Great stay enjoyed very much
Very nice reception and restaurant, but the rooms went downhill. Our shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and our telephone didn't work. Had to go to reception instead of call to book a table (which isn't a problem really), but the staff didn't speak enough English to understand what we were trying to say about the telephone not working. Eventually, someone who understood and could work around problem turned up to our room, she couldn't fix it, but understood what was wrong.
Lovely location directly on Lake Taupo, however the lake path is around 2 metres from the sliding door to your room if you happen to be located on the ground floor. The storerooms are generous in sizing but only have queen size beds. Decor a little dated but very comfortable. The restaurant was nice with a good menu selection. There is also a lovely area adjacent to the restaurant for drinks. Breakfast was delicious, best scrambled eggs! It’s a bit of a walk into town but doable. The rooms are possibly a little noisy due to the busy road behind the hotel. Once we shut the door to our bedroom, the bathroom acted as a buffer so it was much quieter. Parking is right outside the lower ground rooms. Staff were fabulous and very friendly.
Lovely view Property getting tired but good food and service
The friendly staff.
Quality comfort with a little glamour in Taupo
We were looking for somewhere with a bit of comfort, at short notice do to an extended work trip. I have stayed at Millennium hotels before around NZ and theyre pretty reliable and this one had an in-house restaurant, better than the thought of battling Taupo chaos on a holiday wkend. Checkin was friendly and easy the room was spacious with a great view over the lake. Everything inside was clean and in good condition and comfortable. Spa bath was welcome. There was a little noise at night with the room opening to a hallway that was open on one side and overlooking the carpark and road, you could hear traffic at night, but it wasnt bad. Ate at the restaurant, excellent service and meals were delicious. Make sure you book on weekends or holidays, we were lucky to get the last table. Overall a really good stay and would happily stay here again.
The location with the waterfront views was stunning, amazing sunset! The size of the room was perfect. Staff were incredibly helpful and accomodating, not to be faulted. In room dining options were not good. Go out somewhere else for dinner.
Very nice place. Friendly staff. Nice restaurant with breakfast and dinner.
Great
Beautiful setting by Lake Taupo , pleasant room but little storage place if staying for a holiday
Wonderful location with a beautiful view of the lake. We had dinner in our room and the room service was very prompt and the food was good. We could have had a meal in the restaurant but it was so nice to be in our room and listen to the waves and birds - plus an amazing sunset. Slept listening to the waves lapping on the shore- sheer bliss.
Whoah lake views
Manuels
Great location on the Lake. Very nice restaurant with a lovely view and wonderful dinner.
We had a lovely view of the lake. The facilities in the room are beginning to show their age, but are quite comfortable. We were disappointed that although the room had been made-up, the bed was not made! Dined both nights at the Edgewater restaurant. The meal was good. Breakfast adequate.
Property and location was perfect. Great room and view
Spent three nights in a junior king suite. Lovely room with a huge comfortable bed, large bathroom with spa bath. Balcony overlooking the lake as I think all rooms at this hotel do. Staff on reception and bar and restaurant very efficient and helpful. Would definitely stay here again should we visit Taupau in the future.
We stayed as a family with our young daughter. The hotel is right on the waterfront of Lake Taupo which is ideal for walking along the shore and the views are excellent. Rooms were modern and clean. The hotel has a nice restaurant, if a little old fashioned, with a great view of the lake and the sunset. My daughter loved running down to the water and looking at the ducks. The pool was heated like a hot tub, which was a surprise but very relaxing. My only concern was that we booked a junior suite and my parents in law were in a superior room but both were almost identical. Ours was on the first floor and the decor was slightly more modern but other than that the footprint of the rooms were exactly the same and they had the same amount of living room furniture. The junior suite was only slightly more expensive but we had hoped for a separate living room in which our daughter could sleep in her travel cot. Regardless, it didn’t bother us and both rooms were lovely. I only mention so other travellers know what to expect.
We both enjoyed our stay, Found the property clean, But the TV in our bed is that old the picture shimmer time to update the TV
Overall experience was very good. Staff pleasant and helpful.
Right on the lake, very nice view.
Staff was lovely, restaurant was excellent, rooms were great with an amazing view. We loved our stay!
No problems.
Food is good and the price is fair
We love Taupo and Manuel's and have stayed a great many times over the years. Unfortunately the rooms are a little tired and could do with a wee revamp. The sofa in our room was awful. However - it won't stop us from returning as the location on the lake is perfect.
Great hotel on the lake front. Comfortable and beautifully decorated. Room was large and bed was super comfortable! Lovely staff and nice restaurant with olde world atmosphere! Loved it!
Parking was the only challenge not enough. It was the weekend of the 160 cycle challenge so that may have been the problem
Beautiful views of Lake Taupo
The hotel is in a really beautiful location and our room / balcony had amazing views over Lake Taupo. The room was clean and had all the amenities. The hotel is pretty old and the carpets in the corridors, the pool and the sauna could do with a refresh. Checking in and out was without a hassle and everybody working there had a smile on their face.
Great location on the lake with friendly staff. However, I wouldn’t say it was the best value for money. The rooms are overdue for a facelift, and could do with more sound proofing. Additionally whilst you are lakefront there is a public path right outside your window so if you are on the ground floor you end up with the privacy curtain closed so you don’t take advantage of the wonderful view. Parking is also a little bit of a lottery when the hotel and/or restaurant is full. Grotto is also currently closed which was a shame as it could have lifted the experience, but they were open about this in their confirmation email.
Lovely room and outlook.
We stayed at the Millennium for a family holiday. I don’t usually comment but I have to say the staff at this property were exceptional-the nicest, happiest most attentive and welcoming group of people I have encountered at a property of this size-nothing was a problem! It made a huge difference to our experience staying at the hotel-such a big credit to them all.
Love this place. Stay often. Rooms great size and love the door straight out to the Lake view.
View of Lake Taupo
Beautiful lakeside surroundings, excellent check in staff. Room excellent but bathroom very outdated and not quite in keeping with standard of main room. Our room was not serviced until 3.00pm and then we had to ask person who appeared to be in charge of housekeeping to have it properly serviced. She agreed it was not properly done.
It was perfect loved it all
Great location. We had an issue with the air conditioning, they were great and moved us to another room. 😊
Was a great choice for our requirements we will return again 👍
Really enjoyed our long weekend
Fabulous location right in the lake front and an easy 2.5km walk into town. The grotto spa pool is a fun trip back to the 70’s - really enjoyed our stay.
Excellent venue Brilliant staff x
VERY NICE STAY, WALKING DISTANCE TO TOWN.
Lovely lady at reception, very friendly and helpful. Perfect spot for a weekend.
Great stay
Overall great for families
Great high standard as usual.
Good position.
Great place to stay right on the lake! Nice size room and great view
Excellent will visit again
Classy classic hotel with hot pool.
The hotel occupies one of the best sites in Taupo, but the building is old and worn out. Basic and budget renovations had been carried out in our room, but the result has been underwhelming. I would be reluctant to stay there in the future
Beautiful Views
A gorgeous view awaits after checking in! Not only do they have great views, they have great service and food. We were only there as a stop-over, but such a good choice for a brief stay. We decided to eat at the hotel restaurant to avoid driving around some more just to find a place to eat. Such an excellent choice. The room was extremely large and very comfortable. I wish we could have spent more time there.

Great staff 👍 really helpful 👍
Property is tired and needs updating
It is a very nice place to stay.
It was quiet and the restaurant was excellent
Beautiful location.
My partner and I found the overall service of the hotel disorganised, particularly regarding the private grotto which appears to be booked in 30 minute intervals. After waiting 3 hours, my partner and I went to collect the key however there does not appear to be a system that ensures the customer before you returns on time so we were left waiting 30 minutes whilst the receptionists were unsure what to do. The bathroom in our room was also very very small, and the black-out curtains were ripped meaning we were woken very early with light. I do not believe the overall value of the hotel is worth what is being charged. The reception area is beautifully decorated however the rooms seem outdated and poor quality.
Nice tidy and great location
Perfect spot right on the lake Staff friendly and professional, extremely clean and comfortable, woukd definitely stay again
Always a nice stay. Excellent service, food and coffee.. Will be back for sure.
Really enjoyed our time at Manuel’s from the view from our room to the wonderful restaurant
Clean and big room.
Excellent hotel and beautiful lake view
Just wonderful
This was a wonderful hotel right adjacent to the Lake and there was a walking path all along the lakeside. Every hotel staff was wonderful. We had dinner at the hotel twice because the food was so good. Our balcony facing the lake was a wonderful addition. The “Grotto” hot tub was unique!
Hotel with a nice lake view. Kids were so excited that they could just go out and feed the birds and ducks
The position of the Hotel is excellent and the bed linen is lovely. However unfortunately for the price the poor condition of the paint in the rooms and cracked tiles etc in bathrooms lets it down. It needs some immediate upkeep done.
A lovely stop over. Bed super Comfy.
Wendy at reception was wonderful!
The hotel is brilliantly located right on the lakefront. The superior king lakeside rooms are lovely and the bed absolutely massive (biggest in 2 months in Oz/NZ). It isnt walkable to the town but Ubers are easily found.
Property was well maintained and in good order. Staff on reception were superb and friendly. Wait staff in restaurant were attentive and polite. Rooms were comfortable and tidy
The pool😊👍
Ok, I hope this doesn't get posted but the hotel gets to read it. Your hotel I love. Every time i come home to NZ I try to stay. It brings back so many memories as a kid. I do have some recommendations. The Hotel front desk rocked. They cheerful, polite and over the top helpful with all requests. The dining room needs some staff training. The food was awesome but the lack of smoothness and smiles was distracting. Knowing where to present food from and retrieve was disappointing. Ran into the chef in the hallway, female, if I am correct, full of smiles and hellos. The staff not so much. That was a pity. Need to soften those edges and polish those skills in an upscale eatery. Food rocked!!
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel and relaxing on the balcony overlooking the the lake. The staff were very welcoming and were helpful
Excellent location and friendly staff, but dated and worn furnishings, saggy beds, no decent restaurant and average housekeeping make for an experience that is a let down from our previous stays. We stayed for 4 nights, and our bed was only made once by housekeeping during our stay.
Great place. Great views
The room had a balcony that looked out over the lake. The bar/ lounge area was very inviting and comfortable with great live music Friday night. Our only disappointment was the restaurant. A very limited menu. Th3 seafood pasta had very little seafood in it and the pizza was one of th3 worst I have had. Butter chicken was excellent.
We love this place
Amazing food and drink, even better view and that sunset. Heated pool. Clean, well maintained. Great service.
Nice lake front view for dine with beautiful sunset. Easy access by walking along the lake Taupō downtown. Facility, room condition was a bit old.
Lake front location is wonderful
Disappointing compared to previous visits. Lovely bedside lamps but one had a broken shade. Small dated corner shower and basin tap was very stiff to open. Bathroom door did not close properly. Main dining room had limited menu due to 2 items not available (NZ Lamb and crab cakes). sadly this is now a dated facility. Redeeming feature was lovely lake views. Not good value
nice stop on our trip dated but clean
The position of the hotel is outstanding, literally on the waters edge. Our room was very spacious & a lovely comfy bed. The interior is a little dated & the air conditioning unit didn’t really work, so the room was very hot in the night. The food was lovely & value for money. The heated pool was very welcome after a long bike ride. Would definitely stay again
Beautiful property in a great location on the lakeside
Terrible restaurant & service
Restaurant management was terrible and lacked professionalism. I heard constant complaints from other dinners regarding service. Food was OK but made a White Russian cocktail wrong twice, a simple drink to make wrong twice & barter was attitudinal about his mistake. Resort itself was fine but restaurant somewhat spoiled the experience
Extremely helpful staff who went out of their way to ensure everything we needed was taken care of. Fantastic location.
The hotel was very clean and staff were lovely. Beautiful views from our room and lovely food too.
The room was nice but too warm until the sun went down. The bed was comfortable. Nice view of the lake from our own patio.
Only stayed a night but great spot. Wander down the lake a little and you'll find a little thermal stream running into the lake.. great swimming spot.. only downside was the restaurant a bit high end.. needed a entry level option to dine..
Beautiful location on lake Taupo. Staff was friendly and professional.
The check-in was as smooth as possible and there were several dining options within walking distance.
w
The property is on the shore of Lake Taupo. Location couldn’t be nicer.
Good lake front view and well located. It is clearly a 4 Star Hotel/Motel accommodation. No lift to the second floor and had a hard time with the luggages. Breakfast was skimpy with one hot item: scramble eggs! All staff were inside the reception counter and no one available to assist ! Will not return.
Fantastic property
The room furnishing are very dated, no mini bar or milk. Room needs a complete makeover!!
Fantastic view
Stayed overnight. Good location. Quiet
Restaurant was absolutely beautiful.
Absolutely recommend
We always love when we get to stay at the Millennium although we dont often get to get away now without the kids. Love the rooms, beds are huge and very comfy. Love the bar and snacks. You cannot beat the view from there. Staff are always efficient and super friendly.

We enjoyed a lovely ground-floor room with stunning views of Lake Taupo. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, and our room was wonderful, featuring an incredibly comfy bed that made our stay even more enjoyable. The heated pool was great; all in all, we had a lovely stay.
