Terrible Hotel with no Compassion
We booked this hotel for a long weekend trip to NZ, which got delayed due to tropical cyclone Alfred in Queensland. Our flights, hire car, car parking and train tickets all allowed us to delay our trip, as it was out of our control. All apart from this hotel, who repeatedly refused to give us any wiggle room on our booking. I understand we had a ‘non refundable’ booking, but we politely asked to delay our room, not cancel. We were not asking for our money back, just simply delay out booking because of a natural disaster. But there was no common sense or compassion for our situation. We visit NZ regularly and will never book this hotel in the future. We have delayed our trip and had to book a different hotel. Unfortunately I can only review this hotel on my experience with them, which was terrible and had no understanding or compassion.
Too noisy
We enjoyed our stay and will be rebooking next time we visit Auckland city
Quiet for central city
Shower didn't work, no toiletries in room although arrived within minutes once we mentioned it
Great location but the hotel is dated and the rooms don’t look or feel clean
Great location, unfortunately road works everywhere & getting an uber or taxi was hard. Renovations look good, but one of the rooms we had, was ridiculously hot. This room had no air-con, so they gave us a fan. Fan did nothing. Got a second fan. Two fans blowing hot air around the room, not good. Fortunately, our other room had air-con. Thank Goodness. But someone had to sleep in the hot room. In saying all that overall it was good accommodation, hopefully once the renovations are complete, all rooms will have air-con
Great location. I think the hotel may be going under a renovation and we probably got an older room. The linens were clean but overall the room was a bit dingy. Very very noisy at night so sleep was not good. The staff was very friendly and accommodating!
The hotel is badly in need of refurbishment. Our room was tired and dated. Really needs to be worked on. Overpriced - we only went there because we wanted a separate bedroom. Extremely noisy through the night as well.
Overall a nice hotel, undergoing renovations, but nice staff, spacious rooms, clean, and breakfast provided! A great location, close to the park and the museum and a 15 min walk from the water.
we liked our stay thank you
Very clean room. Great breakfast

Overnight stay
Always nice + convenient staying here The room, however, seemed warm although aircon appeared to be on??? A portable fan wouldve been good Nice shower + good fan in bathroom
Good value for your money
Greatt location, great breakfast, room comfortable staff great. But couldnt get nz news on the tv and the tv was hard to understand so basically didn't use it.Also the little fridge was in an enclosed space and wouldnt run cold until we pulled it out and left it on the floor. With it running so hot I think it will be a fire risk
Very very bad experience
The room was on the fire dolor área (Behind) it was Fortunata, iglú and smelly. Towels dirty Terrible experiencia
Hong Kong is up hill and down dale. The hotel is very nice. Breakfast is unusual in that you are placed on a big table with other guests. All the staff are very curtious and very nice.
Comfortable
Not our first stay, but the new upgraded rooms are amazing. The breakfast staff and the Chef are a credit to you. Was very quiet and comfortable, easy access to everything in Auckland CBD
Concierge was rude and unacommodating and didn’t even try to help us with early check-in/check-out. Not friendly. Rooms were very small.
Great location and staff
The room, location, staff all very helpful and friendly. Couldn't find any nz tv news channels on the TV which was a bit hard to come to grips with. One major problem was the fringe, it was in a cubby hole and was unable to funcion properly with the temperature being hot and the cutlery drawer very hot so the only way to get the temp down was to pull it out and leave it on the floor. Personally I think that with it working overtime I think it could be a fire risk.
The room smelled so musty we could hardly believe it, our room was also not ready when we arrived at 4 - 2 hours after check in time Parking was also difficult and expensive
From the front, it doesnt look like much but they are currently under renovations and we were lucky to have a new room which was really nice. Friendly staff and excellent location.
Management didnot respect our reservation/booking
Fist night we passed it outside because Management didnot respect our reservation/booking
I would give it ZERO stars if I could
I have traveled the world and never stayed in such a horrid and run down hotel, with no customer service. I should have realized before I arrived that this would be the case, when I messaged the hotel 5 times and no one responded. Check in was delayed as the room was not available. This is a regular problem at this hotel. Check out is at 10am and check in at 2pm, and there is never rooms available on time. I stayed on the 3rd floor. The whole floor has an offensive smell like an Indian restaurant. All of my belongings smell of curry or whatever other Indian smell it is on that entire floor. The elevator door opens and you can almost faint, that’s how strong the smell is. The mattress must be 30 years old and in horrid condition. I could feel the coils in the mattress. Room is NOT clean and I am certain the bed sheets were not changed before I checked in after the last person left. They only have cleaning service every 3 days. Breakfast at the restaurant is digusting as many others have said. Hardly any selection and the food is what you’d find in a food stall at a flea market of a developing country. Honestly, there are no words it. Room had flies in there, as others have mentioned and the person in the room next to me was complaining about bed bugs. This hotel should be shut down. Lastly, I faced the road, and there was loud music playing until the wee hours of the night. Don’t plan on actually getting any sleep here.
Had a great stay here twice now: clean, comfortable and very close to the city centre
Convenient location and reasonable
Good place to stay in central area. Grocery and dining all close by and easy access to waterfront.
乾淨,交通方便,WIFI訊號弱
Likes - as above. We have stayed here several times and find this Hotel handy and comfortable.
.
The hotel is very well located to most places in the city. Rooms very good size, comfortable bed. Breakfast was really good. Could have done with a wine glass &/ or a coffee plunger.
didn’t have the room i paid for
I booked and paid for a Superior King room but got a small room with queen bed…no refund for difference Wanted and early check in as I arrived at 5:30am leaving Australia at midnight with no sleep but could not get into my room till 2 pm I’ve been here 3 previous times in 4 months but this company does not want returning guests by how they treat them
Great value and location. Renovations happening in reception didn't take away from our experience. The bed was very comfortable with nice linen, the room was dated but very quiet. The heat pump looked like it needed a service as it was dirty. Fortunately, we were able to open the window and enjoy the cool summer night air. Complimentary, cooked breakfast was great too. All in all great stay.
Centrally located, convenient and safe. The staff are lovely and courteous.
Location and facilities are great
Non recommended
Access to Uber w luggage is terrible. Noise w/ construction w/in hotel. Was aware of outter area. Room was acceptable, location good, but accessibilty and assitance w/luggage handing was severly lacking and inconvenient/ frustrating. In addition to no washcloths available. Would not recommend in general, especially persons w/ disabilities or requiring assitance.
very good
Older hotel. Good value. Great breakfast.
Room was not prepared
I liked the free buffet breakfast
Really enjoyed my stay here
Very helpful staff, who changed our room as original one had no window or air con, lovely breakfast
Better than expected
I was expecting a not so great room because of good location and reasonable price. Was very good. Breakfast excellent. My only complaint is hearing people talking in halls.
Hotel room was very old and had a lot of stains on the carpet and furnishings. Especially for a ‘superior’ room, it was well below standard. Other friends that booked the same room for the same price had nicer rooms.
The President Hotel is a bit rough around the edges. We liked its convenient location. We felt safe and, although the room has seen better days, it was clean and comfortable. Although the major roadwork underway in the area can make things tricky, if you’re sticking to walking you’ll be fine. The hot breakfast was not a gourmet meal, but it was hearty. The staff were helpful and polite. The hotel is in the midst of major renovations, so I’m guessing it will be much less affordable soon.
Good
The room was a nice size . The bed was very comfy. Was a bit noisy late at night outside but apart from that it was good. Staff were helpful and friendly
The place was amazing, close to everything. Cleanliness is average and staff need to refill toiletries before customers get checked in but, over all ok for the price.
Staff were very helpful and friendly from check in to breakfast (chef Parmila) and the cleaners! Thank you
Location is great and central. Executive room is not like on the photos on website. Very dated. Smelt of curry as soon as we got out of the lift. Key pass didn’t work - kept asking for it to be updated - frustrating. Staff were lovely. Only juice available is apple for breakfast. Curtains were useless/let all light in. Stains on sheets. Gap under the door - very noisy from hallway. Double glazing on side windows but not bedroom windows facing the street - again very noisy from street. No dining table as per photo.
No dinning besides breakfast
This is in a good central location although there is a lot of construction in the area. We had a family suite which had good amenities including a kitchenette and washer & dryer which came in handy. The beds were comfortable and the shower was good. Included basic breakfast which was ok. Staff were friendly on check in. The only downside is when we checked in for a 3 night stay (4people) there was only a quarter roll of toilet paper and the tissue dispenser/box was empty. We had to ask for another roll of TP as our rate didn’t include housekeeping.
Hotel was clean ,comfortable & room was quiet. The quality of the breakfast was better than I expected & the staff were competent & friendly I would stay again
Heart of Auckland, great location Plan to book parking in advance...and pay for it.
Good staff, very helpful and the complimentary breakfast was good. Property is tired and in need of renovation. Beds are not comfortable.
Great breakfast and convenient to city shopping, Woolworths next door and harbour area. Room was refurbished, second room of double room was internal and not as cool as main connecting room which had an open window. Would stay again, close to Sky City bus terminal.
The electronic key was broken twice during my four-night stay.
Closes to harbour shopping and lots of dining Friendly staff
Pleasant stay. Good bed and pillows. Slow service at front desk (understaffed). Absolutely horrible wifi. Hard to connect - kept losing signal. This needs to be improved for travellers
This isnt about the property although it is wonderful, the staff here are amazing. Polite people with quick service and willing to help out with what ever you ask, i appreciated that they made me feel so fancy 10/10 😭
Super friendly and accommodating staff; central location in CBD with stores and restaurants right there; also 5min walk to the airport shuttle. Nice spacious room, excellent wifi; highly recommend!
We paid $369 for a corporate bedroom and I expected a better more spacious room. I could have got better value elsewhere, yes breakfast was included but overall it was less than expected.
Great location and a very lovely staff
Came for the Coldplay concert. Had a beautiful room, very friendly staff, and easy to walk to Britomart for trains to and from Eden Park. Highly recommend m!
The toilets were really smelly. Complained to staff but nothing happened. Stayed there for three nights - worst experience ever. Do not recommend
Clean/tidy and recently renovated
The hotel staff were very friendly. I was able to check in a little early as my hotel room was ready earlier. Continental breakfast was delicious! The shower in my bathroom had poor water pressure and it was slightly dirty the shower itself, otherwise the rest of the bathroom was clean.
It was ok. Tired room in need of an update. It was clean though.
Honestly I think this hotel is incredibly run down. They have a extremely beautiful reception and as soon as you go to your room it's like a 2 star hotel. There were 4 of us staying in a room. The alarm went off at 3am. It sounds like someone's using power tools when you run hot water. Again there were 4 of us and only 15 minutes of hot water. We were not allowed to check out until someone checked our room to make sure it wasn't trashed which took about 15 minutes. Not worth the $400.00 per night.
Finding how to get to the parking garage was tricky (construction going on) but overall was a nice stay and nice location
We had a lot of space with a very nice view of the city. Everything around us was walking distance which made it very convenient
I have a room with no windows. The girl at the réception say « you have pay a good price with Expedia and at this price no window, we change our conditions because now we want to be 5 star..
Great location in easy walking distance to everything in central Auckland. Nice size room with really comfy beds.
The hotel was fantastic would go back!
Location and lovely staff.
Convenient hotel in heart of the city. Amenities pretty tired and had seen a bit of wear and tear.
Good location
If you walk: Supermarket is one minute away. Sky drive bus to airport is five minutes away. Ferry deck is 10 minutes away. Basic breakfast is included.
My room was not the room I was told. You couldn’t see any sunlight. Gym and outdoors were just noisy. No parking.
Good
Great location! Very close to Sky Tower and Queen Street with a grocery store almost nex door. Kitchenette in the room plus a complimentary cooked breakfast
The staff and location were great! However, the parking is a nightmare, there was no soap in the bathroom or kitchen, and we could hear the neighbors all night.
Good hotel for 1 or 2 nights, but not sure for longer stays. Very well located as it is right in the center, 2 min from the Sky Tower. The rooms are a bit small and outdated though. The free breakfast is a plus.
Location was great, price was reasonable
Overpriced for quality
Stayed for 7 nights no issues. Friendly staff and convenient location. The only issue we had was finding the hotel due to numerous road works and hotel sign itself was not prominently located so as to be seen from the road when driving.
Great staff. Could do better at brakefast with fresh fruits option. Would return to stay.
We regularly enjoy staying at The President Hotel and so we’re very disappointed in the room we were allocated. It was very small and dark with one window that had a view of another building. We liked the bathroom and found the bed very comfortable. The check-in receptionist was unsmiling and seemed disinterested. On the other hand the woman receptionist who checked us out was friendly and recogised us from previous visits. We will return in the future at least once.
Great location.
The staff were very helpful. I was given a free breakfast with my stay although parking was an additional $35. Great location and a nice yet basic room. When doing the recent renovations it would have been good to upgrade the shower. The rest of the room was good. One of the best value options in the city centre.
Quiet, clean, convenient.
We spent 2 nights here. Didnt have a problem at all. Service was excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. Great location to Sky Tower, The Viaduct and Queen St shopping. Supermarket right next door was very convenient. Room was spacious and comfortable. We even got an upgrade on our room to the top floor! Very happy.
Customer service and Facilities are great.
Not a bad place to stay except for all the construction noise currently going on.
Very clean and comfortable room. Great view of the sky tower from our corner room.
Nice and easy, choose the valet parking to save the hassle of parking yourself if you don't need the car during stay.
Helpful, friendly staff, clean hotel.
family birthday get together.
We were there for a Birthday. Handy to every thing, breakfast was filling. Needs a bit of an update but good over all.
Quite run down, dilapidated, poor quality mattress and pillows. Single glazed windows, noisy heat pump and fridge, small tv. Take a trip back in time to a 1970s hotel. Room has a faint smell of old cigarettes - it is smoke free, but just can’t get rid of those years of smoking. The gym is tiny. Has one treadmill, an exercise bike and some nylon dumbbells (heaviest 10kg!!), no weight bench, no water in the water dispenser, no cleaning wipes. Breakfast pretty good. Quite a rough part of CBD with people begging outside the grocery store close to the hotel. If I was an international visitor this would be a poor reflection on Auckland.

Central
Lives up to its 3 stars. It’s not trying to be anything flash. Worn and office like rooms. Bed good. Breakfast a bonus. Car park super weird and tight.
