Perfect cozy choice of hotel in SF
The Petite Auberge was the perfect place to stay to explore all of San Francisco! The staff was incredibly kind, the added touches of breakfast and nightly happy hour, and a fireplace in our room was the best! Shoutout to Francisco for his hospitality and kindness. We will be back!
We had a really nice stay at Petite Auberge. We stayed at the petite suite and it was really nice to have the patio space to chill out after a long day. The working fireplace was really charming and kept us warm. Our room was plenty spacious for the 2 of us. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we appreciated the free breakfast options. They also have unlimited coffee and water options as well.
Comfortable & Clean! The Petite Auberge is a boutique hotel with wonderful staff and includes breakfast at it’s sister hotel next door. The hotel itself is quaint, with an old fashion elevator. Our room was a spacious, with a King sized bed and fireplace located in the Nob Hill, close to many restaurants and points of interest.
Charming hotel with a fabulous location.
Have stayed there maybe 5+ times over the years. Friendly staff, room on need of refurbishing. Going to sister hotel for wine and breakfast not as convenient.
Great location downtown. Beautiful hotel, unique.
Will be back!
We loved the Petite Auberge! Cozy and comfortable. The fireplace room was wonderful. Breakfast was continental but satisfying.
I slept great here! Plus, the staff was so polite and helpful. I really enjoyed the wine and cheese in the evenings. I think for a free breakfast having some sort of protein would be good for travelers (eggs, etc.) but otherwise loved it.
My niece and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Staff - especially Christy and Louis - were welcoming and pleasant. The atmosphere is charming, breakfasts & wine receptions at The White Swan were fun. Great location with easy access to cable car, buses, walking distance to wonderful restaurants. Loved the fireplace king - very spacious - enjoyed the ambiance and warmth. We cancelled The Palace Hotel reservations to honor the hotel workers' strike - we're glad we did that and opted for Petite Auberge. We avoided Union Square and the strke's noisy disruptions.
Great hotel
Nice room, comfortable & clean:)
Very quaint hotel. Would recommend to stay here. Loved the happy hour.
Friendly staff, and the customer service impeccable. Made you feel right at home. Quaint boutique hotel with a good continental brakfast and wine and cheese early evening. Would difinately stay here again!
A hotel with its own style
The lamp by sitting chair had a fault kept turning on and off, once I notified owner repair was organised. There were lots of tv channel but I struggled to find major news channels. It’s a charming, quaint and super friendly staffed hotel very local to cable car
Nice location for show at the Masonic.
Sink in dangerous state of disrepair
Hotel was cute and relatively clean, had to check in and get breakfast two doors down at their "sister hotel" which was a bit annoying but livable. The bed was lumpy and very uncomfortable. Our primary issue was in the bathroom: not only was the sink basin not securely attached to the wall, it was not securely attached to the pedestal itself. Any weight you put on the sink basin would cause it to move away from the wall and tip on the pedestal - too much weight (leaning on the sink when brushing your teeth or rinsing your face for example) would have sent the basin toppling over onto the feet of whoever was standing there. Somehow the cleaning crew didn't notice this very obvious issue, or they/management didn't care. After informing the front desk we were told maintenance would take a look that day. We heard later that day that maintenance was unavailable and asked if we'd like to change rooms, we said yes and were told a key for our second room would be available that evening when we returned. After returning that evening, we were told there was no room and we'd have to wait until the morning. In the morning we were told we'd have to pack all our things, leave them at the front desk at normal check out time, then get our new room at normal check-in time. By this point, changing rooms wasn't worth it so we were just very careful with the sink for the last night/morning of our stay. Staff was generally not concerned with the issue and offered very limited options.
Charm
Quaint property but needs a refresh. Was quite noisy with street traffic and the really creaky floors above, and our room was right by the stairs so we got everyone thumping up and down. Staff were happy to answer questions but didn’t get the feeling they cared too much.
Cute, quirky and comfortable!
It’s an old hotel, worn around the edges, which is part of the charm. Loved having sparkly water, coffee and tea at all hours. Bed was super comfortable. A few street noises but nothing too bad. We had a fireplace room but unfortunately it was the hottest week of the year in SF so we didn’t get to enjoy the ambiance. No A/C but the windows actually open so it was fine. Will stay again!
This charming, cozy hotel could use a little freshening up. Otherwise a pleasant stay.
Cute but won’t book again
The room was so cute. The balcony was nice. However, there was no AC and the bed was too firm. Had to pay $69 for valet parking. Most of all, the breakfast was yogurt, toast and donuts. Not a real breakfast at all.
I did enjoy my stay at La Petite Auberge..the cozy atmosphere, the helpful staff, the location..however the property needs some upgrade in terms of the piping system..the noise emanating from the pipes when someone takes a shower is abnormal!!!!
Absolutely terrible hotel. It is so old and looks like a haunted house. You can clearly hear the conversation of our neighbors and footsteps upstairs. I can hardly fall asleep.
Clean, friendly lodgings with a great location
The staff were all lovely and the room was clean and pretty. The bed could have been a bit firmer, but we slept well, most nights. The plumbing was extra loud when our neighbors took a shower at one in the morning. But otherwise we couldn't hear the neighbors at all. The breakfast is pretty basic - good oatmeal and pastries, hard boiled eggs, and toast. But not what you'd expect at most American "bed and breakfasts".
Lovely place. Lovely staff.
Loved the interior design. Staff was nice and informative. I would definitely recommend and stay here again
Conveniently located, great place to stay for a few nights in SF
it was a super cute hotel. offered nice breakfast. bed was comfy
All great
Loved our stay!
Very nice hotel - area urban safe - convenient dining and transportation options - highly recommend
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PLACE. Went with my wife for our anniversary and loved everything about this place. Highly recommend it. Loved the happy hour, very intimate and romantic. Loved the breakfast. Very happy with it.
Just to check the TV as that was not working
Charming
Very friendly and welcoming staff, nice evening wine and snacks, quiet, safe, and lovely restaurants all around.
Terrible Stay! The actual condition of the room was nothing like the photos; it was very dark and stifling. There were two bugs in the bathroom, and the towels were torn and old. When we tried to address the problem, the staff were unresponsive. I do not recommend this hotel.
Very quaint hotel that has a lot of charm and nice complimentary services like Wine and Cheese happy hour and breakfast.
Cute small place love that the door is locked and u buzz in or use your card and they offer free breakfest and wine and snacks at a time
Cute. Nice breakfast. Very friendly staff.
Amazing small hotel, fun and vivid interior design.
Very nice place
Very nice ambiance
Absolutely charmed filled stay. More like a bed and breakfast experience. Cody the concierge was excellent. Shared a wealth of knowledge and added to the value of our stay. Loved the elevator. Just wished there was a mini fridge in the room but no biggie.
Great!
Adore this hotel. The only place I stay in San Francisco. The staff is incredible.
Excellent service, beautiful location
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We were on our anniversary trip and this place was romantic with the fireplace in the room and the quaint decorations. We also loved the dining room area and the library. These are located on the property next door where continental breakfast is served. They also offered a happy hour with free wine and cheese, which we enjoyed. The overall atmosphere, the staff and the convenience of this location, made our stay a great experience.
this property is exactly as advertised. Service excellent, location is perfect, block from cable car
Great staff!
Beautiful property. well maintained. Wonderful staff and food selection had good variety.
Excellent friendly staff from front desk to room staff no matter the time of day. Louis was very helpful, polite and fun to talk to everyday.
Difficult to use ancient elevator. No heat cintrol. Bed was too soft.
Awesome place, stay here!!
This place is truly wonderful! It is very clean, quiet, with an excellent breakfast and happy hour, and the staff are very, very nice. Everyone we interacted with was helpful and kind. The location is pretty awesome too, walking and bused were easy. Can't recommend this hotel enough!
AMAZING!!! Staff was very friendly, very professional, very kind!!! I believe the staff we talked to the most were Fernando and Leo and they were great!!! Will definitely stay here again for our next San Francisco trip. Everything we wanted to do was close by and the area was nice.
There’s plenty of character here, and the breakfasts and wine and nibble evenings besides a fireplace are magical!
Quirky decor, super helpful and friendly staff. Free wine hour with nibbles was delightful.
I loved the fireplace, the blackout/coldout curtains, and how it felt disconnected from the rest of the hotel. The outer porch, and the way leading to it being outside was phenomenal.
The hotel was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Charming and welcoming
We loved our “little” getaway, especially the fireplace in the cozy but not tiny room and the overall ambiance a d furnishings. Staff was welcoming and friendly. The only thing that could have made it better would have been softer pillows. We shall be back!
Wonderful time! Except we had to move hotels to their sister property. The petit auberge had a heating problem and no heat was coming to the bottom floor. They brought us a heater and it was broken. Also the window had been left open by the cleaners. I am glad I asked to move bc our replacement room in the White Swan was beautiful. The petites furniture was old and our bed frame had broken spokes. The pillows and beds were not luxurious. Many of the older pieces should be updated. In the white swan there was the same character of a European inn but it felt cleaner and newer. The staff was excellent and the neighborhood/price perfect!
Good price, not handicapped suitable as the entrance was up at least 5steps and breakfast was in the building next door (again upstairs at entrance and then downstairs). The staff were helpful. I was upgraded to a room with a fireplace. This did not provide much heat. One of the two bedside lights did not work at all, the other flickered in a way it wasn’t designed to.
Boutique hotel close to all. European flavor,
Staff was amazing.
Lovely
The hotel was quaint and filled with character. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Would recommend for anyone staying in the San Francisco area!
The staff are wonderful — superior service, great recommendations, and delicious breakfast. The evening reception with wine, cheeses, etc. also was such a welcoming and classy touch. We love the uniqueness of this French-themed inn and also it’s sister property (with a British theme) almost next door where we ate breakfast and drank wine by the fireplace. Great location too.
The first night was excellent but we did not sleep the second night due to excessive noise most of the night from the room directly above us.
A real hidden gem! Felt like a European Pensione ... a real international feel.
Such a sweet little oasis in the middle of the city!
The staff went out of their way to make us feel special. We are looking forward to our next stay. My 7yo loved the old elevator
Frendly
My stay was both bad and good. The hotel itself is very old, which is ok, but there was a terrible squeak above my room from anyone waking up there and the antique elevator was right beside me as well, which is very loud. I got maybe five hours of sleep the first night between the two. Thankfully, the staff were terrific and moved me to the top floor in their next door sister hotel the White Swan (which has supposedly thicker walls) and I slept MUCH better! The breakfast is fantastic and I really enjoyed the overall experience. If I were to book again I’d go to the White Swan to start out with.
Amazing value, perfect location.
Super comfy, the fire place in the room is very cool. I also love smaller properties as the level of service is much higher.
I loved the old timy feel. You could definitely feel the history in tue building. Rooms are small, but accurate for the time period.
What a great experience!
Absolutely lovely experience. It was our wedding day. Reserved the private suite and romance package. The hotel staff and accomodations were perfect.
Great location. Very quaint and authentic and quiet. Lovely. Will stay there again for sure.
The staff is awesome ! Very clean, the room was very comfy we actually used the fireplace twice coming from Florida it was a bit chilly. I was pleased with the breakfast even though you walk to sister hotel to get it. I would definitely stay again.
Adorable and unique hotel! We only stayed one night but the location is perfect, the staff is beyond friendly and helpful, and there is so much charm! We had a small room so I’m not sure how sustainable it would have been long term but it worked for our stay. The breakfast included was a great bonus. The decor and boutique feeling were so special. Would love to stay again!
Beautiful stay ! Close to Chinatown and the wine turndown service was adorable ! 10/10
The GM louis generosity makes you feel you are invited at close friends/family mansion. Highly recommended
Wonderful boutique hotel. Cozy room as if you were staying at a friend's place. Old world charm and we loved the vintage elevator! Complimentary wine and nibbles daily that encouraged guests to mingle with such a terrific host! We also enjoyed the daily substantial continental breakfast and 24 hour access to coffee, tea and cold drinks. Located in a convenient location, just two blocks from the cable car and bus route. Would definitely stay again!
This is a unique property. Clean, friendly, central San Francisco location. Classy, eclectic, vintage decor with modest continental breakfast and evening wine hour (in neighboring White Swan property). But it is "Petite". Rooms are very small. Bath is even smaller than "tiny". Stairs are very steep but the circa 1915 elevator worked flawlessly. Walls are thin...if you have noisy folks next door, you can almost join the conversation. The location is central San Francisco. You can walk to Union Square if the cable car worthy hills don't bother you. Otherwise, you can catch the cable cars two blocks away. If you bring your sense of adventure, you will have a nice stay.
Lovely, quirky room, really friendly and helpful people.
Getaway in S F
The cleaning and breakfast staff were really friendly. Cute little hotel. It was a bit noisy with guests above us. Bed was too soft for me.
January Trip
The homeless situation, as in many cities, is always going to be difficult to remedy. Over the course of my stays, in San Francisco, the amount of homeless has grown. In my experience, most are just trying to survive, but if it is a problem for you, please, be aware it will negatively impact the pleasure of your trip. Should you travel to San Francisco, as recommended, be aware of your surroundings and which areas in the city are the safest. January is one of the best times to get a bargain, but the sun I experienced most of the days I was there, is not the norm. The pleasant weather was, probably, the best part of my trip.
Nice older hotel but not much service, vip access or not.
Check this place out.
Went for our 40th anniversary. Not you modern hotel. More of an old fashion hotel. Call for the elevator and when it arrives you open a door and slide the gate aside to get in. Really cool! The room is the same. Real nice with a king sized bed and a gas fireplace. Bed very comfy. Lots of room inside. Bathroom very nice . I have no complaints. We brought beer to the room and had no bottle opener. Called the desk and with in 3 minutes they were at the door. Did not have an ice bucket. Again withing 3 minutes a full bucket of ice was brought up. What I am getting at is the service was great!. Next door They have a free breakfast that was pretty good too. Cereal, pastries, Toast and orange juice. Great coffee. Hard boiled eggs. ( no scrambled or sausage or bacon.) More of a continental setup. Really nice seating at a table or a easy chair or couch with two or three fireplaces. Then they have a evening wine social hour. I will tell you the guy running that was on it! Wish I got his name. Within an hour we had all had 4 or 5 glasses of wine. (I lost count) Also had cheese and cracker plate with grapes. I hope you are getting the idea that if you like older instead of modern this is the place for you.
Close to restaurants, malls, attractions a walk away
Ok stay
The location of the hotel is great, and the staff are very attentive and were the highlight of our stay. The hotel itself is run down- tiny room, even smaller bathroom (the door got stuck multiple times and maintenance had to come unlock it), upstairs flooring creaks so loud it wakes you up. The hotel sent us over to its sister hotel for both check in and checkout- not a huge deal but could be challenging for those with lots of luggage.
Fireplace room recommended!
Le Petite Auberge is a renovated older hotel with breakfast near Union Square in San Francisco. There are 5 floors and an elevator. We booked a king bed room with a fireplace, and it was lovely! The room was spacious and clean, with a nice bathroom. Plentiful breakfast was served next door at its sister hotel, The White Swan. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Leon. Valet parking was available, though expensive, but there are very few free parking spots left in SF. The auberge has tall steps leading up to the front door. The decorations were floral and French-themed. The best feature of our room was the gas fireplace, which made it so pleasant to spend time in our room on a chilly autumn evening. By the way, consider the White Swan, which overall seemed to be in slightly better shape than Le Petit Auberge.
Lovely hotel with kind staff.
Great stay
Excellent service. Very accommodating. Ill be back.
European-style B & B in great location
Cute older hotel with continental type breakfast included, as are wine and cheese in the afternoon! Great location and quiet at night (although not absolutely silent, but that’s to be expected near Union Square). Clean and comfortable. The “cozy queen” room is quite small, but there are plenty of places to sit and rest in the hotel, like the downstairs lounge, a patio, or the much larger lounge at the sister property two doors down, The White Swan (where breakfast and wine are served). I liked the French decor of the Petite Auberge and the British mod-meets-traditional decor of The White Swan. Would definitely stay at either place again.
This Hotel was a pleasure to stay at. The location is unbeatable. The staff was very friendly and helpful and it was nice to have a small breakfast included. The rooms are small but exactly what we needed clean and comfortable. It can be a little noisy at the front of the Hotel by the main road, but you are in the City. I would recommend this Hotel.
Love the in-room fireplace! Unique guesthouse for a unique city
Love the unique style. Perfect for short stays to see San Fran. Staff was super friendly, complementary water and soft drinks, wine hours, and clean place. Personally I like the old antique mix with new modern style. Floors make noise, elevators is loud. So If you’re sensitive to noise and old squeaky building it’s not for you. We didn’t sleep for two nights we were there as we got the room next to the elevator. Ppl above us super loud and suitcases dragged 24/7 fo elevator. But I honestly love the place. Maybe we had bad luck with room locations this time. But pleas give it a try, truly lovely place
Great location. Beautiful decor.
The Petite Auberge is full of character and comfort. Luis and the staff were always very friendly and accommodating. I felt very safe and the locatio was super close to things places to explore.
The staff was extremely welcoming and accommodating. The valet service was excellent. I mostly enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel. Cant wait to stay again!
My room was located next to the elevator which was quite often used. Normally, that isn't an issue. However, in a building without (or minimal) retrofitting, the counterweight and noise of the engagement was quite bad. Additionally, there was maintenance being performed on a room yielding the same noise issues. A notification of "hey, we've got x going on" could have softened the blow. I'd pass on future visit.
Petite Auberge and it’s sister property The White Swann are beautifully decorated. There are many nooks to relax, grab breakfast, or partake in happy hour. A very welcoming and comfortable stay. Would return in a heartbeat!
Absolutely loved our stay here. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the hotel was just so unique and fun. The neighborhood is also very close to a lot of dining options, as well as public transportation. We will definitely stay here again.
Staff was very attentive and friendly; really interesting place.
Petite Auberge | Hotel in San Francisco | Travala.com
I like the cozzy atmosphere, the coffe and croisants for breakfast and the Wine time in front of the fire place. Francisco was very welcoming that make us feel safe and bless to be in a place like this hotel.
