Excellent hosts. Very friendly and helpful.
Great welcome and very helpful Room was superb.
The room was very comfortable and i was able to wash my clothes. The building is over 140 years old and was recently remodeled.
Lovely welcome every time I stay here. Great standard and very comfortable. Even though it's close to the road it's quite peaceful.
Beautifully presented historic property, very comfortable
All good
Lovely beautifully kept historic hotel with great amenities.
Nice people
Helpful and friendly staff on check in. Convenient to walk or use the bus to Christchurch with a bus stop outside. Very nice room though a little small for a double but ok for one night.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the room was clean and spacious.
Phil and Gin are exceptional hosts and will ensure your stay is wonderful. You really feel like you're at home with such a warm welcome!
Gin gives you a “welcome home” greeting so sincerely and warmly that it actually feels real. The place is lovely, fun, beautiful, cozy, and a great location for walking to town or the lovely shops nearby. Wonderful value and great way to experience NZ hospitality.
Great place, friendly hosts
My host Jen and her husband were so helpful and friendly. They really made my stay enjoyable. My continental breakfast was amazing and bought my room the night before.
Very clean and convenient with jacuzzi in room!
Very clean! Has in room jacuzzi!!! Very friendly couple! A beautiful property! Convenient location! A lot of tea and coffee in the room!
The staff was very welcoming, and the room was just lovely.
We enjoyed our stay very much. Owners were very gracious and the place was well appointed.
Our room was on a busy street with lots of traffic noise.
Wayne was extremely helpful as we had a very late arrival (actually 2 am the next morning) and he accommodated us with a key that we could easily find and use to access our suite. Then the next morning he made us a delicious Cappiccino😁
Very helpful manager.
The photograph on the website make it appear that you will stay in the stately main building. Instead we stayed in what is best described as a drab, mid century motel unit with kitchenette next to a main road.
The hosts and staff went above and beyond to fulfill our needs. The room was extremely clean, fresh and welcoming. The bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in any hotel we have stayed in across Africa and Europe. An unforgettable stay for 11 nights.
Such friendly staff and great studio Near cafes and shops Def recommend
excellent ,comfortable ,safe , and well looked after by managers
The owners were very nice and friendly and great location.
Great service and clean. Mangers went out of their way to accommodate us.
An absolutely beautiful old villa, immaculately updated. Beautifully kept garden. Great parking areas. The owner/manager was extremely polite and helpful. I think we were upgraded to a larger room, if we weren't the cost for a room in such a beautiful manor was very reasonable.
We only had one night but we were well looked after and had an excellent night's sleep in a beautiful studio.
Amazing
Amazing place Super clean, excellent service , stay in a family room with one queen and one twin bed ... huge ... had a small fridge, microwave and everything .... excellent place
Excellent option.
Excellent option when staying in Christchurch. Very friendly hosts and clean and well appointed rooms. They even have bikes available should you wish to ride around the city.
This was a relaxing experience. The owners were friendly and knowledgeable of the area. The room was clean and comfortable! No complaints here! We will be back and highly recommend!
Couldn’t fault this place on anything. Wayne checked us in and was very helpful with advice on things to do and how best to get there. While Merivale is a very nice suburb with supermarkets and places to eat very close by, it is still a decent 20-30min walk into the city centre. It didn’t bother us at all as we had a car.
Fantastic staff service. Friendly helpful professional. Good location for walking or driving to city. Good eateries in walking distance too.
Fabulous place, only wished we'd had more time there. Arrived llater than planned, but had a great welcome from Karen who made us feel so welcome. Room so well equipped and very high standard, could have done with a week there! Seemed to be well placed for town centre and local amenities. Would definatey recommend and would use again at an instant. Wayne also super friendly.
Excellent
Great location. Close to shops, restaurants and public transport. Wayne is a great host and I was treated as an important guest. Would highly recommend.
Friendly and helpful reception. Beautiful, historic building with updated interior.
Friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms in a beautiful Manor House. Easy distance from Merivale and city centre.
Friendly staff, spacious, clean, good location, beautiful building.
Great stay, great service, tidy room, would stay again!
Super friendly and helpful
Great place - sorry not to stay longer. Lovely friendly owners who really helped us out when we needed advice and assistance on a public holiday when our child was ill. Keep up the good work.
A little disappointing.
Neat and tidy small room. Although a stovetop was available we were told that you could not cook in the room as it created smells. When we complained we were provided with a frypan but asked to leave the windows and door open if we used it. The room had a view of the main road and it was very noisy. The hosts were friendly.
Nice apartment in a quaint neighbourhood. We loved it !
Nice neat and clean Motel, friendly staff, location is very good, we could walk into the city centre and to the shopping centre.
Apartment was great, clean, modern and spacious. A good accommodation for a group or family. Hosts were lovely. Stairs are a bit steep for toddlers.
Wayne and Karen made us feel very welcome as their guests. Merivale is a very nice part of town. Lots of interesting architecture. We had a fine dinner at JVD a short walk down the street. Pretty close to the Christchurch Towne centre and not far from the airport.
Stunning Boutique Hotel with plenty of Style
Very friendly and helpful owners. Wayne is a star.
Highly recommended!
Wonderful
Wonderful place to stay. I stay there often. It’s perfect.
Excellent one night stay - welcome and ongoing care from Wayne was second to none. Won't stay anywhere else now when visiting Chch
Fantastic place, nice location, great owners!
The hotel is near Hagley Park: great Botanical Garden and perfect for a walk or jog. Nearby the apartments were supermarkets, ATM's, Cafe Metro, Bridgettes (sp?) and Tuto Bene Italian restaurants among other convenient places to visit. Wayne and Karen are great hosts and make you feel welcome right away, great people! The apartments are very practical and functioned perfectly. The apartment has three levels, but since we are in our 50's and in relatively good shape, it was not a problem to go up and down the stairs. The washer and dryer were extremely helpful since we had a lot of laundry! If you desire privacy, comfort, and convenience, we recommend these apartments! There is not a phone in the apartment to call the office, but if you walk to the reception, the owners were always there to assist you. Edgard and Maria Alice
Close to shops and excellent restuarants
Staff very friendly and a excellent knowledge of the area and surrounds
We had the room closest to Papanui Road,
We felt like the traffic was driving through our door. We got no sleep. Apart from this and the room being a little smelly from what I don’t know it was ok.
Great size for a family
Great size unit, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms over 3 levels. Decor and furnishings were nice. Parking was a bit tricky. A pity there was no Sky channel for sport. Location is good and a minute walk to a nice cafe.
Beautiful hotel with a lot of charm!
Amazing time at Merivale Manor! The hotel is beautiful with a ton of charm. It was clean and tidy and the staff were amazingly friendly and accommodating! Would go back in a heartbeat! Thanks for the wonderful experience.
Really handy to restaurants and shopping.
We only stayed one night but would stay again next time.
Perfect Place
We loved our reception.... very friendly and informative. The apartment had everything we needed including toast for the morning . We returned two days later after the Tranz Rail to the West Coast and back and were accomodated in the Manor -- beautiful room , private and very comfortable. Can't recommend the Merivale Manor highly enough---the only place to stay in Christchurch John and Rebecca
Great place to stay
Great place to stay, being close to the city and a central location. Plenty of restaurants and shops around, with great recommendations from the owners. Friendly staff and a community vibe. A genuine kiwi experience - fun, friendly and easy.
Nice accomodation central to the city .
Good experience with no complaints. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Loved the old house part.
A larger bed and perculated coffee would have made it near perfect
Great Location and Spacious Room
I really enjoyed my stay at Merivale Manor. The location was great; Well within walking distance of great restaurants as well as the Hagley Park and Botanical Gardens. The fact that the Manor has free laundry services for guests was an unexpected bonus. Everyone of the staff members that I encountered were eager to answer any questions about the area and even help me pick out a restaurant to try. I would gladly stay here again the next time that I travel back to Christchurch, New Zealand! I highly recommend the Merivale Manor.
Great value for money
Merivale is well positioned close to the city and beautifully appointed. Highly recommend it
Great place to stay after stage one of cycle ride.
Lovely people, great food, cosy lounge with fire, comfy bed.
A Thoughtful & Comfortable Lodging Place
This is an extremely well maintained and charming, historic property with warm and welcoming hosts. The location is perfect, being convenient to the city center and the airport. It is in a lovely and active suburb of the city and we would highly recommend booking this sight for your holiday stay. Thank you for your warm hospitality, Karen & Wayne!
Very noisy !!
Very noisy room. Before booking this hotel, don't forget to look at a map ! It is situated along one of the main road in Christchurch and there is a bus stop just in front of it !!! The bedroom is nice .... but the bed is so unconfortable !!!
very small room. Excellent assistance by staff for rental car and restaurants. would return, but in a bigger room. Highly recommend hospitality.
Comfortable room and friendly staf.
Our room was very comfortable and Brian was very helpful. Recommended a great Italian restaurant within walking distance. We were in a unit at the street. Try to get a unit further from the street. With the windows closed, we had no trouble sleeping but we usually like t have windows open.
Nice hotel, friendly staff, but awfully noisy
As much as the studio rooms are comfortable, setup for long stay with all basic kitchen appliances, their location right on the main road means that at any hour of the day/night, traffic makes it very noisy ... not great if you want to have a quiet night sleep
Quiet & charming
Very helpful staff, luxurious room in big house - clean, with big windows, high ceilings & the best shower ever. Highly recommend!
Nice but noisy road
Staff were friendly and room was fine but can't help but think what a shame it is that this beautiful heritage hotel has been turned into so many modern Apts leaving only the outside shell of the house. If you want a quiet night's sleep don't bookstore rooms along the driveway. The main road is very busy and noisy. Great central location though in lovely Medical.
Excellent stay
Staff were very accommodating, room was tidy and had everything I needed. I'll be be back again!
Perfect place to stay in town, close to everything
Great place, new, clean, super friendly staff. Close to everything. Just perfect!
Lovely motel
Comfortable rooms in the manor house. Rooms clean but with character. Owner and staff very friendly and helpful
Greatly appreciated the helpful staff.
Spacious, Updated Apartments Near City Center
We stayed in the apartments across the street from the rest of the hotel. They were three stories tall and very nice. Breakie is milk, toast, and cereal. The B line bus is right outside but you don't need it as the city centre is only a ten minute walk away.
Great place 10min walk from city centre
Easy walking distance to city centre, bus stop outside hotel for those who don't like to walk.
Nice Hotel Good size room
The hotel is not near anything in particular in Christchurch and is on no central transportation route. We had to take a taxi from the train station to the property which turned out to be away from city center, The room was very comfortable, quiet, and a good size. But the hotel was listed on Expedia as providing a full breakfast. This was a major selling point and we paid a higher rate than other comparable properties (perhaps in more central locations) to get the full breakfast. When we got to the property they handed us two pieces of frozen bread and told us to pop them in the toaster in the morning and there was some packaged jellies we could use as spreads -- not a full breakfast. When I asked about this, the personal the front desk simply said, "oh, we do not offer a full breakfast; I don't know how that got in the Expedia description!" No correction to the compensation was made or offered however.
Good place to stay
Very nice setting. Proprietors friendly and welcoming. Laundry facilities available. Toast and preserves mentioned above is one of those small things which makes a difference. Would recommend.
Highly recommend Merivale Manor!
accommodation was extremely spacious! cont'l breakfast included, laundry facilities in the unit, friendly staff, great value!
Check in was quick and easy, Brian was great. I liked the amenities given. We liked how spacious, modern and nice the apartment was. The only thing I didn't like was the room we were assigned was across the street, no cross walk close by so we had to cross traffic. A little inconvenient and scary with baggage in tow.
Great old manor house.
Great stay. The manor house is a very impressive building which has been renovated following the 2011 earthquake, restoring many of the original features. Our room was very small, but to be fair it was described as such. Very compact. We viewed the suites and wished we'd paid the extra for the upgrade.
I thought the room would have been cleaner due to the ratings. The downstairs room smelled really moldy. I think the smell was coming from the bathroom. I hit my head every time in the bathroom downstairs, because of the layout above the toilet . I stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment . The breakfast was not as great as they make it sound. You get some bread , and milk upon your arrival.
Lovely motel close to the city center
Brian and Gwyn are great hosts. The setting and room in an old Victorian house was unique and lovely. Located in a posh neighborhood close to the city center and Hagley Park.
Great staff, good location
The staff assisted with all my questions about the location, food, wine and the best way to get around the city. The room was very clean, tidy and totally comfortable. From the time we arrived to the time we departed the expierance was outstanding.
Great
Great place to stay. Very comfortable.
Noisy
Stayed there for one night, it's a nightmare. First of all, the noise from the Papanui road is immense, one of the busiest road in CHC, cars passing at high speed all the time ,even at midnight. And the double glazed window was just useless. Then, the "full breakfast " issue. I booked through Expedia, which says full breakfast was included. However, we were told there was no such a thing, instead, we were given some free bread and milk to cook our own breakfast in the morning. So....Shocking. And the fridge was not working properly, always creating huge noises from time to time, the management really should check those fridges and we think there were rats behind the fridge, we have those cracking sound all the night.
Great accommodation in Manor House
Superb hosts. Lovely old house renovated to high specification. Comfortable, spacious room. Free laundry. Breakfast simple but included in price.
Nice hotel with very good staff
It is a wonderful hotel with very good location, very close to good japanese and italian resturants. Very delicate decoration and careful maitenance. And most surprised, the considerable staff upgrade our standard room to the wonderful suite for free, because she thought the standard queen room was a littel bit small for us. Many thanks and impressive stay. I will choose it when I go to Christchurch.
Excellent base for Christchurch
Great place to say whilst visiting the city. Bus stop outside the entrance enabled us to get straight into Christchurch. Very helpful staff - organised us a taxi one evening when we were running a little late for our dinner reservation and another to get us to the airport with a friendly smile. Certainly would recommend.
Lovely hotel in a historic building
This is a good place to base your visit to Christchurch. It is a convenient location within walking distance to the town centre. There are also many good restaurants and stores nearby.
Nice but small room.
Room was ok but small; it was tough to squeeze the case past the bed and when the TV was out there was risk of banging your head. About a 15 walk into town centre. Milk and bread to toast was offered as breakfast on the first night, we had to go and ask for it on the next. The communal areas are beautifully decorated.
19th century NZ charm
Very friendly and attentive hosts. Easily approachable and nothing seemed too much trouble. Easy walk to town centre and Botanic Gardens other attractions and restaurants. All in all a very pleasant stay.
Three day stay
Spacious, clean and modern. Good location and helpful managers. However, lack of sky TV and incomplete cutlery detract from the otherwise excellent venue.
Superb base for Christchurch.
I booked the Merrivale Manor after looking at online reviews. The building is every bit as stunning as the photos suggest. The welcome from Warren and Gwyneth was lovely and they really do go the extra mile to make you welcome. The hotel is a short walk from the suburb of Merrivale with some nice bars and restaurants. It's about 10 minutes walk from the city centre and the botanic gardens - a must see. We can thoroughly recommend it.
Nice, clean hotel
Very friendly and welcoming staff. We arrived and were able to check in almost five hours before designated check-in and after a fourteen hour flight that was most appreciated. I would definitely stay again
Weekend stopover
Comfortable weekend stopover and handy to local shops and restaurants - nice hosts and pleasant surroundings.
Good location
Comfortable clean and spacious room. Very friendly and helpful staff. Complimentary self-serve laundry is a plus. Bit noisy if don't get a room further from street as it is on main traffic area.
Excellent service, quality and excellent location
Excellent service, quality, comfort, location and super clean. Best place to stay in Chch
Very comfortable.
We were exhausted when we arrived. They upgraded us to a quieter room unasked. Room was comfortable and the manor was easy to find. Nice eateries close by as well.
