Food needs an upgrade
Everything was 3-star and acceptable. The food could use an upgrade. Less “mac&cheese” as I call the food that’s so American we might be anywhere in America. The few nights that there was Jamaican cuisine it was so mild-guess catering to that demographic.
I have stayed at this property for the last 6 years every January. The pros are the location, the 3 delicious meals that are included and the pleasant staff. The rooms themselves could use some work, better mattresses, more thorough housekeeping and minor cosmetic improvements throughout the room and property.
Very quiet for the most part, the food was okay, staff; veryyy attentive, friendly.
the staff was great
Not bad for a quick stop. I think they could improvement the food station.
We checked in and had requested a ground room when we booked in March near my parents who also had requested a ground floor as they are elderly Neither of us had a ground room and definitely not near each other My dad fell the first night and we asked for days for a room change for them They move them finally after day 5 and didn’t refund difference We had no hot water for the first 6 days of our 9 day stay Television didn’t work right no sound on good channels and channels we watch had bad sound Very noisy from neighbors all night long til about 4 am Upper ceiling had only screen over it Toilet had a slow leak around base Housekeeping was fabulous and most the servers in dining hall were great Those at the desk did not seem too concerned with any complaints No security answered when my mom hollered for help when my dad fell but a nice gal from the dining kitchen came and helped We won’t ever go back to Merrill’s Even upper management had no concern My parents have stayed multiple times over last 30 years as well have brought lots of business to them We were not impressed The food was good but it was the same variation every meal Save your money don’t book here and get better place to stay Not happy with it at all
Home away from home
The property was quiet and well laid out. The rooms were very spacious and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was okay with limited but adequate menu. Staff were pleasant and professional. I enjoyed the stay there and would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet getaway at a competitive price.
Just returned from 11 days at Merrils 2. Was our first time. Upgraded to executive oceanfront suite. Loved everything about this place, on best beach in the world! It's a smaller hotel that is all inclusive. 3 meals a day and bar open 10-10. Amazing Jamaicn food most of the time. We came with realistic expectations. After reading reviews snd way better than expected. If not wanting big, busy, fancy hotel, this is for you. They have some live entertainment 2x per week. Lots of beach chairs and shaddy trees, to sit under. Staff was friendly and helpful and many became friends. Close to lots of live music venus, restaurants, stores and bars! This IS our new go to hotel on 7 mile beach, Negril! Thank you to the staff for making it so special! Fell in love with Gabby and Charlie, but loved them all really!
Don’t expect the best during off-season
Clean rooms, beds okay. Really excellent staff. Food so-so compared to other times I’ve stayed here-guess cuz it’s off-season.
Pros: Clean, nice staff, pretty grounds, beachfront, mini mart right next door, close to music venues (Drifters, Roots Bamboo, Woodstock) Cons: food was terrible with very limited options, (stewed liver should not be served for breakfast!) alcohol/drink choices limited, cheap liquor brands I’d stayed here 2 years ago and food was limited but was delicious but not this time. Definitely not worth the $155 per night I paid. Disappointed on my birthday
The staff at Merrill‘s went above and beyond. Even though the menu offered was somewhat limited I found it totally sufficient. At every meal there were at least two different meat, entrées, and many different vegetable options every day. Even though it was a slow season, they had a singer perform twice a week.
Small clean great price with great staff... location is wonderful with a beautiful beach
Merrills was really pleasant, the rooms pretty and facing a true garden with alleys and paths, very beautiful. The food was very good and varied, the staff attentive and polite. And they didn't have mosquitoes in the rooms. The Negril beach is amazing, but it is best to only stay inside the resorts. This applies to all properties.
The rooms we were staying in were roach infested. Also, there’s not much to choose from the food options as it is not buffet style. Paid for two nights but had to leave after the first night due to unsanitary conditions. Was not able to get a refund.
The staff were just wonderful and polite. The resort was well kept and clean.
The property is on the seven mile beach. The beach is spectacular. The live band on Wednesday night was good and played a lot of vintage reggae. The staff was attentive and willing to do whatever they could to make one's stay enjoyable. However, the food was disappointing. I was unpleasantly surprised to find that I got better Jamaican food in New York.
the pool was clean and the staff was very friendly
the pool was clean and the staff was very friendly
Comfortable and economical. I would definitely recommend it for a quick trip to Negril.
My stay at Merrill’s was fantastic the staff treated me well.
Limited choice of food
I liked the property surroundings including the beach and the room. I didn’t like the dining options as well as the dining times especially dinner being at 7pm and ending at 9pm. That is too late to eat and too short a time as well especially when breakfast ends at 10am and that’s a much quicker meal. That was my biggest fault with the dining options, the food itself was okay and prepared properly.
Location
Secluded.
Nothing
5 night stay (ocean view suite). Room was clean and spacious, AC was cold, hot water worked perfectly, view was amazing. WiFi worked better on the beach & restaurant than in my room. All Inclusive was VERY limited, ie ONLY Sprite or Coke was offered, no snacks offered in-between meals, bottled water was not included but a water cooler was available in the restaurant area where you can fill your own water bottle, no top shelf liquor available, food was repetitive but absolutely delicious (none of this was an issue for me). The staff here is the highlight; friendly, welcoming, helpful. No request too big or too small and they all seemed eager to be of help. I would most definitely stay here again.
Nice property needs some updates
Nice mini hotel with semi all-inclusive features
Nice hotel. Great room. Stayed in a suite with microwave and large sized refrigerator (not a mini-bar). Very comfortable bed and the fans and AC was working (important feature given a hurricane blew through 2 weeks ago). The food choices though limited were quite tasty and the restaurant staff were fantastic. The meal experience was raised because of their attentiveness. The aspects that need some attention. 1. The room Wi-Fi was weak. Need more receivers around by the rooms. 2. There needs to be a way to control the pests in the main gathering areas. Also if you say it is all inclusive then all types of basic alcohol must be considered available. Can't have regular wine being an extra cost. That's not right. 3. The beach and swimming area by the sea needs maintenance. Lot of seaweed by the hotel. Had to walk down the beach away from the hotel to swim in fairly clear water. Overall a pleasant stay and good value for the money
Excellent staff, Big Up to Ms. Barbara, Charlie, Nadine, and Mr. Granderson. Thanks for all your help and Great Laughs, Smiles and Service. The remodel is Gorgeous. Rooms are always clean Good Jamaican food. Staff is Top Notch!
The resort was quaint. It was nestled in the middle of everything
The room was spacious and free wifi was available. However, being an all-inclusive hotel, the property could have placed at least 2 bottles of water inside the room. You had to purchase bottled water if you needed it. The food was not interesting to say the least. It was just ordinary...not to mention the dessert, I saw one sliced cake.
I had a wonderful stay
Staff members were very helpful, welcoming and nice. The food was good.and it was right on the beach which was great
Food and beverage staff was the only positive for me.
Staff are great, clean rooms small and intimate.
Merrils
I’ve stayed a few places in Jamaica, Merrils Is one of the best choices. Their staff are very attentive, they care about your stay and provide excellent service. The premises are clean and the food is amazing. Can’t wait to go again.
Wonderful stay enjoyed beach-front view's and amazing sunsets. Beach and garden well kept and clean, happy to see new improvements like beach chairs covers, bath tubs repairs, felt safe, all staff was friendly and helpful. Karen gives the best massage on Merrils property, looking forward to returning. again.
Lovely grounds. On the beach front. Amazing staff. Good food. Dated rooms and too many cockroaches. Rooms need refurbishment.
Merrils staff was kind and extremely helpful
I stayed at Merrill’s less than a year ago, I was excited to see lots of great changes all around like new beach chairs covers, upgrades and repairs in bathroom. It’s safe and great place to relax, beach is just breath taking along with amazing views with sunset, All staff is extremely friendly and welcoming.Garden and beach is well kept. I am looking forward to stay at this property again.
Good service, pleasant staff. They were very courteous and helpful
Really enjoyed my stay there. I plan to go back in 2025.
Staff were so amazingly kind.
Tvs were not working well. Sound was terrible and tv was very small
The clean up of the beach after the storm that left weeds and debris was swift. The staff did everything to make our stay a pleasure. It would be nice however if the hot water in the showers were more plentiful and not only at some times during the day.
Booked a reservation at Merrills II and as soon we arrived we were informed that our booking was moved to their sister resort, Vera. It was a total inconvenience and we weren’t happy about it. We finally got to the room and the room was clean but there was no comforter or blanket for us to use in case we wanted one. Also the shower had nowhere for us to sit our soaps on. Also, they don’t supply wash cloths on hand towels for you to wash up with, in which I thought was very weird. My husband and I enjoy the beach whenever we come to Negril and the beach was a bit of a disappointment due to the abundance of seaweed in the front of the resort. No one bothered to rake it. It was disappointing. The drinks were good, the food was not great and catered to Italian cusine, service provided was good and friendly. Overall, I won’t be returning to Merrills or Vera. It is just not the same as it used to be even for a lower priced all inclusive resort. Spend a little or a lot more and go to another resort. It’ll be worth it. Vacation should feel like vacation in every way.
We had a great, four night stay at Merrils 2. The service was great and the local food was very tasty. There is something for everyone. We enjoyed the soups, fried plantain, corn beef, callilou and hard dough bread. The meals reminded me of my parents’ cooking:) I really liked the breakfasts. A big shout out to Charlie, Sidane, Peter-Gay, Marlon and the rest of the team for their wonderful service. The grounds are beautiful. The second floor rooms are big with a nice balcony. Everyone is friendly. There was a lot of seaweed on the beach during our stay (which is not normal for Negril), but they did their best to clean the beach area. Some suggestions include keeping the bar open later than 10pm, wine should be included in the all-inclusive bar; snacks between meals and alternate lunch options such as beef patties, burgers and fries; better water pressure in the shower and there shouldn’t be an additional cost for the safe. Thank you for a great time.
I love how it's right in the middle of everything. My only complaint is the terrible mattress. I couldn't get a good night's sleep all week. The bed are only 5" thick
Beautiful property, best location and warnest friendliest staff
I go every year. I stay because of this places uniqueness.
So sad...
I stayed at Merrils 12/29/23-1/2/24. This was my 3rd time staying at the hotel. The hotel is dated and in need of upgrades but is in a great location on Seven Mile. Just steps from the beach. It's close to other restaurants and bars. Prime location which is why I wanted to stay here and bring in the new year. I also convinced my sister and good friend to stay here. The service is excellent in the restaurant and bar but the front desk is ice cold. My biggest complaint is that for the 3 days i had no hot water pressure. None. The luke warm water literally trickled out. We were moved from room 906 to 907 after complaining 3 times. Room 907 was almost as bad; luke warm water with no pressure. I took videos and showed the front desk what i was experiencing. After informing the front desk they told us it was a "outside" problem. It took 1 1/2 hrs for the water to come back on. By the end of the third day we finally had luke warm water pressure. I am sad to write this review and unfortunately will no longer patronize this hotel.
Property was great, Ms Barbara and Charlie are awesome. The main Chef was awesome, great customer service. He truly knows how to make a guess feel welcome and appreciated. Dining room needs proper training. Housekeeping was great.
Several of us reunite at Merrills annually and have a marvelous time. The resort is Jamaican owned and run with simple rustic rooms and typical Jamaican meals. I've stayed at Merrills 1 and 2 many times. I always have felt safe and comfortable. We did experience a Karen this trip who was in my opinion possibly impaired in some way. The concept of staying in a 5 star hotel as opposed to a 3 or 4 star was lost on her. She was rude to the owner almost daily and demanding and critical of the food offerings. If the menu is stating that they are serving wings during a meal that does not that you can be rude and demand chicken thighs. It was however entertaining which would be the complaint of the day. Hoping that she doesn't spoil another vacation I, for 1 will continue to frequent and enjoy all those who contribute to a marvelous escape to our likkle bit of Heaven. The chefs, the lifeguard, the bartenders, the cleaning and grounds crews, and the Grandisons have a faithful following in those of us who want simple, clean, chill accommodations so we can enjoy our friends and Jaimaca
The rooms themselves could use a little TLC but all in all, great location, good food, friendly staff. Nicely landscaped
I liked the garden view. Friendly staff. Had minor room booking mixup, but got issue resolved.
DIDN'T GET THERE UNTIL OCT31 THE FLIGHT WAS DELAYED AND DIDN'T GET THERE. ALSO HAD TO PAY, ALSO HAD NO LUGGAGE OR PILLS FOR 2 DAYS. THE PLACE WAS NICE. BUT BAR RAN OUT OF COLA! NOT VERY GOOD CHOICES AT BAR. RAN OUT OF WATER PRESSURE, NO HOT WATER.
PLUMBING OLD AND OUTDATED NO WATER PRESSURE OR HOT WATER MANY TIMES DURING STAY. HAD TO PAY $3 a day for safe. Wasn't warned of this. EV ERYTHING ELSE WAS EXCELLENT!!!!
Definitely a budget friendly hotel right on the beach with a good restaurant. The staff were hit or miss Lorenzo from the restaurant went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Karisa the waitress was very courteous and took initiative to help when her team members were away. The security guard Mr. White is also an asset to this hotel making sure we were safe and interacting with us. The beach was phenomenal with adequate beach chairs and space for some relaxation. Rooms were a little dated and it would be nice if the safe was included without cost.
Every single staff member i interacted with was excellent. The food is average but you have to realize Merrils all inclusive is a discounted compared to all the other all -inclusives hotels. The initial room i was assigned the bed was very firm. After complaining about the internet i was assigned a different room with a more comfortable bed. The internet signal is weak. The beach is fabulous.
Never again
This is a sweet place and will give you the opportunity to experience the peace and beauty of Negril The view and the beach situated on the 7-mile beach was outstanding! Please note the all-inclusive is three mealtimes - breakfast, lunch, dinner (no snacks or continuous dining options). The bar is open throughout the day. The chef is kind and amazing! The restaurant staff were attentive and phenomenal. I visited in a "slow time" which was perfect for me. Two improvements needed: 1. Update all towels (in room and beach) and linens. 2. Provide a Welcome brochure with their amenities, office hours, directions, area attractions, etc.
We always enjoy our stay at Merril’s. The food is good and the mixed drinks are great. The staff is friendly and helpful. It’s at the best spot on the beach too. It’s ideal for an affordable, quick getaway spot!
Let me start of saying that you can get a better bang for your buck somewhere else. The bathroom was sooo disgusting. It looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for ages. The tub was rusting, black and dirty, the shower curtain was a disgrace to humanity. I mentally had to prepare myself to take a shower every day. The toilet was extremely disgusting ask well. The beds in the rooms felt like rocks. The rooms need a major update. It felt like I was staying at a really cheap motel. The outside was beautiful though. Nice greenery. The pool was out of commission and it looks like it has been that way for a very long time. They have 1 area where u can dine. The food was ok, 4/10. Please keep that you will be eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch & dinner every single day and your options for these meals are very limited. For dessert you will have pound cake with a different color food coloring. If you ask for the flavor of the cake, they will tell you cherry but I can guarantee you that it is pound cake with red food coloring. They all taste the same and a staff member also confirmed for me. Most of the servers were nice. The rest of the staff members were ok and a few always has an attitude for no reason at all but I didn’t rate my experience off of that because you will experience a few bad apples everywhere you go. I spent majority of my days at a resort down the street by the name of Traveler. Their facility, food and staff was amazing. I which that I would’ve found them sooner
The food was excellent. Quiet staff was great. Very enjoyable trip. Only thing that kept me from a5 star rating was the pool was closed during my stay and the shower water pressure wasn’t very good
Check in was fast.. will definitely be back!!! Relaxing atmosphere!!!
The hotel staff is very inconsiderate. I booked a extra night just to prove when you book a room its for two persons. I suggest not booking here as a package deal. You will lose in the end.
This property is severely outdated. The staff does their best to keep up the grounds. However, the rooms need to be remodeled from the ground up. The staff goes above and beyond to accommodate your meal preferences! To sum it up, the property is overall clean but not pretty!!
Great Location. Beachfront Location is Beautiful!
I booked this hotel for 2 guest, when i arrived at the front desk the guy rudely told that only one person is allowed in the room. I explained to him that i booked thru expedia as a package for myself because my boyfriend was already in Jamaica. The hotel charged me an extra $30 per night for him to be in the room i already paid for. To prove it I booked a extra night and showed the guy at the front desk that the room is always for 2persons.. nevertheless, the hotel did not refund me my $60 ..this hotel makes there own rules and is charging extra money on a already paid for reservation.
This is my 2nd time staying here. Very safe, awesome staff, great food, & peaceful environment.
Didn't like that the refrigerator inside the room was empty, food was good staff was friendly.
Merrils 2 was amazing! Staff was pleasant, entertainment was great. My first time in Jamaica and definitely not my last. My only drawback would be the toilet not flushing properly. Other than that, great stay!
No blanket wash cloths
Merills II
The workers are sooo sweet especially Trevor! The dining area could use more fans to make it cooler to eat. However the food is cooked to perfection and it's really delicious!
This was my 3rd time staying at this hotel. The staff are wonderful and the food delicious! The bar choices are bottom shelf. There’s a fridge in room which is convenient and a mini mart right next door. The beach is beautiful and location central to everything. The water pressure was low and water tepid at best. But good for the price. I would return
Very peaceful stay.
The staff was great & the food was excellent 👌
Staff were very nice and property very clean! Laid back and really homey! Thank you to all staff: cleaning, reception, dining, security guard for taking good care of me during my stay!
You get what you pay for I guess given the price. All meals were included, not a wide variety and inconsistent on quality on taste. Drinks were limited and definitely not on the premium side. The rooms are basic with AC. The doors could be upgraded to enhance safety. The in-room safe was useless. Toiletries are limited and basic so walk with your own. I found the water in the shower and tap to have a funny smell. Overall the property itself needs renovating. Some staff were friendly, others not so much. Overall the place was disappointing, and gave off a retirement home vibe.
Perfect location and superior staff. See you next year
The room was outdated, non inviting and uncomfortable. Beds were hard and the bathrooms need work. Staff were friendly and hardworking. Nice beach.
The staff, for the most part is pleasant. The property is dated but lush and green. The pool is well kept. We stayed 3 nights and the food was a hit and miss… breakfast is really good, lunch is okay, but dinner is consistently bad. It could be the chef on duty at the time? There is no food available outside of the meal times and they are pretty strict about closing and opening the buffet line on time. the bar is quite limited and the hours it’s open are 10am-10pm. The rooms are clean but dated. Our room had rust in the bath tub, hard as a rock pillows, low water pressure in the shower and the water in the tap smelled like sulfur? Overall, the stay was fine, it’s close to a lot of places on the beach that have entertainment.
Staff was great.
Loved the privacy. The property is older, but, it is very clean. The rooms are large and spacious.
What I liked about the property was the beach area.. Lovely Beach area.. The room is beyond antiquated.. the tub was horrific I had ground floor and I felt like the tub was going to fall in there were hairs in the tub on the walls on the floor... Long Auburn hairs and I have long lovely locks.... There were glue things in the tub that look like dirt... I wrapped it out for 3 days... I don't think the first time traveler would be okay here I've traveled to Jamaica over 30 times so I know what to expect but this was way below expectations. Food choices for a joke.. I had to go out to the street each night for food.. if you stay here make sure you get breakfast that's the best meal of the day The others are cringe worthy,.. not worth half the cost... This is only an alert of what to expect
We just love Merrils! The staff and returning guests are all like family. The staff is amazing - Callie on the beach/security, Marlon & Amanda behind the bar, Diego on landscaping and so many others. Definitely get a massage on the beach from Karen! This was our third time at Merrils and we’ll be back next year. We love the real Jamaican food and the cocktails are always great.
This is my 3rd year, and will be back every year I can! Everyone is friendly, food is always fantastic. Very small resort, but big on everything else!
I would stay here again.
I‘ve been here for a month and I love it! Definitely coming back next year! The staff feel like family, the food is delicious and the beach is spectacular!
Beautiful property! Grounds man kept the property clean and tidy. Exceptional servers Barbara and Shareetha!
The service was great. The entire staff works as a team. We had small requests that were remembered and fulfilled. Walkable to many outside restaurants. Even though hotel does not provide any activities in house other than massage, there are people walking around offering all kinds of activities. You can get picked up right on the beach for some activities. Overall, great experience. Will visit again.
The customer service is great is as the food, proximity to the beach. The rooms need the bathrooms redone - tubs were really bad this year - toilets leaked around the bottom, trouble flushing in all three of our rooms. All three rooms no hot water the entire week. Charlie and Barbara that works there were exceptional. We have booked already next year however have decided if these things aren’t better it will be our last year at Merrils II
Staff remember you from year to year, excellent customer service and friendly staff. And wonderful menu of local JA food!
Excellent as always! Perfect spot to chill, enjoy the incredible beach! Great staff, comfortable rooms -no frills just clean, comfortable & located in the perfect place along the beach to explore Negril restaurants, music and nature. Lovely gardens as well….
I've stayed at Merrill's 1 previously and my stay here was equally pleasant. The staff was excellent and my room was always cleaned when I came in to relax. Lots of guests coming here due to Grand Pineapple being closed and left to God only knows by Sandals. People recognizing others from previous stays here, a friendly group sharing their Love of Jamaica and its people, overall who could dare complain? The rooms and cuisine are fairly basic with typical Jamaican foods being served along with a spattering of the occasional pastas. Breakfast was amazing, whether you wanted porridge or an omelet or eggs over easy accompanied by fresh fruits, French toast, grilled ham, etc. This resort is Jamaican owned and managed and JMHO, much preferred over the overcrowded and overpriced 5 star resorts. One of the owners gifted me with a tour of Merrills 1 which is presently contracted by an Italian group. The upgrades were amazing and there are plans to further upgrade #2. Overall, a super stay of 24 days and I can't wait to return. Friendly staff, gorgeous beach, a clean place to rest your head, and no cooking required. If you want a chill all inclusive, this is the place.
I only stay at Merrills! The staff always take care of their guests like friends!
It was good

Merrill’s is always my choice when I travel alone to Negril they are very accommodating.
