Posada Lamar Tulum is located directly on a beautiful stretch of Tulum beach where swimming is fine. There are lounge chairs and day beds for guests; and massage services on site. There's also an inviting pool for quick dips. At night, from my room (Esmeralda) I could hear the waves crashing at night. In the morning, staff brings your continental breakfast with strong coffee and fresh fruit right to your door. My bed was comfortable and I appreciated the mosquito netting. Thanks to Adriana at the front desk for her hospitality; all the staff were extra-friendly and helpful. I felt they really cared about the guests. The air conditioning only operates during nighttime hours--keep that in mind during the warmer months. It wasn't a problem in January. The hotel has a septic system (as do most hotels and restaurants on the beach in Tulum) so that might be a consideration if you're the delicate type. My shower had strong water pressure, which was great. The location is close to many restaurants and clubs. There's a limited sidewalk so I wouldn't recommend trying to walk anywhere far due to the narrow main road and traffic. Posada Lamar has a sister property the Comoran, with its own private cenote. Guests can visit the cenote which is not to be missed and a highlight of my visit to Tulum. Overall the Posada Lamar is in tune with Tulum's unique vibes and setting.
Staff, atmosphere , amenities. Great place to have a nice quiet getaway. Great price too!
Not at all close to internet photos.
First of all i love the location and the hotel is directly on the beach only think i don't like the AC only comes on from 9 pm to 7am so in the summer time its extremely hot before and after those hours .
Loved the service, the services, safe place, security guard great person, the place, the view was amazing, the only bad thing I can say is the air conditioning wasn’t working well and there’s a time from 9pm-7am, also there’s no fridge in the room so we had to go out and buy ice etc.
Excellent Stay Highly Recomend
We have only amazing things to say about Posada Lamar. Our room was the highlight of our trip. Waking up to sunrise over the ocean every morning was spectacular. Our commentary breakfast was perfec we opted to add eggs and they were able to provide gluten free option. The staff was lovely and the beach bar was a nice treat. We read other reviews that said no drinks but there were. Compared to the other hotels in the area Posada Larmar was a refreshing Mexican run establishment that made us feel at home. We cannot wait to return! We also upgraded to a ocean view room and highly recommend it. Only thing we'd improve was the tub in our room did not function with hot water or jets but shower did.
Very nice and clean, they are very nice and friendly, Renato, Adriana and Jorge were very welcoming, everyone there was sweet, definitely recommend staying there.
This is not a resort. It is house uNder construction. Far away from a Resort with authentic eco-cabins and luxury beachfront rooms. We had to be there for 5 nights we left after 50 minutes. The shortest and most expensive experience of our life. We contributed to reconstruction of that house.
Loved it 😍
Honestly best value in Tulum! The room was gorgeous. Huge bed, a soaking tub, spacious shower, and a little table for breakfast. The concrete aesthetic is also such a cool vibe. The view from the room was also gorgeous, we woke up to sunrise and the beach right outside our window every morning. The location was also perfect. It's on the more northern side of the "south beach" Tulum strip. The party scene is right down the street but far away enough for the evenings in your room to be so quiet all you can hear are the ocean waves. Getting to places was a breeze with the free bike rentals. Honestly one of the best places we've stayed on our week trip in Quintana Roo!
Posada Lamar hotel
Great time at this hotel! Great beach area and super friendly staff!
Excellent Stay!
Stay was excellent! The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The location was great within walking distance or short taxi ride to the most popular places in the hotel zone. They provided a large cooler and a safe. The view from the room was amazing and the private pool in the room was also beautiful. Our room and the pool/beach area is very instagrammable. While there is some construction going on next door it didn’t bother us at all. There was massage service at the hotel right on the beach. It was nice to have our own beach area to ourselves as opposed to the bigger hotels where you have to share with so many people. AC and hot water worked great. Some nights we didn’t even need the AC and the fan/open windows were enough to keep the room cool. We didn’t have any issues with bugs or critters. Having breakfast delivered to your room daily was a plus and they had a good variety. There was parking on site and the hotel has security so we felt very safe. Highly recommend if you’re wanting to stay in the hotel zone!
Great place, great staff
Great stay in tulum
A pleasant, no-fuss hotel right on the beach in Tulum. We stayed for 3 nights while our friends stayed at a much more expensive hotel next door. The included breakfast was perfect before spending the day exploring cenotes or sitting on the beach, and there are moderately-priced massage services available on site right on the beach (we didn't end up taking advantage of them however). Our room was just steps off the beach with a view of the pool and a lovely set of chairs outside. The bed was comfortable, and thought the AC only works overnight, we didn't spend time in the room during the day anyway, and the sea breeze kept us cool sitting on the beach or by the pool. Overall, a great place to stay for a very reasonable price.
I wouldn’t stay here again even if it was for free. First of all, this hotel looks abandoned. Second of all, they only turn the air-conditioning on at night, And the room gets very humid. I was there last week, October 2021 I just can’t imagine how this feels during the summer time. The front desk person didn’t have a key for my room, he had to get the one from the custodian and only because I demanded one. There were ants in the bathroom and to top it off, my wife ran out of water and had to rinse off with water bottles. Good luck trying to speak to the manager, she never showed up even though we were told she was coming next morning. I don’t know if they are going out of business, but the hotel looked horrible. Parking lot is a joke too. If you need to get out, they have to get the other guests to move their cars. DONT STAY HERE, TRUST ME. Worse experience ever. I truly feel sorry for the staff, they do their best with what they have. I can’t imagine how many complaints they get every day! Don’t get fooled by the website pictures. I wish Expedia had an “inspector” to travel to the hotels that have bad reviews to verify them. It’s a shame that they market this hotels that are in these conditions. Oh and by the way, it was not cheap at all. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Friendly staff, the only thing I would mention is that at the beach bar the music was too loud and since I don't like rap, it wasn't a great attractive for us to stay at their space... So we moved further out on the beach. Other than that the place is pretty good.
Posada Lamar is a tranquil yet fun escape from the stupidity of many hotels and restaurants in Tulum. My absolute favorite part of this hotel is how warm and friendly its staff is - on our last day a staff member and his adorable family relaxed by the pool something other uppity and callous hotels would ban, but something that reflects how awesome this place is. This place reflects the the old and good Tulum.
Great Staff, Not Too Tranquil
First off, the staff was excellent. Friendly, accommodating, helpful and kind. Jorge and Adriana at the front desk were incredible. Eddy, Ingrid and Manuel did everything to make our stay comfortable from serving breakfast to handling all our room needs. And Reuben at the beach bar was all smiles, welcoming and made a mean michelada. As for negatives, there are really just two. The hotel, while cute, is definitely a two star. The rooms are old, electricity randomly goes out, hot water is hit or miss…. Second, and this is really the biggest issue we had, Tulum is basically a club. One cannot escape constant pounding of house music. It’s as if the neighboring hotels are fighting over who can play the loudest club music. If you are looking for R&R while sitting next to ocean, there have to be better places. Though, if you are young, single, want to party all day/night, this could work well. And what was not mentioned on any travel site is the weekly Sunday party at the hotel. Over 100 people showed up and took over 95% of the beach area of the hotel. We were there for 9 days, so losing one day to madness was ok. We would have been livid if we were only there for a long weekend and lost the day.
Incredible value!
Beautiful place! Amazing and friendly service.
Amazing room!! Really big, with a small fridge and hot water on the jacuzzi pool inside the room, it would have been perfect!
This hotel was simply amazing the room gave you a rustic Bohemian style while the pool area gave you a more modern touch the service was amazing the host was very attentive
Nice Stay
This was a very convenient, and clean lodging, with creative adorable touches in the room. Very great location, walking distance to all the yummy restaurants, although it had a great bar itself! The pool was clean and lovely and breakfast was a small continental.
Wonderful property with an amazing beach area that includes a bar, bbq, and music. Comfortable and spacious rooms. Air conditioning only runs at night and did not work all nights. Friendly staff. Great location. Would definitely stay again and recommend.
amazing romantic welcoming
Amazing stay, they had a welcoming gift in my room, rose petal, and candles. They went above and beyond, big thanks to Adriana Davila. Everything was perfect.
Worth the money
Love this place. So peaceful. Breakfast - granola, yogurt, coffee, toast and fruits. Beautiful beach. Definitely can’t beat the price
Awful!! Do not stay at this place. There’s cockroaches, terminates, the AC unit doesn’t work, the electricity would go in and out, and it’s humid. No, it was just an awful experience. Do not recommend it.
Bad experience
The room we booked didnt have AC and they told us before we checked in and said we could cancel...they would approve the cancellation once hotels.com called...well they didnt and I ended up being charged the full amount.
The only good thing about this hotel was that it was steps away from the beach. Overall it was very a disappointing stay. The floors inside the room were dirty upon arrival, the bed only had a sheet no blanket and with the air conditioning blowing directly on you at night it got cold. The air conditioning is only operable from 9PM-9AM, it is not adjustable to increase or decrease the temperature, our first night the A/C didn't come on until around 9:30PM and then in the morning it shut off early as well (about 8:15AM), the second night we came home around 3AM to no A/C (as it's supposed to come on automatically), the gentleman at the front desk was of no assistance to get it working so we slept that night in the heat, the third night in the hotel was the same as the first, A/C started late and shut off early. There's no mini fridge so expect to pay a lot for drinks and food along the beach considering you can't even have a cold one in your room before going out. Also, a lot of reviews say FREE bikes so that is one of the reasons we booked here, upon arrival they said it was $10USD /each person to use the bikes for your entire stay. If you talk to them you can negotiate free bikes for your stay. Breakfast was included but it wasn't very good - the "bread" which was more like old crackers was burnt every morning, the yogurt was warm, the bananas and apples were brown and they give you a giant carafe of coffee that only pours 1.5 cups of coffee if you're lucky. Disappointing.
beautiful place by the sea
Beautiful place, fairly basic but great style and all the things you need. People were lovely, it was always clean and having breakfast brought to your room/ terrace was really great! The pool area and deck overlooking the sea with chairs and beanbags was fantastic and we spent a lot of time there. The only kind of negative thing I could mention is, there is no restaurant or even bar, so no drinks by the pool. That being said, there are lots of places either side just a few minutes away for food and drinks, but if you wanted to have a drink by the pool or sea, you’d have to spend a minimum spend at the beach clubs, to be able to use the facilities.
This hotel has a beautiful pool and the rooms are lovely. They brought breakfast to our room every morning and were eager to help us with any outings or inquiries.
Wonderful views and super friendly staff. I did not know this location has a policy where the AC can only be turned on from 9PM to 9AM. This is in September where temperatures and humidity are both upwards of 90. We originally booked the room for a week but only lasted one night. We drove to Cancun to stay at a different hotel. Maybe let people know about this policy upfront?
I loved the service and the property is beautiful. The staff -Jorge- recommendations for small typical restaurants were fantastic!! However, the room was not child friendly, few noticeable hazards, ails without fences... if you know a family with kids is going to stay, it'd be nicer and more relaxing for the parents to have a 1st floor room, away from the unfenced ails and terraces. Great place, I'd totally recommend it!
everything was great about the hotel. The views, the locations of the hotel and the whole vibe was pretty amazing. Will definitely return back to Posada Lamar if I visit Tulum again.
Overall, I give this experience a good score! We had a small hiccup at check in - the room that we reserved on Expedia was verrrryy different than the room we were given. Everything was ironed out by Day 2 and we were very happy! Shout out to the reception staff for doing everything they can to help make guests have a wonderful stay. Bikes were good - as expected. Definitely bike to the Cenote at the sister property. Beach crew are amazing - they work hard to keep it clean and free of sea weed. Ojo de Agua restaurant next door has great food and will give you ice bags! (Posada Lamar will give you a cooler for your personal beer!). Overall, the sound of ocean waves will rock you to sleep every night and you will have a peaceful stay out of sight from the world. Thank you for a great stay!
Beautiful property just steps away from the ocean. We loved the Virgin Mary sink, the breakfast that came to our room every morning and the pool. Would definitely stay here again. It was perfect for three people. The seaweed in March was low and so was the mosquitos.
Nice hotel, had a few black outs and no hot water for our stay. the room itself was beautiful and right on the beach
Great rustic sea-side stay
Our stay at Posada Lamar was amazing! There are a few gotchas - no A/C and the hot water works only some of the time, but if what you're expecting is a rustic, down-to-earth, romantic beach-side stay, that's what you'll get! The staff were super helpful, breakfast was amazing, and the owners have some special locations they can take you to that make for great day trips. We went to the lagoon they own and it was the highlight of our vacation.
Holding on to their charm
we visited this hotel 10 years ago and loved it so much we recently returned 10 years later. I was shocked at the amount of change Tulum has seen over the last ten years Though was pleasently suprised to see that Posada Lamar has held on to it's charm. it is one of the last few remaining Holdouts in a sea of Cochella Remake wanabe's and Instagram superfical Fluff. Tulum Use to be about sustainability and ECO and rustic in order to keep the coast line pure, now given Electricity was somewhat needed However i feel that Posada lamar has Done as much with out Stripping What is left of Tulum's original Charicter and charm. The staff was Incredible, The breakfast were DELICOUS ( the pancakes LOVE the pancakes nomnomnom) and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We hope to return again one day But only if posada lamar stays the same as they are Best part of tulum now in my opnion.
Perfect escape
I loved this little hotel. Located in the heart of the Tulum strip but still very peaceful and quiet. Adriana, who runs the front desk and the hotel was lovely and very accommodating. The entire staff was super friendly. If you're looking for a getaway this is the perfect place. A light breakfast was brought to our room in the morning; the bed was so comfortable and all the windows have screens so you can hear the ocean waves all night and get a warm breeze all day.
Great little place. All the staff are amasing and helpful!
Highly recommended to stay on the beach
Great place to stay in Tulum, one of the few which is still affordable to be on the beach. Very good service from the team, Adriana and Jorge, always helpful and flexible for any request.
