Amazing service! They allowed us to store our luggage for 4 days when we went to the Galapagos - made that trip so much easier! Great breakfast, menu service for other meals. Bar mixes great drinks. Stay was perfect!!
The property was great, super friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were excellent and good value.
The hotel itself was fairly nice for the location with very comfortable beds, TV, refrigerators and bottles of water. It was a little dated but comfortable. Staff was helpful at check in and with a late checkout. Breakfast was nice and dinner restaurant decent but under staffed when we were there. The neighborhood is a little noisy on certain nights.
Nice hotel near Plaza Foch. Restaurant had a nice variety of Ecuadorian plates and seafood especially! Wife and I loved the huge king bed, city views, and hot shower. Only thing I would give 4 stars is the breakfast buffet but compared to other places it’s still quite yummy!
Wonderful service!
Great hotel in a good location for walking around. Emelio, & Sebastian on the front desk couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. They got us a driver called Javier who was a god send. He drove us on trips and twice to the airport. Last but not least the fabulous Fernando in the bar. A true friend. Made our stay very pleasurable! We got robbed unfortunately on the street and they all went out of there way to help. Definitely will stay again on my return.
Good place!
Great value! Lovely room with king size bed, nice linens and awesome view with large windows. Breakfast buffet is fine and dinners are great traditional dishes. I’ll be back.
The cleaning and the people working all around was very nice happy and professional.
Everything was awesome. Location, foodservice, in the restaurant excellente,High recommend.,Tku for your service.
What I like of the hotel Amazona was the room, good view, good beds, nice bathroom,
Excellent room, king bed, Excellent large shower, very clean, good service.
Breakfast was not which was offered. I was especting at least an extended menu.
ice high rise views
Large modern room with a great view of Quito. Great breakfast.
Highlights to this property: the city view, location close to main attractions, and spetacular customer service. I will definitely choose this property again!
Terrible room. Broken elevators — they had to take us through the freight. No milk when trying to buy a a basic coffee. Worst hotel I’ve ever been to — definitely don’t recommend to anyone! Reviews and pictures are a lie.
Rooms nice and clean. Friendly staff. Breakfast was a bit lacking in selection but was ok.
Only thing did not like was no internet in my room on the 9th floor. Had to go to lobby for internet. Good breakfast and restaurant. Good location. Nice lobby.
No airconditioning for hot nights. Music from nearby properties cannot be shut out.
Excellent hotel nice view good food 100% guarantee and good price
Good Quito Option
Good location, clean, friendly and helpful staff. Would go back.
The worst hotel I have EVER stayed in anywhere! The staff was rude & argumentative. The night we arrived we were told that the room we booked was not available so they put us in a small room with absolutely no view. When we complained all of a sudden the large room with the view of the city & the mountains suddenly was available. Every day one or both of our key cards did not work & had to be programed when we complained we were told than one one had a problem before. One day we left early in the morning only to return in the afternoon to discover that housekeeping had not made up our room we complained about that & they said they would send up housekeeping later we saw the woman from housekeeping & she said she had too many rooms & ours was the last on the floor so she didn't have time to clean it. Twice we were not able to open the safe box in the room, the first time they sent up a technician the second time was the night before we were leaving early, they refused to have the manager come in & open it so we could get out passports, cash, jewelry etc. I had to make a huge fuss for the manager to come in. AND the day before we left we were sitting in the room when this big rope dropped down in front of the window and suddenly this man lowered down right in front up started just hanging there took out his phone & started taking photos!! They admitted he did it but you couldn't see anything. I want my money returned. It was horrible. They were very nasty don't stay here!!!!!!!
The hotel and staff is very nice, and they help with everything you need, the area is very safe and the restaurant in the hotel is very good the food very tasty and price very reasonable, I recommend this hotel is number 10 thx for all your help
Just need some improvements
Very nice Hotel with a professional and courteous staff. . The property needs some basic upgrades. Specially the bathroom. The restaurant is not so good. But there are many restaurants nearby. I only had one breakfast for $10.00 that included fruits, tea/coffee, bread, etc. The rest of the time I went to a nearby 5 tar hotel where I had an excellent buffet breakfast that even included vitamin drinks made to order for about $23.00.
Good breakfast available until 10 AM. Close to a variety of restaurants
Nice place right where I wanted to be in Quito. Lots of shops close by & La Focha center was only a 5 minute walk away. Many options for eating, but I ate a few times at the hotel & that was good, with great service.
Good location and friendly personnel. Fantastic breakfast for starting the day.
I stayed at the Rio Amazonas for six nights. The front desk staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. The building, rooms, and furniture seemed somewhat old but well-maintained. My room was clean and bed was comfortable. Wifi was fast and allowed for streaming. Great location that was close to several main bus stops, close to many bars and restaurants, and even close to the pick-up point for my day drips. However it could be very loud, sometimes until 2 or 3 am on a weeknight, so if you are sensitive to noise I recommend ear plugs. I did not try the bar/restaurant in the hotel.
Hotel is well located.
It could be a 4 star hotel or better, If they modernize their entrance furniture. They need to add a small fridge 2 the rooms. It was annoyed going 2 the restaurant every day to request a glass of ice, 2 keep my child insulin cold. The hotel staff was very professional and helpful
Great Stay at the Rio Amazonas Hotel
Our stay was short, but it was great! This was my first stay at an Ecuadorian Hotel, so my American standards were being tested. The only thing the room lacked was an A/C control. The hotel did regulate that so we were comfortable though. The food at the hotel restaurant was terrific! I don't have a sophisticated palate, so I was a little apprehensive. I was very pleased with my meal, I ordered Penir de Polvo (Turkey) and it was fantastic. We ordered drinks, they used plenty of alcohol and desserts to top off. An appetizer, 4 drinks, two main courses and desserts for two for $72. Would definitely stay here again. The reception desk spoke pretty good english, that wasn't 100% necessary but it was a nice touch :)
Phenomenal Staff
The staff is phenomenal. I got really sick during my stay and they called a doctor to my room at no cost. They checked on me every other hour to make sure I didn’t need anything. Rooms are renovated, clean, bright. Close to main attractions and a lot of great restaurants.
Hotel Rio Amazanas
Higly recommend this hotel
Highly recommended
Centrally located to barbershops, restaurants, grocery stores, transportation And the staff super accommodating with smiles.
Excellent hotel
The rooms was clean with the supportive staff. The breakfast was superb and the receptionist attention was good too.
Quito
Spent 2 evenings in this lovely city. Hotel was centrally located and very comfortable. Rooms are modern decor and impeccably clean. We had an 11th corner room with a great view of the city. You are in the heart of a nightclub area so not always very quiet but part of the character. 24 hour cafe adjoins the hotel with good food.
Contemporary elegance: accessable with great views
Very enjoyable stays: very accommodating, professional staff, good food, spectacular views, convenient to most highlights architecturally, historically, shopping&eating experiences.
The Wi-Fi works well only at reception
The Wi-Fi works well only at reception
Excellent hotel in the heart of La Mariscal
Rio Amazonas was an excellent hotel. The staff was friendly, responsive and always steps ahead as far as hospitality and making my stay comfortable and perfect. It was very clean, the restaurant was delicious, and it was central in location, minutes away from major attractions. The view from my room was breathtaking! Definitely recommend this place.
Great hotel, amazing breakfast!
Our only complaint is the noise from the street BUT it is better than the other hotel we stayed at! The view from our room, both times we stayed, was spectacular. On our 2nd stay at the hotel, we had a room with a view of Cotopaxi. Breathtaking. The breakfast there is AMAZING. Eggs as you wish and a full and complete buffet. They also serve breakfast as of 5am, which was great when we had to leave in the early morning for our activities. The location is central, but do bring ear plugs. We slept well but the noise could be a distraction to some. However, I must say that we stayed in another hotel not even 2 blocks away and Rio Amazonas was MUCH quieter in comparison! Love the fresh flowers in the lobby. Overall a very nice home away from home. I would stay there again!
Friendly staff, great rooms, very clean, good breakfast
Good hotel for price. 24 hour food next door is plus, but is pricey for drinks.
Great Location, Luxurious yet affordable hotel.
It was amazing.
Rooms not like the pictures, Service amazing!!
The service here was absolutely amazing. Everyone here was very helpful, accommodating, and the price for dry cleaning services was very affordable for the travelling professional. However, I was disappointed on how outdated my room was. The pictures are completely different than the reality. Maybe it's only rooms on the top floor that are as nice as the rooms in the pictures? My room was very outdated all around. I wish I had stayed in the room in the pictures, not one from the 90's. However, the service was excellent and worth noting.
Great selection of food for the free breakfast. The location was near great restaurants, walking distance.
Nice hotel
Beeing downtown it is very loud at night. Difficult to fall asleep. Personal very polite and exellent service.
Good
Good, but breakfast could be better... Nice but old... safe and central..
Helpful and friendly staff
The staff were very very helpful and friendly!
Budget option in the heart of Quito
In the heart of the nightlife district, if you want to have a good night of sleep this is not the place. This place is more for fun. The location is unbeatable for both fun and biz. The windows though, are not completely isolated and you can hear people having fun and partying in the streets from the 6th floor... Not a bad place, just not recommended without earplugs. The breakfast was very good, with local food mainly but thinking on any palate. The restaurant has a very nice decor. The staff is friendly, check in was a breeze.
Close to everything!
I loved my stay here. It is a nice hotel, close to shops, entertainment and dining! I had a great view of the Cotopaxi volcano.
Clean, Comfortable and Reasonably Priced
Hotel Rio Amazonas is a mid-sized, modern hotel that is a 40 minute walk to the old town. The hotel is relatively new, however, after staying there a couple days, we realized that there was not a thermostat or any vents in the room. That said, the temperatures in Quito are very moderate, and may be the only city in the world where buildings do not need central heat or a/c. We spent six nights at Rio Amazonas and did not miss central heat or a/c, as the window could be opened, as needed. All in all, we would stay there again as the room was modern and very clean with great wifi service.
Over the top
Arrived middle of the night, lost luggage, terrible rental car. Hotel staff went way above and beyond in helping me address every issue in righting my ship to start two week stayou (cell phone, medical, auto, local information, instant personal requeststatement addressed). Beautiful view of city from room, walking distance to any outside needs. Have booked for last night when I return to Quito for flight home
Nice, clean, friendly, and good location
Since we arrived, the staff was friendly. We were close to nice area full of local restaurants and a few night clubs. It was a good experience
Overall Good Stay
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was great, and they will make eggs to order as well. The room was pretty small, with the King-sized bed taking up most of the area. There were large windows that open to a city view. The bathroom was a decent size with a walk-in shower. It was very clean and well lit with toiletries including q-tips (which is always nice!). This hotel is walking distance to the main square with many restaurants and good nightlife, but also far enough away that it is not too noisy. We felt very safe walking in the area. It was very busy on a Friday evening with lots of people out and about.
Nice hotel in fun part of Quito
I have stayed here several times and will again next time I am in Quito. Lots of tour groups and business travelers stay here.
Great value for a short stay in central Quito
The highs: great bedding, fast wifi, hearty breakfast buffet and friendly staff. The lows: small room, bare bulbs in vanity, old shower head. Short walk to Foch plaza, safe in daytime. Take a taxi at night.
Lovely hotel with attentive staff. No air conditioning but it wasn't needed this time of year. Breakfast buffet was superb, with the basics plus different Ecuadorean food changed each day.
Nice hotel to stay while visite Quito
I have stayed in the hotel Rio Amazonas few nights.Location is ok but to get until historic center just need take a taxi.Staff is very friendly and helpful .The breakfast was with a variety food .Internet connection was good. The room was comfortable ,just only observation I think will be good to have air conditioner in the room.
Good Hotel and good location
The restaurant have delicious food, every personnel very helpful .
The facility is a bit rundown The smell in the corridors is offensive Overall average experience Wouldn't go back or recommend to anyone Also got charged $5.00 USD For a chocolate bar????
Great view of Quito!
Nice hotel with great view of the city. Safe location near parks and a good selection of restaurants. The breakfast included was quite nice.
Prepare for Surprises
I chose this hotel because I love the location on the edge of the Foch Plaza area. It is centrally located to so many excellent spots if you want to come to Quito for business or pleasure. That said, this visit was a comedy of errors, unlike anything I have experienced in my 40+ years as a businessperson : first the receptionist showed no evidence of my having paid in full in advance through Hotels.com -- none; next, when I went to my hotel room, the bed was unmade and there were other people's stuff there. This meant that that I was given the digital key to somebody else's room. Now, there's a first . . . Then when I DID get a room that wasn't occupied by somebody else, I find out (like another review notes) that there is only one accessible electrical outlet. No problem. I rested on the floor while I answered my business email. I went to use the in-room hotel safe, and although I have used these hundreds of times before, I couldn't get this one to work. The next morning, I went to breakfast to find a buffet that is actually quite good, except that because I didn't get there early (call it my fault), so there wasn't much to eat. Then upon check-out, I find out that the handful of snacks I had came to $26, which was disproportionate to what I took. (So know the cost of these snacks before you "partake.") I still think it's a great place. I DO, however, think that you should prepare for some unexpected surprises when you do.
perfect service
Only 1 night staff were perfect and would definitely stay again
Need more outlets
The Hotel doesn't have enough outlets in the room.
Convenient and comfortable
My boyfriend and I were traveling for pleasure and this was our last stop before returning back to the United States. It is beautiful but many of the staff do not speak English. I do. However, my boyfriend does not. He ordered a bottle of wine for room service and it took a few hours because the staff could not understand the room number when he said it. Also, he asked for a wake up call and even though the staff member repeated it back to him in English, we never received a wake up call. But you don't want to miss out on this beautiful hotel. So, make sure you have a translation book with you so that this does not happen to you. And make sure you have another alarm clock. The view was fantastic! The room was very comfortable. The restaurants within the hotel were fantastic as well. It was very convenient to everyplace. I actually enjoyed shopping which I usually don't!
Perfect business trip
The hotel is good for business trip, good location and the staff is very kind and wifi is better than before.
Convenient location.
The Hotel is conveniently located. It is close to Foch Place with its many Restaurants and Bars. There are convenient stores, Banks etc..close to the Hotel. The bus stop for the tourist Bus is a short walking distance from the Hotel. The Breakfast was good, the Hotel staff friendly. There is one drawback to the Hotel- all the rooms do not have refrigerators. I had a room reservation with refrigerator. I was given a room without a refrigerator. I had to show them the reservation and was told that I had to wait two hours ( in the room) for the room to be ready and was then shown another room without a refrigerator. I had to wait again for the room with a refrigerator to be ready.I finally was able to move into my room after 6.00pm.Time was wasted due to this.Apart from this,I had a comfortable stay.
Front desk clerk was rude his name was Carlos.
I was happy until I was being charged for an extra person only because I had a visitor for 1 hr. The front desk clerk was very rude his name was Carlos.
Very nice staff
Everybody was really helpful and nice. They call us early in the morning to wake us up and got us a ride to the airport.
Nice hotel in downtown
We have a pleasant experience with this hotel. Great location, you can go wherever you want walking or a short ride cab. Maybe I wish a room with fridge, but the restaurant there has excellent buffet breakfast and typical food.
Great Quality Customer Care
The Hotel staff was fantastic, the room was quite spacious and comfortable, the service from all the staff was exceptional. This has been one of my best experience in all my travels. Fantastic accommodation for Business and Leisure. Anyone visiting Quito should stay at this Hotel at least once to experience the difference quality makes.
Helpful Staff but Noisy Streets
Staff was very helpful. The prior reviews about the noise was useful. I changed my room from a front of the hotel room to a rear of the hotel room to reduce noise.
Good location
Terrible showers. Ruins the whole rating. The hotel has a very OLD water pipeline system. Taking a shower its an terrible experience
Great location
Rooms smell a little. They try to mask it with a fragrance but that wears off after a couple hours. For the price and location worth it.
Good hotel at central area
Nice hotel, very good breakfast! I would include a gym in house for it to be optimal
It was OK. Bathroom could be remodeled for next time. Too many old parts.
The best hotel in Quto for business time.
Every service we enjoyed was unique and excellent. People in the hotel are always friendly, attentive and very professional. The rooms offer a pleasant rest after a day of business. Do not need 5 star to be the best, the Rio Amazonas Hotel is definitely the best hotel for a business stay in Ecuador.
Not worth the high price
outdated - used hotel. From the not properly functioning shoer to the too soft bed - everything kind of old. Not happy !
awesome
Great place to stay. Location is perfect for night life and attractions.
extremely noisey and hot, impossible to sleep.
I stayed at the Rio for a couple nights, I really should've left sooner. The room has no air conditioning and heats up very quickly. The room got so hot that it was hard to sleep. Pillows are pretty uncomfortable. The worst problem though is the noise. The hotel rooms are NOT well insulated. Expect to hear car horns, car alarms all day and night. By far the worst part of the noise are the clubs which play a very very loud strong bass for HOURS on end. Think something like noon to 3am. The clubs are loud with the windows closed. If you open the windows to try to cool down the room it's earsplitting. I would highly recommend that anyone that likes sleep avoid the hotel at all costs.
nice hotel comfortably
only problem noisey at night nightclubs too noisey
Bar Noise on Alley Side
There was a bar just below my room no. 708 which faced the alley, the music came roaring up thre alley walls 12-2 a.m. Ear plugs bearing helped. Management came up and they said they actually had the bar closed but the owner paid 70K USD to re-open. Business center was closed for private meetings many days and printer did not work. Rate is good, food is very good, people mean well, BUT....
Excellent option at a reasonable price.
The staff was more than helpful, the restaurant has excellent service and outstanding food and my room had a beautiful panoramic view of the city. The location is very central as well. My only suggestion would be to have a few more electric outlets installed in the bedroom, the only one I could find was in the bathroom. Apart from this minor issue, I am planning to stay in this hotel in any future visit to Quito.
Stay at Hotel Rio Amazonas
The trip was wonderful, but the accommodations could have been better. To begin, the hotel rooms did not resemble what was shown on the website. The first assigned room didn't even have outlets, unless you were in the bathroom. The only chair in the room is at the desk, so if you want to sit, you will be very uncomfortable. If you are from the States, you are accustomed to having a small coffee pot in your room. Not here. Expect to go to the lobby or to the attached restaurant. Another adjustment was not having air conditioning or even a fan. If you leave your window open at night to catch a breeze, expect to here noises from all the VERY close bars & clubs as the hotel is right in the middle of them in Quito. I cannot speak to all the rooms, but the shower head in ours sprayed everywhere! The ceiling was always completely covered, the floor completely wet - not where you expect the water to go. At least there was a drain in the middle of the floor. The rooms were kept exceptionally clean, but the way they made the beds some days was like you were getting short-sheeted. They tried to use queen sheets on a king bed and had to put them on sideways?!?!??! There was no consistency in whether they would replace the shampoo/conditioner/lotion and water supplied by the hotel. Some days it was there others it was not. Finally, make sure your clothes are ironed in advance. None are provided in the rooms, butr you can always request one.
Vacation
Very good hotel with a reasonable price. They seem to be delayed getting the reservation confirmation from Hotels.com. Actually all the hotels I made reservations with in Ecuador seem to have a problem connecting with hotels.com. Since I was moving around, I ran in to this problem often. So every time I had to call Hotels.com directly and sit there for quite a while, while they called the hotel and re-fax or re-email the confirmation.
Nice place to stay if you want to see the sights.
Close to a stop for the red bus. Close to night life and restaurants. But it was super loud at night. Be prepared for loud music, car alarms, crowd noise etc.
Good location/Noisy & dated.
Great location. I guess that's what you're paying for. Nice and clean and comfortable, but very dated furnishings. The disco nearby kept us up VERY late. We asked for a 5:45 wakeup call. They called at 4:45!
Good hotel in Quito
Hotel was nice, clean, and in central Quito. Staff didn't seem to know much about the area or suggestions on places to eat, visit, etc. We ended up finding a travel agency on our own and took a tour to the Equator line.
Decent place
Not a bad place to stay They should have shuttle service from the airport
The room was fine - there is a lot of noise from the surrounding bars on Fridays and Saturdays
The personnel was estremely helpful, maid service a little inconsiderate, noise level inside the hotel was horrible on Friday and Saturday until way past the proper and acceptable time.
Worth the Stay!
* Quality room with great breakfast buffet. * Very helpful staff. * Only issue were a few light bulbs not working in room lamps. * Free WiFi.
The hotel was nice
The hotel was in the downtown area. It was clean and the staff was very helpful. I would stay there again.
too far away from the airport
more interested in making money than client. too exoensive
Business
It serves it purpose for business trip ..everything is within walking distance...
Clean and helpful staff
The rooms were clean but small. The front desk was helpful. It is a good hotel if you like nightlife because it was located near many bars and restaurants. We were there 2 nights and could hear the karaoke as a mild distraction.
Gets the Job Done
Wasn't an amazing place but was a comfortable spot to sleep. No towels in the room and they didn't respond to bring more when we called. Hot shower and comfortable bed though. Outside rooms are very noisy due to the bars in the area, inside rooms have no view but are very quiet. We just needed a place to stay that was safe after flying in late at night and this got the job done. Breakfast was NOT included, even though it was advertised that way, but was a good breakfast buffet. Please remember that the new airport in Quito is easily 2+ hours from this hotel and area.
Great place, Great People & a Great Value
This is a real find in Quito and a great value. The area can be a bit sketchy at night but there are a number of excellent restaurants close by. Be sure to use the staff to call your cab. They monitor which cab picks you up and which one brings you back which can be a real help. I mention this because the standard procedure when you get a cab is to tell them where you want to go and ask how much it will cost. Our cabbie simply pointed to the meter which every cab is supposed to have but few do. Our previous experience with a metered cab had been excellent so we thought we were set. WRONG! We went to El Panecillo a common viewpoint where you can overlook the city. When we got there he asked if we wanted him to wait because he said cabs don't generally come up there so we asked if there was an additional charge and he said no. We spent about 25 minutes walking around and returned to the cab. We went back to the Hotel only to find the fare was $50.00! YIKES. We paid but when we went into the Hotel we checked at the desk about the fare and they said absolutely not and called the cab company right back. On check out about 30 minutes later they gave us a $27.00 refund in cash and apologized for the problem. Outstanding! We had requested a room on an upper floor which we got. It was room 908 which was away from the street and high enough that traffic noise was not a problem. The room was spotless, linen excellent, and the minibar while expensive was very well stocked. We always got good information from the desk and they were always very polite. Loved this place and will return.
Nice, convenient.
Nice rooms - large for Quito standards. Good location. Business center with computers and printer available 7x24. 7x24 restaurant has a wide menu, though they have some small issues with servicing a large group efficiently. Likewise the front desk had trouble with 30 of us arriving at once - most of us would have preferred to hold onto our bags and take them to the room, but the bell hops pretty well ripped the bags out of our hands. The desk staff went out of their way to make sure the cab drivers didn't try to mess with us.
Slow, slow, service
The staff very friendly, but slow. Recommendations: 1) Do NOT let them take your luggage to your room for you. You will not see it for an hour or more. Sit on it if you have to. 2) Forget the restaurant, the breakfast if vastly over priced, and service in the evening is often non-existent. I waited over an hour before I gave up on my dinner order.
Nice, affordable place in Quito
24-hour restaurant is nice, a bit old fashioned - only one room key and you're supposed to leave it at the desk as you leave the hotel. No AC (not really needed in Quito) but a small fan would have been welcome. Easy walk to restaurants and Artesenal Market.
