Greeted with a smile after a long drive. Cozy place with easy access to all the Monteverde offers
not recommended
They DO NOT have private bathrooms. It is not mentioned in the booking and is misleading. Rooms are very small and dingy. The whole place is very very ill lit and depressing. Away from town as well. Not the best place to stay. Staff is very nice and helpful.
Avoid at all costs
Would give a zero star if we could. We were the only people there for the night. We booked a room with private bathroom, but the boy insisted on giving us the room with the shared bathroom, and asked us to pay 30$ more if we wanted to get the private bathroom. After arguing for a bit, he asked for 10$ to switch to the private bathroom room. We stood our ground, and finally he agreed to give us the private bathroom room at no extra cost. There, neither the internet not TV was working, and both were included in the stay. To counter, he again told us that the shared bathroom room will fix our internet issues. So we had no choice but to agree to switch, since we did want to have Wi-Fi for our stay. In the new room, the key broke while were testing the locks before heading out. The boy now asked us to pay for the broken key. In addition, he was leaving for the night shortly with no staff on sight. On asking what we should do in case of an emergency situation, like not being able to get back in because of broken key, he told us to send an email to some address!!! This was getting utterly ridiculous by the second, and the boy was constantly being instructed via phone by someone on the other end, trying to get us to give them more money.... At this point, we asked him to refund our booking and we will find another place for the night. He was understanding how ridiculously bad our situation was, but wasn't willing to do the refund until we told him that we will get the cops involved
Hot water is only slightly warm. No laundry on site, no hair blower. Everything is basic, lights are dim. Roads are dusty.
Staff were friendly and accomodating despite very little english. Although my room was supposed to have its own bathroom, AC, and tv, my bathroom was shared, there was no AC and tv did not work. It could of been a little better with cleanliness over all, but bedding was clean and for the price and amount of time spent inside, it was a good value.
Very nice for the price!
Great breakfast! No room services, and a very annoying little dog that lived next door and sure barked a LOT! Anyway, overall I would give this a thumbs up!
Comfy!
Great double room. With the comfiest bed I've had on all my travels. Nice building. Warm shower. And 5 min walk to supermarket and restaurants
Decent location but up at least one steep hill and then down a road that sets off dogs barking at every house you pass. Nice new place though with super helpful staff. Helped with bookings, onward travel and local knowledge. Could do with a table and a bin in the room
The hotel staff were really great. They helped us book activities in monteverde which made our stay ( I advice anyone going to think about things they want to do in advance and not just turn up like we did). Also arranged for our clothes to be washed and had a sink for me to scrub my boots :) By far the most helpful during our stay in CR so far. Breakfast was really nice as well- a choice between traditional or american with tea/coffee. Both really filling. Shared bathroom was clean. We were there in low season so no problem with sharing. Things to note - youll have to climb 2 relatively steep hills if going there from bus station/main town but you are in a mountain so thats partly expected. The other is that the house next door has dogs which bark and a small dog outside which barks and follows you ( unless you completely ignore it and walk past it). Neither of these should be a problem if driving.
Walking distance to Santa Elena.
Rooms are clean and confortable but requiere updating. Staff was fantastic, very friendly and helpful.
Good hotel if your looking for a budget room. Limited parking, hotel off dirt road and about a 10 min walk to town
Basic lodging that wasn't worth the family price
The staff was friendly and helpful in orienting my family to the local area. The room itself was very basic, kind of old, and lacked amenities. One of the light fixtures didn't work (it wasn't a bulb issue) and the walls were thin (although the area was relatively quiet). We had to change in the bathroom because the curtains were see-through when the light was on in the room. Breakfast was a sit-down meal made by the staff and looked amazing. However, breakfast service only starts at 7:00, which is way too late. We had guided morning tours each day we were in Monteverde, and most of these start at 7:30, which means there wasn't enough time to eat at the hotel and still make the tour. Most other hotels in the area start breakfast at 6:30.
Super friendly staff. Would totally stay again
Wonderful, friendly, home away from home!
We were so pleased with our stay at Monteverde Eco Lodge. Everyone there helped connect us to the best of Monteverde’s wonderful activities, food, & travel resources. Someone was always available to satiate our needs. We also thought the location was perfect—-close to town, yet quiet, with the National Park almost in our back yard. Thank you Monteverde Eco Lodge.
very clean, basic accommodations.
The location looked a little iffy, its in a residential neighborhood on a bumpy road. The room was very good though, clean and comfy, and the breakfast was great.
Sweet little B&B
The hosts were very sweet and welcoming to us from the moment we arrived. Maricelle gave us great recommendations for what to do in the city and they prepared a delicious breakfast in the morning. Cons: the bed and bedding was not very comfortable (but still clean) and there were a few bugs in the room.
Budget hotel - very clean and friendly staff
Room was very clean and spacious, if sparse. Good value for money, with good breakfast (although limited choice). Lady at front desk had no English but was very helpful; I did see other guests struggle but ths caused us no issue. Her husband had more English and was also extremely helpful, especially during breakfast. Our room was on main floor. I think upper floors may be better. Curtains are thin so at night, anyone outside has full view of your room. Also, the "balcony" is actually a shared walkway to the rooms so not ideal to sit out and read or enjoy a drink, and it overlooks the driveway, not trees as one might expect. I suggest asking for an upstairs room. During our stay, we had high winds and cool temperature so sleeping near the window was uncomfortably cold. We were able to use bedding from second bed to be warm enough but if we were using both beds, we would have been cold. I suspect the owner would have provided extra blankets if asked. When I booked, I thought it was located in the town but we had to get a taxi to and fro; it would not be a pleasant walk. Not expensive but not as convenient as I had hoped. Overall, clean with comfortable bed, hot water, and decent breakfast. All good for the money spent. If you are not seeking luxury or amenities, this could suit you well.
Amazing lodging in a breathtaking location
Jennifer just takes the prize for the best check in experience. Very unassuming and professional, she first guides you through your plan giving all the options. Once you have decided - she waits patiently and if you don’t want to do something she accepts that. For other things she makes all the bookings. Then she checks you in. Lodging is very earthy and comfortable. The towels are beautifullly arranged on the bedehich is very comfortable. The floor mat in the bathroom is folded in the shape of a swan and so is the toilet paper. Just nice welcoming touches. Absolutely recommend staying here. Don’t be fooled by the price - just because it’s low does not mean it’s a cheap setup. We found it last minute and delightfully surprised.
Sparkling Clean & Great Service!
Jennifer, the bilingual manager, is very gracious & helpful. She made all of my arrangements for excursions & transportation with great efficiency. The “breakfast included” was deliciously prepared by the lovely Patri. I very much enjoyed visiting with Jennifer’s warm & friendly mother, Ana. All members of the staff are hard-working, accommodating, and make their guests feel welcome & comfortable! Glad I found this gem & recommend the same to y’all. I had a very relaxing & quiet 3 day stay here & I would not hesitate to return.

Lovely clean place, lovely staff and away from the street sounds. But the stairs to my room were really steep and the mattress was the old spring type. I just couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep on it. I managed to put my pillows in a line to sleep a bit. The weather was perfectly cool even with the late afternoon rain. For transportation, walk to the City Central and get a taxi there because It's cheaper that way. (No Uber so far away from city). I had a lovely short stay.
