Very nice place
The staff were very nice and friendly, they allowed us to drop our luggage off early even before check in time. The place was nice and comfortable. The location was in the centre of the city, everything was in walkable distance. Would definitely come back again.
It was a real unexpected unplanned joy - highly recommended
Stay in comfort
I had some business to do in the city so I thought I’ll stay overnight. The Mantra was delightful to stay at friendly staff clean marvellous setting
Wonderful
Amazing location and an enjoyable stay. Angelo from front desk was a fantastic addition to reception staff, great sense of humour and welcoming.
Negatives: 1.) We booked 2 one- bdr. apartements with balconies, however, not one chair or outdoor table on these balconies. Totally empty. The idea was to sit in the sun sometimes abs get some fresh air. This is why you hook a balcony and ist more. 2.) no recycling bins in any of the 4 units in our group, though signs how much the hotel tries to recycle. 3.) breakfast was good, the coffee machine was the cause of much frustration with lots of guests. Positives: Very friendly staff, from the reception to the staff in the breakfast are, always helpful and service with a smile. Thank you!
Always great stay here
I liked the location, it was close to Trams, China town , city centre The staff were friendly and the house keeping staff did a great job I would stay there again
Fantastic property in a centrally located position with Melbourne’s Chinatown at your door and equally central to Melbournes Paris End of the CBD. Trams a two minute walk.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble
Close to lots of restaurants.
Staff is nice and professional
We liked the matra, it was clean and had a grerat buffet breakfast.
Great location & facilities.
The location is wonderful, room is clean and well maintained. Mattress was ordinary, had pool towels instead of bath towels the bathroom and there was rubbish in the hall way over the 2 days.
Stayed for 8 days over Xmas and Nye. 1 br apartment. Bath shower ok but hot water was either hot or cold no inbetween. Roof leaked and bath was cracked. But we did manage to get a different room with slight upgrade. Soundproofed rooms were goodm housekeeping was ok.
the hotel staff were excellent.
Nice and clean hotel.
This location is perfect for dining and shopping, close to China town.
Great bed and friendly helpful staff
Value for money
Stay at the Mantra on Russell
We stayed in a two bedroom apartment style room. It was enough space for two adults and two kids. The room was clean and the staff were friendly. Would recommend!
Good location. Not a super modern hotel, but clean and comfy. I would stay here again. It was very easy to navigate the city either by foot or tram from this property. Minor criticism - I dislike having a shower over bath (as a lot of people do), and the fact the bathroom door opens against the vanity. The bathroom size is fine, but the configuration is just a little annoying. Our room size was great and the little kitchenette was very handy. Bed/pillows were comfy. Staff at reception were always pleasant and helpful. The buffet breakfast was okay, but we only had it one morning - went elsewhere the following mornings. If you have to pay for a barista made coffee, it makes sense to find a coffee shop that makes them to your liking, and not pay the extra $s on top of your buffet pricing. Overall, I think property provided what I expected, and as I said earlier, I would stay here again.
My stay was very comfortable and the staff were excellent
Friendly staff and great location.
Had a great stay. Room excellent, parking in complex and close to restaurants and theatre
We enjoyed our time at Mantra on Russell. We liked the set up of the room and the kids used the pool. The buffet breakfast was good for adults too. A few suggestions to lift rating: clean outside of windows (they were very dirty) add more ‘kid friendly’ options to buffet like pancakes/waffles. Lovely service from front counter staff. Thank you!
We have stayed here a number of times and every room was of the same high standard. Desk staff were always polite and friendly.
Fairly average stay. Overnight front desk staff were friendly and the room was set up with sofa bed as requested. The rooms on the Russel St side don’t block out much of the street noise which was more of an issue in a Saturday night, but somewhat expected in the middle of the CBD. The pool area is a bit dated but had a nice big heated spa. The pool towels had run out and after calling it took 45 minutes for more to arrive.
Great last minute stay ,Quick check in . Great size for a one bedroom room and bonus of a balcony .
I pre-paid for my room and was asked for payment again when I arrived and once again when I left. I ended up paying twice. This ruined my experience
2- star room, 5- star breakfast
Great breakfast, nice staff, 1 bedroom apartment was gigantic. Unfortunately, the rooms are quite shabby, not well cleaned, thread bare towels, etc. And the hardest beds and pillows I've ever encountered so just am uncomfortable stay other than the top rate staff and amazing breakfast, truly best breakfast we had in a month of travels and the gentleman running the breakfast room was amazing.
Owl stay was great ive stay a few time at mantra on Russell its great place to stay easy to walk everwhere close to everything front desk just great and easy to deal with nothing a problem thanks for a great stay ive be back
Great location close to everything, great two bedroom apartment very comfortable, very friendly staff
Suitable hotel for my needs. It would have been good it a Melbourne map or durections to train were available.
Comfort on Russell
It’s was a couples retreat in my favourite part in The City of Melbourne. The Mantra on Russell has it all, clean and spacious Apartments, parking, pool, breakfast buffet with Friendly staff to top it off. It Wass an absolute delight staying there, most definitely do it again.
I will stay at this property again .
Enjoyed my stay once again, great friendly staff
The staff were really helpful and friendly.
I enjoyed this place. Rooms were spacious, clean & comfortable. The staff were all pleasant, professional & very helpful. I’d stay here again.
Close to the music venue
My room had a severe water leak and it took multiple calls before anyone would come to help me. Eventually they came to check and could see how the room had flooded . I was moved to a larger room which was very comfortable.
All of the staff super attentive and professional
Staff were very helful, and you were always number 1 priority..
Pleasantly surprised
We recently spent two nights as a family of five. Our room was spacious, clean and beds comfortable. We enjoyed the pool sauna and spa. Staff friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay again.
Location and staff were great. Definitely would stay there again
Quiet and well placed in Melbourne. Always a good stay. Staff excellent in all respects. I'll be back.
Fabulous location and close to restaurants
Easy access ,room excellent and easy to get to the places I wanted to go to. Excellent welcome staff.
Some of the drains weren’t clean, didn’t have many kitchen accessories. Parts of the room were dusty as well
Handy to transport or to walk the city
Great location
Staff are great, comfortable beds, not noisy.
Good location.
Unfortunately this property was advertised as having room service and FOXTEL when in actual fact it had neither. As we were spending a considerable amount of time in our room, I specifically picked this place BECAUSE it supposedly had these amenities. We couldn't even watch the regular channels on TV because it was constantly glitching. We also spent quite a bit of money on ubereats because there was no room service as advertised. The place was essentially an apartment when we were wanting an apartment/hotel experience.
Great location
We loved our stay, beds were comfy, close to everything.
Only did house keeping on request. Great location. Staff always friendly.
Having a pool onsite was the most important feature of this hotel and the main reason I booked it along with the aparthotel features.
Fantastic location within walking distance of shops, dining and transport. It isn’t a full service hotel, but if hotel dining and room service isn’t something you’re after, this is a great option. Nice pool and hot tub. Breakfast buffet has a decent range of foods and they make good coffee (at additional cost). Beds are a bit springy and soft but not uncomfortable. Nespresso machine in the kitchen is a bonus. Water refilling station outside the breakfast area is great for filling your bottles with cold flat or sparkling water to take out with you for the day. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Minor irritations - wifi not great; weak exhaust fan in bathroom means it gets pretty steamy and the mirror gets badly fogged; power points in bedrooms were single and taken by lamps and very inaccessible, which was dreadful for charging devices by the bed; car parking was awkward. Nice atmosphere. I would definitely stay again.
Quiet apartment in an excellent location. Beware! Carparking costs 45 AUD per night, which is extortionate. If you simply drive into a nearby car park you will pay substantially less. Very poor form on part of apartment management.
Good location, overall average. Quite dusty, felt the air in the rooms was quite stuffy. Carpet at the room entry has not been vacuumed for a while, there was a layer of dust on it. Needs a bit of love, i.e. small details like broken tiles in the bathroom and loose grout need to be fixed, a fresh lick of paint on high touch areas. Christmas decorations looked sad, and some common areas really need to be redone, looked dirty and run-down (balconies, pool). Had a huge black spider in one of the room ceiling corners - obviously the housekeeping missed to see it! Did not feel very welcome, staff on duty were quite disinterested… we’ll not be coming back.
Super convenient location, which had access to everything that you'd need. Ideal location for really good shopping and eateries.
Love having the little kitchenette, worked well for us will return again. Good staff there around the clock.
Kids enjoy the indoor pool and spa. Nice gym to work out in after after a full day of eat and shopping.
Staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Rooms and facilities clean, modern and spacious. Good location, great stay
Couldn’t fault the service, cleanliness or amenities. The separate bedroom was perfect and suited our family needs. We will be back again!
We have frequently stayed at the Mantra on Russell over the past 30 years and it has remained consistent. It's location is good for central Melbourne access.
We loved our accommodation, very spacious and well equipped. Our location was great and close to some great eating places. Would definitely recommend the mantra on russell.
Love Mantra Hotel
Perfect location and room!
We booked a two bedroom apartment and it was honestly so spacious! Great having two toilets, perfect layout, great kitchen and so nice to have a balcony with lovely views from level 13. The indoor pool was really great to have and our two little ones enjoyed immensely. Our biggest thank you to staff who were friendly and so accomodating, especially during check out. The location was perfect! We’ve been to Melbourne many times before and this one was perfect to access good food and also things we wanted to do nearby and in Fitzroy. We’ll definitely be back!
The service and knowledge of the young lady on the bar was an embarrassment last Friday night. She was so helpful but completely untrained with liquor. She said did not have whisky and brandy so went behind the counter and got the bottles down. I asked for soda on the side with my whisky and she filled the whisky glass with tonic water. I pointed this out to her and she obligingly made me another whisky. She was very pleasant but was we thought (4 of us ) an embarrassment to Mantra. The brandy my wife had was drowned in dry ginger ale. The accomodation and general service for the week we had there was excellent . A great location.
No issues, friendly staff and accomodating.
Great location for that part of the city for our stay
Very happy with our stay!
Great pool for kids
Friendly & helpful staff. Many thanks for a great stay.
Great location staff really helped
Enjoyed being close to everything we required. Would stay again.
A comfortable night in the CBD. Close to everything we needed. Would stay again.
Very clean rooms and amazing staff
Not bad. Pool was great.breakfast was average. Room was ok.
Clean room to stay, clean kitchen ect basic but all you need. Basic t.v, no netflix or other streaming services. Easy parking & shopping. All near china town so heaps of food options.
Was very convenient, breakfast was very average, for $22 it was very limited but rooms were clean, comfy beds and the pool/gym was fantastic. People on the desk were great.
Booked on Expedia requested a particular room which we were in previously, didn’t get, requested twin beds, didn’t get, requested room where bathroom wasn’t in bedroom, didn’t get and for all 3 requests there was no communication to advise otherwise. The queen or twin was a selection at booking time and I chose twin but still didn’t get it.
The functionality of the rooms bring down the experience. The toilet lid doesn't stay up so when you go to sit down you sit on the toilet seat AND the glass door in the shower doesn't stay open, constantly hitting you. No Fan in the bathroom but the smoke alarm is right outside the door which means the steam from the shower sets it off, resulting in a call from reception. I mean.... for the amount of money I pay for the room I expect MINIMALLY the function to be there.
Great property, balcony, sauna, spa, pool. Large apartment that was comfortable
Great accommodation in an easily accessible location
Had a great stay thank you
CENTRAL AND WSLKUNG DISTABCE TO EVERTTHING WE NEEDED. STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. My room was very clean. Beautiful buffet breakfast. Easy access to trams for shopping. Highly recommended.
Excellent location - so many great food options, places to explore and also near the Princess Theatre. The rooms were quiet and dark overnight, the beds were comfy, the room was clean and spacious, and the staff were lovely. Would definitely stay here again. The only down side was the slow lifts
Lift access was pathetic, had to use the stairs when checking out carrying our bags which was very dangerous for my child. Open/off milk in the fridge- was replaced promptly when asked.
I spent a lot of time researching hotels and it junk I mailed it with mantra on Russell, it was very close to the city centre but also easy walking distance to Lygon Street (great eating) and all the touristy things we had booked.
Great location
The front desk staff were so helpful. We had breakfast as part of the stay and enjoyed the food and spaciousness of the restaurant. Spa was great, pool a tad cold.
Overall good - issues on soap in the shower requested on 2 days but otherwise very goog
Unfortunately after sleeping on the fold out bed I have suffered from bed bug bites! Not happy Jan
Great location lovely staff
Need to get the third lift operational as two was not enough
Perfect location for us to check in and walk to the theater. Amazing food all within walking distance.

I stayed and was put into one of the accessible rooms on level 6. This in itself was not an issue apart from the amount of water that’s left on the ground after a shower. The shower curtain is far too small for its purpose. Not sure who designed this but it’s not appropriate and allows for water to flood the whole area. The rooms are right next to the pool and gym entrance on level 6. The constant noise of the gym/pool door banging in the wall is annoying to say the least. Up to 9:30 or so at night and then from 6am you can hear it. This is poor design and should have been considered when they put the doors there. I have stayed here before but to be honest it’s now run down and amenities pretty poor for a hotel that is supposed to be of this standard. I wouldn’t recommend it.
