Poor Room Comfort
It wasntyso good unfortunately. The air conditioning system was pumping out warm air and it was very loud outside. The bed wasn't (perhaps the mattress protector) wasn't comfortable and had sharp/bumpy bits in the centre of the bed. The duvet and pillows were too warm for the room conditions. Very disappointing given the cost of the room for one night.
Always great, will come back
Perfect location! Stayed here a few times, business and leisure and always enjoyed it. Great team, nice rooms.
Friendly staff. Lovely public space to relax. Very comfy bed.
Great spot in East London! Highly recommend for folks who want to be just slightly removed from the crowds and tourists in central London. I found the transportation options nearby very convenient - there are buses that come all day long right outside of the hotel. It's a 3 minute walk to the overground train that will take you to Liverpool Street station in 10 minutes, and short walk to Bethnal Green to get on the central line. Lots of cute shops and cafes in the area (highly recommend grabbing coffee and a sandwich at 3rd Culture in Hackney). Walking distance to Columbia Rd Flower Market, Brick Lane, and Shoreditch. Hotel was clean, had fun decor, and the rooms were quiet at night.
Great value and very convenient for my needs. Great restaurant and attentive staff, always enjoy a comfortable stay at Mamma Shelter
Perfect experience
Very clean with an eclectic style and a chic twist. I felt very comfortable and was very well taken care of by the staff.
Nice chilled vibe, good food.
thoroughly average, but good value
thoroughly average, but good value
lovely hotel central to everything
Loved mama shelter London!
Such a cool hotel - love the vibes, reasonably priced and comfortable rooms. Perfectly located for easy access to Victoria Park on foot.
inattentive staff
While the hotel was nice, the restaurant staff and the reception staff were inattentive. Both times we visited the restaurant the staff was strange. We asked for some classes as the room doesn’t provide any, and the staff member just looked at us strangely. There seem to also be a some strange attitude from the receptionists, no smiles nothing. The bed was okay but pillows are horrible. For that price I think there’s better hotels in the area. This was meant to be a staycation and we are from London so it was odd how the staff behaved
Mama shelter is a very cool place to stay, right in the middle of Shoreditch. Rooms are clean and comfortable with everything you need. Only thing to flag is the noise. There is a bar/club on the ground floor and the music can be heard in the rooms on the 1st floor until midnight…. So if you’re looking to sleep, ask for a room higher up. The hotel is also on a main road with traffic 24/7 so if you’re a light sleeper, ear plugs are recommended. We needed up changing rooms late in the evening because of the noise and the staff were very accommodating and helpful, but it’s a shame it’s so loud and there clearly isn’t enough soundproofing in the rooms on the first floor.
Can’t complain for the price, and the room was good for what it’s worth. But little to no care with amenities, no coffee machine, and no water at check in/in the rooms
Hotel review
It was a lovely hotel and they let us check in early, which was very helpful. The location was perfect for the train and busses. The water pressure on the shower was disappointing and the duvet was too small for the bedding and meant it was cold at times as it didn’t cover us both.
Welcoming and convenient
Great location and good ambience
Quirky interior, friendly staff easy access to local area and transport links to centre. Great!
Spacious room, friendly staff, and gym!
Enjoyable stay
Really lovely stay at a fabulous place! Food, room, design, service - all fantastic!
Very nice stay, nice vibe and friendly staff.
Nice with friendly staff and good vibes
I liked this hotel and the staff was very friendly. The rooms were as described and there were bars and shops within walking distance.
Wonderful
The staff at the front desk were exceptional...the very loud music is not required Lower it down Not needed while eating
nice
.
Very well comunicated with the rest of London areas. Too much noise and parties in the evening.
Clean but shabby
Room was clean, but very, very shabby. HVAC system fan made a horrible clunking noise no matter how low the fan speed was, so I had to keep it turned off, which meant the room felt clammy and airless the whole time. Electric wall plugs were loose, bathroom door wouldn't stay open, and the clothes bar was broken and hanging onto the wall by one little screw. Bed linens were clean, but the mattress was like sleeping on a plank: overly firm with no cushion whatsoever. Spa water in the lobby was fine, but there was no water in the room, and no room service to get any. Need water in the middle of the night? You have to go all the way down to the lobby and hope they have clean glasses at the water station.
Very expensive , not a little bottle of water in the room, had to pay extra for proper cofffee at breakfast, low ceiling rooms with thin walls, bar and restaurant was not available for guests, because of Christmas parties
Mama does it again
This is our second stay at a mama shelter and it was fabulous per usual. Great vibe, clean and great staff. We stayed on the ground floor and were concerned we’d hate it, but it was large and comfy!
Akin to trying to sleep in a torture chamber
I'd like a call back to one of your team. Trying to sleep in room 206 was akin to being subjected to torture. I'm not a light sleeper - far from it. And the hotel wasn't busy. But the heavy, self-closing fire doors were banging all night. The lifts whirred constantly. I was up over 5x and got next to no sleep. Whilst effort has been put into the brand - form should follow function. And having a room with poor sound proofing next to these noisy, necessary elements *(lift, fire doors) is appalling design. Sorry - but I have to say it was the worst hotel I can remember staying in for quite some time. On a plus - the reception staff were excellent. Thank you to them.
Great i would return
Excellent staff support and sincere interest in satisfying the needs of the guests.
Great hotel
Took the family to London for day and night really enjoyed our stay very funky quirky clean hotel the staff were so friendly couldn’t do enough
I love the vibe in this hotel!
Nice rooms with desk and large seating area for working. Great facilities - tea , coffee (well that was instant but clipper one so nicer brand but tbh I just bought coffee every day). Nice you could watch free movies , and get TV channels from other countries like Italy. Helpful staff. Cleaned the room every day that we needed. Great location - my favourite area in London in Hackney near London fields and broadway market. Convenient bus route to take you into the centre. Only thing is the room was a bit dark because the window was looking out to the inner court yard. So felt a bit dark for most of the day -even if it was a sunny day. I struggle with that a bit in winter anyway. Oh and they have free retro arcade games which was fun! Even though they have a bar with a do, it wasn’t noisy - couldn’t hear any noise from the room. Overall great stay.
Great location, great hotel
This is my home away from home in London! Super friendly staff, nice clean rooms and great service when you need it. I used to live down the road so this is the perfect location to get the local experience of east london. The two best markets in London within a short walking distance. You can even drop of your purchases in your room before walking to the next one. Great clubs nearby too if that's your vibe. Great value for money too. It's as good as the other nearby options that are twice the price.
Great spot
My second stay at Mama Shelter, it was even nicer than I remember. Highly recommend!
Very close to trains, people very nice, room was good, enjoyed being there
Very nice hotel, bit odd and a little bit noisy from the neighbours but yeah a good hotel to stay
Hotel is modern and nice. Rooms are basic, for the family room you’re in the basement with no natural light or windows, but for a bed it’s good enough.
Perfect getaway
Loved everything about our stay.
Wanted to love, forced to grin and bear it
The service was great but the accommodations were lacking. The bed I slept in had someone else’s hair on the pillows and was *itchy*. Could be better.
Lovely hotel except room smell
Lovely hotel, lovely stay except the room honestly smelt like sewage (418)
We asked for extra pillows om out second night (of five) and they were taken away the next day. Great breakfast though! And good size on the TV.
Stylish
I think the styling of this hotel is really beautiful. Honestly was quite impressive. Very eclectic and interesting. Some cleaning issues in the bathroom but not enough to turn you off
Lovely hotel. Great restaurant. The staff were all so friendly and helpful.
I like staying at Mama Shelter when I can. It has a great vibe, the rooms are comfy and the staff are really nice. It’s one of my favorite places to stay in London, with a great price to match!
Lovely place to stay. Highly tecommended
Great value! Comfortable rooms with fun designs and friendly staff. Good restaurant on site and many other bar, restaurant, café options nearby. Very close to public transport (Cambridge Heath overground & Bethnal Green tube), with easy access to airports. Best place I've stayed in London *by far*. Would definitely return!
This was my first time in London, and I really enjoyed my time here thanks to Mama Shelter. The area is nice but the overground station is a bit far, but other means of transportation (bus/overground) are right next to the hotel. Central London is one short bus ride away, and there are a bunch of good restaurants nearby. I opted to buy the breakfast for about $20 more per person, and I thought it was definitely worth it. It is a buffet style breakfast with great options for all kinds of diets/restrictions. The food was solid, and I would recommend getting it if you aren't venturing out for breakfast everyday. The only negative thing I would say about mama shelter is that the area is less touristy, and you will have to travel quite a distance depending on where you want to go/see. Mama Shelter happened to be at the center of most of my itinerary, and worked perfectly for me.
Comfy bed, comfy room, gloriously extra decor, friendly staff, magnificent breakfast.
Very noisy at night loud music and doors banging until four in the morning, not the sort of place to go to when you're working and need a good night's sleep.
Mitski Night
My dad chose this funky place as it was close to the festival on Victoria Park. Even though we arrived early for check-in, the friendly reception staff allowed us to check in our travel cases and place them in a secure room. Good size room for twin beds, and good size ensuite. Hotel ambience and staff was friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend, we'll book again for the next time we stop over this side of London.
This is a cool and quirky hotel, friendly staff, comfortable room. Lots of options for breakfast. Convenient for Shoreditch, Hackney, Victoria Park. Recommended! The lift could do with a bit of maintenance (some buttons not working)
Cool aesthetic and good customer service. I'd never been to a hotel with this sort of system, but you have to jam your room key card into a device just inside your room in order to turn your lights on and off. A few of the bulbs in my room were burnt out so in that way it felt well used, but it was still very attractive and comfortable. The pillows were heavenly 💤
Thanks for a great stay!
Nice hotel, local to Victoria park
Good location for a festival in Victoria park. Easy to get to, overground tube station nearby with good connections to central London & rail network. Room had everything you would need. Table & bench was a bit weird, but fine. Decor in the hotel e.g. dining room etc was nice & quirky.
Give Me Shelter
Really enjoyed the hotel, great staff, comfy room, super breakfast, just one issue, it took me three attempts to get an iron delivered to the room. Would definitely go back.
H
Great hotel Friendly staff Great breakfast
Love the mama! Have stayed her 2x now and it’s great!!
The only thing going for this hotel is the lobby . The beds are hard , the walls are thin and the AC barely works . Front desk was friendly on day one and then they had a male front desk employee dressed casually and not friendly . I will not be staying here again .
Beautiful hotel amazing friendly people
Breakfast was very good many options and varieties
Brilliant as always
Lovely staff and a clean comfortable room.
Fabulous
Absolutely fantastic atmosphere, great staff, great drinks. The breakfast is the best i've had in a long time .
Liked to room but the bed was hard and the down pillows uncomfortable
All good except TV didn’t work
TV didn’t work the whole time
Took my Mother (With mobility issues)
We had a great time from start to finish. I took my Mum for her Birthday to meet other family members for a dinner in the restaurant. The rooms are very simple, but clean & colourful and exactly what we needed. I also brought my dog and he got a bed and two bowls. The food was really really good. I had the vegan burger and have eaten here a few times. The breakfast spread was great as well. Lovely staff.
This is just a brilliant hotel in a real cool area
Great space and location highly recommended
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff were excellent, the food great, a very laid back atmosphere.
Very nice comfy stay.. loved the restaurant and breakfast was second to none, though a bit on the pricey side.. the only downside was the TV didn't work, we couldn't get a connection to watch any of the movies, nor the media or radio options, not even terrestrial tv or the basic channels.. Due to late check-in, and the palava of habing to pack up and re-room we didn't bother to chase it up, as in checking the reviews other customers had also complained about the tv not working.. Working as in broadcasting the channels, just having the corporate livery on screen doesn't suffice as entertainment.
They were great with my dog and were kind enough to not charge me for breakfast when they realized there was a misunderstanding when I checked in.
Beautiful, quirky, fun hotel at a good price. room was beautifully decorated. The only downside is the lack of sound proofing of the rooms you can hear every word from the room next door especially when the neighbouring room were having what can only be described as a heavy petting group session but once reported to reception security dealt with the problem and asked them to quieten down. Not shaming anyone, but you could hear EVERYTHING!! Overall good stay, bar the extra curricular activities of the neighbours.
Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable well appointed room. Great breakfast.
Mama is amazing
Overall stay was amazing and the staff were very good and accommodating. Location of hotel was close to bus stops and underground’s made it very easy to get around and into London. Hardly had to use a Uber.
A fab stay at this quirky hotel
The hotel is immaculate, really quirky in its design, and the staff were amazing; super helpful, and really friendly. The room was spacious, furnished to a high standard but also kept its individuality in its design choice, and we loved it! Bed was comfy, and it wasn’t particularly noisy considering our room overlooked the street. The bathroom was clean and well equipped with free wash stuff etc, an and the waterfall shower was lovely. We ate in the restaurant and the food was great. Thanks so much for a lovely stay :)
such a beautiful hotel, very unique inside. food was great and staff was very helpful when we needed an early check in they were kind about allowing us to check in early and they also called us a cab to airport the day we were checking out. i would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
Service at restaurant/Bar was terrible Overall hotel is good
Mama Shelter Shoreditch seemed to me like a pretty good hotel run by a bunch of well meaning current and former club kids, who really are all sweet and friendly. Some things to know: It’s not really in Shoreditch, it’s Cambridge Heath; the restaurant and lounge are oddly like a coworking center; the staff are great as stated but also sometimes struggle heavily with basic hotel and restaurant operations. Don’t stay (or eat) here if you’re easily frustrated. Do stay here to be in a pretty convenient place that’s quieter than the glam decor suggests. The neighborhood is lovely, a little off the beaten path for the East End.
Perfect! 20 mins from London Stadium on the bus- great for anyone wanting an overnight after a concert. Great stay. Many thanks.
Definitely hip and lively. Beds were ROCK hard and I didn’t sleep at all the first night. Amazing little area of London. An incredible street market with every kind of food was within a few blocks.
The property was well appointed the room was spacious. However the wetroom/bathroon started to flood when I had a shower due to clogged drainage. Staff fixed it quickly once brought to their attention.
Funky vibe was cool.
Staff are amazing this hotel is divine!!
Great hotel!
Very cool place to stay in a great part of London.
Perfect hotel!
Very good
Loved the hotel and my room, very clean and cozy, very comfortable bed. I’ll be back for sure!
Fun and very thoroughly themed. The room (twin) was very clean and everything worked as expected. Location is outstanding – less than 10 minutes walking to either Broadway or Columbia Road markets and Regent's Canal, and not far from the Tube and busses. Lots of excellent food options all around and a well appointed breakfast buffet. Don't miss Ozone Coffee Roasters right across the street if coffee is important to you.
Great location
The was a weird knocking noise that made it hard to sleep. The bed also wasn’t that comfortable.
Very cool, funky hotel. So many fun and unique design features. Rooms are small but comfortable. Love the focus on eco-friendliness. Breakfast was great. Staff very kind and helpful. Only slight criticism, this doesn’t really feel like shoreditch (it seems like in the last ten years the borders of shoreditch have expanded exponentially). It’s about a 20-30 minute walk to Brick Lane, Shoreditch High Street, Spitalfields Market. Still very happy with my stay.
Only thing missing: a wardrobe to hide clothes or stuff that you're not going to use. The littler baskets were cute but I missed a wardrobe
Wonderful stay
We can highly recommend this hotel. Super friendly staff with good and clean accommodation. The only thing that was off-putting was the fact that they decided to clean the lobby during breakfast hours, making in not so peaceful and that the cleaners came and knocked even tho we had late checkout. Granted, these two are minor incidents and just brings the score down very extreamly little. You won’t regret your stay!
Great value stay
Room was clean, modern and comfortable. Will definitely stay again.
I had a great stay. They let me check in early, which was much appreciated after a long flight. The hotel is clean and funky, and there are easy transit options.

Sweet 5 day stay in Hackney
I really enjoyed staying at Mama Shelter. I was traveling solo and it was fun to be in the lobby and restaurant with all the other people. The hotel room was quiet even though I was on the street side. I loved the location. There's a bus stop across the street. Wonderful market on the weekend within easy walking distance (Broadway Market) and a beautiful park nearby with animals and a restaurant, Hackney Park.
