Bad 👎 the bad have holes 🕳 to many drugs people in the hotel
Property is close to transportation and civic center
The property was really really bad dirty dirty dirty graffiti all on the room walls sink broken refrigerator broken microwave broken bed broken holes in the drapes holes in the sheets and bedspread I took a video and pictures so I could submit them on my report I have another room reserved for the 27th of September I'm going to cancel it
Decent
Quite easy reservation
No operational Internet
My stay at this hotel was fine for a kind of place that it is. Low budget. However the Internet failed to operate for three days even being given a passcode. The service was non-functioning. My only complaint. Even a low budget place should have Internet
The property was in a great location
Creep Mob Five Star!!
Staff is with the business, they were accommodating as well as lenient with us in certain situations in which I was extremely grateful for. Two more things I got a pet peeve with all bugs roaches etc...And I saw none of this there. And the immediate neighborhood is perfect, you can go one way and it's gorgeous, walk the other way and your right in the one stop shop hood!! This place is fa sholey recommended.
Good
Together roaches everywhere from the shower to behind my bed by my sink it's very not clean there were things under the bed where people haven't swept at their housekeepers as well as they have bad customer service
Some rooms have coffeemakers, refrigerators, towels, or smoke detectors, or hair in the sink, but many don't. Your best guess as to which you will get. Many of the guests can be quite noisy.
No control over unruly guests. Staff gives out room keys to strangers whose name is not on the room reservation which is completely unsafe and illegal. The smoke detectors in the rooms have been removed from all rooms which is unsafe and a safety violation. There would be no way to smoke or fire in the rooms. This is supposed to be a no pet property but there are always dogs inside of the property that bark all hours of the day. There’s constantly smoking inside of the rooms. Walls, appliances, curtains bedding and towels are all completely filthy with stains and strong urine stains. I’ve had to clean my room several times after check in and it’s really annoying. I travel back and forth from LA to SF every week and stay here because of the convenience and it’s really concerning and unfortunate to see the value of the property going downhill. I really hope things get batter
Manager is great
Thank you for accommodating me. I appreciate the improvements. Will stay again the next time I’m in San Francisco. Thank you!
Old and Cheap.
The building is old and you can hear a lot of the noise outside your room. A manager actually walked into my room by mistake around midnight, waking me up. It is a cheap place to stay if you are on a budget.
Not a clean place.
There was no window pane so I was unable to shut the window.
First room they gave me had holes in walls. the second room was fine except i could hear the conversation of the people next door and they were talking and having sex until 4:30am. I had to go to the person incharge of hotel at the time and asked to talk to these people. They ended up leaving. the place was dirty and it smelled like crap. the rooms were cold and no heater around. didn't like it at all.
Change the sheets
It was okay nothing special
The neighborhood seemed quite deteriorated, with a noticeable presence of individuals engaged in drug use, which left us feeling uneasy. There was also very loud music being played from a car at the earlier hours in the morning. While the room met our expectations, it was disappointing that there were no towels, and were never delivered, even though we were told they were in the laundry and they would bring them to our room. However, aside from this issue with the towels, the staff were friendly and accommodating, allowing us to store our bags during the day.
Untidy and rundown hotel but the property overall was fine for what we paid and the location.
Just wanted convenience
You get what you pay for... Its in a convenient location though.
Peace
Not any places to eat mear.
I give it a five star it just need restrooms insid
I had an amazing experience the staff was great the room was clean and besides being in a high traffic area everything was fine.
At this point, it shouldn't be considered as a hotel... I stayed in 3 different rooms during my stay and it was always the same observation : dirty, noisy and smelly. Orignally planned to stay 4 nights but in the end i painfully only spent 2 nights before running out of this establishment. Honestly the worst place i have stayed at in my life Only pro : staff was comprehensive and friendly
It was pretty grubby, tho you get what you pay for.. It was super noisy from other tenants, got woken up all through the night from people screaming and yelling.. You hear everything there
Very kind staff and very convenient
Good location
Truth be told, although the staff was friendly, the place was loud and dirty. A fine place to stay if you are looking for a cheap place and don’t care about cleanliness or noise.
horrible the owners were very rude
Nice alternative for the price
Great staff made up for the facilities. A relative bargain in a very expensive coty.
The staff at the front desk were very nice but the rest of my experience was less than ideal. The lock on my room door was very flimsy and felt as though anyone could get it. The room was very dirty. The refrigerator and microwave had dust and sticky residue on them. The blanket on the bed had burn marks on them and the whole room smelt like urine. The communal bathroom had super sticky floors but they were cleaner than the bedroom. The other tenants were super loud all night long. They were playing super loud music, yelling at each other, and you could here them walking up and down the hall talking to each other. I only managed to sleep a couple hours the one night I stayed here. The price is nice and the staff are nice but I would not recommend staying here if you want a stress free and clean environment.
Friendly customer service
Bugs in the bed, there was a used band-aid on the quilt when I arrived to the room, the microwave looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in 73 business years, the sheets had been used by prior guests to put out cigarettes/weed or God knows what, there was dog hair on my pillows and sheets upon arrival, the entire hotel smelled like piss, the sink was so old and run-down that whenever I used it, the water just went directly to the floor, there was graffiti on the bed frame, other hotel-stayers were clearly on crack, heroine or the likes. Overall, I genuinely feared for my life during my stay here and felt like I was in a prison.
They canceled my reservation by themselves without my permission. After I arrived the hotel, they told me they didn’t have the empty room. Then I went to the hotel they recommended, it was so terrible. So noisy and too dirty.
The walls were so thin you could hear people in the next room talking, no soap for the shower, no coffee for the coffee maker. For the price I would have expected better linens, nicer bed spread and at least some soap!
Small rooms and awkward bathrooms but I only stayed there to sleep not to hangout
pretty good
Not too bad of a place / above average
Great little spot reasonable!!!
Great price....quiet....great TV...Great location, just far enough away from the Tenderloin shitshow...
Pleasantly surprised
The Oak hotel is located in a killer location. 3 blocks away feom the Van Ness bart station, and its on a fairly quiet street. Now it is an old hotel in need of some repairs/update's. Dish network didn't work, and this seems to be a running theme with all the SFO hotels... The cleaning crew doesn't clean. It appears that they do minimal work such as cleaning countertops, taking out the trash, and replacing linen. But as far as doing a good vaccuum/mop job, getting food stains or who knows what stains off the walls and doors, and drapes nope that just doesn't happen.
Very pleasant older hotel. Convenient to the opera house. Excellent rates! Front desk personnel extremely friendly and helpful.
Super Dirty
Super dirty. Asked to change the room it was even worse. All the sheets, blankets and towels were dirty and not washed. Hopefully guys on the host stand we’re supportive. There is no cleaning service at the hotel!
The hotel was terrible it smell like c
Great location but inexpensive, u pay for what u g
Pleasant friendly staff, tidy and efficient, but place is cheap and run down ( though everything worked). Walls are paper thin so hearing boyfriend girlfriend arguments all night not so much fun. Also people coming and going and yelling for each other all night long. I stayed Sat night.
Ticked all boxes and met description - clean and convenient. Particularly impressed by the staff, who were extremely friendly and really went the extra mile to help me out on various matters (esp. Neel).
Like: Near Civic Centre, good and clean neighbor. Room is reasonably clean. Dislike: Dogs allowed though it specifies no dogs; flimsy door lock, hand washing soak and sanitizers are constantly empty in washrooms; no hand dryer or paper in washrooms. Nice to have: Desk/table, chair and a table lamp in room.
My stay was pleasant And I plan to stay there again when in the city
Very efficient
I did not get ehat i paid for. I was down sized to something i did not want.
I picked this place for two nights first. I really like this hotel and I extended for one more week after that. The room was comfortable and nice shower room. Great location and the staff really nice.
This place looked like a movie scene. The room had a broken/cracked window that was single pane, there were dark nasty stains on the sink, the bathrooms are shared in the hallway, and the room had old covers with stains and it smelled like fungus. I immediately took some photos and walked back to get the courteous gentleman downstairs to ask for a refund. All I ask is that you let people know what they're getting into and provide an accurate description.
dissapointed
bathrooms dirty not cleaned enough (previous trip kept cleaner) no hot water for shower two days, some guests appeared like homeleyss, much too noisey, could not stay if I had anyone with me
Adequate
Got bitten all over had to sleep with full clothes on, could be just my room. Musty beddings. Other than that, it was okay. Quite clean shared bathrooms. Huge tv with a lot of dish programs was a plus. Great ventilations. Walkable distance to market street and public transports.
Seedy Spot
Pretty disgusting. Very seedy. Very loud and had a lot of bugs and dirt in my room. I didn't touch the bed before leaving. A lot of cigarette burns on the bedspread
Awful
That was the worst hotel I have ever stepped foot into. There was tape holding the microwave together and cigarette burns on the blankets. It was small, but we expected the small size. We immediately asked for a refund, which they were kind enough to do. We decided to drive up the street and stay at the pineapple which was amazing and just barely more expensive
Great little place for the cost. Despite shared bathroom, never waited for the amenities and the room has a sink.
I’m not the type to review anything...
...especially to complain...I find most people who do so must be very spoiled as their expectations are ridiculous...but I feel compelled to warn people about this place. It’s the cheapest nights stay in sf so I was willing to overlook even the theft of my Samsung tablet from my room last time. But the most bizarre thing is that guests on the 2nd floor are accessing the roof and using some kind of mini camera on a black wire to film in peoples windows. I know it sounds bizarre but I suspected it was happening when I was next to the room in question but then saw it all with my own eyes the night I had the end room on the 1st floor that looks into the window chasm. It wasn’t anything I imagined. It was quite real. Management are very nice but basically let people behave any way they like there. I didn’t even bother telling anyone as I already know how it would play out. I just checked out and will never go back.
Oak hotel
Very quiet nice relaxing stay. Awesome day time manager
The property was very clean. The staff cordial.I enjoyed expanded Dish Satellite TV
The management staff is great. They took us in even though the covid 19 virus is a real threat.
Worth staying
No heater in room. There were sink, mirror, fridge and microwave in room. The corridor was cold because the doors at the ends were not closed tightly. Although its was shared bathroom, it was really clean. The location was 3 mins away from tram station.
This place was horrible. The police were there when I went to check in for a “domestic dispute” and were reviewing the cameras. The place has residents that seem to live there on long term basis. I went to the room and it was awful. Super thin sheets - someone’s hair in the bed. Dirty - the night stand was all covered in a layer of cup rings with something sticky. The sink in the room had a broken cupboard door hanging off It. The sheets are so think and rough feeling and the comforter was a motel style polyester type gross blanket. Needless to say, I left and got a room elsewhere - at the Good Hotel down the Street. They were nice enough to give me a refund. Don’t stay here. Good location, scary place.
This is a dirty hotel, my room's tv didn't work and the sink doesn't even work. The room is super small and you have to use public toilets and showers that are never cleaned. The view is a brick wall and the windows are broken
I liked the free toothbrush & toothpaste, shampoo etc. I did NOT like the unclean look of the sink & microwave. Also, the paper towel dispenser was broken in the restroom area. Toilet rooms were VERY CLEAN !
I have stayed for 3 nights and they didnt even clean the room and they dont replenish the toiletries
Excellent plain and inexpensive hotel in SF. A real find. Family run, and they live on premises. Very clean, no bugs, not smelly. Small rooms, each with fridge & microwave & coffeemaker. Strong WiFi. Shared bath (toilet & tub/shower), but sink in each room. I never had to wait for one in 4 days there. 2 toilet/tub rooms on each floor, + 4 additional individual toilets. Bathrooms cleaned more than once/day. Old building, but relatively recently rehabbed. Plumbing fixtures clean and relatively new, no stains or cracks
Feels more like a hostel with double sized beds. I did notice some rooms are nicer than others, but our two-bed room had a TV, mini fridge, sink/mirror, and some room to hang clothes. The hotel itself was quiet, but the street outside is very noisy throughout the night (may not be as big of an issue with an interior room). The bathrooms/showers are shared, but it seemed like they were cleaned frequently multiple times throughout the day and bathroom cleanliness was not an issue for us. We did notice signs stating pest-control comes every 3 weeks, but we didn't have any trouble with pests of any kind. Located in a safe area of town with plenty of dining and public transportation options within walking distance.
Stay here for travellers
Small room but it was clean. Free coffee and tea everytime. Very close to places to go. Bathrooms are shared but it wasnt bad all (6/10)
Window in room did not lock, mirror nor sink in room was not cleaned before check-in. Bathroom was fine, walls were VERY thin.
It was clean, great service, decent location, and price was affordable. Lacked parking and homeless people can be noisy outside of room.
Stellar location and great price. Hostel style hotel with shared bathrooms that could be cleaner upstairs. But overall cute little hotel and very safe feeling. Park at the performing arts garage up the street for ~20 indoors overnight.
Shady people
Disgusting place
We didn’t stay. It’s a flop house. Not suitable for families
The bathrooms where super clean and pretty and for the price it was pretty good.
Endure rather than enjoy.
Correct and minimal in its expression.
Seemed like a hostel, paid Hotel prices
I paid hotel prices for a hostel type room. The management and workers were friendly and great, and helped with request including tv not working and check in. Unfortunately the amenities were hostel like. There was a shared bathroom/shower and chair in room was dirty. I could easily have said I got what I paid for if I would have paid 40 or $50 but with the city tax I paid a little over a 110 a night...
Plenty of parking at the rear of hotel, pleasant staf,
The room was smelly like pee so bad I told the orner he didn’t care.. someone pee inside trash can and wall. Orner didn’t care my boyfriend clean up self because I’m pregnant morning sickness so bad by bad smell. We stayed before the room was ok clean This times room no towel no amenities Horrible
Great place!
This is a safe place to stay. They buzz you in. It is no frills but clean. The shared bathroom is no issue, there was never a line and it was clean. I would definitely stay again.
Convenient, Clean and Inexpensive
This is an economy hotel, but it more than met my expectations. Room was clean and besides including a sink and towels as expected, also had a coffee maker, minifridge and microwave as well as satellite TV (had a little trouble with TV, desk clerk took care of it right away). Shared bathrooms were convenient and also clean. Location is excellent, literally in the center of the city, with easy access to public transit and within walking distance of many major attractions.
Property was cool. Not bad if you are on budget. Good safe location. Bed was a full. Small room but not bad if you are gonna spend it out in the city and just need a room to crash. Like i said safe location. And parking is available just around the block for cheaper parking than other San Francisco parking lots.
It’s an SRO. Very isolating—just individual rooms with no “lounge-like” space (but conveniently walkable to my meeting.) Block ( and nearby areas) very empty at night—never walked there after dark. Staff was reasonably responsive to issues raised (problems with TV, short-term cleanliness issues in shared bathrooms). There were actually a couple advantages over the more upscale motel with private bath I stayed at at the end of my trip (I.e. better TV and refrigerator in room.) Room itself was clean on arrival but not cleaned while I was there.
Hotel for homeless?
It was a cheap hotel in San Francisco so I didn’t expect much. However, our sheets were stained or not cleaned. I asked for a fresh sheet which they happily gave and we covered the entire bed. I felt like the first night there that might have had homeless people staying there? Perhaps the city gives out vouchers and they use some of the rooms? I didn’t feel comfortable with my daughter. That night we heard a woman probably high or mentally ill screaming in the shared bathroom shower. I didn’t feel comfortable coming out of our room or even using the bathrooms because the clientele were mostly men and appreared to be homeless.
Shared Bathrooms are ok. There is no sink in the bathroom, but there are sinks in the rooms. The people who stayed while I was there were not very courteous.
Cockroaches, disgusting bedding that hadn’t been cleaned, fighting neighbors and construction or drilling that was happening to the wall next to my bed, broken TV, inattentive staff. Completely disgusting shared bathroom with urine and toilet paper EVERYWHERE. Very loud and cold.
Okay stay
Right in downtown, safe area. Acceprably clea. Bed sheets, linens, and pillow cases must be washed fully. And bed is not much comfortable. Very good price and service.
It was a shared bathromm, shower. I hope I don't end up with any diseises
Not completely awful, especially for the price
Pros: Warm and welcoming front desk reception, good location, wifi was good and TV works well. Cons: bed was terribly uncomfortable and lack of private bathrooms not ideal.
The staff are lovely and the location is perfect but everything's is very dirty, especially the shower that you have to share with everyone. The guests were very loud at night and the room was so tiny we didn't even have space for the suitcases.
quiet and clean and a friendly staff, the cleaning lady is overly nosey and is looking for something to steal!
The room’s floor needed sweeping and mopping and the lower wall by the vanity garbage can needed cleaning.
Sorry to say but restroom only in the hallway they told me.
By and large a crappy budget hotel in downtown SF. We booked a room for 4 people and checked in around 8 pm. There is no suitable parking but there are paid lots a block away. The room was tiny; like really, really tiny. There is a sink/mirror, but the bathrooms are out in the hallway and are shared. The TV is nice and beds are acceptable. There was a microwave and minifridge which was a welcome touch. The staff are really polite and helpful. Overall, this was the ghettoest hotel experience I have ever been in, but it definitely did the job.
The staff was very friendly. Great central location, one block to the subway.
I must begin with, you get what you pay for. This Hotel was available at an affordable rate for us very last minute. The hotel is dated, we knew the bathrooms were shared before arriving, still inconvenient however... but they are CLEAN. However there are no sinks, which after using the facilities you should immediately wash your hands. The staff were very kind. The other guest/tenants were unbelievably loud through the night, and left behind messes in the bathrooms. The bed was comfy, we had a mini fridge, and we had TV! It was just not what we’re used to, but it was much cheaper than the other local hotels.
Good location just on the edge of Hayes Valley. Near clubs and music venues, which also means fairly loud.
Worked for me.
The Oak Hotel definitely has the least curb appeal of any hotel I've ever stayed at - just a metal door below the plain sign, leading up a few steps to a long narrow hallway. The office where you check in is just a window along that hallway. There is no lobby. It looks old and very bare bones. So needless to say I was expecting the worst. My room (identical to all the other rooms, I'm sure) was small and had no closet or work table. However, the double bed was comfortable, the wifi was reliable, and the large HD TV worked fine. The shared bathrooms were kept clean and I had no problems getting into one when I needed it. The location couldn't be better, especially for me as I had business in the city literally across the street. But it's also great for restaurants and shops, which are in great abundance in the immediate neighborhood. I've gotten better deals in the city before, but those hotels were much more expensive on this trip, so the Oak Hotel may actually be a good deal these days.
Oak Hotel | Hotel in San Francisco | Travala.com
Beds were cleaned burnt bed covers broken bed, and the only ventilation was from the window. That was your AC window air. It was more like a trap house.
