room. As all I am seeing is a charge but no credit. Back , room was clean and inaccurate. When I left .
Staying in the bay, this place has free parking on site, which is amazing. Left the car there and it was safe.
Bad odor
The room had a bad odor. And I didn't want to stay . The receptionist was very rude and told me not come back and still kept my security deposit.

No frills basic + parking
All I wanted was a clean bed, a TV, a little frig, some natural light and a well-functioning heating system --inexpensively.. They had exactly what I was seeking plus free parking -- which is a big thing in San Francisco. The common areas were very worn looking. The bathroom was recently renovated looking. I requested extra pillows at the check-in desk (there is no lobby) for better reading in bed, to which the young woman clerk responded "I don't know if we have extra pillows", but they were brought to my room while I was out. I stayed here while a friend had surgery and was recuperating at CPMC on Geary and Van Ness. It was convenient and much more affordable than the $12 per hour parking charged by the hospital. Note: it is on Eddy on the western side of Van Ness
