Nice hotel, check in and out both running smooth.
Love its easy access to the shopping and dining.
The property is old, but the location is perfect - convenient to shopping, public transportation, and restaurants. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Overall good price for the quality.
Great location and hospitality
The staff at the hotel are very friendly
Hotel is very centrally located. You can almost walk to a lot of very nice shops and restaurants. Rooms are a little outdated but clean and comfortable
Very nice.

The property is dated and has smell of smoke even though it’s non smoking. The room is small and outdated. While we were waiting for taxi in the lobby, we were told we can take a picture of our kids in the lobby, found it’s weird. There are lot of choices in Shanghai for nice hotels. Won’t come back next time.
Nice place
The hotel has a lot of history and is located in the former French concession area. The location is great if you want to avoid the mass tourist centers around the People's Square and Nanjin Road. It is nice to walk around in the neighborhood, which is very accessible to a range of restaurants and upscale shopping malls. The hotel itself needs renovation. They have updated the elevator and the room key sends you directly to your floor, and the Japanese toilet is a big plus. However, the carpet needs to be swapped, the bed is not too comfortable, the sink is so low that I feel like I am breaking my back when I wash my face and I am only 5ft4. And the room is very small. For an Expedia VIP, I received zero benefit. They gave two packets of powdered cafe per day. It has been a long time since I stayed in a hotel without a simple coffee maker.
Good experience
Amazing place to stay if you are going to Shanghai for awhile. Lots of fun things to do near by and the hotel staff were excellent! Highly recommend!
nice place to stay
good location and friend attitude. no smoking smell
convenient location, wonderful staff, spacious rooms and variety amenities.
It’s a great stay in general, but it’s out of our expectation that they charged an extra breakfast buffet for my teenager even I already included him in the booking with the breakfast buffet term. That’s why I didn’t feel I enjoyed the VIP access at all which I should have.
Was impressed with the tennis club, and beautiful garden
I booked the hotel based on its location. The facility and the room were outdated. It could use an interior overhaul
Enjoy the hotel’s experience
The location is perfect , the transportation is convenient, the room is clean , the view from the room is beautiful , feel comfortable to stay in this hotel.
A good hotel at the good location.
It’s located central city, walking distance to mostly shopping centers, restaurants etc. staff are very helpful and friendly.
Front desk staff are so wonderful , great location!
Great place to stay. The breakfast was very good and friendly staff who are supportive with all of my queries. I will stay there again the future.
I like Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai because everything is good and comfortable.
Great stay! Nice room, staff friendly, super location. I t would have been nice if the towels were a bit more plush, but really it is quite a good hotel!
Overall good
I like how walkable the hotel is located near the attractions and eateries. The housekeeping maids were helpful when we needed help to locate missing a pair of spectacles. Although the hotel felt a bit old but I like that it is very clean.
convenient for food & shopping
Great service and convenient location.
I like the Old Town French style.
Room temperature can’t be adjusted, it is hot during day
A Japanese hotel set in the Japanese quarter of Shanghai. Absolutely beautiful art deco hotel. A hotel with is own charm consists of all Chinese staff. Great services as to be expected. Highly recommended.
Great location and good staff
The hotel is in the city center. It is close to everything.
the breakfast did not include as expected
Chose the hotel for the exclusive cookies that guests could buy without reservation. The cookies were delicious. The room was big, the garden was nice. A short walk from the subway.
The best property I have stayed in in more than 7 years of going to Shanghai. Great location, amazingly helpful staff and incredible restaurants
After staying at 2 previous hotel leading up to our we found it a terrible let down Firstly rooms are so small The 32sqm but most of this was taken up with bathroom Staff at check rude Was talking to another staff member about us on the phone and laughing thinking we did not understand Shanghai which we do !! So small room and rude check in staff Location is good close to line 1 subway and close to shops Thanks for reading my review
Hotel is great. The location is the perfect in Shanghai downtown.
Perfect location, nice staff, definitely recommend.
Good location and services
I stayed for 19 days ,very satisfied ,I will recommend to friends
Very good
Hotel is old ..Rooms smell and are not up to 5 star standards. The gym is horrible.Gym equipment is outdated and hotel tries and charge you for gym. Breakfest is aweful. Pastries are not fresh and the omelets arw not cool properly. This hitel is a low 3 star in my opinion.
Good location, well-maintained historical building in old French Concession, walking distance to variety of shopping and dinning places.
We just slept for 6 hours n left the hotel. So hard to give a quality comment. But for sure the location is great as the hotel is located in a shopping district
A classic choice at an excellent location in the city of Shanghai, entrenched in its history and culture, still in all it's glory after almost a hundred years. Fantastic service and accomodations, with a wide range of catering selection.
Great French style hotel
Great location & restaurant. True Shanghai experience.
The best of Shanghai
The Garden Hotel is my favorite place to stay in Shaghai. Old world charm with all the modern amenities. Can't be beat.
It was a great stay, only the breakfast is kind of beyond my imagination which was a bad experience.
Nice place with many amenities around , good and confortable room . Nela the Subway stations and shopping centers .
mr
It’s a quiet place, nice location in the city.
Rooms ok, staff friendly but eat somewhere else
Okura garden is in a good location close to transportation, shopping, and restaurants. It must have lovely gardens in the summer. Staff needs some training at the door services since this was lax. They do not help or hold doors. However, Lee as concierge and Rose restaurant staff are top-notch, very attentive and friendly. The rooms can feel a bit small & dated but once you stay you will see that it is quite comfortable and has many gems to make the stay comfortable. Enjoy great city views. With the coronavirus outbreak, it was a bit apocalyptic. Lots of hand sanitizer and face masks but obviously they were taking it seriously and ensuring safety. They did not take temperatures like the other hotels. No pool or gym and no compensation for this. We thought the breakfast was good and the price was ok. The staff are quite attentive and there are many options. We did not think dinners were worthy. Very pricey and not memorable. Instead, walk across to the Japanese restaurant by the Tim Hortons. Hotel had most expensive meals we had in China in 3 weeks and there was no flavor. We will pay for a good meal but we expect something worthwhile. The chocolate in the fridge is 33 yuan. Price gauging to the extreme. For tea in the main lobby you will pay over 300 yuan for 2 teas and an ice cream...so best to avoid. Beware of booking on hotels.com. The price changed when we booked. When I contacted they said the cancelation policy was already over so I am a bit of a skeptic.
i do not like Rose resaurant:i have to discuss to accept my card! all the rest i like a lot.
5 star lobby 2 star room 0 star bathroom
stayed total of 4 nights (in 2 check-ins), very good location, 4-5 min. walk to metro, lovely restaurants and coffee shops nearby, beautiful grand lobby, very accommodating staff, very good service, room appear to be well furnished.. but with stained carpets and filthy bathroom walls with black mold all over! I would carefully examine the room before accepting, unacceptable sub standard!
The hotel has a convenient location, only a few minutes away from subway station. The main shoping area is also a few mins away.
Very happy stay with Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai. I will be there stay again.
Jack
The service was excellent. I will back stay again.
Beautiful garden and space in the middle of Shanghai. Good proximity to subway and shopping district. Very good Japanese restaurants
Perfect. Helpful staff. Hotel a bit dated but very clean and well maintained. Concierge was knowledgeable a recommended many good restaurants nearby.
The air conditioning could not cool the room down any lower than 25.5 degrees C. That's almost 80 degrees F!
I lived in China for many years and stayed in more hotels than i can count. The Okura Garden Hotel is the best hotel i have stayed in. Beyond just beeing super orderly and clean and rendering perfect service, this hotel also has a great charme. This is the kind of unique hotel you wish for. Thank you very much for giving my family who stayed together with me this fantastic memory of Shanghai.
Beautiful property inside the lobby, the elevator view from the 30+ floor, and the domed stage in the garden. The staff was simply excellent!
I loved the old colonial building. It waso charming. The new tower etc were older but more than acceptable. Staff had amazing training. Food was great. Cafe etc were a bit over priced but such is shanghai. Amazing location. Walkabke to just about everything for food and shopping. Close to several metro lines. Loved the french concession area
Very nice hotel!
Very nice hotel. Very convenient location. Very friendly staff. Very happy customer!
Fallen from its former grandeur
The hotel is a mixed bag of old and new; great and not so great. Check in process - terrible. I waited in line for at least 30 minutes with average customer help time around 15 min. General service - service staff in the halls greeted you, like they would in Japan. Lounge food - the pastries and ice cream in the lobby area were very old. You can tell by its color that the food is not fresh. Rose Cafe - food is OK. Wait service was good. Cook service was bad. The cooking staff, especially at the egg cooking area during breakfast, was pretty rude. She basically greeted me with an annoyed face and asked "what do you want" Room - overall looked a bit old, but the great amenities. Nice washlet, great quality showers, nice fixtures. The bed was VERY comfortable. Room cleaning staff - Excellent! They were very proactive. I left a do-not-disturb sign. When I walked back to my room, they noticed and asked if I needed anything. Concierge - so so helpful. Asked for directions and they said they don't know. Blah! Install a robot instead. My interpretation - Seeing the name Okura, you'd expect great service, but the service was inconsistent. I think it might have to do with the training. At some hotels, the staff seem to love their job, I did not feel that here and it shows through its customer service. The effort to upgrade rooms is commendable. Great job on the room amenities. Hotel is positioned as a mass-tourist hotel and not for business customers.
Location, quiet and service was great, I will definitely go back!
atomospheres for the guest was good.no long que made me feel secured in china.but, the accomodation seemed a bit old and amenity looked cheap.teeth brush should be put in the room.
Condition feedback
I was stay this hotel twice. Both time the washlet all cannot work. It is too old. The blind in the toile also cannot work well. It is rusty and get stuck.
Good service, helpful staff, rooms were clean and odourless, room controls were working and responsive, air-conditioner had no issues
My choice!
Lovely garden. Quiet and relaxed. Attentive and discreet service with Japanese touch. Nice clean rooms. Definitely my favourite in Shanghai.
Still #1
Excellent. Had not been there in 8 yrs and still excellent and charming
All Good
Pro: Great location, good service, room with a garden view, comfortable bed, free parking, gift shops, PH bar and a few restaurants. Cons: None I will go back.
Staff were all very pleasant and helpful............
Terrific location in the heart of the old French Concession, close to the Metro, and easy access to the airport. But the property is old and the rooms are a bit dated. Amenities like the gym, business center, the breakfast room and restaurants all feel like they've seen better days. BUT biggest drawback was the WiFi (not the Great Firewall, but the hotel's WiFi...). Coverage was spotty throughout the building. Speeds were slow. And the signal was always coming in and out. Very frustrating if you are there to do business.
Located in a decent and quiet neighborhood, good service and very clean and well maintained hotel.
I loved the japanese toilet. Very good central location.
Japanese Perfection
A nice stay just breakfeast was a bit below standard i would expect from an Okura property but overall all good
Beautiful original structure and gardens. Great location.
Best place for japanese
It was okay. But it not best place for who doesn't speak Chinese or Japanese. Most of staffs are familer with Japanese but not english. :(
Lovely Art Deco French Concession building featuring a large and beautiful garden. Overall, the staff are very courteous. However, be wary if English is your only langauge as only about 20% (1/5) speak English at a conversational level. This was frustrating when problems occured. Just something to consider as you may prefer an American/British/European chain. The breakfast buffet caters for European style breakfast (toast, cereal, pasteries, bacon, eggs etc.) well. A chef is on hand to make omelettes on request. It's a well maintained and very pleasant hotel featuring lovely views (should you get a garden view). I enjoyed my stay there.
Will stay there again everything was perfect the Rose restaurant was very helpful great Japanese coffee
Fantastic hotel, views, location and food.
The Okura Hotel is magnificent. The staff are superb and welcoming as soon as you step in. This is an historic and grand place 1block away from an upscale shopping area of Shanghai. Accommodations and food were excellent and I highly recommend the hotel. We will be back!
I love to stay here every time I come to Shanghai. Great staff, great facilities, great location. They always make me feel at home.
Wonderful hotel in the northeast end of the French Concession but convenient to line 1 and 10. In town for several days and traveling in and out of Shanghai by train, this was a great location. Close by the IAPM mall with many great restaurants, but the food in the hotel is quite good too. The Oasis area was a great spot for tea and a few meetings. Will definitely come back. Only negative was trying to change my departure date which took a ridiculous amount of back and forth with Expedia and the hotel. Terrible system to deal with any reservation changes and needs to be improved!!

Everything was very happiest and very good servers
Highly recommended
Okura Garden is my favourite hotel in Shanghai. It has an interesting history, stylish architecture with a nice garden and impeccable service. It is centrally located and is easy to get to places. I have tried all the restaurants inside the hotel ~ they are all good and value for money. I highly recommend this hotel.
Good location and view but...
Good location, near the underground #1 and shopping area. The room is big, clean and comfort. Free bottled water is provided everyday. My room is on 20th floor; the view is the front entrance and the garden. However, the condition of mattress is less desirable. The centre is not very elastic.
very good!
Was a pleasant staying n will come back.
Comfortable n clean. room was quiet with good insulation. staff well trained, polite with good service. Excellent location.
A good deal in Shanghai
Great location, great services , clean rooms, close to subway stations, malls and restaurants.
Hotel staff are very helpful and coutiers. The conceire and bell captions desk is extremely helpful. I forgot to bring one of my old cell phone chargers and one of them let me borrow one for my trip. Breakfasts are great at both the buffet and the Japanese restaurant who had a great juice to start,
Very close to metro station.. Nice and clean area with a lot of restaurants and shops nearby.. Highly recommended..
NOT SO CLEAN LIKE A TYPICAL JAPANESE HOTEL. DIRTY ROOMS, BAD SERVICES.
Very few number of consents. Hard to find staffs fluent in English / Japanese.
The Okura Garden hotel in Shanghai is perfectly situated bordering three districts so it’s convenient to get around. The hotel breakfast is a feast and has many options. The rooms are spacious and have good city views.
Nice to stay again
unique location in city center...nice staffs and huge garden view, ignore a little bit "historical" room conditions over all
OLD!
I was at the Okura for a week for business, and was very disappointed in my stay. A night cost me about RMB2,000, and they wanted me to pay for the gym. I've stayed in so many hotels in my life and not once have I had to pay to use the gym. The room was VERY old and the bed and pillows were terrible. The carpet felt dirty and I didn't want to walk around without slippers at all. The only good thing about this place is the location... maybe this was THE hotel once upon a time, but definitely not anymore, won't be staying here again.
Great location. Excellent staff. Beautiful property.
