We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the staff were very professional and most helpful.
Reception very helpful
The property is near the Vatican and an easy walking distance to other points of interest and good food.
Close to St. Peter's Basilica, the property was clean and breakfast was very good. The receptionist was awesome!
Perfect. A little difficult to get in during late hours.
Absolutely wonderful hidden gem. We’ve stayed here every time we’ve come to Rome and it’s always worth it. Yes, it’s a bit of a walk from major monuments but the safety and cleanliness of being in Vatican City compared to the rest of Rome is unparalleled. The hotel itself is world class as being in an ancient monetary. You won’t be disappointed.
Best location!
Had a wondeful 3 night stay here. Room (superior double) was comfortable and well furnished, if a bit spare in terms of decor. As many have noted, bathroom is very small, though I found it to be manageable. Breakfast was decent with good fresh fruit options, but otherwise unremarkable. Appreciated the daily complementary beverage restocks. The daily gospel excerpts were also a great touch. Staff was friendly and helpful for info and arranging tickets and tours.
Property is steps away from the Vatican. Rooms are small but well air conditioned. Garden entrance was a nice relaxing area. Front desk was very helpful. They even packed a breakfast for an early flight out. Cab services were arranged and timely.
People who run this property are very helpful and the lady who done are room was Excellent
Micaela was the best host I’ve ever experienced in traveling all over the world. She was great to point out areas to visit, events at the Vatican and great local restaurants. Her customer service was excellent and we hope to come back soon!
Place is nice and people as well however the bathroom is so small and it looks like the size of an airplane bathroom. Awful…
Historic location and building - only 50 yards from St Peter’s. Small rooms but nice. Excellent breakfast. Wonderful courtyard - great for a hanging around after a day of sightseeing and shopping.
Hotel was excellent. Perfect location for St. Peter's Square Christmas and Immaculate Conception special events including unveiling of an incredible nativity designed by Maestro Franco Artese; walkable to other neighborhoods; a large variety of restaurants and shopping; so many other special Churches, historic sites and museums easily reached by walking or taxi.
Overall a 2/10. Staff was very reluctant to help us with small requests to try to improve the comfort of the hotel. Extremely small room and bathroom. Almost could not fit in the tiny shower. Basically paying for location only. Bed extremely uncomfortable.
The best upgrade we've ever had! Upgraded from deluxe room to garden suite. Facilities were spotless and superb by any standards. Our bedroom even had a painted ceiling in a similar style to those in many of the churches. The management could not have been more pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. Location on the Via Della Conciliazone right outside Vatican City. We like walking and were able to walk to all the classic historic sites from our hotel. The longest walk, to the Colosseum, was only 40 minutes, and very pleasant walking in the shade by the river. We had a brilliant 4 days/nights and were so pleased we had booked the Palazzo Cardinal Cesi. Don't usually bother writing a review but the hotel deserves it. Thank you.
Highly recommend this hotel next to Vatican City and hop on hop off stops for sight seeing.
The Palazzo is stunning. The rooms are immaculate with every necessity. Breakfast was fabulous with a lot of variety. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Plus it’s very close to St. Peter’s and all the Baticsn attractions as well as within walking distance of others (if you like to walk and are able). Would definitely stay there again!
Claudia at the front desk was great, others not very good. One insulting. The breakfast was great and kitchen staff were amazing. The location was wonderful. Wine bar close by had good food and good service.
Very good Property
This is the place for the perfect stay in The Eternal City! The rooms are clean, pretty and a nice size. You are steps away from St. Peter's Basilica, marvelous shopping and great restaurants. If there are other areas of this magnificent city you want to visit, there is a taxi stand around the corner. From check in ( friendly smiles and help with luggage - Thank you, Patrick!) to arranging a car service or taxis - Thank you Claudia! to the amazing breakfast - AWESOME cappuccinos!!! The Palazzo Cardonal Cesi is where you want to stay for an amazing stay in Roma!
Room was very nice & clean, a little small but VERY convenient for visiting the Vatican
Wonderful experience.
This was a little gem of a hotel, very secluded and literally a stones throw from St Peters Square. It has a security entrance so no-one can walk in off the street and the staff were exceptional. There is someone on front desk 24/7 so it was no issue when we had to leave for the airport at 5am. They organised the taxi and even breakfast boxes to take with us so we had some food. The location is great for the Vatican and a beautiful walk of about 25-30 mins along the river to the centre of Rome but so much to see on the way. Piazza Navone is only about 15 minute walk, Castle Saint Angelo is about 5 minutes and there is no issue for transport if you don't want to walk. The only issue for anyone who might be taller or larger than us was the shower was small. This was no major issue for us but could be if you are very tall or solid. This may have just been our room so you might want to check. The beds were very comfortable and the room was always cleaned early and impeccable when we returned. You will enjoy your stay here.
This hotel was excellent! We stayed for four nights while in Rome and everything exceeded our expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful, assisting us with getting an idea of our location and surroundings. And let me tell you, that location is amazing! Seated just outside St. Peter’s Square, you are greeted with breathtaking views every time you enter and exit the building. Further, there was a complimentary breakfast every morning that was a nice start to the long days of exploring and visiting historical sites. The staff also helped us with arranging transportation to one of our tours, despite us needing it very early in the morning. Over all, I would highly recommend if you are coming to visit Rome and/or the Vatican.
Just an amazing stay at hotel Plazzo Cardinal Cesi. Staff were amazing . Delicious breakfast and the most amazing court yard. Can’t wait to go back..
Second time staying at the property. Convenient location if you want to stay near The Vatican. It's quiet and safe. Received complimentary snacks. Staffs are kind and helpful. Breakfast was substantial.
The hotel is literally in front of st peters square. The vatican! Location is amazing!! The hotel is very old and air condition does not work well. Staff is great and very helpful. Free breakfeast. Electricity went out on first night. But overall okay. Lots of restaurants all around.
Although rated as a 4-star hotel, there is limited food service available outside the excellent breakfast service. However, location is perfect and the hotel is brimming with character. The staff are excellent, extremely polite, courteous and helpful. Hotel is located a few minutes walk from the Vatican with walking access to other attractions in Rome and only a few minutes walk from the hop-on/hop-off bus route.
This hotel is very authentic and right by the Vatican. The management was helpful and kind. The rooms were nice and clean. The bathrooms are very small and the shower is tiny. We enjoyed it very much. The area around the hotel is very crowded with lots of travelers and garbage left around but the hotel was very clean.
Staying so close to the Vatican was great, plenty to see and many dining choices within a short walk.
I love this hotel. It’s the second time I’ve stayed here. Location is amazing, right on the doorstep of Saint Peter’s Square. Easy walk to a metro station. There is a lovely little garden in the hotel grounds. Continental breakfast is included and if you’re heading out sightseeing really early they’ll make you up a breakfast bag to take with you. Staff are exceptional, very helpful and friendly. This hotel is a great base for walking (or using the metro) to the many incredible sights of Rome.
Being on the door step of St Peter, it is great to visit the places and attend activities... The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The internal garden was beautiful.
This property is PERFECT for someone who wants to directly by the Vatican. I had book a 3 day stay months ago as a treat for when I finished walking 550 kilometers from Florence to Rome on the Way of St Francis. I was very dissatisfied at my shower situation. There was a 1$ flimsy shower curtain and a drain on the floor. The shower noodle would only stay in the holder when it was pointed at the wall. I’ve had a better bathroom situation when I was stay at free pilgrim Ostello along the way. There was no way to buy any extra refreshments during the day. I asked if I could get some coffee and p minutes before the scheduled 7:30 breakfast time and I was told no. Not possible. For the 3 days I stayed my bill was $700. The location was the only good factor about the accommodation. Very disappointed.
A few minutes walk to Vatican.
The location to the Vatican is terrific. Very nice place to stay in Rome.
It is a hidden gem. Although it is so close to the Vatican once you walk through the main doors you enter a beautiful tranquil garden. The staff is so friendly and helpful and the breakfast is over the top. I would stay at this hotel again and have recommended it to my friends already.
Nice , excellent ubication , block from the Vatican
Overnight Stay
Great location. We wanted to be near the Vatican and it is right out the door. Hotel is nice and the room was comfortabel just smaller than expected and bathroom is very tight. Needs to add a note on how to work window shades. Excellent Wifi.
Super convenient location and great property. The inside is clean, safe, and beautiful. It’s a 2 minute walk to the Vatican and was a easy check in and check out process. I would highly recommend this location.
It is a great location, steps from Saint Peters Square. Very charming hotel, good breakfast, friendly staff. I had some issues with the wifi and lack of communication between reception and my room when asking for support. The selling feature is also the courtyard, it is so beautiful.
it met my needs. thank you
Within easy walking distance from St. Peter’s Square, <2 minutes. Beautiful hotel! Friendly/helpful staff.
A/C needs to work better. Very hot. Would have liked a better area for sitting and drinking coffee in the evenings. Location for sight seeing was fantastic
As close as you can get to St Peter's without sleeping with the Pope.
Excellent location, but small rooms.
It is right next to the Vatican, so there isnt much traffic when you leave the hotel. Also there are guards on the Street making the area safe at night. The Hotel is also has a buzz in feature for the added security. The Main bus route/trains are a bit away but thats the price you pay being next to the Great Vatican City.
We reserved this hotel last minute around 9 pm because we missed a train and arrived to check in. The website on orbitz said we had until midnight to check in and when we arrived the doors were shut. We rang the buzzer and called and no one answered. We even asked an Italian speaker with an Italian phone to call the number by the door and they said the hotel had closed. We had to walk around and find a new hotel to stay at instead.
Hello???? This reservation was cancelled. Trip was cancelled. Familiar with the COVID Pandemic??? This property is actually tiring to charge me for a cancelled trip due to COVID 19???!!
Friendly and very helpful staff, fantastic location, interesting building with attractive enclosed garden.
The property was next to the Vatican City It was a very nice hotel the buffet breakfast was excellent
Staff was wonderful! In close proximity to the Vatican.
nice overall excpet for sound isolation
prime location, nice service but poor sound isolation that we can guests next door even snored all night .
Staff are very friendly, only thing unsatisfied is they don’t provide body lotion in washroom.
The staff at this hotel is one of the best things about thenplace. They are friendly, kind. Helpful and genuinely interested in making your stay as pleasant as possible. The location can not be beat if you are wishing to spend time at the Vatican
You are in walking distance to St. Peters Square, The Vatican, a lot of restaurants and the subway. The staff is very friendly and helpful. When in Rome again, i will stay at Palazzo Cardinal Cesi.
The place is wonderful! It is secure and the location. Is amazing. You come out the front door and you are at the Vatican. It is located closely to all the main tourist site in room. It was a great choice.
Loved the lobby decor. Loved the breakfast which was included. Loved the location so close to the Vatican. I thought the walls were thin and transmitted the sounds of other guests.
The property was more than i expected. Rooms where great and the most comfortable bed I've ever been in. The whole property was like staying at a sanctuary place. I felt the whole Rome experience. At its most.
Great services!
Bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. Room was small. No view, two windows were facing another building/ windows. The road noize was very loud, woke us up every time when car was driving by on paved road.
Lovely stay! Brilliant location and staff, especially Christiano were all excellent.
Great location Tiny room. Uncomfortable shower. Very mediocre breakfast witsame uneaten food served several days in a row
Great location; convenient for the Vatican and local sites. The staff were friendly and accommodating.
We loved the close walking distance to the Vatican. The street noise was bothersome at time, but overall, exceptional.
Its close proximity to the Vatican and the hospitality of the staff.
Open coffee and breakfast earlier - especially on a canonization day!
I think a refrigerator shoul be in the room, and also should provide water to the customers and lotion, everything elsem was ok
Great location!!! It was clean. and close to Vatican.
This hotel is in a perfect central location close to everything.
Right next to ST.Peters Basilica ,Clean neighbourhood lots of restaurants.
Exceptional service by 24-hour staff. Location is just what I wanted.
Close to the Vatican The breakfast is to early and to short
Great location, beautiful building, simple but comfortable rooms. Bed was a bit old, big dips in it. Breakfast window is tight and if you don't get in early there's not a lot left. Also a hotel in Rome needs decent coffee, not terrible American style drain water.
At the very entrance to St. Peter’s square. Perfect location for a visit to the Vatican.
The lighting in the room was poor. Too many switches . Spent too much time figuring them out. It was a nice , quiet property. Breakfast food was good.
The location and staff are excellent although they company needs to hire more staff to continue to serve customers.
Most positive: just feet from the Vatican. Least positive: smallest shower EVER
What an amazing location right beside the Vatican. Beautiful 500+ year old monastery and delightful B and B. The interior garden was a peaceful retreat from the busy street outside and a welcome after a day of sightseeing.
Location was great. Bathroom very tight. Shower had folding doors and was barely wide enough to move in and I am not big. Staff pleasant and in formative
The location was perfect to be near St. Peter's Square and some good restaurants. The room and the bathroom were relatively small but they were very clean. Even though we were at a busy location the rooms were quiet. Breakfast buffet was well done. The courtyard was charming but it was too chilly to sit out in early May. The staff was helpful and mostly pleasant, although not overly solicitous as you would experience in a luxury hotel.
Magnificent building with a great inner courtyard.Great location. Downside. Breakfast only served until 9.00am and was cleared promptly at 9.00am with no exception!!!
LOCATION!!
You cannot stay any closer to the Vatican than here !! But you're staying in a palazzo with an interior courtyard, so you really dont hear much street noise. The room was ridiculously small, but the beds were very comfortable. The staff was very nice and we enjoyed sharing a conversation with them. Small rooms are trumped by the great staff and amazing location!
The location of the hotel was excellent. The reception staff were extremely helpful. The breakfast choices were good and our room was pleasant. My only criticism was not having facilities for making hot drinks. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would certainly go back in the future
the Hotel has bags of individual character and is perfectly located. My only criticisms would be that the bedrooms are rather small (I had to check to make sure that I was actually in a superior double) and also the breakfast is rather underwhelming although perfectly edible.
Location..decent breakfast Charging for water bottle??
This former palace of a Cardinal is generally excellent provided one accepts that they do not do meals except breakfasts. Their breakfasts are superb. Rooms are small but well appointed. The only drawback being the ridiculously small shower cubicles - these are unnecessarily tiny as there is room in the shower rooms for more sensibly sized units. The staff are helpful, multilingual, polite & in every way excellent. The hotel is scrupulously clean, well polished & quiet (provided one keeps the windows shut) cool due to a sensible combination of renaissance building design & air con. Ideally located for the Vatican. We have used this hotel twice & would be happy to do so again.
Did not like that you could not get coffee, sodas, or ice at your leisure. No coffee makers in the room nor access to coffee or beverages or snacks unless going out on the street to get them. Shower door entry do small I could not get in it.
Beautiful courtyard and great location next to Vatican.
They moved us to a larger room and gave us a bottle of champagne. It is a very lovely hotel.
Staff was great location from 1-10 was a 10 very safe . Rooms were clean and the staff took care of us on any requeats
Excellent location, accommodating staff, wonderful breakfast buffet, large rooms with comfortable beds. The staff always worked to meet our needs and made the hotel feel like a home away from home.
The hotel was adequate as we did not spend much time in the room. Great location. However, for a 4 star it was lacking in several areas. The shower was tiny and not suitable for an average sized man. No mirror above dressing table, no tea/coffee making facilities, no English speaking tv channels. All of which are expected in 4 star. The room was warm and bedding was clean with room tidied each day. Breakfast was acceptable and enjoyable. This hotel was very quiet and peaceful but perhaps more appropriate for customers looking to embrace a more spiritual experience in the Vatican. Unfortunately our experience was affected by so many rough sleepers in close proximity to the hotel. When discussing with staff our difficulty with the small shower we were told “ you don’t come to Rome for a shower” Hardly the response we expected!!
Awesome location, safe and private despite being at the base of Saint Peter’s Square. This was especially important as we were two women visiting Rome. Rooms have marble floors and are extremely clean. Bathrooms are small but efficient. I can’t say enough great things about the cleaning staff and front desk staff.
Every thing was brilliant, but the pillows were like rocks
Great spot
Had a wonderful time staying at this hotel. Close to the Vatican and within walking distance of many spots. Evelin was amazing with check in, detailing hotel history and hotspots in the area. Loved the ability to have food and wine in the courtyard area! What a fabulous jewel to stay at!
Very peaceful and excellent location in terms of proximity to St.Peter’s basilica and Borgo Pio!
Next door to The Vatican
Calm, pleasant and clean environment, literally next door to the Vatican. Staff lovely and really helpful. Rooms adequate size, bathroom compact, small shower area. No tea/coffee making facilities in room. Breakfast choice reasonable with fresh products. Would stay here again.
Very excellent experience for us. One night only, but great stay. Room was exceptionally clean. A couple of loose tiles on the floor, but no big deal. Front desk staff was outstanding. Couldn't beat the location. The center courtyard was amazing and an oasis from the business of Saint Peter's square. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful
This is always a wonderful place to stay when we are in Rome. They helped us to arrange transport from the airport to the hotel even though it was a very busy time. The only thing that is sad is that they have canceled their dinner/cocktail service in the evening.
