The hotel was exactly what we needed for an overnight stay in Wellington. The location of the hotel allowed us to walk everywhere we wanted to!
The shower screen needs to be around the other way. Ridiculous narrow amount of room to squeeze around to get in.
Would not stay here again. There was hair in the bathroom, a stain on the toilet and it was so loud at night, I could hear other people’s conversations from outside. Keep looking.
A good place for short stay travellers. Good cafes nearby.
Clean and inexpensive met all my needs.
The room was OK but the breakfast was disappointed and poor.
The Wyndham Microtel was perfectly situated for our needs. It was close to the ferry (which we were taking the following morning) and within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and stores. The amenities were fabulous, the room and hotel were clean, and we appreciated the spaciousness of the room.
Smelled like cigarettes
Flew in late and was hard to check in. No window in rooms so felt a bit like a dungeon. But lucky the night guy let us in - didn’t look to happy about it but they only have the staff to blame as I rang the day before to sort it but they said to email next day - however next day we spend most of it travelling and forgot about time difference etc. oh well we slept and left it did what we needed
Great location close to restaurants
is a very nice and cheap place to stay is quiet and cut off from all the noise
6 night stay room, serviced once. Had to self check in.
Basic room ok. Don’t pay for breakfast it’s not worth it. Decent cafe round the corner
Poor service - bed not made in a week, towels changed once only. Advertised bar but shut at 6pm!
First of all let me start by saying I never leave reviews either good or bad but this place was so bad I felt I had to review it. let me start with the positive, the hotel is in a good location, especially for the cricket at the Basin Reserve. The room was large, much larger than I expected for a city center hotel and the shower cubical was also a good size. It was also clean (well at least to start). So to the bad. Lets start with the service or lack of it. Firs of all reception closes as 6pm and from then on it's a self check-in machine. Having experience issues with the Wyndam self check-in before I was worried but it did work. Secondly I stayed 6 nights and the room was made up once!! That's despite having the please make up room sign on the door. Now to the room itself. As I said it was large and the shower cubical was also large but the towels were on the opposite side of the bathroom, What's the first thing you need when you got out of the shower, a towel which could not be reached. The sink was a joke, tiny and very shallow and you had to be a contortionist to get to the toilet roll holder while sat on the toilet! Now to the bedroom. The bed was ridiculously high. I@m 5ft 11 (1.8m) and my feet were about a foot (30cm) off the ground when sat on the edge of the bed. How are people who are a lot shorter than me going to cope. Even Lenny Henry would have had trouble (UK visitors will get that). There was only one bed side table and one bed side lamp. Out of chars.
Could be great but a bit disaapointing
Could be a great place and hopefully is for many others. I asked a number of times (3) for some basic service to my room (shower gel / shampoo) ran out and some clean towels. Waited three days for this to happen. TV also requires everything to be streamed which I was not aware of given the description when booking. Some items (room 110) were not fixed sufficiently to wall (eg. Fuse box)
Could not plug in needed transformers for medical device. Outlets were too close to the counter. Staff tried to find an extension cord but it wouldn't work because of lip on cord. Staff had no clue where I could purchase a power strip...they were "young". Self check-in didn't print my room information... staff didn't know how to reprint. What a run around. I'm going to try somewhere else next trip.
Bed was too high...plus hard trying avoid banging your head on the steel beam.
Good city stay
Good for a short stay. Good location in the middle of the city
Nice clean and tidy rooms
Great location and very good value fit money
Staff is very friendly. Rooms are of greate quality
Convenient location and tidy facilities
No tv, undulating floor in shower, glassed area around en suite gave no privacy
Good value
I was really happy with the check-in. The room was really clean and was exactly as was advertised. It had more space than I expected and the carpet bed and bathroom area were nice. It was really warm. A really good stay.
Great place to stay, very clean and tidy. Surprisingly big room.
On arrival it told me the amount for the stay was more then I had booked it for and when we got to the room and I switched on the television it porn pop up and with having an 8 year old with me it was not ideal. It was dirty and not vacuumed properly, the shower had mould in areas and it smelt damp. I put the please service my room sign on the door for a day we were out and no one serviced the room. The reception had a different young person at the desk each day and one I did speak to wasn't that helpful.
Good location close to the central city. But room lacked ventilation and smelt musty. Situated on a busy road the early morning traffic was noisy.
Stayed in delux queen room and loved it! Great bed, loved windows. Room nice atmosphere. Check in staff very pleasant and helpful 😁
Self check-in was awesome and quick. The room was modern and chic albeit no windows however for couple of nights business stay its perfect.
Great Value. Great Shower.
My daughter and I stayed for a weekend and were pleasantly surprised. Microtel was great value! After arriving in Wellington in the morning we were able to store our luggage until check-in time. Staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is walking distance to Te Papa, Cuba St, CBD…even for little legs. The room was trendy, clean and comfortable. The TV streaming options required personal log-in details, which isn’t ideal but worked out ok. The shower was great! Clean, modern and great water pressure. Again, great value. There are hotels with fancier lobbies that are closer to attractions but will cost more. Microtel is a great option for keeping expenses in check.
A convenient location very close to Cuba St. If you want to have a little more privacy and room book one of the executive suites on level 3.
Bad room layout
Very small room with a TV that does not work. If 2 people are staying, one will have to climb over the other to get out of the bed. Microtel with an emphasis on "Micro". Parking is $35/night. Breakfast is $25/person/day. Clean room, but not much space. Know before you book. Oh, buy the way they don't service your room either. Came back after a long day and my room is how I left it this morning. No clean towels, trash not emptied and bed not made. Really!!! Might want to mention that when I checked in. Reception just said, "we only do that every four days." But they still charge me full fare for everyday. Go figure.
The common areas were dirty, carpet needed to be vacuumed. Lift had hand prints and marks on walls that were there all the 3 days. My room was not serviced once over the entire 3 night stay, I put the hanger on the door each day asking for it to be done!!! Internet was slow and couldn't watch live as it buffered constantly! I'm back in 7 days for another 3 nights - I hope these issues can be resolved prior to this.
Great value for money. Just what we needed for the night. The wifi was a bit patchy and our tv didnt connect. But the bed was comfy, everything was clean and overall we had a great stay. The location is very convenient.
👍
I did like the convenient location and the helpful young man behind the bar. I didn't like having so little bedding that I had to keep the heat pump on all night. I didn't like that the TV couldn't get NZ channels. I did like my room - very nice and well appointed with lots of benchspace. Thank you
Size and easy
It's good but housekeeping needs improvement.
Very central and handy to everything. Very helpful, friendly staff. Clean and tidy. No television availability for free view
I needed a late check in, called over 10 times with no answer. Was driving down from Auckland to Wellington so not being able to contact anyone at the hotel made the entire trip stressful. Terrible customer service, the room was dirty, had random black hair all over the floor. Someone’s water bottle was left sitting in the bed storage, was also incredibly dusty in the same area, doesn’t look like the room has been properly deep cleaned in 6 months. No fan for the bathroom in an internal room which is pretty ridiculous considering we didn’t have any windows to open. If I knew the customer service would be that terrible I wouldn’t have booked. They have a self check in- check out service, with no one answering phone calls the entire day.
Had a great stay here in August 2024. Thanks guys. It was perfect for my time in Wellington.
Clean rooms.
Its affordable and clean
Faulty heat in mid-winter
Room 217 Room was freezing, tried to turn the heat pump on which on blowed out cold air despite being on the full fan, sun/heat symbol and cranked up to 30 degrees. Waited for over 30 minutes for this to change.
All good. No staff !!! But good
It was a good option for a business stay where I wasn't in the room a lot. Room was quite poky - and the raised bed was unusual and not that great. More than 1 person in the room would be very tight. Wallpaper was peeling. The bathroom was generous. I'd say this is a good cost-effective option but don't expect too much!
Self check-in after 8pm was okay but self check-out didn’t work at 7am on a Sunday morning. Just dropped off room key card. Haven’t seen any staff around during our 2 nights day.
The room, the bed and every aspect of it was clean and tidy.
This room Is designed for only one person with the ceiling taken over half the bed, also the window was so cold. No extra blanket.
after hours check in was fantastic, perfect accommodation for a simple work trip at a good price. The market needs this.
Well located to Cuba Street
Great location, very clean and good size room. Only thing was the windows did not block out the traffic noice.
No fresh towels. Bed not made
I like the interior only room alot, could use softer bedding and lower bed, it feels like I'm climbing a ledge every times I get on bed. The staff kindly informed me that there's a overstay fee.... After I've already stayed for additional hours, I would like that those sort of charge to be presented to me before I checked in.
The workers down reception are very nuve and easy too talk too. I’ll definitely will be coming back
Great job
Definitely will not be recommending or staying again. It was a last minute booking, I checked in 20 minutes after booking and 10 minutes after checkin said to the front desk I will changing it to one night and contacted expedia immediately. The staff have refused to refund for the second night. My initial issue was the TV has no free TV channels only chromecast so unless you bring your own device or use your own logins you hear everything around you from other rooms. The room itself wasn't the cleanest I found hair on the bed and when pulling back the sheet hair all over the mattress protector. The bed was very high which is odd being a accessible room. There are great cafes nearby so you don't need to waste money eating there and much better hotels, apartments and options in Wellington. I understand why it was so easy to book last minute and again will not return or recommend.
Our stay at Microtel by Wyndham Welington NZ.
When we arived at the reception we were greeted by a very pleasant lady at reception who booked us in gave us key for our door. We were booked in for a three night stay and when we went to make a cup of tea we found that there were on two regular tea bags and several other types of tea bags which we do not drink. There was two hot chocolate sachays which we drank as a second choice after using the two normal tea bags. We spoke to a lady at housekeeping who advised she would arrange for us, so we went out for the day. On our return we found that no additional tea bags or even the chocholate sachays were there so no evening drink was had. Most motels and accommodation we stay always have several normal tea bags or atleast when a request is made to housekeeping additional tea bags are supplied.
Great little room in Welly
Great location and brand new feel to the rooms. Some might find it a bit claustrophobic but it is fine once you get used to it. The room has everything you need and is super clean. Staff are friendly and helpful
Stayed for 5 nights the only down fall was no housekeeping was done the whole stay. Looked back on bookings and house keeping was to be done daily???
Great little hotel with everything you need. The street below is a bit noisy but that’s what you get when staying centrally. Unfortunately the TV in my room didn’t work and they tried to fix it and weren’t able to. I requested a discount on this basis, but all they could offer was a free coffee which I thought was a pretty weak consolation prize!
Easy check in and near shopping and food.
Good value, good location
The tv wasn’t the best as it didn’t work for a while but we got it eventually! Everything else was amazing!!
The bed was very hard. No duty manager on Saturday night. The hotel appears under staff as desk was not manned when we arrived.
The breakfast was ok ,overpriced for what we got . Otherwise a good place to stay
Would prefer if could get tv chanels as well .tricky to navigate tv set up.no security when reception closes at 8.very limited dining options.prefer opening windows fir freash air. Also bad smell on arrival in room probably due to this. Overall was good value for money as went through expedia and got huge discount but if i paid full asking daily room rate i would of been disappointed
Sterile. limited reception. Fire doors all left open. Cold room. Basic
Place is extremely convenient, very tidy and bathrooms are quite nice, smart tv setup wasn't working for us but may have been an isolated issue
If you were bigger than 100kg, in the room I stayed in the shower door opens inwards, with a small area to shimmy around the door, you wouldnt have got in. Area between the bed and NON opening window hadnt been vacuumed, there was old fingernails etc yuk! Bed very cumphy but very high off the floor, you had to climb onto it.
Service was very friendly and helpful and room was tidy and had everything we needed. Booked a couple hours before arrival and it was no hassle at all to check in. Overall great experience!
There were no instructions for things in the room there was no human interaction and to use the TV you had to have an account with one of the steaming services so basically no TV the person looking after the place over the weekend had to do everything even the free water fountain produced hot water from the cold tap after 30 years travelling around the world this was the worst I have ever stayed in
I only stayed in the apartment for a night; wondered why the apartment was shaking, turns out it was the traffic. There was an awkward railing at the end of the bed. I didn't expect to pay a damages fee while checking in.
Great place to stay close to where i needed to be. Liked the high bed and noise was minimal. Will be absolutely staying again. I’ve stayed in much more expensive places in Wellington and not nearly as nice as this. Awesome value.
We’ve stayed here a few times now. Actually better and quieter than more expensive hotels in the city. It’s a 4 minute walk to Courtney place. The staff member I spoke to on Saturday was awesome.
one night stay
Great location not far from Cuba Street. The place itself was allright, but our room was very small. The bed even though very comfortable was against the wall which made it very hard to get out of bed over my partner to go to the toilet in the middle of night. It was warm with a heat pump and the bathroom was comfortable with a good shower. Coffee and tea facilities available, staff nice, helpful and pleasant
Excellent service, basic ammenities very good. Easy and quiet place to stay.
The phone in my room was not working, so when I tried to call reception/manager to advise that I couldn't access the wifi, it wasn't able to do so. I did mention it to the concierge on leaving, and he has a quick check on the system, and seems my room was not activated to be on-line. Minor irritation.
Thanks we really enjoyed our stay! Very affordable and very nice facilities. We will stay again!!
It was a lovely stay, the bathroom was my absolute favourite though, highly recommend
Listing said parking available but no mention of cost---$35 per night. Bed was very high. We needed he chair to step onto to go to bed. Only one chair for 2 people. Bathroom door left an opening so no privacy.
It was fine for the one night we had to stay in Wlg.
The staff were the standout for me! Well Done Team!
Location good for Anzac service
Hotel room was fine, I paid extra to have a window. TV was all streaming with no TVNZ on demand or TV3 now app so TV viewing was limited to You tube or Netflix. Area not great but near war memorial for Anzac dawn service. The guy in the cafe/reception seemed unaware of the dawn service and that there was a TVNZ streaming app.
Good just to stay overnight, not good room to hang out in
Room was ok, very small window. Very confusing on arrival: you enter from the street into a small lobby, with signs that tell you Reception is on LG, and a self-check in terminal but no instructions saying if everyone has to use it or if it is only for out of hours. Elevator only goes up. No stairs. How do you get to Lower Ground? I went back outside and pushed the call button for the manager twice but both times instead of getting a human, the door was just unlocked again. In desperation, I went into the bar that adjoins the small lobby and only then did I spot the small sign under their cash register that says ' Reception' (no reference to Microtel or Wyndham). So the woman standing there had been able to see me going in and out with my suitcase but hadn't called out or anything. Definitely needs a big sign telling you how to check in because street level is not LG.
This is just my husband and I's rating of where we stayed. Walking around to get to our room is scary for us because of small space and we were thinking if there was an earthquake we don't think anyone upstairs will alive. Other than that, we were so happy with our stay. Our room was very neat and tidy, warm and clean. Thank you so much.
The bed was terrible it was like sleeping on a rock.
Easy access on foot to the centre of Wellington. Clean room and efficient check-in process, but why the extra $200 deposit?
No dining
It was a great stay for the price. They have self check in so I didn’t have any staff contact. It was a little weird that the rooms didn’t have any windows but the comfort, cleaniliness, and location made up for that. Plus it’s probably just an issue for me.
We had multiple rooms nearby that were very loud, i wondered if they live there. After 11pm, doors slamming, talking very loud in the corridors and knocking on each others doors then again before 6am. Not great.
Great location, only there for one night to see a gig. Perfct for this.wouldnt stay longer then a day or two.
Convenient to get to from airport
A last minute booking. Great staff. I had a room with an accessible bathroom - lots of extra space in the room. Great shower. Lovely large windows meant lots of light. Location was away from the busy area so fairly quiet. Individual aircon for the room. However there was a lot of dust around the automatic blinds. The bed was firm and high. The fridge wasn't cold - meaning my fresh milk went off. There was a gap between the automatic blind and the wall meaning there was a sliver of light falling directly onto the top of the bed. The walls between rooms are thin. All that being said, I would stay again if the price is right.
Clean
It was clean and modern. Very small but great for two people just needing somewhere to stay for the night. Also really clever use of space in the room. Walkable and parking available. The small size was reflected in the small price will definitely stay again.

Top rate hotel
Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean in a central location. Parking may be an issue. Would stay again if visiting this area.
