An absolutely disgrace of the service! We arrived on saturday 7th of december to find out that the hotel is closed till end of January. There was only a wee note on the front door with some contact number to call so we did. They relocated us to another hotel muthu oban regent hotel which is not at all what we have booked. Apparently we should get an email ealier about this but i never got anything. After a stay i was trying to get any compensation for the inconvenience but we got declined as this hotel is 'better' standard. Luck of pool, car park you name it...but this is better... Stay away from if you want to enjoy yoir holidays in Oban

Badly let down - will not book a Muthu hotel again

Where to start! We were not informed that the hotel was closed and that our booking was moved to a different hotel. We only found out when we got there and contacted the central reservations. There was no pool or sauna at the replacement hotel, and no parking. It was their good luck that the public parking was free that weekend because of a winter festival. The room was dreadful - far too small for two beds, we could only move around one at a time due to lack of space. The integrated hospitality tray plug didn't have a socket within reach. We had booked a room with sea view - what we got was a tiny room with a tiny window out to the side of an old, dilapidated building. No compensation was offered either for the lack of facilities, the absence of onsite parking or for the awful bedroom.

Beaware that they are currently closed. The booking here still went through and you're supposed to go to a sister branch, apparently. I didn't know until I got to the hotel and there was just a paper notive on the door.

Have stayed in this hotel several times and am never disappointed. The hotel is in an excellent location and is always very clean. I also appreciate how close it is for walking into the town. I would like to mention that the staff were once again very friendly and welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. I plan to go back to Oban soon and I know this will be the hotel I use again next time.

Waterfront property walkable to various locations

The hotel was beautiful and the staff was fantastic. There were some stains on our bedding and towels but other than that the room was clean and comfortable

We really enjoyed our stay! The location was easy to find, well located for walks about Oban, and the staff was without exception professional and considerate! Our meal was delicious- highly recommend the mussels!!

We enjoyed our stay! Close to public transport and lovely view of the water. Quiet and clean. Breakfast was good.

We arrived at the hotel in a howling rainstorm and we enjoyed sitting in the lobby until our room was ready. We ate in the hotel dining room: OK food; nothing to rave about. The room itself was advertised as having a view of the bay which it did have--but very small window indeed. Pleasant staff.

Hotel had a great location. It was not clear that a family room would be a motel typeof room behind the hotel and room facing parking lot and container. Not great shower

Excellent location and service.

Our room had a lovely view of the bay. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our booking included breakfast but we had an early tour pick up so we were not able to enjoy it. The hotel provided a nice bagged snack with sandwich, fruit, water and roll as an alternative. The hotel is located at the end of town. In nice weather it would be a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to town center, but it rained while we were there, so we did not venture out on foot.

a few big and thick spider webs could be found inside the room. the exhaust fan in the bathroom was FULL of dust. I believe it was not cleaned for at least 3 months. Staff was nice, swimming pool was nice.

The hotel has a great location on the seafront with spectacular views. It is close to restaurants & bars all within a short walking distance. The hotel is clean & is tastefully decorated. The staff are always helpful & friendly. Breakfast has a good choice of good to suit all dietary requirements & is presented well. I would definitely choose to stay here again the next time I'm in Oban!

Lovely older hotel

Lovely staff at this older hotel not as near to ferries as site advises but definitely walkable without luggage in tow! Room was chronically cold and shower in room difficult to use. Pool was great as was steam room. Dining on site was good. We would return.

The hotel was very clean and the staff were all amzing. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We would rcommend the hotel to anyone.

Poor menu. No staff on bar - covered by reception staff. Coffee lukewarm from bar. Some tables in dining area nicely set up with tablecloths and cutlery. Others plain. No reason given. Hot plate warmers not on for breakfast and plates cold. Rooms nice extras like water shortbread mints hot chocolate.

Very accommodating staff, extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great as well. Room had everything I needed in the single new room. Would highly recommend!

Poor service

The staff was (with the exception of the Scottish ladies) a joke - pure Fawlty Towers standard. The food was not too bad but the service...

Caution staying in ‘annexe’

Stayed in ‘annexe’ as family room out back of hotel. Moved room due to mattress having broken springs. Rooms are tired but clean. Views are of car park, container, sofa dumped outside and coach parking. Service in restaurant was diabolical. 2 staff were trying to do everything and one didn’t have a clue what they were doing. Tables left uncleared and food came out slowly. Quality of evening food not good - pasta dish for main course was inedible. Ate out second night even though dinner was included in rate.

Tired building that could use some sprucing up. My shower had issues trying to shut it off

Pleasant stay

Spacious, room, comfortable bed. Everything about the stay was good, however the hotel appeared short-staffed, with staff having to cover different roles simultaneously. However they were always pleasant and courteous despite this difficulty for them.

Amazing views and right in town for easy access to everything.

Indian kitchy, shabby chic. Gold tableware, dated decor. Fantastic room with enclosed suite overlooking the harbor. Nice steam room and large pool. Friendly staff (when you can find them). Place was kind of deserted and understaffed. No matter--it is a great deal in a great location with everything one needs.

A Good Oban Stay!

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The hotel staff were very accommodating when I asked for wakeup calls & to increase the heat in my room. I used the pool & steam room & this is a plus. The hotel is a bit further away from the train station, but is closer to the Dunollie Castle!

If you require dinner there are no convenient times for reservations unless you’re in a “group “. Yes, there are plenty of pubs, but it’s expensive. The shower is low pressure. The staff are sweet, but their collective answer is we have a group, so we can’t take care of you. Oh, there’s Pringles chips in the bar:/pittiful.

The Muthu Alexandra Hotel was a good choice for visiting Oban. Located on the far side of town looking over the seaside walk, you can enjoy a great view of the harbour and the rest of town. It’s walkable to get to both main streets, and also the ferry dock, which opens up the surrounding islands during your visit. I thought it was a good choice for visiting the town.

I thought the hotel was very clean and the bar was very comfortable with amazing views over Oban and all the ferries and boats coming into the bay.

Submarine

Wonderful experience. The staff in the dining room were very helpful and chatty when serving the meals. The weather was particularly excellent very hot and sunny. Service. at the reception was very good and staff were helpful to us.

Overall it did the job. The shower had no pressure, at all. I think my room was close to the kitchen because I heard dishes being made for hours. The walls aren’t very thick, I could hear my neighbour so definitely bring earplugs. The staff and the pool was nice.

Not value for money for an old room

Quite overpriced, the room was old and worn like an old grandma's home. One of the sliding doors of the wardrobe fell off from the rail. Not value for money with this price

At breakfast I had a table in the corner next to the window on the front. There were a number of ants on the window ledge. I reported it to reception after breakfast who were very apologetic and concerned and advised that a pest exterminator was coming in the next few days. Otherwise all was good. I had a single room with sea view and bed was a little small (maybe not used to single beds) and whilst the sea view was excellent it was through a rather small window.

Do NOT stay here! We arrived to a very dated hotel and a dirty room. The overall condition of this hotel is dated and very worn. The hotel staff were average, the breakfast was basic, inadequate and poor quality.

Small room at the back of hotel with a window which opened onto the staff smoking area, small and unclean. In short not at all as advertised.

Old fashioned and poorly maintained decor, ant infestation in the dining room, tiny dark room and listless staff who seemed interested in being helpful or accommodating

Everything was a deception. We were not in the hotel but cheap apartments behind the main hotel. We didn’t have WiFi nor basic hotel amenities. They basically lie on their website.

Located on the esplanade and walkable to many choices of restaurants.

Nice stay

Very pretty well manicured hotel my only negative was our room was over 80 degrees when we arrived. They placed welcome chocolates on each bed and they were melted and liquid because of the rooms heat. After about 2 hours with the window open and the heat turned off the room was comfortable. Very clean and roomy

Lovely stay

Booked relatively late for the Easter break. Check-in was excellent & receptionist was very helpful. Room was spacious & for a double room, the bed was large & very comfortable. Good sized bathroom with bath & shower. Never had time to use the pool, but it looked lovely. Lounge area & bar was very nice with great views over the bay. Liked the fact that they had games scattered around to keep you entertained. Will definitely be back.

Muthu Alexandra Hotel

Excellent hotel.Staff friendly and helpful.Faces onto sea giving excellent views.This is our third visit to the hotel and have no complaints.

We stayed one night Room was cold no proper heating we have been provided with a portable heater We have inquired about swimming pool and staff told us it’s being cleaned we have paid for pool and pool was with cold water temperature freezing water could not enjoy very much our satay over all Glory one of the staff was being very helpful Don excellent customer service .

Good stay

Friendly staff and excellent reception staff. The hotel is slightly dated but it is clean and comfortable. We used the pool and it was clean and warm. Only slight issue we had was that our bathroom was cold. Our room was large and spacious, beds were comfortable.

I was stuck in the staff quarters , which was chalets behind the hotel , which they didn't explain that well Due to the storm the door of the room banged all night due to the wind Really poor lighting outside and no way to get to the front but walking right around the building in the pitch black Bed was really uncomfortable and didn't get a wink of sleep all night Glad to leave in the morning

The property is conveniently located to the city centre. If you like to swim, definitely take advantage of a nicely sized hotel swimming pool and then the steam room. The rooms are quite large with high ceilings and a good mattress.

Pity about the pool!!

We were told on arrival that the pool was open at an extra cost of £5 per person per day. That was fine , but when we wanted to use it were told it was closed for maintenance purposes. This was the same every day. We should have been told of this before hand . Otherwise very nice place to stay! Really should deliver on what customers pay for!!

Our room was nice but could maybe do with upgrading, especially the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the view from the room was wonderful. The hotel has a lovely dining room and dinner and breakfast were excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were disappointed the lift was out of order as I have arthritis in my knee but just has to cope with the inconvenience.

This stay was one of the most memorable of our trip to Scotland. Right on the water with beautiful views. Staff was warm and friendly from the moment we walked in. Would highly recommend staying here.

We booked this room last minute on our road trip. The staff were lovely and our room was clean and cozy. Less expensive than other hotels in the area yet close to all of the action in town.

Nice location, but average everything else

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast choice was excellent. Beds were a bit hard and the duvet didnt fit fully across the bed, but otherwise great stay

Really in need of a makeover. Public areas are tired & the family room we stayed in was very poor value. The restaurant menu was limited & the quality of the food was poor. Staff worked hard but not enough of them. Liked Oban but wouldn’t choose this hotel again.

Our room wasn't clean first day due to the house keeper had to go to a funeral and there was no cover... Room was too hot due to the recent heat wave and there was no air conditioning or fan in the room however, it was a reasonable size room. Toilet flushing nob was not working when we got the room, but the owner fixed it for us. Good side bathroom. Car parking was available at the site. Staff were pleasant.

Bait and switch. Booked what I thought was a nice hotel. Was given a detached “Motel 6” type room in the rear of the property. Poorly decorated room with a large window with no screen to keep bugs out. A full size man could fit through the window, so how could I sleep at night? No phone in the room. People hanging out on the steps nearby, sketchy. No fan. It was hot. The plumbing was shot, flush the toilet and water comes up from the sink and the tub. Horrible !!! No one cares. Also, no parking comes with your stay and the clerk never told me I could park in the back by our crappy room. They said they were full and nothing they could do. I want a refund !

I'll stay again

I enjoyed this hotel. We had a great view of the bay, the room was comfortable & breakfast excellent. I could have stayed for much longer.

Room toilet didn’t work. Trying to find a menu for dinner not easy. Views were excellent but won’t be staying again.

Reasonable hotel which could be much more....

Overall the place is ok. Managed by MGM Hotels (they have many hotels internationally). Some aspects are excellent (water and chocolate in room, complimentary prosecco) but decor is dated (and unusual). Reception staff were great. Bar wasn't always staffed so had to call for people. Only had breakfast which was poor - buffet style, had to wait to sign in, no cups, completely self service.

Sea views and comfort.

Very happy with our one night stay. Lovely room with Sea views…it was spacious and well equipped. Breakfast was also very good again with sea views. We would recommend. Definitely a real treat.

We were pleased to see that one of the old hotels in Oban has been given a new lease of life, and we were equally pleased to see that work has started on the Regent Hotel in Oban.
