Security checkin is overwhelming.feel like a jail !! Then service is inconsistent. General manager should get out of his office know what guests endure. No lemons or limes in the house. Renovations were not indicated on website. At the end poor choice

Protea Hotel Midrand

Stay was greatbexcept for the water pressure in the shower that was not good. The hot water was luke warm.

My stay was ok, but we had the worst massages woke up with our back sore we had to make arrangements somewhere else and the lady asked for a tip, on our consultation form we wrote that we wanted to relax and all we got the pressure was too much even though we asked for lighter pressure. Regretted even booking for massages. For such an amount of money, we really were not impressed, those ladies who massaged my daughter and I didn't seem to know what they were doing. I then confronted one of the workers there who went to confront her co-workers about our complaints and they offered a complimentary massage after we check out but we were not even interested because our bodies are sore. The hot stones were too hot but she didn't seem to care when I told her

Noise till 2am in the corridors and adjacent rooms

Not a good stay, bed linen gave me a rash, other guests in rooms closeby partied in their rooms and in the corridors till 2am.

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was good and the room had all the necessary essentials. WiFi worked well. Breakfast was good but the restaurant wasn’t that great and a bit slow. My rooms door and window weren’t properly sound insulated so there were some noises that could be heard. Overall a pleasant stay.

Great place

Very nice property, great service, neat anf clean rooms. Breakfast spread, if you are a vegetarian, can be disappointing. Everything else was perfect!

Enjoyed the food!

We were amazed at the fantastic food we consumed at the hotel. Initially we wanted to visit a restaurant in the area but the hotel was obviously convenient. Well, we think we made the right decision. During the afternoon we decided to enjoy a light lunch, fully expecting one of those mediocre servings usually found at hotels. Instead, the panini I had was stunning, while the toasted chicken mayo of my partner was brilliant. This convinced us to sample the fare in the evening. Again, a wise decision. I had the best ribeye in South Africa (and better than anything in the USA!) while my partner's lamb cutlets were succulent. Our room, unfortunately (Room 230) was on a busy street and the road noise could become irritating.

Zimkhitha was a great waiter during breakfast. She has an amazing smile and goes beyond the norm to make sure customers are happy.

The environment is very serene and beautiful. Even though the hotel sign can be seen from the N1 highway, guests don't experience the noise from the highway. Around the hotel are offices and beautiful residential accommodation.

Good for Business Travel

This is a really nice and convenient hotel for business travel. Perfect location between Jhb and Pta and close to high way. However, do try for a room facing away from the main roads as these become very busy and noisy from 5.30am onwards - so sleeping late is not an option.

Good accommodation, strange vegtables

All good, restaurant was a bit strange. I ordered Pork Chops with vegtables and potoatie wedges. Vegies consisted of Onion, Green Pepper Mushroom and Cucumber

Though it was a short stay, it was fine to return some other time.

Service was excellent. Staff at the reception desk were very helpful, friendly, and concerned about little problems. Solution about a little problem was very reasonable.

Was on a business stay very close to my venue

Very great customer service from all staff especially from Andrew as had time to converse with me & made me feel very welcome through out the stay. He is an assert to the hotel. Very good food & bonus for having breakfast pack as I had to leave very early in the mornings during my stay. Than you all will Ben back soon

Comfortable and helpful hotel

Very helpful front desk staff, even have UK power adaptors which is a great help given the uniqueness of SA power sockets. Food at the bar and main restaurant was great, just a little slow. Not the best location if you want to go out for a meal as its just off the main highway and theres nothing in the vicinity. Uber cabs are plentiful in the area.

Ideal - quality and comfortable.

I needed a good quality hotel close to work when I come over from th UK. This is ideal, a walk over the road to the office park - clean and comfortable room with a nice view of the gardens and pool, good restaurants and friendly service. Perfect!

kitchen & customer service needs improvement

More attention to customers required i.e. pickup bags on arrival & departure. Kitchen require to improve food quality.

Horrible service, mediocre food, outdated rooms

The Protea Midrand hotel is one of those hotels that has a beautiful lobby, pool area and bar area, but it stops there. The rooms are spacious and clean, but very dated. And the service at the hotel is horrible, from the bar, to breakfast, to the restaurant to the front desk. Employees at the front desk ignore you as you stand there waiting for service, getting food at the bar is a 2 hour venture and the food is mediocre. This hotel is on the edge of Midrand, so there is nothing that surrounds the hotel in close proximity - unless your business meetings are in the surrounding business parks. The main hotel lobby, patio and pool areas are beautiful, and would be better enjoyed with a higher level of service. I will likely not be staying at this hotel again.

Disgusting service

Room was next to the passage door and every time someone opened or closed it was making a noise which kept us up most of the time. When asked for a blanket I was brought an old light brown blanket which was perling meaning it was old and balls formed on the blanket. We returned it and got another duvet instead. We also stood at reception from 18h45 payment went through at 19th02 but because nothing reflected on your side we had to make another booking which was reversed 2 hours later but I haven't received my money. Not sure if that is a bank error or not. We even left because we were refused check in because you could see payment but the bank statement confirmed and I had produced a confirmation email buy still the managers wouldn't budge. We stood for more than an hour at reception which was so embarrassing and it was cold.We were only allowed to enter once the second booking was make in front of the manager and payment was confirmed because she sawas the card being swiped in front of her. Disappointed

A little dissapointing

Bit of a disappointment for a business focussed hotel. WiFi was unusable and room service took 45mins to deliver food (after saying it would take 20-30 mins). The plus side is the free shuttle service to the Midrand Gautrain Station.

below average service

Had to wait an hour and a half for my room to be ready although I arrived their at 2pm for check-in. Room service was extremely long with no apology. Was promised food within 30 minutes but was served well after an hour.

Good for a night or two for a biz trip

Needed a hotel near my two client meetings. This did the trick. The hotel lobby, bar and outdoor lounge area were a lovely setting and great place for post meeting glass of wine, AM coffee meeting, etc ...nice escape from feel of being in the city. The rooms were average. Clean, but def in need of an upgrade ...but not more so that the gym. Not everyone cares about a hotel gym...but if you are someone who likes to stay fit while on the road and choose your hotels for their gyms... At least they had one which is essential to me ....but definitely in need of upgrade. GREAT restaurant staff... Doreen and Dominic were outstanding. Net-net, i'd stay again for a biz hotel ...but would also peak around at some other ones near by to compare gym and rooms ...but hotel public space will be hard to beat in the Midrand area.

Good hotel

Good hotel. check-in staff friendly.... Rooms are clean and beds are comfy. Looks recently renovated. my only problems was that their Tv seemed to have a "wake up button" activated. it turned itself on every morning @ 8am with blaring sound, thus waking me up. Either than that all was ok, I'd stay there again...
