The perfect place to be for a stay in beautiful Tirano. Andrea was great! Breakfast was lovely. Nothing bad tonsay
Andrea, our host is very warm and attentive. He gave us good recommendations where to have good wine and dinner. We will definitely come back here if we visit Tirano again and will recommend it to our family and friends.
This review is long overdue. We traveled from America to Italy a few months ago and had planned to take the Bernina Express from Tirano. Our group of 7 was delayed getting to the hostel. Throughout that time, Andrea communicated with me and was very patient. We arrived past 10 pm, but Andrea waited for our group to arrive and was so accommodating. The next morning we had our train at 8am, so he got up early and had transportation waiting to take us all down to the train station so that we did not have to walk in the rain or stress about missing the train. We did not even ask him to do all this, yet he was so kind to make sure we were comfortable even if it was only one night. We were so touched by his kindness and hospitality. Absolutely recommend this hostel. 10/10. We wish Andrea the very best.
I recently spent two nights at Ostello del Castello in Tirano, mainly to catch the Bernina Express, like many other tourists. I made a quick decision and acknowledged that I didn’t plan my stay in Tirano very well. Nonetheless, it turned out to be a delightful surprise. The place is enchanting, with a fairy-tale atmosphere and meticulous attention to detail. It stirred up feelings of nostalgia and made me reflect on my ancestors who migrated to Brazil a long time ago, as I now had the chance to visit from the opposite direction. I felt like at home!!! Andrea was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, providing excellent local recommendations that made me wish I had stayed longer. The place was impeccably clean (which I highly value), great breakfast and a very good italian "cappuccione", and featured a stunning terrace perfect for stargazing and vie to the mountains around Tirano. I highly recommend it and look forward to return, perhaps with my family, to discover more of the stunning mountain area and maybe "parlando Italiano" a little bit. Grazie mille Andrea for all your hospitality! Monica ;)
Host was very accommodating. 12 minute walk from train, away from where most hotels are in Tirano. Beautiful property. Local wine maker just a few feet away from property, which makes it even nicer. There is no air conditioning but there were fans in the room. This is a norm in Italy either way. Breakfast was good and at a good price.
My wife and two children went to this hotel and they had the best experience with the host. Is a small hotel, it has a great location since you can walk from the train station. A sincere admiration at the gardens and at the person that cares of them. High praises to la mamma. One of the best, if not the best, of this Europe trip.
At first it felt like a bit of a walk from the train station but it’s really only about 10 minutes. Of course in the summer heat after a long train ride it feels a bit hotter. From the outside the place doesn’t scream how great it is on the inside. And the views from the terrace above the property are pretty great. The renovations are so well done. Just a great place. Note our room did not have AC and I was worried but it was fine. We all slept great in a 3 bed bunk room in July. . Breakfast was also simple but extremely inexpensive and hit the spot.
The property is beautiful restored and super clean and comfortable. The host is a super welcoming and so kind. Breakfast was yummy too.
Tirano - hidden gem B&B
This is a hidden gem, with excellent personal service! It is also on a high point, so you get an overview over the city. Warmly recommended! 😊
Our group of 6 was simply looking for a place to stay the night before our early ride on the Bernina Express but Andrea and this lovely hotel made it a Thursday night to remember. The view from the high patio in the afternoon, the twinkling fairy lights that greeted us when we walked back from a wonderful dinner in town and the outstanding morning breakfast that was made early to accomodate our schedule all contributed to our desire to teturn for a longer stay. The "family room" comfortably accomodated us with modern amenities but also with a charm that transported us back in time. I encourage everyone to plan on more than one night in this wonderland.
Wish we had stayed longer!
Had a fantastic stay. We had the welcome you would expect from a small family run hostel, but with the benefits of any small hotel. Four of us, including two adult children in their 20s, shared the quadruple room and had everything we needed. Breakfast was amazing value, with a good range of local products including meats, cheese, breads, cereal, yoghurts, sweet pastries and cakes. Andrea made us feel very welcome and gave us recommendations for where to eat in the evening and where to stop on our train trip back to St Moritz this morning. We came and went by train and the hostel, in the old historic part of the town, was an easy 10 minute walk from the station. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here.
Property owner Andrea was extremely helpful and accommodating
Had a wonderful stay at Ostello del Castello Tirano. Andrea the host went above and beyond during my stay giving information about Tirano and helping me with the train. Very peaceful and relaxing one night stay. The room was very pleasant with gorgeous views and a delicious breakfast, which I would recommend.
Amazing ..
Hidden gem in Northern Italy - Charming Tirano
We were merely passing thru Tirano on our way to Milano. We wanted a place w/ good reviews that was close to train station. When we got to Tirano, we mapped the hotel. It was raining lightly at the time, & to our dismay, the map showed a 12 min walk that was moderately uphill. We gritted our teeth & began the soggy walk, dragging our suitcases over ancient cobblestones. My wife was a little upset w/herself because our accommodations were much further than she had thought. But…. Once we arrived at this jewel of a hotel, we were blown away by the vision that the owner (Andrea) had for this ancient building. The remodel he did was spectacular. We got a very real sense of the original building, yet it also conveyed a sense of modern comfort. Architectural details were magnificent. His contractors were truly artisans & his choices in style and materials were extremely well thought out & executed. Andrea was extremely helpful with our luggage & had a wonderful sense of humor. We really appreciated hearing about the history of what was his grandmother’s home & his ambitious project to expand & remodel it. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful & was a great value. Andrea called a cab in the morning to get us to train station. This was extremely quick and convenient. Fare for us was 10€. Well worth it! His recommendation for a cab proved fortuitous. Our train was canceled & driver took us to nearby Sondrio to catch a train that allowed us to make our connection in Milano
Andrea, the owner is fantastic. He took the time to show us the view from the terrace - Alps and vineyards. When my daughter was feeling under the weather, he was kind - and caring. We would love to go back!
The Host is very courteous & helpful The view from behind the hotel is Spectacular
We had such an amazing stay here. Andrea was so accommodating and truly made us feel welcomed. While we had a short stay, it will be one we remember forever. Grazie!
Outstanding experience. It was perfect for our family of 5. Beautiful hotel, wonderful service. The owner was incredibly helpful. One of our best dinners in Italy just down the street. Breakfast was very good too. Outstanding Bernina Express experience. $20 taxi ride was arranged door to door.
This building is amazing! The owner will give you the history and show you around. It is quiet and so cozy. Loved the bidet. Breakfast was basic but quality was excellent. Easy 10 minute walk into town. Wish we could have stayed longer! It was like living in a fairy tale.
Well preserved. Excellent mix of traditional and modern.
Wonderful place, full of character, an absolute gem. Beautiful views and balcony an added extra. Close to Old Town, and walking distance to vineyards. Andreas, the owner, was friendly, and very helpful. Breakfast was superb. Would stay again, only longer.
Very welcoming and cozy; staff took a personal interest in our stay and our conveniences.
Run don’t walk. BEST!!!!
AMAZING! Can’t say enough about this little gem. Arrived late at night, in the rain and being lost and weary, my 23 year old son and I were THRILLED when we met Andrea (who met us outside to ensure we found our way). The inn could not be more charming, modern amenities with old world charm, completely remodeled in 200 year old farm house. Family run. Andrea gave us the BEST advice for our Bernini train adventure to St Moritz. Can’t say enough! We will be back for sure and will recommend this to everyone!
Was great place. Owner even helped my wife up the stairs with her one bag. Superior service
A Wonderful Host and Stay
What a wonderful place. We loved this accommodation and in part wished we had arrived a little earlier and had been able to stay a little longer but we were booked on the early morning Bernina Express. Andrea the host was attentive and kind and provided fabulous advice on places to dine. A 10 minute walk from the station in close proximity to the Old Town, supermarkets and restaurants made for a very convenient stay. Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely loved this place. The staff who showed us around was so kind and warm that it made us feel right at home. It was an easy walk from the train station and not far from good dining. Very nice place.
Great views. No reservation giving overall 5 rating
Must stay here when in Tirano!
From the moment of check-in, the owner/host greeted us very warmly and helped us with our bags. He went on to give us a lovely tour of his incredible property. It’s a charming renovated Castelló with a great history. It’s perfect for families, as it has terraces, toys, sports equipment and an area to play soccer and basketball. My boys loved it! He also gave us recommendations on where to have dinner and where to site see. (Everything is in walking distance) After a good nights rest, we awoke to a scrumptious breakfast and were assisted with getting to the station (3 minute drive) to catch the Bernina Express! We plan on returning with friends to this wonderful hidden gem in Tirano! If you are passing through.. don’t miss out! Grazie mile to the host!
We stayed here one night, and we wished we had stayed longer. This place is magical and so unique like something we had never seen before. The host was also really sweet and helpful. If we ever end up back in Tirano we will definitely stay there again. Breakfast pastries were also delicious.
We very much enjoyed our stay here in June 2023. Free transportation was provided by the hotel when requested to and from the train station. The hotel is an short walk to the old town which has plenty of restaurants to choose from. The hotels itself is in a beautifully restored large original home in a very pleasant setting. The beds were comfortable and windows could be opened for fresh air and adequate cooling. The owner is wonderful and gave us great information about Tirano as well as our subsequent train trip to Pontresina. We would highly recommend a stay here!
This was a 500 year old property that had been renovated by family. This was a calling for the host not just a business. I highly recommend for the price. The internet was a little erratic but maybe that was a good thing.
Andrea was a wonderful host from check in to dining and touring suggestions. The Ostello has a mountain too view of the sunset easily accessible which Andrea took the time to show me. Bed and shower very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of options. An easy walk to the center and the Basilica. Grazie Andrea!
Book it!
Wonderful check in with the owner Andrea. Very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The room was lovely as well as the outside areas to sit and enjoy the beautiful view and countryside.
Must Stay in Tirano - AMAZING!
This place is a GEM! Do not pass this up when in Tirano. Andrea is a wonderful host who aims to make your stay more of a home than a hotel. It has wonderful amenities and the grounds are exciting and full of history. It is equally modern and old, giving you everything you need for an authentic Italian hotel experience.
Excelent
This is a magical place. The owner and host offers his help with every little detail you need to know about the zone. And unforgettable experience.
Really charming property. Excellent staff that gave a great history.
Amazing and unique place. Hosts were super attentive and you felt like at home, really well taken care of. And on top of that the breakfast was amazing!
One not to miss
Great place, great hosts made us very welcome. Good value for money. We would readily stay there again when visiting Tirano
Great host, great breakfast and nice environment.
First, I want to commend our host, Andrea. He is very friendly, helpful and he showed us the nice restaurants in town which is only a 5-min walk away. When we encountered a personal difficulty outside, we called him and he went out of his way to help us sort things out. Even after we left (we had a 3-night stay there), he texted us and asked how had been our trip so far. We are very grateful for his genuine care and concern. Second, the breakfast he served was par excellence. It was sumptuous and the coffee was very good. It was great value for money. I was thinking he must be losing money for the 7 Euro per head he charged for the breakfast. Third, the hotel (more like a B&B) is very cosy and the living room/lobby is very quaint and Italian. I loved it. The bedroom is clean, sizeable and we did not feel cramped in. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. There was constant hot water in the shower. The best part is to view the building from the outside in the night. It is gorgeously beautiful. I highly recommend this Ostello. Two minor drawbacks: there was no on site car park but there was a free open carpark 150m away - no issue with security; the wifi in my room was a little weak - I had to get close to the window to ensure good wifi reception.
Tradition transformed
Beatifully restored and transformed agricultural property on the hillsides of Tirano in the charminng Vallentina region. Very nice and wellcoming reception.
Fantastic hotel and even more fantastic host!
Fantastic stay in super rustic yet modern old farmhouse. Nothing to fault the hotel or Andrea the owner who could not have been more attentive or helpful. Only downside was the insect / midge bites from our meals sat outside at the local restaurants and that is something that even Andrea couldn't control!
Fantastic hotel. exceptional service. Had a great stay
Beautiful converted old farm buildings that have been in the same family for generations. Very relaxing, spacious and well located. Rooms very well appointed. Very welcoming host. Excellent breakfast. Games/toys for children.
Felt like home
Very different from the usual hotels and cut out from the busy roads and noise. Feels a lot like a gradma’s home (indeed it was!) and the hosts were always around to help with a smile. That’s what makes it a memorable stay.
Lovely place to stay in Tirano
Lovely owner and beautiful house full of character. Well signposted, so you won't get lost. Plenty of information about the local area and suggestions of where to eat. Would definitely recommend.
Recommended overnight stop for Bernina Express
A very warm welcome to this lovely hotel with simple but comfortable rooms in a beautifully converted old building. 15 mins walk from the station for those getting on/off the Bernina Express railway, as we had. Also recommend the Parravicini restaurant at the bottom of the hill.
B&B in Tirano
Andreas has been so helpful and courteous to us. He’s been very helpful with recommendations for restaurants and the structure is so quaint and charming! He does a very nice breakfast assortment in the morning as well. I’d come back in a heartbeat and would recommend it highly.
Great historical hotel
Beautiful old building in a nice quiet neighborhood. The owner is on site and very friendly with great knowledge and recommendations for the area.
Fabulous Hotel! Stay Here!!!!!!!
I booked into this hotel for 2 nights as part of a surprise trip for my husband (I booked to take the Bernina Express from Tirano as a day trip) and we were super sad to leave! We had the warmest of welcomes and were looked after beyond even highest expectations! The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are fantastic; our family room was so well-catered for! They really have thought of everything!! Even down to a stash of toys to occupy the kids - which our 3 year old was excited for! The care and attention to detail is so great, and you receive a really excellently-managed “personalised” experience that’s absolutely not overbearing and intrusive from the hotel’s owners. The hotel is a couple of minutes walk from the main road in the town and less than 10 minutes walk to the station if guests are doing the Bernina route, like us. We loved it here and wouldn’t hesitate for a second to book again if we are in the region. I’ll be recommending it to everyone! It’s a brilliant place to stay! If you’re going to Tirano - stay here!!!!
Loved It
Fantastic, if we had the time would have stayed longer :) :) Lo
Beautifully refurbished former family home
Andre really made us feel welcome. He goes above and beyond with his warm hospitality. He gave us the history of the region and the Ostello, then we sat on the terrace and enjoyed local wine while admiring the amazing views of Tirano and the mountains. It's a lovely hotel in a restored family home. There was obviously a lot of attention to detail in the refurbishment, and this care is also shown in providing amenities for guests.
Absolute perfection!
Ostello del Castello is an absolutely amazing Hotel. It is situated at a high vantage point overlooking the beautiful city of Tirano. The hotel has so much history provided to us by our wonderful hosts Andrea and Alessia, the property has amazing sights to see before you even venture out to explore Tirano. This was our first stop in Italy after taking the Berina Express train down the Alps. I must say we couldn't have been more impressed by the hotel, however it is the warm embrace of the hosts that quickly turned this into one of my favorite places of all time to rest. Thank you so much for the absolutely amazing stay, it will make it hard for other places to even compare. Also trust Andrea on any local food advice he gives as our taste buds were tantilized by his amazing restaurant recommendations!!!
Lovely View!!
We had a wonderful experience here, we would definitely go back to stay !
Authentic Italian Experience
Ostello del Castello is an amazing little place just 5 minutes walk to the main piazza. The rooftop terrace offers spectacular views of the area, and the staff is ready to tell you the whole story of the establishment and nearby area, you just have to ask. Also, do not miss the "aperitivo" on the terrace with cold cuts, cheeses and local wine. A wonderful experience I would repeat and highly recommend.
Highly Recommended!
Our stay was amazing. I wish we could have stayed longer. Room was large, comfortable and clean. Great view of Tirano from the castle's ruins. Nice breakfast buffet and they serve the best cappuccino ever! I hope to return in the future.
Perfecto lugar y muy acogedor
Cozy and friendly accommodation in Tirano
Very cozy lodgings and friendly reception! We thoroughly enjoyed the spacious room and the nuce breakfast with homemade cakes. Thanks for your hospitality!!
Great stay at the Ostello del Castello
We stayed here as we were taking the Bernina Express. The owner was really welcoming and gave us lots of advice and recommendations on where to eat and visit. The hotel is in a quiet place and although only 5 mins walk to the train station you cannot hear the trains. It was immaculately clean and the mattress was really comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. We hope to return one day.
O hotel me atendeu perfeitamente.

Bello y comodo
Muy bello hotel, excelente atención personalizada, muy amables y atentos, habitación muy cómoda. Todo excelente…!!!
Super fantastic place with a lovely owner. The building is amazing and the history of the building is very interesting. A short walk from the train station, easy to find and well worth the small extra walk. Nice and quiet.
Zeer prettige omgeving om te verblijven!
Excelente servicio, André super amable, super atento.

Fantastic host, wonderful architecture.
It was amazing. The host, Andrea, is wonderfully kind and caring. The architecture is very unique and sits close to both the castle and the old town.
