Awesome stay in Madrid

We had a really good time staying in this hostel. It's location is amazing, the price is fair and the rooms are stunning. The only thing that bothered us that there was no one at the reception (besides the time we checked in). We had a couple of times that we needed reception but there was no receptionist.

Very clean and conveniently located. This hotel is on the 5th floor of a building with hostels and apartments. You should be aware that the front desk is not 24 hours - this wasn't an issue for us but might be for others. The staff were wonderful!

Clean practical and well located. Ideal for a city break where you just need somewhere to rest your head at night.

It is misleading. This is a hostel with community a bathroom. The bathroom is a person bathroom and extremely small a that. You can not maneuver in the elevator with luggage and one person. It is on the 5th floor of a building that is nearly impossible to locate. The main floor of the building is not very safe. We actually did not stay even one night in the hostel (which we thought was going to be a hotel). Not recommended if you believe that you will be in a hotel.

Stinky noisy rooms - NOT recommended

I received a stinky twin room upon arrival. The main receptionist said it was because of the rain but couldn't explain why rain causes such smell. I requested a different room and after they first refused they said there was a cancellation and gave me the SMALL DOUBLE ROOM. Even though this room is smaller and cheaper they charged me for the original price of the twin room.:/ On top of that, the shower's sewage in the new room wasn't good and the shower was full of water when used and after. The bathroom was super small - the toilet attached to sink. Could hardly sit properly. It was noisy and I couldn't get good sleep. Originally I should have stayed there 4 more nights (through a different booking site) and the receptionist offered me to stay at that small room even though I booked a normal double room. She then offered a normal double room but it didn't look much better or quieter. I decided to change hotels (at a cost of 80 euro) and booked a much better HOTEL (and not hostal) for the same price - much nicer -a real hotel. The receptionist tried to help but she was also stressed and limited because the place was terrible. I Would NOT recommend Main street hostal at all.

No phone an very small bath. Better have your own alarm clock.

Everything was perfect at this hostel, except for the room had a funky smell. We noticed it every single time we walked inside, from the moment we began our stay. We became accustomed to it after being inside for a few minutes. I think other rooms might have the same issue, because twice me noticed we could smell a little of it in the hallway

We stayed at this hotel for four nights, while the room and bathroom are small, it is a great option for being in Madrid. Very helpful and kind staff, a spotless and comfortable place.

Cozy, Clean and Supernice Service

This is a really nice Hostel, it is what you see in the ad, cozy, clean and the service is great!! Really helpful Staff and its close to all you need.

The hotel is nice but very small

Well localized. Five story lever was a disappointment.Excellent personnel.We initially had one day reservation and we decided to have another extra day by phone and it was impossible because there was a policy that we should reserve 3 consecutively days. That was ridiculous and we have to get other more expensive hotel.

Location is great which was the major draw. Staff was nice and the place was clean. Room was small but that was expected.

Great hotel in great location

Great hostel! Friendly staff, private bathroom adequately sized and plenty of towels, water and clean sheets. Even has a flat screen TV.

Convenient

Good location at Gran Via with the Palace on the west and Retiro Park on the east. Standard hostel, with no surprises. Might have other places with better value for money but this was acceptable. The staff was friendly and helpful in pointing us to places to visit.

A gem of a hotel - will definitely stay here again

This is a brilliant hotel in a great location for getting around, never needed to catch a metro anywhere. The hotel was so clean and room bright and pleasantly decorated. The hotel is on the 5th floor, the lift is small, but it was fine for us, 2 average sized women with 2 medium suitcases. All the staff were pleasant and extremely helpful, I really couldn't speak highly enough of them.

Just ok

The hostel is well located, close to everything. The photos are deceiving. Is much smaller than it appears. Is good option if you plan to spend a night and look for something cheap.

Definitely recommended

We were very impressed with this place. Great location, very central and easy to find. Room was spacious with a safe, air con, coffee making facilities and a fridge. Towels were changed daily and room cleaned. It was room 11 and was very quiet. Staff were super helpful, offering recommendations and helping with directions, even offering to print out our boarding passes. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect location in the heart of Madrid

The location for this hostel was perfect. Close to subway station and just a few steps away from the main attractions such as the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor and the San Miguel market (must see!). The reception staff was very friendly and helpful. They even allow you to leave your luggage there if you arrive before your check-in time and even after you have already checked-out, in case your flight is later in the day. The room was very clean and well decorated, just like in the pictures (including the towel folding animal... ours was a couple of swans. =) ). We will definitely consider staying at this place again and would recommend to friends and family.

Nice and centrally located little hotel

Although being a very small room, it had everything you need to spend three or four days in Madrid and is centrally located on La Gran Via. Nothing fancy but very clean. Quaint building which houses different providers. Hotel is located on the 5th floor, has a small but very functional elevator.

The wifi was a bit shaky I must say however that was my only problem. The location is simple the best !

Great value in Madrid City Center

Needed a good deal on a one night stay in Madrid. Wanted to be in the middle of everything, but was catching a train out the next morning so did not want to pay for a high end hotel that we would only be using to sleep in. This was a perfect choice...yes, the rooms are small yes, it has a hostel feel even though it is more of a hotel than hostel, but the staff was awesome, the room was clean and comfortable, and the location was amazing...could not be better to see the main sites in Madrid's city center. There is a ton to see, so next time, we will stay longer and we would absolutely stay at this property again.

Clean room

Room was clean and service was friendly. But our room was smelling. We had to open the window every time we stepped in the room.

Amazing place in the centre of Madrid

Our stay was absolutely lovely. The room is better in real than on the pictures! Very helpful and kind reception. Room was nice size and bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was smaller but clean and better than we expected. We would like to recommend this hostal to everyone who wants to come for shopping, sightseeing and business. We just wouldn't recommend it for romantic holidays as the walls are not so thick. Parking in this area is difficult and expensive. There is underground parking behind the corner but it is very expensive. We have parked 20min away walking distance and we saved a lot of money. We will definitely come back!

Newly refurbished "Hostal" in a fantastic location

From what we can tell, a "Hostal" is a regular hotel but with no facilities like a bar, dining or laundry. There is a tiny reception and the rooms, that is it. "Main Street Hostal" is brilliantly situated for everything and the rooms are very comfortable and all the staff were absolutely lovely - always smiling and helpful. Our room had a small fridge and kettle/tea/coffee (no milk), a safe, toiletries and hair dryer. All-in-all, very good indeed BUT the walls are made of cardboard so, although we had no street noise (being at the back), you could hear every single noise from the corridor and other rooms. If you are a light sleeper, take ear plugs! We took the excellent Metro system from the airport to Plaza Espania and walked the 3 minutes up Calle Gran Via to the hostal. The entrance is not too promising and you wonder what you are letting yourself in for when you go up the tiny lift to the 5th floor but, inside, it is lovely,

Quiet and cute hotel in heart of madrid

Friendly staff to greet us and check us in early! Room was small but perfect for what we needed and a quick walk to things. For being on such a busy street our room was tucked away and very quiet so a nice reprieve from a busy day in the city. Wifi worked great, they have two networks.

I just stay one night to join local tour operator for grand tour in spain. I dont have much to say but good location for many things for tourist but was noisy.

Convenient, Clean, and Cost-Effective Hotel

Good place to stay in Madrid. Small single floor (5th floor) hotel with typical European style room. Excellent cost-benefit ratio for anyone who wants to experience Madrid. Stayed there for a day between finishing business elsewhere and catching flight home to US. Great location for the tourist sites, bars, and shopping on major thoroughfare. Ask for room that faces the interior courtyard for maximum quiet (but has no balcony).

A Fantastic Stay

The room was much better than expected, it was very cozy and clean. It was in the mid-summer when I was in Madrid, the highest temperature was as high as 38 degree Celcius, I especially enjoyed its air-conditioner as it made the room very comfortable. The hostel is located exactly in the centre of Madrid, and all major attractions (e.g. the Real Palace, Plaza Mayor, Mercado de San Miguel, Puerta del Sol, Gran Via) are within walkable distance, and there are lots of shops and restaurants downstairs. Overall, I had a fantastic stay in this hostel room.

Great location.

Unusual in that the hotel door is on the 5th floor. The staff were all incredibly friendly. Our room looked out on an inner courtyard so no issues with street noise. Large room, with a welcoming 1/2 bottle of wine. Would have no hesitation booking again for another visit to Madrid.

Perfect for a short city break

A small, clean and well-appointed hostel in the heart of Madrid. Modern, compact rooms renovated to a high standard. Daily room cleaning is included in the price also. Perfect as a base from which to explore the city. The only downside is the street-noise at night, but this is to be expected as it is located on Madrid's busy Gran Via, and Madrid is a 24-hour city.

Best value for downtown Madrid !

Our stay at this hotel ('hostal') could not have been any better. The bed and pillows, strong WiFi connection at all times, and very clean. We especially enjoyed talking with Georgia (reception) as she was friendly and very, very helpful with providing information. She always did more than asked and other hotels/hostals could learn from her (Main Street) approach to customer service.

Basic but so friendly

A basic hotel, more of a hostel, but great value and lovely staff. Georgia gave us some great ideas for sight seeing, and was helpful with booking an evening out for us.

Only lacking English TV channels

Would have given hotel a 5, rather than a four if they offered a few channels on their TV system in English...

Great central value hotel with friendly staff.

The hotel is excellently placed for exploring this wonderful capital city. I was given an friendly and helpful welcome by the staff. The room was a great size and had all that I needed. The only negative was it was quite noisy (this is Madrid after all!) I'd ask for a room facing into the building in future.

Amazing location, very nice rooms

Amazing location, very nice and modern room with air condition and bathroom in suite, very helpful staff. Room looks exactly like the pictures and the location really can't be beat. Very close to a metro stop, walking distance to all the museums in one direction and the Palacio Real in the other. When we return to Madrid we'll definitely stay here again!

Very enjoyable

I came in early but they allowed me to leave my bags and placed them in my room when it was ready. The staff gave me a map and marked places I should go to sight see. I also found the place easy to find.

Close to the city center.

The hotel/hostel is a bit difficult to find if you are not familiar with the layout of the city. Once I looked at a map I still had a difficult time seeing the hostel because the sign is very small. So look for the address carefully. Other than that, I loved my stay. The hotel staff was the most helpful that I had at three different hotels in Madrid. This made all the difference. Gabriela was attentive and kind and made me feel at ease so far away from home. The room was very clean. The building had a lot of character.

Right downtown

Right downtown and reasonable price. Room is clean but as a hostel it lacks the convenience and comfort of a true hotel. Excellent location though and friendly staff. Would recommend.

Nice clean room in heart of Madrid downtown!

Hotel's right on Gran Via, so location is excellent. You're minutes walk from the Plaza Mayor and metro stations, and you can't go wrong with that. Staff is friendly, however of the 3 staff who was at the 'reception' 2 didn't speak English ... so communication was a little broken. Also, the hotel's basically a glorified youth hostel and it took us a while to find the hotel cause the ground floor entrance is an old condo / business building entrance. We originally expected a hotel lobby. Once you get used to that though, it's a clean room in the heart of Madrid downtown and we think the price is reasonable too

Everything was great! The room was very clean and well designed. The location was very convenient, right off of a main street and near many interesting things. I was traveling alone and felt safe! It was nice to get recommendations from the hotel staff for things to do in the area.

Proximity to city was perfect

Great little place to check out the city. Had a small lift but stairs were fine. Bathroom was small hut completely functional. Excellent wifi and good pressure in the shower. Hardish to find at first it's essentially opposite the United colours of Benetton store. I would def stay here again.

City Break

This is small and very nice hotel in a great location for attractions, shops and restaurants. Close to the metro for getting around. Tha staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. This is my second visit to Main Street and I plan to return.

Nice hotel with a good price

I booked this hotel last minute for 1 night and it has surpassed mt expectations completely. Although it looks strange at the entrance and the lift is extremely small, the moment u entered into main street hotel , u r completely surprised. Gabriella the receptionist is excellent and made u feel at home . The rooms are beautifully furnished and extremely clean !! Iwould come back here again

Very small room.

The person that checked us in was very helpful and informative. Our room was very small. We requested to have a wake up call early on the morning of our departure so that we could be sure we made our early flight. We were assured that the staff would knock on our door at 6 a.m. We never received the knock!

Very clean, friendly and central hostal.

Main Street is a lovely hostal in a great location. Rooms are spotless and are cleaned daily if you so wish. The rooms are very compact but have everything you need. The hostal is very central and the walls are thin therefore there was some outside and inside noise to get used to.

Does what it says on the tin

Nice place, great central location - can walk to most places you want to see in 15minutes or less. Friendly staff, clean rooms and value for money compared to other accommodation that was available at the same time. Location means it can be a little noisy at night with cars passing on the Grand Via etc but it is comfortable, so, does the job for a city break weekend away.

A very small hotel in a great location (so long as you don't mind a little noise) and very friendly staff. The room was a great size and had a small balcony. The bathroom was tiny but nice.

Really nice hotel in fantastic location

The staff members were really friendly throughout our stay and the room and overall decor was above standard. The rooms are fairly small but have everything you need. The hotel is close to the metro stop and is in a fantastic location so most places are walking distance. The staff member who checked us in gave us a lot of information on where to go and made recommendations which was very helpful, and anything we needed during our stay the staff were happy to provide. I would definitely return to this hotel in the future.

Would recommend this hotel no problem. A little hard to find but if you walk down gran via its a doorway about two or three past c&a. Rooms are small but adequate. There is a level of street noise but it didn't bother us and we were at the front if the hotel.

One room apartment in Central Madrid

Not easy to find because of shared door. Nice clean room with friendly, helpful staff. Would go there again. It can be noisy at night but it is on a main road and it is Madrid!

Hostal con excelente ubicación

La ubicación del hotel es perfecta. Hay que entender antes de reservar que esto es un hostal, no un hotel. No hay recepción las 24 hs, por lo que deben tener en cuenta esto para el check in. Tiene baño propio y todo está en muy buenas condiciones. Pero repito, no es un hotel. No vayan con esas expectativas pues es injusto luego juzgar tan buen lugar para quedarse. Si lo que necesitas es un lugar para dormir, sin muchas pretensiones en cuanto a una habitación grande o lujosa, este es tu lugar.

Oltre ogni aspettativa

L'albergo si trova in una posizione eccellente per visitare la città! Il centro si raggiunge a piedi in meno di 5 minuti, in più c'è una fermata metro a meno di due minuti. La camera è pulita, confortevole e calda, inoltre la receptionist è stata sempre disponibile e gentile! Consigliatissimo!

Posizione strategica

Posizione molto strategica vicino al centro: a piedi e/o con Metro. Camera piccola con bagno ancor più piccolo ma il tutto attrezzato e direi pulito. Ideale x mordi e fuggi ad un prezzo non proprio in rapporto ma se vuoi Madrid last minute.....!

Estuvimos 2 días al comienzo de nuestro viaje y después de 15 días regresamos por 4 noches más. Durante esta última estadía la habitación era más chica y el baño, con la bacha fuera, en la habitación, muy pequeño. Ducha e inodoro incómodos.
