We arrived at the hotel for our check-in and they advised us that they didn’t have our room available, but they would downgrade us at this point. It was almost midnight. We were exhausted and we didn’t want the tiny downgrade room. The man at the front desk was awful and clueless. He did get his manager on the phone. She was trying to be more helpful, but I guess the man at the front desk gave away our room to someone else.. we left not sure where to go wasted money on parking, let alone now we ass in a really sketch area in SF. They are supposed to be refunding us so we are still currently waiting for that
Staff and room were great. Only negative was the elevator being down at the time.
Good enough. Location isn't bad, close to Chinatown, North Beach and Union Square. Very nicely decorated. Not a good option if you need to work remotely, as the wi-fi did not work the whole time I was there and the only other spot to sit aside from the bed is a tiny table and chairs. The elevator was very old and I was nervous using it but it seemed to hold up fine. Some issues with toilet plumbing and being able to flush, but shower water was hot and good pressure. Sink is very small. They had free water fill up in the lobby but noticed it was removed later into the night. Provided good assortment of snacks and drinks in the room for an extra charge, but not a lot of other free options. Be mindful if you need to use the restroom before check in, the lobby bathroom is through the back employee kitchen which seemed sketchy at first. VERY LOUD. You can hear everyone in the hallways and late night construction in the city. They provide ear plugs which was my saving grace. Overall, good for a cheaper solo travel option
Great hotel! Nice staff, wonderful location.
Having parking was very convenient! Parking is across the hotel and there is a fee. Staff was so friendly!! Very cute hotel. Very happy with our stay!
They forget to clean the room, elevator did not work, the pictures looks much better than real life!
Beautiful decor and beautiful rooms! They’ve done a really nice job with making the property feel special and cute. I would stay here again!
The staff was very polite and the hotel itself was gorgeous. I stayed for a quick weekend and It was close to a lot of beautiful sightseeing areas and Chinatown which had a large variety of art and food! Would definitely recommend!
European Vibe, Not Memorable
Palihotel has a cool European vibe, and the location is great—just around the corner from Union Square, making it convenient for exploring downtown. The rooms had a nice aesthetic, but the showers felt a bit dated and worn. Unfortunately, the service didn’t match the stylish atmosphere. While the staff was friendly, they seemed out of touch with true customer service. The elevator was broken during our stay, meaning we had to walk up and down five flights of stairs. While that wasn’t a huge issue in itself, the hotel never offered any sort of accommodation for the inconvenience. Instead, we were repeatedly told it would be fixed “tomorrow,” but it felt like an ongoing issue. Overall, it wasn’t a terrible stay, but it didn’t stand out either. With so many other hotels to choose from in the area, I’d probably try somewhere else next time.
the air conditioner didn't work, I tried to sleep in a cold room, it was impossible, we changed the room but there was the same problem, the elevator didn't work and I had to go up the stairs to the 4th floor, I don't recommend this hotel, they are obviously unprofitable.
Elevator broken. My group was on floors 3-8! Payment system down Rooms were dark and dated This was a horrible experience all around
For a quick stay in San Francisco this was fine. Comfortable bed, meticulously clean, excellent front desk person. Convenient location. Disappointed there was no coffee on site. Limited amenities. It's like an old European hotel.
Great location
It was Beautiful
Check in great very nice and efficient staff!
Bad experience
We’ve stayed at many hotels, and this is the first time we’ve encountered a situation where guests have to register online just to request housekeeping services. This is extremely unreasonable and inconvenient for travelers. The entire place has a strange smell lingering in the air. When storing your luggage, you have to attach the luggage tag yourself.
Wifi bad in room 515
Cute hotel. Cute little bar. However, near a tunnel or metal plates on the road or something but it sounds like gunshots every few seconds.
Comfy king bed! Quiet, clean room with trendy and stylish furnishings.
Little gem! Made a last minute reservation for the same day. Hotel is a little hole in the wall. Cozy little reception area, fine you a boutique feeling. Friendly staff, old school elevator (which is beautiful).Queen bed room is tiny, but really cute, clean and comfy. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Bathroom is also small but ectopic you need. Well definitely return to this place. Super convenient location. One block from union Square. Hop on any bus across the street and go to North Beach (about 6 stops) and enjoy some italian food or gonto the corner store and get some wine and go back to the hotel and relax. Bar/ restaurant is nice, a bit too pricey in my book.cocktails are above 17 $...... Friendly staff though. Overall... cute gem worth staying at. Only complaint: tv has soe channels and no access to youtube or ability to screen mirror, so bring your HDMI cable and your laptop to prevent watching a movie with 50 mins of ads for a 90 min movie 😎 (Fridge is in the room, drinks and candy as well in a basket but no prices on the menu. Also, coffee machine with pods, but unclear if it's complimentary or not Final verdict: Stayed at many SF hotels (work in that industry) and try them out, that's my favorite so far.
It was great for the price! Everything worked fine and I enjoyed my stay. Only thing I had a problem with was the WIFI. It took a long time to connect to my laptop and it kept kicking me out. I was on the 4th floor. Other than that I enjoyed my stay!
Staff was friendly. Room was super cold and heater did not work. I had to ask for an extra blanket.
Excellent hotel. The rooms are classic SF.
I've stayed at this Pali location multiple times from when it first opened to now. This time felt different. Can't really pinpoint it. Staff was super helpful with moving rooms because the TV was broken in the original room we were assigned to. Having the text to contact staff option is nice. Downside to this property is that the rooms get pretty warm and the temperature control only goes to 67 degrees which I understand why. So if you run warm, this might not be the place for you. Also, the elevator is old and slow. Not a deterrent to stay here by any means, just an FYI. Parking is convenient, public garage right across the street and they offer overnight parking now for $20 (in after 6pm and out before 9am the next morning) so that is nice.
10/10
Cody hotel to stay
Great Stay
The hotel is so conveniently located in a high foot traffic area so you immediately feel more at ease. As soon as you walk in the lobby smells so good. Check in was a breeze, I got the run down and took a trip in their vintage elevator up to my room. The room was so cozy, super fluffy sheets and pillow. But best of all was the shower it was so spacious and the rain fall shower head was sooo relaxing. Now room service was a bit confusing, they didn’t come each day they kinda had some sort of schedule, because they didn’t clean my room until like about four days into my stay. Oh well, not that big of a deal. Sound wise it was pretty okay, but the walls are thin so don’t be surprised if you hear your neighbors, because they likely can hear you too. All in all a cozy and restful stay! Would def love to stay again with this brand.
Really nicely put together room that were very clean and organized. I enjoyed my stay! Would definitely stay there again. Only con is that the area is very noisy and can wake you up out of your sleep.
Overall the stay was nice. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were great and were quite clean. Did not like the fact that the room heaters were not working and that they were out of space heaters when requested. Extra blankets were provided but would've been nice to have a cozy warm room in the winter.
Palihotel has a special place in my heart. It’s a charming spot with luxury sprinkled in. Is it an old building? Yes, but who wouldn’t want to experiencing the real charm of SF- vintage architecture? Can you hear the hotel strikes at the nearby hotels? A little bit! If you’re not charmed by the sounds of hustle and bustle and passion of people fighting for worker rights, then maybe SF isn’t a good city for you to visit. Tons of incredible food right outside the door. Easy access to the transit system. Rooms don’t get the best light, but hey, the purpose of touristing is to be outside of your room anywho. Extra comfy beds, slept like a baby over my multiple night stay. This place is a little adventurous and the staff are incredibly kind.
The hotel was great, not a lot of space (if you have a bigger group) but it was a great size for a couple. The bar in the hotel was great, right down the street from china town so there’s a lot of great food options. Overall it’s a great hotel
I liked the hotel decor, especially the lobby. There was an issue with Expedia's pre-payment rate. I was charged the full amount at the start of my stay, rather than before I arrived or at the end of my stay. The hotel staff was helpful, but the daily cleaning service didn't clean my room. Also there aren't any phones in the hotel rooms. I'd recommend for a quick trip! There are a lot of options for dinner and exploring SF nearby. I wouldn't recommend the bus stop in front of the hotel, but there's easy access to the BART.
The palihotel is beautifully decorated and feels so special to stay in. I highly recommend it for people who plan on walking during their stay and are looking for something different than any other hotel. I very much appreciated the Dyptique scents in the room as well.
Had a massive storm the night we stayed and the ceiling was leaking and flooded the bathroom.
Boutique hotel with charm. Wish restaurant was opened and it had been less noisy with the outside protests.
Worst Hotel Experience Ever! Don’t Recommend! When we arrived, the system is broken, and our card to the room cannot open the door. The room is so tiny and the advertisement photo shows there is a table, but the room doesn’t have it. The room is really cold and the AC doesn’t work. And the lightbulb popped out. Although the staff there is friendly they gave us many information, the protest around the area is awful. It was a nightmare. We cannot have our nap during the day. One thing hasn’t solved at this moment is that they gave us the parking tickets, but we didn’t use them and they charge us for two nights parking after we left the hotel. We mentioned that we parked in the parking structure for first night that shouldn’t be charged by the hotel when we checked in, but they still charge for that. Very strange. Now, we want to give them a call to solve the issue, clearly the number cannot even be reached.
The hotel is very convenient to some of the landmarks of SF, very convyto public transportation. The room is very clean and cute for a single traveler like me. I will definitely come back and stay in the hotel again.
I had a really great experience, especially with the help from Lovely at the front desk. Lovely went above and beyond to help me with the logistics of loading in an extra large amount of luggage and was very kind. There was also a man whose name I didn't get who was very kind and helpful. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend a stay here.
Loved staying here for the night with my partner. Everything is walking distance, bars, union square. Really loved staying here and the staff was really nice :)
I mentioned this to front desk. The shelf over the small sink needs to be moved or cut back as it makes it very hard to use the sink. Other than that a great price for a great location. V clean. Friendly.
We Love Pali-Everything
We absolutely love the Pali world. We are life long fans and will always book with them if they are in an area we are staying in. The attention to detail, hospitality, and comfort is unmatched. They make you feel like you never left home. We have stayed at Palihotel SF several times and loved it every time. The only reason we rated lower (4 star) for this particular stay is because the 2nd floor bar was not operational which is a favorite feature for us. There was also wild protests that woke us up at 7am every morning. Definitely not something Palihotel had any control over but it dampened the experience significantly so it is worth noting.
Really unique property, love the period design details. Room was nice and comfortable. Windows were relatively thin so a lot of noise from the area can be heard at times. Staff were friendly and quick to support any needs.
Palihotel staff were great and the hotel itself is beautiful. However, there was a protest right outside our window (banging drums, playing loud music, screaming into megaphones) in front of the neighboring hotel that started at 6a and went on for the rest of the day and then started back up again before 6a the next morning. I was not able to get any sleep and feel sick today. I absolutely believe in the right to protected activity and empathize with the hotel workers, but it was a rough night due to the extgremely loud noise. :(
staff were so kind and the room was lovely!
Wonderful staff. Unfortunately, unfortunately, our air conditioner was not working when we checked in, we called down to the lobby and a staff member promptly arrived to help us move rooms. The property is very clean and safe. Hopefully a restaurant will open up again, but in the meantime, coffee is supplied every morning free of charge on the second floor. This is an addition to the espresso machine in your room!
The staff was great, particularly Rachel and Lovely. The location and condition were also great. My only issue was the sink: It was tiny, and the shelf above it made it difficult to use. Otherwise, I would recommend this hotel.
Very cozy and relaxing
Great place, good location. There was some noise nearby, unrelated to this hotel. Striking hotel workers were banging drums nearby, demanding better pay, as they should. Would stay here again.
Disengaged staff and lacking natural light
I've stayed at several Pali locations, most recently in LA. This property is dark and lacks natural light. Some of that can't be helped. The staff was utterly lacking in customer service or caring for that matter. When I asked for a couple glasses I was told to us our coffee cups. We asked for a couple coffee pods, we were told housekeeping wasn't in and they would send some up, they never arrived. Feels like something the front desk person could have handed out from a drawer and made that easy. Overall just lackluster experience, staff just didn't care and couldn't be bothered.
Nice little hotel. Old timey and quaint. Particularly loved the old elevator. Staff were all very nice and facilities were clean and tidy.
Excellent
Staff so helpful and friendly. Good location to getting around the city. There was a strike at another hotel and drums and noise was pretty loud, not any of Palihotel. I would stay here again.
Beautiful place to stay right in the heart of the city! So cute and quaint
Excellent stay! Thank you for everything!
When we arrived at the property we were met by Lovely, who much like her name was a pleasure to speak to. The room we had booked had an issue with the air and as the temperature inside was 87°F and had not cooled after we left for dinner I went at let Lovely know and she kindly moved us to another room. The new room was significantly smaller, but we were just happy to have cool air and it was away from the front of the building where there was a lot of noise with the protests outside the Grand Hyatt. The elevator was very slow (due to it’s age) which made it quite difficult getting to and from our room as we did have to wait a while with other guests using it too. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
NA
We stayed her in July and the room was very nice & clean. The area was prefect and walking distance to shops and the nightlife. My only issue was that the air conditioner in our room wasn't working, so our room was a bit stuffy, and we couldn't switch rooms as they were sold out. Thank you to the hotel management for offering us a discount on the air conditioning issue. I would stay here again as long as the air is working.
ok
The location of the hotel is fine. Close to everything. However, we doubt whether we are confusing "old and worn" with "vintage". We think the hotel appeared quite worn. The staff on site was incredibly nice and helpful. I give them 5 stars because they do it really well! The rooms were nice. Really good beds. The shower handle was loose and fell off. One of our sheets was torn in two places. It seems very strange that we did not notice or respond to this. Secondly, we booked a hotel for 3 adults, but we only had towels for 2. We got extra without any problems, but it's just strange that it wasn't included from the start.
This property has no air conditioning. They lied and said they would move me to a room with AC to avoid me leaving the hotel, however both rooms were 89 degrees with broken AC and no windows. Bar and restaurant including room service are not open yet, which is fine for a new property, but no AC and no fresh air in small rooms is unacceptable. From a safety perspective I would never stay here again because the elevator doesn’t require a key card and the neighborhood is sketchy and the front desk and hotel in general is understaffed.
I’m a return customer here… love the rooms, central location, and staff. Quirky & breezy atmosphere - so much better than a big chain hotel.
This time the room wasn’t very clean (hair everywhere) but the room was quite and the price/ location great
Close to a lot of things to do in the city. A bit noisy.
Amazing staff
Beautiful property, love the color schemes & decor. WONDERFUL staff, very nice and the housekeeping service on my 6th floor room was excellent-thank you for keeping the coffee pods plentiful. Will return!
No Air Conditioning, average temp in room was mid 80's suggestion was to open windows, not safe and it was in low 90's outside! No restaurant, though advertised that they had on onsite it did not in fact exist. No coffee, despite 3 requests they never got the coffeepot to work. they did offer free coffee at 7 but I was up and out by 6.
Great stay
Very clean, stylish rooms. Excellent location for Chinatown, high end shopping, & public transport to all the fun SF stuff. Great staff that quickly & pleasantly solved the very minor issues that arose.
I enjoyed the boutique style aesthetic and friendly staff and seeing a European style elevator
Great experience.
A typical SF hotel where parking fee is always required and it can be sometimes hard to find parking. There is a parking structure right across from the hotel. The hotel is quaint and small, but its also in front of a crazy busy street. The room itself was cute and small, perfect for 2! We enjoyed how it looked and even enjoyed some of the drinks and snacks they had to offer.
Historic, low-key chic
Historic yet hip, low-key chic, tranquil design vibes, all of which are a big plus in my book. Kind, friendly staff.
This is a wonderful old style hotel, but tastefully remodelled. The coffee room in the morning is elegant- from a bygone era. Most of all, the staff and guests were all very friendly. It was really a nice stay, and the prices are very reasonable. Location hard to beat. I'll be back
I enjoyed my stay here. The staff were kind, the room was great, and the location was accessible to great shops and restaurants. Would recommend!
My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay at Palihotel SF! They were able to check us in early because we were going to outsidelands and they were very attentive and helpful. The 100 year old elevator was pretty cool too! AC worked. It was also very convenient to walk to union square and the parking is close. Would recommend staying here!
Great staff and hotel. Perfect location. Reasonable parking fees for a covered and staffed car park 50m from the hotel. The rooms are great, very stylish and clean. The lift was perfectly operable and not too slow, during our stay.
Good: Convenient area surrounded by shops and restaurants, close to Bart Relatively safe neighborhood Low price Bad: Small room, even smaller bathroom Impractical design. The table is tiny like those small round coffee table at a European cafe, and the chairs are equally uncomfortable The washing sink is extremely tiny and the wood shelf panel above the sink blocks me from brushing my teeth. Room has no water kettle and no coffee TV remote is missing Only 1 staff that I can see at night, he told me there's another one somewhere but still it's understaffed
Enjoyed the convenience to Chinatown and Union Square, the only downside was the noise, which was to be expected in a city like San Francisco. The staff were great and the Hotel in pretty good shape. One downside was the lack of bar/dining in the hotel itself at the time of our stay. I have stayed at other Pali properties in the past and really enjoyed their onsite bar/restaurants in those. Overall pretty good experience!
My stay at the Palihotel San Francisco was absolutely fantastic. The hotel's location is incredibly convenient, situated in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore all the major attractions. The rooms are stylishly decorated with a modern touch and maintained a high level of cleanliness throughout my stay. The bed was extremely comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep after a day of sightseeing. The staff at the Palihotel were friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with any inquiries or requests. The hotel's amenities, including the on-site restaurant and bar, provided a delightful dining experience with a diverse menu and excellent service. One unique aspect of this hotel is its charming interior design that combines contemporary elements with a cozy ambiance, making it a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. I also appreciated the little touches like complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby, which added to the overall positive experience. There wasn't anything I didn't like about my stay. From the moment I checked in until my departure, everything was seamless and exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend the Palihotel San Francisco to anyone visiting the city, whether for business or leisure.
Lovely cute little hotel but the rooms is very small, and almost all rooms back out into an alleyway, which can be busy with other people. Bin collection is 7:30 in the morning on Sunday, and the truck comes right into the alleyway so you won't be able to miss it! :)
The elevator was down for the majority of our stay and we were located on the 5th floor. There was no warning that this could be an issue and there was no compensation offered for the inconvenience.
Q
My fiancé and I, along with several friends, booked three rooms for a wedding photo shoot. We requested all three rooms be next to each other on the same floor. During check-in, the receptionist informed us that only two rooms could be adjacent, while the third would be down the hall on the same floor. Since one of our friends had not arrived yet, we could not obtain keys for all three rooms. We decided to take the two adjacent rooms, leaving the third room on the same floor for our friend. When our friend arrived to check in, the receptionist informed us that the room we had reserved for them was no longer available and that they would have to stay on a different floor. Despite explaining the importance of having all rooms on the same floor for our wedding event, the hotel staff simply apologized and offered a room on another floor, claiming it was larger. However, upon inspection, the room was not any bigger than the other two. Adding to our frustration, upon returning to our room after a brief outing, we found that four rolls of toilet paper and the body wash dispenser had been removed, even though housekeeping had already serviced the room for the day. First, he assured us that all three rooms would be on the same floor, and then he claimed that the relocated room was larger, which was not the case. Overall, our experience with the Pali Hotel was disappointing, and we would not recommend it for anyone needing specific room arrangements for special occasions.
they did not have working ac
Hotel was great. We only stayed for one night but the staff was so welcoming and friendly. Affordable parking garage directly across the street. We will definitely be back.
Too small
They were out of cream for their coffee service and the WiFi was down in their lounge all day.
This was more bare bones than I was expecting. Yes, the soaps and design were beautiful. But there wasn't a safe, iron, or towel rack in the room. It's located at the mouth of a tunnel, and I felt generally very unsafe there. I would not recommend.
Great little hotel.
The outside of the bldg can be deceiving. Once you step inside the hotel is quite nice. The front desk was courteous and had a room available before actual check-in. The elevator is a bit outdated but no problem. The room is a bit small but comfortable and clean. The bathroom was very nice and clean. The only downside is the AC did not work in the room but we did not notice until late in the day and did not want to bother staff to move us to another room.
Cute boutique hotel, I would return again.
It’s an old building but very well maintained and clean. Rooms were modernly designed and up to date. The staff are very accommodating and helpful with our queries. Walkable to the mall, cable car, bus stop and china town which we enjoyed the most. Will definitely book again once we come back to SFO.
It was nice to walk Around the area
Friendly staff and great location.
It was really nice. The elevator was an experience but i liked it. The rooms were ok. I saw some things that were dirty. The parking is across the street. I feel like they should have a bigger sign for it because I had trouble finding it. Overall would recommend and would stay again.
Great location for Chinatown and adjacent neighborhoods. Parking was easy. Hotel was clean and aesthetically pleasing.
Comfortable rooms in city. Nothing fancy. Incredible pillows!
Great stay& Staff
I am a huge fan of Palihotels and SF didn’t disappoint. Lovey and Donny were the best! They made my stay golden!Thank you both for your excellent service
Hotel was super nice and I loved the asthetic! Everything was clean. Slept really well! Was perfect for the nights stay. Would love to return one day.
Nice front desk helper.
Beautiful space!

Hotel très bien situé. accueil très sympa. Chambre très correcte pour le prix. Nous avons testé le bar, restaurant et nous le recommandons fortement
