Stayed during cold weather. It was freezing. Windows were poor and the bathroom was unbearably cold. Towels felt damp from the cold. Floor in bedroom was tiled and so cold I had to wear socks and shoes in the room. Could a cold draft on my head (the bed was under a window). The power blipped on and off (between 1.00 and 4.20am). Every time it came on the tv kicked on ) I hadn’t had it on at all). This happened 5 times. Had to sleep with an electric heater plugged in for the night.
How clean and well serviced
It is a 4 story walk up no elevator just a heads up! Great location next to MSG.
Stayed in the 1st week of January and they only have a portable heater. Wasn't able to get a good sleep because of the the noise coming from cars. The only good thing is that it's very close to Penn station.
Dirty sheets too much bleach smell and a weird shady guy just hanging out staring
The staff was accommodating and kind. Clean, good security. Noise was typical NYC. One block from MSG and by great bar (Walter’s) and deli (Gardenia). Coming back next year for sure.
There was a weird stain on my bedsheet that made me slightly glad I was only staying for one night. It also can be quite loud at night so I recommend taking the earplugs in the lobby and you’ll probably be fine. Aside from that, the only other real downside was that its stairs, no elevator FYI
walking distance to YEMSG
The staff was very friendly. Unfortunately the hotel is old and required using staircases to go up and down. We only needed a bed for the night so not complaining. Just providing info. The neighborhood is dirty but again for a night not bad. Location in terms of travel is great. Very Close to trains and subway.
Enjoyed our stay! Hotel was nothing special, just an old building with a basic room to stay in, but there were no major issues. The location is fantastic for getting around NYC, and the value is commensurate with the price. The affordability made it possible to stay in Manhattan rather than some place out in the sticks. Wifi was sketchy. No elevator. They will store your luggage if you go walkabout before catching a ride to your next destination.
This is a simple place if you need a place to sleep and a private bath. It was not quiet though. No cup
You get what you pay for with this place. The Room was tiny and hot… I had to sleep with the window open all night (in December) just to cool it down. Check in agent did NOT care about his job, and was a really bad communicator. Very convenient location, but I will not stay here again.
unacceptable
this place was awful. unsafe, dirty. doors didn’t secure properly, mold in the bathroom. hairs and dirt on the bed. left immediately.
Amazing people. Very friendly and helpful
It was good for a night. It is a small hotel but if you´re looking for a place where you can be near the center of Manhattan and not pay much, this would be the place for you.
Affordable place to stay
We stayed here for night as we wanted to be near Penn station. It suited this purpose. We had not realised there wasn’t a lift, so faced carrying luggage up 3 flights of stairs. However staff were very helpful and found us a room on the ground floor.
Thank you for a good stay.
Won't be back
Great location Great price Street noise intolerable No fridge, told No food in room Bed was basically a boxspring No elevator(4 floors) Wanted to pay cash, was told already hit credit card, before we even checked in
We loved our stay! Check in was easy and the front desk staff was very friendly! Right near Madison square garden and walkable to Times Square as well! We loved our room, very homey and comfy. 10/10 would recommend and we will be back!
Bathroom window does not lock, the tv has no service. The door was wide open when we arrived. The rooms have not been updated for a very long time. There is no way to adjust the heat. We only stayed a short overnight, sure glad it was not any longer. Very odd wall decorations
You cant sleep ever from the street noise Area not safe No elevator No staff very small room Very poor bed cleanliness Terrible experience
Hotel stay was horrible ! There was mold in the shower head that I was visibly able to see . We told the front desk . They did send a lady to clean eh shower head . But so she did was while the surface with windex ? The toilet leaked with water terribly . There was rust on everything in the bathroom except for the toilet. There was no cold water and that is a problem beings though it was about 30 degrees. The lady to prior that the hot water did not work & failed to let us know beforehand . The rooms were so cold due to the draft that came in the window ! Horrible , horrible stay & I wish I could get my money back ! Quality over quantity . I do not recommend this hotel at all . The cleanliness is not up to par . And I was terrified sleeping in the room with the mold ! That hotel ruined our experience.
The bed was in very bad condition. And the stained sheets and corks
Went to a concert at madison square garden, this hotel was very close and i felt comfortable walking back at night
I didn’t even check in- it was so scary, I made another hotel reservation while looking at the outside of the the hotel
/
Just two minutes walk to Penn station so really easy to get from there to JFK. The room was small but clean, bed very comfortable and the bedding was very clean. Downside, my room was up 4 flights of stairs with no elevator. In NYC lack of elevator in an old building is no surprise but for some weird reason the guy at reception decided that the 4th floor would be better for me than the 3rd - that's a long way up for a 70 year old woman!! On the upside though - free exercise - I didn't need to go the gym :)
You get what you pay for, especially in NYC
It was a tiny room & not very comfortable but for a brief overnight stay it was fine as a place to sleep.
Starting with the positives, the sheets on the bed seemed clean and the room was warm. Which was good because we could not get the temperature to change. Now for the rest. There is no elevator so we carried our luggage up the steps to our room. I am 73 so that was fun. The room was also not well cleaned and there were mystery items under the bed and a coating of visible dust. We had 3 flat pillows and no blanket. There was only scalding water in the sink. The tub didn't have a drain cap and looked like it was caulked by a kindergartener. We had no washcloths. The soap was the size and thickness of a half-dollar. No hairdryer. There was one small drawer below the foot wide space to hang your clothes. The TV was positioned so that you could not watch it from the bed. The plugs kept falling out of the outlets. The switchplates were hung with a 1/4-1/2" gap from the wall. There was a strange stain on the wall, too. The bathroom door looked like someone or some animal was gnawing on it. It was so noisy that there was a jar of free earplugs at the check in desk. This hotel has no restaurant or even a coffee maker. There was a microwave on a cube next to the ATM in the check in space. I am not going to call it a lobby as it was smaller than a room. You could leave your luggage if you came too early to check in but you had to leave it in full view next to check in. At night the neighorhood seems unsafe. A lot could be corrected but someone would have to care.
Very very loud. Extremely loud horns waking me up at all hours, was on 3rd floor with window unit so basically an open window to 8th avenue all night
very nice hotel, staff was friendly
Ick
Such a cute hotel! I stayed over the Thanksgiving holiday while traveling (it is right next to the train station). The staff was very friendly, it was easy to check in and I felt really safe. The room was small, but cozy and clean. The only downside for me was carrying luggage up the stairs. I would definitely stay there again!
The pictures are very old. Nothing is really like it shows online. The room I was got was absolutely dirty and cold somebody’s earplug was on the floor from previous stays. It was discolored. The bed was not the way it was supposed to be and when the manager came in asking me why it’s like that like I did it I said it was like that when I got here, he couldn’t believe it’s not supposed to be like. Then he couldn’t get the TV to work! the room was absolutely freezing no heat. Would not stay there again Manager was very rude very disrespectful
You Get What You Pay For
NO ELEVATOR. Notification of this is buried in the "Policies." It is not up front in the description of the hotel. However, the staff is willing to help you carry your bags up to 4 floors up. The hotel looks NOTHING like the pictures posted here. I spent the beginning of the night smelling pot smoke in my room. The bathroom was so tiny you can't even stand in front of the sink. My room had a window a/c that didn't work at all. The location is very noisy, not the fault of the hotel, but buyer beware. The hotel offers ear plugs, which, surprisingly, they worked well to drown out the noise. Despite the sketchy noisy location, and having to lug my stuff up 3 floors, the bed was comfortable, the ear plugs worked surprisingly well, and I got good sleep there. Might use again in a pinch, but at least next time I will know what I'm getting into.
Elevator was not there, but hotel location was closed Penn station and very convenient!
The service was flexible but unorganized. We made minimal requests, which we were promised would be accommodated. When we checked in, the room accommodations were not met. The staff was friendly but lacked communication.
Clean place to stay.
I would not stay here again. I'd find more budget to get a better place. Not great.
Convenient location. Comfy bed. All else is not for the faint of heart.
Kind of fine; kind of yikes
No one answers the phone even when they are there. Cannot check in early which was fine but storing the luggage in the open lobby, which was then unattended at times was not good. Though I couldn't check in, I also wasn't given a door code to get in later on/there was not someone visible at the desk later at night. I thought I was going to have to call the police but someone came out of a side room after calling and knocking repeatedly. Heat did not work. Towels should be replaced. They warn you about noise online and provide earplugs at the desk; they are not kidding about the noise level. No elevator; not a problem for me but could be for others.
Not too much, not too little, but just right...
Traveling with a friend for a long weekend. It was safe, clean, comfortable, affordable (in NYC terms) and in a great location. It's not fancy but it's exactly what we needed. We would definitely stay here again.
DO NOT STAY HERE
I travel a lot and was looking for a hotel at a good rate. I was stuck between this hotel and another one. I should have known when I walked in that it was a very bad idea. For $80 more I could have stayed somewhere that felt safe. We checked in and the man told us what he didn’t have a room for us but then “pulled some strings” and gave us the room he was going to sleep in. I’ll repeat that, he gave us the room HE was going to sleep in. We got to the room and the floor was extremely sticky. They clearly did not clean the room at all and the floors were still dirty. The bathroom had no amenities and the toilet was still dirty. They gave us a room with two beds which was fine but I came to realize why once we went to bed. We did not spend much time in the room because it felt very unsafe. When the time came to go back to the room and sleep things got scary. First we noticed the sliding chain lock was install upside down so it did not lock correctly. This felt very unsafe. We rolled back the sheets to discover that one of the beds had dirty sheets and the other had blood on the comforter. Overall this was a very bad experience. Also make sure to note the number of travelers you’re coming with. If you are a couple THEY WILL charge you an additional $50 for a second person.
I felt unsafe in the area. Very noisy from room. Furniture was beat up. No elevator. WiFi didn’t work. No outlets. No thermostat in room. Not worth the price!!!! Completely misrepresented on Expedia. No one at the front desk answered the phone x2. I had to walk down 3 flights of stairs to find the WiFi code posted on the wall.
Very handy to train station. Lots of crowds at rush hour. Sidewalk outside hotel had trash and a dead rat. 2nd floor room had some sound insulation, but was still noisy from the street on Friday night. On the other hand, the room was as advertised: the bedroom and bathroom were clean and pretty modern, but with a slippery tub for the shower, and no grab bars.No common spaces available, just the bedroom. TV did not work.
Old and ratty.
Very un clean dirty linen and towels Toilet to close to shower. Had to have my feet in it to use. No elevator. Luggage up 2 floors. Difficult entering and leaving No one ever at front desk. Phone not connected
Great location. Room is not as clean as it should be and fixtures are falling apart. Sink doesn’t drain properly.
Not really recommended
No elevator and very noisy.
No frills, but great for the price
The hotel is near the train station, honestly not the best neighborhood, but it’s convenient to transportation, and the hotel security made me feel very safe. The room and bathroom were clean and the staff was very helpful.
No frills, but excellent for the cost
It’s not a fancy hotel of course, but my room and bathroom were immaculate, the front desk was very helpful, and the security in the hotel was so good I felt very safe.
no one at front desk for check in for 20 minutes. smallest hotel room”box” i’ve ever stayed in. towel stained, holes in washcloth, no closet or drawers. at 6 am smoke alarm in hall started beeping every 30 seconds. no one there to stop it for 2 hours. no one at front desk at time of check out. you get what you pay for
Very very basic. Sleep. Get out. Shower head didn’t work. I tried to explain to staffer but his English was too limited to understand Only furniture was an old chair too dirty to sit on. Rest was ok
Great price for the location
This room was perfect to have a place to rest our heads after a concert. The property staff were very friendly. I loved the emphasis on security. The room and bed was clean.
Needs improvement.
Room was small and quaint, but wasn't needed to be too big for just myself. The bed mattress needs to be replaced its busted and sags on the edge, the headboard fabric had a huge tear in it like there was a knife fight or something. The noise from the street was the worst part, the room was facing the street, the constant honking and people yelling kept me up most of the night. It half-way served its purpose for having a semi-comfortable place to lay my head for a night.
I only bought the room for the night, since I was only in town for David Gilmour. I purchased the room based on price and reviews saying it was clean. Upon returning to the room from the show, after not touching the bed all day, I noticed it was dirty. I asked for clean sheets and the sheets I was given had what appeared to be coffee stains on them. I didn’t even feel comfortable showering I just wanted to sleep and check out as fast as possible. Staff was friendly but overall would not stay here again. Would much rather spend more to sleep comfortably and clean.
Cheap in all aspects
Very cheap but barely got what I paid for. Tiny noisy room. Bathroom in a matchbox. AC barely worked. No working elevator and I’m handicapped. Bedding looked very dingy. I got (barely) what I paid for.
Very cool
This hotel is located in a prime location If you are attending a concert or a game at the Maddison square Garden. However the condition of the rooms is poor, the cheapest maintenance practices I have ever seen, floors peeling apart, stained towels, the worst paint ever, neither the phone nor the night lamp worked. And the housekeeping of the room was questionable. Never coming back.
Friendly staff, clean room, and great location.
Very small bedroom and bathroom, small bed. TV was not working. Great location near Madison Square Garden
Great location
Fabulous location.
Very small room and extremely small bathroom
Pretty much what you expect, you get what you pay for. If you’re looking for a cheap and convenient place in the city and don’t plan on spending much time actually at the hotel, it’s perfect. I needed a place to stay after a concert at MSG and the location and price couldn’t be beat for that.
Towels and blankets were in spots ,and the room was dusty
It wasn’t quiet on the street but it Manhattan. It’s very small but served its purpose. The bathroom was extra small. The sink was an arm rest for the toilet. So if you’re claustrophobic this isn’t for you. The price you can’t beat for midtown. I’d do it again.
The reception staff were never there to actually receive anyone or anything - nowhere to be found - and guests were left sitting in the unattended waiting area waiting to check in / out for a long time. I had to call the reception desk phone so that the reception worker, who was seemingly living in the small downstairs room attached to reception, woke up and stumbled to the reception desk IN THEIR PYJAMAS to assist guests. It only got worse when I entered my alleged “three star” room, which was had a window that wouldn’t close (let in the cold air and loud noise from the street) and stains all over everything. Three stars is an absolute farce. I’ve seen mixed dorm hostels look and feel far better (and safer) than the Midtown West Hotel.
It's conveniently located, except noisy.
Exactly what I expected in terms of the room, small but functioning. The shower was nice, too.
Very poor standard, room not as shown in advert. Broken furniture, loads of damage to the tiles in the bathroom, water leaked onto the floor in the bathroom. Very dirty,, air conditioner next to bed. External of air conditioning unit outside covered in pigeon faeces, could not be used for fear of contamination. Would not recommend this property. No lifts, lots of staircases that are very narrow! The kettle and microwave are in reception area, no cutlery, cups or plates to use. I have photos of all damage and dirt as evidence.
Basic things are not properly provided for the stay. It's not hygienic and un clean and stinky
If you dont want to climb stairs to your small space, don’t come to NYC. This place was great. It was just as described, and clean
Absolutely shocking hotel. Dirty, run down, rude staff. I left 10 minutes after checking in and went elsewhere. Horrific experience.
Stayed 3 nights , room never clean and need to asked for fresh towels , need to throw my own rubbish but price was better than others . No elevator,. The bed actually cleaned. Area surrounding the property has junk/ garbage. The customer service was great.
Good enough to crush for the night. Clean. Room is tiny, so is the bathroom, the tiniest sink I ever saw. No air conditioner (there is one, but not working), no elevator. The area is pretty dirty and noisy. But the location is extremely convenient to everything - a short walk to Penn St. Overall, acceptable if you are budget minded and not finicky.
Okay for the price, I just wish its cleaner
Had to request for another room during check-in, since the room the gave was really dirty, with dirty towels and dusty floor.
This was not a safe hotel and I do not recommend it. It was in an unsafe area, it was dirty, and I did not stay.
Horrible hotel
Worst hotel i have ever stayed at left after the worst night sleep. There are no words to descible rhe terrible place. In addition staff spoke no english and refused refund for the 2nd night
It is not a hotel. It is more like a hostel. No elevator so I had to carry two luggages four floors up and down. The front desk guy did not offer to help. They did not turn on the AC when I checked in. So room was warm. I got woken up by cars honking and revving. Will not go there ever. Price of room does not match the quality of room.
I’ll never stay here again.
The bathroom was too small with a broken faucet. I could barely stand in it and I’m skinny. The AC was in a window on the 4th floor. Since the window was open it was very loud & noisy. I could hear everyone and noise in the hall. No elevators so I had to walk 74 stairs to get up to my room. I could not find the front door to get in to the hotel. The signage is poor.
Was greeted by a receptionist who lacked any personality and warmth. Very basic and tired facilities / decor, tiny room and bathroom (room 302). No elevator so heavy luggage has to be carried upstairs. Busy area outside and an air con unit through the window which means you are basically trying to sleep with an open window. Other guests were noisy too. Pay the extra and stay somewhere else.
Weekend In NYC...
No elevator and bathroom light has a sensor as soon as you move anywhere around it light comes on automatically NOT GOOD...
Staff was unable to communicate simple things due to language barrier. Would not stay here again
Advantage is proximity to Penn Station and subway stations. Property is clean and secure with coded entry during late hours. Day manager helpful with my bag. It is a walkup property, no elevator, but I was on 2nd floor. Street side room street noise early with trash pickup and other trucks. That said, very good price for midtown Manhattan.
Worse service ever! I came for a long shopping day and I recive a news for a room change. Front desk guy said me that was an error at checking time and they gave me a wrong room, so they took all my stuff and change to another room. Lastly I miss some of my stuff because this change.
Pictures have nothing to do with the place. Felt like a scam. Had to carry my bag up 4 floors. Would definitely not return.
Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. But it was cheap and right next to Madison Square Garden.
The hotel was great....the neighbood was okish, little sketchy, but to be expected
Disgustingly Horrible
The worst hotel of all time. Absolutely disgusting..didn’t even want to take my shoes off the floor was so dirty. The floor was dirtier than the sidewalk.
The place is a dump. Zero amenities. Its a mess. The staff is almost nonexistent. Street noise is over the top. Rooms are uncomfortable at best. The area is filthy and there are unhoused encampments all over. I get it.... it's NYC. But this place was extra. And not really for any significant discount. Avoid!
Good price, lobby staff not friendly or helpful, hallways cluttered, noisy, no furniture in room like dressers, tv reception bad, 1 bath towel
No secure place for left luggage. No elevator. Noisy hotel. Toilet was broken, sink plug was broken and filthy.
For me the stay was what I needed. Basic but had a good ac a hot shower and a tv and charge outlet. It’s a lot of stairs and not suitable for disabled or walking impaired but for a decent price and private bath I was very happy
1. Never seen such a small size room (for the price paid) in my 3 decades of traveling 2. Room rate is exorbitant as compared to its worth, but it may be because of its location in NY. 3. Number given on hotel.com is not a working number 4. When I reached at around 7 pm I could not enter hotel as there was a digital lock - now how can a first timer have code to enter the hotel ? - There was no one at the reception - As mentioned above, phone number is non-working number, so could not connect - Luckily one hotel resident came and I was able to enter 5. No place to work or put something or eat. 6. No lift. Luckily I had only 1 bag. 7. Lights switch off automatically in around 15 minutes as it has motion sensor. That was very annoying. As we need to move in that area to start again. 8. Very noisy inside and outside. Luckily I had to stay there for a night only in transit. But if someone comes with family, it’s going to be very very challenging stay.
Uncomfortable bed
You get what you pay for. Not bad but not great either.
“Where did I go wrong in my life!” OK, it wasn’t actually that bad, but that was the question that played in my head every time I walked into this place. I didn’t realize the quality of hotel I was headed for when I made this booking. I don’t know crime statistics for the area, but this is definitely one of the last places in Manhattan that still feels sketchy. If you need to save the $30 a night by staying here instead of somewhere else… it’s doable. But there’s nothing nice about the area, the hotel, or the rooms. Does give you a place to sleep, though.
Midtown West Hotel | Hotel in New York | Travala.com
bed sheets not clean with someone's hair on them. slimy dirty floor. windows do not close. room cant be locked from the inside. leaking pipes. absolutely ignorant and unfriendly staff.
