The Makani was amazing. My family and I can’t wait to come back. It’s really close to Cartagena and they were great helping us arrange the time to take the boat to Tierra Bomba!
You have to stay here ! What a wonderful place , staff is amazing , property is beautiful , you will have an a amazing experience here , can’t wait to go back on my next visit to Cartagena
Beautiful hotel and location. Most impressed with the service. Super friendly and helpful staff.
food and entertainment
Makani is beautiful. When booking, please be mindful that this resort is not located on the mainland, but on an island. Cartagena is 20 minutes away by speedboat. The boat ride to the island was an adventure. If you are looking to party and be up all night wandering the city, then do not book here! This is a great place for quiet, reflection, and relaxing. Upon arrival, We were greeted to a nice cool drink and staff that were friendly. If you do not speak the language, Google translator is a must! The room was beautiful. However, the showers are hot or cold, never warm. I enjoyed the private jacuzzi. It felt like sitting in my own oasis. One downfall is the cost of food and drinks. 1 bottle of water is over $2 usd if you add in the tip and service tax. French fries is about $7. We ordered 2 Tequilla sunrise and was charged for separate ingredients… orange juice! Tequilla… until a discussion was had.. so be sure to look before signing the receipt. Overall this was a great experience. I would recommend staying here. I give this place 4.5 stars!
Great place to stay in Cartagena. Very upscale and special with your family and loved ones
Staff was very helpful on our way there and back, however whilst we were on the resort, especially those by the pool were slightly absent minded. Having said that, it’s been a great experience with tastefully designed interior in the room / villa and I’d go again for a quiet relaxing retreat.
Overall, it’s a beautiful property. Within a couple hours of arriving, we were already considering extending our stay… that is, until we took a shower. One min of scalding water followed by 5 mins of cold, rinse and repeat (no pun intended). Maintenance just said that’s the way it is. On the plus side, Alejandro (a manager I believe) was very proactive in offering to compensate us by offering us spa treatments. Overall we enjoyed our stay- and had the shower worked properly, we would have really enjoyed it. It’s just if you’re paying $450+ a night for a room, a shower works properly is a must.
The resort is beautifully made and has a great pool area as well as restaurants. Also the rooms are spacious and luxurious. However, the service has a lot of potential for improvement. Waiters forget your order and/or bring them twice. Every order takes 30-60min (even though there were barely any people sometimes) and the staff seems very relaxed and are talking with each other. We were locked out of our room for 3h and we received no apology for the long wait. The wifi also didn't work very well and had long outages. Furthermore, after denying them a tip because of the bad service some waiters completely ignored us until we told the reception and management.
Great place to be calm and happy
The best hotel I have seen in all the islands in Cartagena
Smooth checkin process , great staff all around. Facilities , rooms, pool area etc all top notch. Easy checkout process. Beautiful Island and private space set aside for overnight guests
Fabulous resort. Did two days. Pool and restaurant were great . Room was even better with two floors and rooftop jacuzzi . Staff were attentive and very nice . Highly recommend 2-3 days or at least a day trip .
Not only that the ac and wifi for my villa werent working, i had at all times people inside my rooms fixing these issues, on top of that the property staff offered some discount if i ever wanted to come Back and alejandro didnt get back to me with necessary info to re book. I want my money back
El personal fue muy atento, siempre pendiente de cada detalle. Un trato personalizado y calido.
The most beautiful resort I’ve stayed at yet! I loved how calm and peaceful the whole vibe was. Went here with my husband, and was so sad to leave. Highly recommend!
This is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The place is brand new, cozy and modern. The facilities were outstanding! It is as good of a stay as any luxury chain resort. Getting there was easy enough since they provide their own Makani transportation, 18 min later we were welcomed at the property with a very cold beverage. We were upgraded on the pool chairs since the place was not busy and our room wasn’t ready We stayed with kids and they loved it! We were able to snorkel on their beach. Kids wished we stayed there for the entire vacation. My daughter got sick the night before we got there (too much sun exposure, I think since she got better right away) and the staff sent the property nurse. Everyone knew she was sick and offered to bring her tea/water/medicine etc. Even at night, the staff told me the guard of the property knew and will help in the worst case scenario, to take my daughter to Emergencies. Thankfully she felt better the next day and was snorkeling with dad all day Everyone knew my name and welcomed me (by my name) every time I got a drink or food. We came during the weekday and it wasn’t crowded at all! There are no vendors hustling on the beach, (anywhere you go in the beach, people will try to sell you things, be careful) However none of this happened on this resort. Relaxing here was amazing (no one was in sight) The price per night was expensive, but if you pay for the day or 2 to come here, then staying the night is worth it especially if you are here
Love it beautiful place
Very happy with our stay would absolutely recommend. The boat pick up situation was a little confusing as the tent they had indicated as theirs seemed to be occupied by a family spending the day at the beach… but when we returned it seemed like it was a specific tent for makani. Many people on the beach will ask you where you are going to try and get you in their boat… the makani crew all work makani shirts - we had them show us their pick up list so we could be certain it was the right boat. Beyond that the room was incredible the private pool deck fantastic, staff very lovely and helpful and all common areas were gorgeous. Food was also really good and a la carte breakfast included was delicious. Very happy we chose to spend the last few days of our trip here.

Hotel is nice, clean and safe, they would benefit from a gym and getting wifi to work on the roof of the premium rooms (where the jacuzzi and outdoor areas are). Unfortunately dining, customer service & management is lacking. Every single day the hotel ran out of food and drinks. The staff did nothing to resolve issues, rather just walked away quickly, made excuses or stood there saying nothing. During our stay the hotel ran out of STILL WATER, Coke Zero, pizza bases, ham, beef, deserts, other ingredients in cocktails on their menu. These problems happened EVERY day and eventually we met with the quality service manager, who did give us a free dinner, which was appreciated, however he just made more excuses rather than solving issues. Apparently it is the “hotel’s” fault, not any individual… One day we ordered our own food and drink from Cartagena for delivery, which proves getting supplies isn’t that hard, but nobody at the hotel was able to make this happen. Boats run every hour from Cartagena and staff on both sides? We ordered a drink off their menu only for staff to come back 20 minutes later and say they don’t have all the ingredients, then walk away without offering an alternative. We would come back if they got fixed these issues, but with an experience like this, if these issues aren’t resolved, we’d prefer to go back to Punta Faro on Mucura instead of come back here. Facility is luxury but service is far from it. Fix the problems and we would return.
