The room was good but the facilities were pretty average.
Great experience
I have never stayed in a backpackers and I loved it! A friendly, helpful and happy atmosphere right in the centre of New Brighton. The perfect place to rest after a long day at the beach!
Eventually not a bad night
Last minute booking and they did nit send an Email with the door code, so turned up in the pouring rain, could not get in and no phone signal in porch. After managing to get someone to come down they screwed up the booking, but the duty manger gave up his room for the night. Room was a basic backpackers but fine, decor is OK but the showers / loos could do with a refresh. However good deal for a late booking and OK for the night
Out the way but fine
Ok a little way away from Christchurch but is by brighten beach which has seen better days Still had good time has pool table tv The buses in to town are every 15 minutes Staff very helpful and knowledgable
close to everthing
the bin in the bathroom was overflowing when I arrived and remained the same (but even more overflowing) by the time i left two days later. not great sign for overall cleanliness of the place.
worst place ever
We booked this plac e as my sister lives in New Brighton and we thought it would be nice to be close by as catching up would be easy as their iss plenty of eateries in New brighton. 1 Upon arrival, we booked in at the cafe downstairs, greasy windown, very grubby looking. 2 Went upstairs to our room and their was this terrible stench that hit us like a ton of bricks when reaching the top of the stairs. 3.We went to our room, and were very dissapointed that their was a tv monitor screen, no freeview, and screen was only suitable to be used for dvds. 4 Windows in room grubby, and carpet in hallways shabby, the lounge was past the pool table room which had seen better days. 5.The kitchen is what disgusted us most, vomit on floor and in open rubbish-bins, NO clean dishes or tea towels. The sink was full of bits of fish guts, scales and other bits of fish bits. Tables, fridges and everything else in the kitchen looked like it hadnt been cleaned for rather a very long time, making a cuppa was vurtually impossible as even the jug was filthy, fridges were filled with dried blood and other unsavoury things. 6.Stripping the bed is part of the agreement and even the underlay was dirty and had dried up blood staiins on it. 7.Considering the agreement states to leave dishes and place tidy else your credit card would be charged one would presume manager blind. 8.I would never in my wildest dreams stay here again. i have never in my entire life seen anything this filty. I rate this -10.
Close to the beach
The place is a little run down and unwelcoming at first but you get what you pay for. When I first arrived I was put into a room with a guy that did not want me there and instantly ran down stairs to let the front desk know. According to him, he was told he would have the room to himself. I was then put into another room where the guest had their stuff everywhere all over the room and I just couldn't deal with that so I asked if there was another hotel nearby that I could stay. The lady at the desk was very nice, apologized for the whole ordeal and put me in a single room which I definitely appreciated. The rest of the stay was fine and I didn't have anymore issues. I do want to point out that the entire staff was very friendly but there were some people staying there and some situations that made the place seem a bit shady at times.
So far I'm satisfied with the room conditions, toilet cleanliness, and hotel environment. It's quite away from Christchurch center but that is not an issue for me. There is free car park just opposite the hotel.
Horrible stay
The bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were too soft. Curtains didn't cover all of window. TV didn't properly work. Plus sockets (not near TV but the other two on wall) didn't work. Most uncomfortable stay ever and my partner agrees too. The staff were OK one seemed really grumpy. Slices were yummy from the cafe. I hope to see improvement.
Ver nice friendly environment enjoyed our stay !!!
Nice hotel near the beach
Can be very noisy from other guests. The manger and staff are very nice.
Check in was a hassle, not the room we booked
Booked a twin room, got a 6 bed dorm. Check in was 30 minutes long and they had no idea what they were doing
We could not bring our own bedding, so had to ask for more which they readily provided. But it would have been nice to use our own as it was warmer. You are not allowed food or drinks in the room, which we found odd. We like tea and books before bed! :) We also did not know this until we went to our room with our dinner. The free breakfast they advertise is toast, tea, and coffee. Great, but no fruit or any other options. We certainly appreciated the breakfast, but having a few gluten free friends i imagine it isn't convenient for everyone. Really not a bad place by any means! especially considering the travel friendly price for a warm bed, showers and breakfast. Though in our experience we can get a better room (A private double $50) for the same price with less restrictions in a quieter location. Including a kettle/mini fridge/toaster of your own, at many of the Holiday/Motor parks
over chargered
Got all these extra charges. I rang an said i was going to be 5 minutes late so they charged me for a second night.
20 minute drive to city center
Is super peak , we book last minute, only hotel room available, 20 minutes to city, near beach, room simple and clean, as the price we pay and what u get, is fair.
nice hostel, reasonably priced
very nice hostel (shame about the earthquake)... reasonable facilities, tho kitchen quite small. great place to hole up and relax just a few hundred metres from the beach.
Convenient location
Although we booked as a group of 4, we were split into 2 rooms. we could have done with having a key each
Hotel close to the beach
The room was very basic with just a bed, table and chair. Conveniently close to the beach.
Cheap and clean
This place was ok for one night. The staff was nice and helpful. Many services in the neighbourhood.

The location of this place was great, and the staff were friendly. However the kitchen was dirty and had very few usable utensils or tools, the locks on the bathrooms didn't work, some of the lights wouldn't turn on, and all of the surfaces in our room were slightly sticky. Also, although I realise this isn't something the management have any control over, my children were exposed to language that I was extremely uncomfortable with from other guests.
