Beautiful
Hotel was fine. Kimberley made me a little nervous, worried about crime.
Rooms were okay, but service was poor. Housekeeping only cleaned the room once. Didnt sweep the floor or clean the cups glasses. Only left 2 towels, whilst the room was a double room housing 4 people. While dining at the reataurant, the chicken was still raw when served. That after we waited more than an hour for our food, without any indication from the waiters that there will be delays. At check out the staff member had the nerve to acuse me of not paying my restaurant bill, which was not true as I paid the bill after dining even though the kids were served raw chicken. This speaks to the overall poor management of the facility. I will not stay at this establishment again and will not recommend it to anyone. Very disappointed.
The staff were very hospitable and helpful. However, the toilet flush did not work in one room and my daughter got locked in the toilet in the general area for 40 minutes due to a faulty lock.
Best Big Hole location
Lovely hotel in best location in Kimberley - literally next door to the Big Hole, with its own pathway. Staff were very helpful. Room and hotel were tastefully decorated to fit into mining theme.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Protea Hotel Kimberley, situated next to the famous Big Hole in Kimberley, South Africa. The hotel itself was everything I could have hoped for - comfortable and spacious rooms and stunning views of the Big Hole. The restaurant offered a delicious range of meals, while the bar was the perfect place to unwind with a refreshing drink. The hotel's location was the real highlight of the stay. The hotel has direct access to the Big Hole historical area through a small gate The museum, exhibitions, and viewing platform all provided a fascinating insight into the history of the mine. Overall, I would highly recommend the Protea Hotel Kimberley to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient base from which to explore the area's rich cultural heritage.
Excellent
I visit Kimberley regularly now and it’s the only place I can stay because of the staff, services and comfortable rooms, well ventilated
The staff were very kind and friendly, the food was yummy and our rooms were very comfortable. We easily made friends with other guests which made the stay even more enjoyable.
Great for stop-over
Excellent for a family stop-over between Gauteng and the coast. Great hotel, excellent service
Lovely hotel right next to the Big Hole visitor centre. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. Staff are very friendly and there is lovely view from the back garden of the hotel.
very well located right next to the big hole and touristic facilities
The hotel is at a unique place overlooking the Big Hole which I could see from my hotel room.
Property located right at the historic Kimberly Big hole. Good security. Rooms are a bit dated.
Great location, great staff, tiny rooms.
Amazing location overlooking the big hole. Staff are incredible...so friendly, professional and accommodating. Service is great. I was very disappointed in how cramped the rooms are...almost claustrophobic. It's a pity, as everything else was lovely.

…
Great location near The Big Hole. Hotel facilities clean & modern. Pleasant reception. Big disappointment was the restaurant with less than average food quality.
Good
Amazing
I checked in very late and the staff greeted me with a smile. Check in was smooth and the room extremely clean.
Awesome. Very nice
Disappointing response to Covid-19
I was very surprised that a hotel of this quality is not taking the Covid-19 epidemic seriously. Checking in, there was no hand sanitizer on the front desk or offered to guests as they entered the hotel. No temperature checks or questions from where guests had travelled within the last month. This is a hotel that has an international client base so it was not only disappointing to witness this behaviour but also highly irresponsible in the current climate
There conference room is too close to guests rooms and before the conference commences the participants roam around the hotel grounds waking the guest up.
The best stay to-date
Absolutely amazing stay. I never met such friendly staff ever. Keep up the good hospitality guys!
Clean and professional staff
Amazing
Checking and approval of room conditions prior to new arrivals will help.
The location is fantastic, beds are comfortable and room was clean in general. Waiters were friendly with great service, dinner and breakfast was good. Would have liked a mini fridge in the room, we were a family of four however only two towels and two coffee mugs were provided. The grouting in the shower could do with a good scrub especially around the shower door. The pool is novel since it looks like a typical farm dam but is not child friendly at all. Parents can't relax at a table next to the pool since you can't see the kids inside, you either have to be in the pool with them or stand around the edge while they swim. Overall a good stop over, will consider booking there again.
location. Staff very frendly and helpfull. stunning views of the big hole .
The hotel room did not have enough towels, cups, and did not have a freezer
Accommodation was good, worth the rating
Best hotel in Kimberley 👍👍
Beautiful and charming hotel. Safe parking. Great breakfast and very friendly staff. My 1st choice in Kimberley. Thank you very much. Missed room service. Prefer it till 23:00 please for late arrivals.
Next to the Kimberly Mine. Lots of history. Restaurant was nice and good food.
Good service
Very clean with a nice breakfast
Disappointed
I confirmed and paid for the accomodation only to arrive at the hotel and be told they were fully booked
Nice and close to the big hole and mining museum. Good food and shoos nearby however the condition of the hotel is not what we expected.
The staff is very friendly and i also liked the cleanliness of the room.
Nice place
The service at the bar was lacking, they ran out of vodka and we had to wait for them to purchase more. Other than that, I thought it was okay... Nothing really special.
Not 4.star quality
Our stay was marred by several small unfortunate incidents! Please note that the wifi at this establishment is nonexistent although advertised to be reliable and high speed. On check-in, and even worse check-out, it was not noted that I had prepaid my accommodation. We did not have bath towels in our room on check-in and everytime our room was cleaned we were only supplied with 2 towels although we were 3 guests. The towels that we were supplied after our request the first night were smelling very bad. The hotel ran out of water on our first night and the reserve water tanks had to be opened only after what I guess was numerous complaints. We phoned three times to report the problem and only after I got firm with the staff did they give us feedback. Our toilet paper ran out after it should have been noticed when cleaning was done. The manager tried his best to make up for all the mishaps, but please do not expect any reply from the Protea Hotel Group complaints line!
Ok, it's standard accommodation Ok Ok, it's standard accommodation Ok Ok, it's standard accommodation Ok
Excellence at its best!
This hotel gets a massive thumbs up!!!
Good Accommodation
One of the best hotels in Kimberly
Big Hole best accommodation
Staff were wonderful. The women's rest room on arrival was terrible - the hotel was full with the ABSA road show on their new image and I suspect that to be the reason....management arranged cleaning straight away - it just was not in keeping with the beautiful entrance. The bathroom in our room was in need of a proper spring clean. We had a wonderful stay and the staff were all very attentive!!!
Good Stays
Very very peaceful indeed. A good stay!
Protea Hotel Kimberley
Amazing stay indeed
good short stay
Well located at the big hole, probably one of the better hotels in kimberly, with spacious rooms and good service
Nice
Good
Great Hotel
Amazing indeed
amazing
Good but not great.
The food is not great and charge is too high. Charging 5star prices whilst the quality is not t the same standard. The pool is unacceptable and not child friendly and does not cater for small kids. Be aware that breakfast is not included in the rate. The breakfast is nice but the price is a little steep. Otherwise we enjoyed the proximity to the big hole!
Nice family outing
The trip was amazing
Stop over on family road trip
We had a quick stay over on route to Gordon's Bay. Hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The best hotel in Kimberley
Just super Amazing
Diamond on the edge of the Big Hole
Great place to base from for a week Good food and friendly staff
Okay room
The room was okay, looked clean. Lacked a few things: ni fridge, no shower cap, the wifi was terrible. The breakfast wasnt the best, I was served coffee with a cup that looked unclean.
An excellent hotel
Excellent place to stay.Everybody was friendly and helpful. The room is small but comfortable.I liked the shower but my wife would have preferred a bath. The restaurant was vey good and the service there was tops.Overall a very good hotel and we will recommend it.
A nice Hotel, if you must go to Kimberley.
No need to go to Kimberley, but if you do, staying at the Protea Kimberley is a great choice. The hotel is very decent, and a great staff. Contrary to others, the food is quite decent. So far most eating establishments prefer comfort food in South Africa. The Big Hole is interesting and the Historic visitor center area are all there is.
Very clean room and friendly staff.
Our stay was great. Room was clean and neat. Loved the old feel of the Hotel.
Excellent base in Kimberely
The staff is super friendly and happy in an excellent maintained hotel. This is the only place to stay in Kimberley for business or pleasure. Breakfast is a bit pricy but found nice place nearby. So thumbs up to the friendly staff who could not be more helpful.
Convenient and clean
Amazing stay
Good value for money very comfortable rooms
Convenient
It was good short but the dinner was terrible
The aircon did not work in our room, so we were moved to a new room. The new rooms one worked for a few minutes and also stopped. A disappointment. We ate in the restaurant and had a great meal with good service. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful!
Great place at reasonable cost
had a pleasant stay.
Beautiful but
We stayed at this hotel on two separate occasions. Parking is plentiful and the decor in the lobby area is impressive and stylish. Our room was a standard room and featured a television, safe, coffee/tea making facilities and the usual toiletries provided by hotels. The hotel also provides towels to be used at the swimming pool. Free juice and water bottles are provided in the lobby. The staff is very friendly.
Over priced and hidden costs
Over priced and hidden costs. The bathroom light was hanging by the wires in the bathroom. AC was noisy. Bed very uncomfortable and lumpy. Would not stay at that price again.
Average Protea hotel at a great location.
Not the best Protea hotel I've been to, but the point is that it's on the Big Hole - right on top of it, which is the best location in this dumpy town. Everything else is normal 3-star quality with average restaurant service...pool is terrible - it's an old cistern, but the lobby is nice.
Perfect stopover from CT to Pta
Hotel on the edge of the Big Hole, beautiful decor and very comfortable. Interleading rooms great for families. Friendly staff and good service
Warm Welcome!
Very nice stay, and warm welcome.
Great place!
We enjoyed in Protea Hotel. Very comfortable, dinner was great. Very good location to the Big Hole. Very nice and interesting stay.
Good hotel experience ,comfortable, economical, good breakfast
Truly Protea
Lovely warm rooms for the winter stay. I found that the shower design allows water to go into laminate flooring - might age this new establishment sooner. Otherwise safely Protea standards.
Just a pit stop, rather go for guesthouse/ farm
Had to ask for extra towels, cups and glasses. Towels were stained. Glasses had soap stains. Entrance/ carpets had musty/ old smell. I had to proof that payments were already done, as no evidence were on system. Prices on their bill and what I actually paid differ.
Warmest Northern Cape hospitality
The hotel exceeded my expectation in every way. It totally fitted in to the historic surroundings. The service was real northern Cape hospitality. The room was comfortable and provided for all our needs. I would definitely recommend it and would most certainly stay there again.
Disappointment with stay. Kimberley Protea.
No blankets in room. Had to ask for blanket. Table service sluggish.Breakfast there were uncleared tables. The only table available had not been laid properly. We had to ask for cutlery. Patron dropped dishing-up spoon on floor, picked it up and placed in food dish. Un-noticed by hotel staff.

Nice old vibe with history
Had problems with the aircon system. It was a weakend of 39 degrees days and aircon did not cool the room at all, even after we asked to be moved to another room. They need to make a plan with the aircon system of the rooms.
