Staff was very hospitable and greeted all their guests like family. They gave you a property tour of your room and ensured you understood all amenities on property. There is a public bath with an electric bath, soda bath and medicine bath that was amazing after a days tour. Fantastic! Please go for the four seasons. You have your own private garden and a larger space. Staff will prepare your futons on tatamis. This is a townhouse so you will hear a bit of footsteps above. Breakfast was included and included a variety of Asian and western fusions sandwiches. If you are very tall, might not be the greatest option as the ceiling height is low. The property is an original structure from 100 years ago renovated recently so it is very clean and has a traditional modern touch to it. We hope to be back soon. We stayed one night and it definitely was not enough.
We had a wonderful experience. The stay was authentic with many traditional amenities. The staff was very helpful, and we were given clear instructions on the things that were less Western.
Hidden bliss in Kyoto
Beautiful location and quiet ryokan. Lots of food options nearby and easy access to Shoseien Gardens. Thank you for hosting us!
A great Ryocan experience for trying this in Kyoto! Highly recommend it!
This is the best place in Japan we stayed. The workers are absolutely helpful and so nice and communicate with English easily. The place is super cute, clean quiet!! We will definitely come back again.
Awesome experience for my first trip to Japan. Wish I booked another night or two
Great and very friendly services with plenty of amenities
This ryokan is wonderful! The staff made excellent dining suggestions, we ate very well. The breakfast was filling and delicious! The staff was simply wonderful: warm, authentic, kind. This is my second stay. I will DEFINITELY return for a third time.
Great place, super clean, the breakfast was okay, and the sleeping unique. they didn't have alternate pillows to provide hence I had a terrible sleep here. But right across from a public bath which is amazing
The hospitality was outstanding! The staff are very friendly and the building is beautiful. Easy access to JR bus line and the subway. We lived all the food recommendations provided (we tried 4 and all were hits). Everything is very clean and new, but with charm. We rented their bikes and it was fun and easy to do. Breakfast is very good with lots of options. Will absolutely stay here again in the future.
I loved the hospitality and the amenities provided. The room was lovely as well as the staff.
Excellent service, clean, comfortable, feel as home.
All the staff were very nice and accommodating. If I’m ever in Kyoto again it’s worth a second visit.
This hotel is one of the best we been to throughout our entire Japan trip. The hotel staffs are super nice and helpful and the location is a very quiet neighborhood with bus lines close by. The best part of this place is the cleanliness and you feel safe to use any of the facilities and amenities they provide. Will definitely come back again.
Wonderful accommodation and hospitality. Would absolutely stay there again in the future.
Really well run ryokan
This Ryokan is a worthwhile experience unto itself. It was a very comfortable gentle transition into Japanese culture. It's a low-key vibe with a lot of changing shoes and slippers ( three types of slippers) Staff were as helpful and gracious as possible in that process as well as handly logistics. They were always there to help us in every way. They were responsible and prompt when making restaurant reservations for us (a must) in Kyoto. Good communications. We found the standard double room small., particularly the bathroom We had the room for three our last night and it was great. We'd highly recommend the room for three and ask them to double your mattress if you have back concerns. They offered my wife that option. It helped. Breakfast was good, not great compared to some of the other places we have stayed, but probably very good by typical Japanese standards as we were told. The only downside is its location was not inconvenient for us by public transportation or walking to where we wanted to go. We took public transportation between sites, but to get to this hotel from the main sites we found it was more efficient with our limited time to take a Taxi/Uber. That was about 7-10 minute ride $7ride each way. The experience, especially the quality of the staff, is worth it. Just a consideration. I would highly recommend this place for those looking for a cultural experience and nice traditional Japanese lodging over being close to a group of tourist sites.
Nice Hotel!
Great staff
Fantastic atmosphere
Had a really pleasant experience at this hotel. A nice compromise of tradition Japanese and modern necessity. Made me and my partner very welcome.
Best hotel in Kyoto. Very warm welcome and Nice room.
The staff were super helpful and friendly. The onsen next door was great, try the electric bath if you can.
Good location, room is perfect for this trip, very nice staff
Wow!!
Amazing service! They are always willing to help. Comfortable room.. nice decor
Wonderful place
Such a wonderful place to stay...comfortable, friendly, restful, great location, use of the baths opposite. Would love to return.
A wonderful ryokan, with al the charm of old Kyoto in a new and very well designed building. The staff was always attentive and thoughtful, which really added to the pleasure of our stay.
Luck You provided an authentic Ryokan experience, including the neighborhood onsen (spa bath) across the street, in a modern recreation of an old Kyoto townhouse. The staff was always attentive and helpful, and the rooms (we stayed in two over three nights) were impeccable.
Impeccable Japanese Hospitality
If you want space, this is probably not the place for you. You may struggle if you are over 5" 10' (180cm). But if you want impeccable Japanese hospitality, super clean rooms and bathrooms, and an authentic Japanese experience of sleeping on tatami mats and a futon, then this is definitely the place for you. Shoutout to the staff, who were super friendly and accommodating, even taking the time to tell us where and how to get to the places of interest.
It is small and quaint. The staff is super friendly and always want to assist
The staff was incredibly friendly and you get access to the sento across the street, truly a one on a lifetime experience!
An awesome place to stay in if you want the traditional ryoukan (Japanese inn) experience. The staff were extremely pleasant and attentive. They walked us through places to explore in Kyoto and ensured our stay was enjoyable. The breakfast was about the same each day, which consisted of Japanese-style egg omelettes, miso soup, sandwiches and coffee/tea. Only downside is it's a bit pricey compared to other places we stayed in Japan. One thing is we don't recommend this to (especially older/back problem) Westerners who are used to a tall, mattress bed. This is a traditional Japanese style, where you sleep on futons on tatami floors.
They were really friendly. We loved staying there!
The staffs are really friendly and awesome! The room is clean and cozy too! Will definitely recommend the place to others.
You Must Stay Here!
An amazing experience. Wouldn’t change a thing!
STAFF were very attentive and helpful. It was our second visit .
Wszytko mi się podobało! Panuje relaksacyjny piekny spokojny klimat japoński w tym hotelu.Obsluga przemiła.Dobre śniadanie.smaczne herbatki w zasięgu ręki.Bezplatny voucher do kazniy na przeciwko hotelu .Wszytji przemyślane co do cala.POLECAM TEN HOTEL!!! Wrcocilabym tu napewno.
An experience above the rest!
The place is very minimalist which allowed us to experience the Japanese tradional beds. I didn’t think we’d get much rest but I was wrong the bed was so comfortable and I slept like a baby!!! The staff are amazing. They were beyond attentive and helpful. Honestly, I’ve never been treated so well! I would come back here just for the service! All in all this place is amazing!
Great hotel
Loved the atmosphere and the design layout, even making our beds was fun. The only negative was that you can hear everything from the rooms above . When they have small children running and shouting it’s disturbing. Other than that, the service received was fabulous and we enjoyed our stay.
Good location, room very comfortable and breakfast quite good. Opportunity provided to use public bath across the street was interesting and enjoyable.
Staff was very helpful and friendly. The place itself was cute and quiet, with lots of little nice touches. There is a sento across the street! There is a common area to use and breakfast was nice too. Futons were the softest ones we slept on in Japan. :)
ryokan style with modern bathroom facility and its situated opp to public bathhouse (to experience onsen). Getting there was abit tough with 3 luggages though. Recommend for lite travellers.
Nice Ryokan style hotel. Small but cosy. Breakfast is simple but sufficient.
This was an amazing stay and the service is at very high quality level. The room is a bit small but cosy and nice. The breakfast is very yummy as well.
Perfect place to stay in Kyoto
Beautiful small hotel, friendly and helpful staff, and excellent value for money. Location is great, easy to get around Kyoto, and there are wonderful restaurants within a five-minute walk. Highly recommended.
Nice traditional Japanese hotel
Hotel is located near the Kyoto train station. The room is traditional style, very clean and minimumlistic. The hotel staff is super friendly. We stayed only for one night, but our itinerary kept bring us back, for storing luggages and bikes. No one said no to us, and instead, each time we dropped by, they invited us in and gave us ice teas and let us rest in their lobby.
It’s a must experience in a true Ryokan style accommodations. The Ryokan was beautiful and in a great location on a quite side street. The owner/manager was awesome and Extremely friendly and helpful in directing us to the sights of Kyoto. Would definitely recommend Luck You Kyoto to anyone who wants a great place to stay in Kyoto and to also experience a Japanese style accommodations.
Really love !
ชอบที่นี้มากกก น่ารักและสะอาด หากมีโอกาสจะไปพักอีกแน่นอน
Would definitely come back
We loved the hotel, the staff were very kind and helpful; their English was very good and they helped to show us all the main places to go to in Kyoto. The room was very clean and nice, amenities were great, sleeping was comfortable keeping in mind it was on a tatami mat. Room was comfortable although may a little tight for 3 people and suitcases. We really enjoyed the bathhouse coupons that they gave us. One thing that could be improved would be the breakfast, which had very few options if you wanted a Japanese breakfast. Overall loved the place, was not too expensive and great quality, would definitely stay again.
Good service - small room
We think the economy room was a bit too small for us in the end (compared to other ryokans). The service was good though.
Traditional hotel with low price
Small hotel like Ryokan with breakfast and very kind staff. I love how they advice place to travel and how to go there, also sell Kyoto city bus 1-day pass. I stat at Yuzu room, the smallest one, batg room is too small bt they have ticket for public bath ( Japanese style ).
Can not rate this Ryokan highly enough. Fantastic staff, clean rooms, close to bus and train stops.
We were traveling in Japan for about a week and decided that for at least two nights of our stay, we wanted to experience ryokan. Luck(y?) you you did not disappoint in that regard! The rooms are minimalist but clean, temperature controlled, and the mattress pads are surprisingly comfortable, especially if you are used to a firmer mattress. Probably the best part about our stay was the staff. They really went above and beyond to make our time with them special, including coming out to find us when we ended up at a guesthouse instead of a massage place (with the same name!) Everyone who works there pays attention to detail, is kind and warm, and makes you feel like you are at home, even if you are far away from your own! Remember to take your shoes off when you go into the dining area (wear the provided sandals). And when you go to your room, if you are upstairs, leave your shoes at the shoe rack. Breakfast includes small treats like small bits of egg, rice, miso soup, sandwiches and a bit of fruit. Tea and coffee are also available. There are enough things there to get you through the morning without leaving for the day hungry. If you are looking for an authentic experience, give this place a try! And if you're hesitant about sleeping on a floor on a non-traditional mattress, I'd say give it one night. I would not recommend this for people who cannot function outside of their comfort zones, though. And if you are tall like we are, watch your head! :)
+ Kind hotel staff and perfect reception offering tea and sweets + The room is very clean + Hotel looks awesome with all the woodwork
Coziest hotel I ever stayed in
Upon confirming e booking online, we receive a welcome email from Luck You. It narrates e way to get to the hotel from Kyoto Station by bus. The Ryokan style hotel is relatively new, abt 1-2 years. Guest rooms are constructed using traditional Japanese methods: flooring is tatami, doors are sliding doors and bedding is a futon spread out on the tatami floor. After exploring Kyoto in the days, u enter the room with e futons laid ... really cozy ! I had e soundest sleep this night. simply live Luck You
Kyoto ryokan
The people are lovely but there are much more interesting areas of kyoto. Room very small and futon thinner and more uncomfortable than any of the ryokan we have stayed in.
Nice location and wonderful staff
Luck you is a new and clean Ryokan, which is convenient to everywhere. It provides you free access to the Japanese bathing place right across the street as well. The staff in Luck you is extremely nice and helpful in terms of travel advice. The only downside is it does not provide traditional Japanese style dinner like other Ryokans do. The whole experience is wonderful. 5/5
Cosy and hospitable services in authentic Kyoto
A must-go for those who want to have a taste of real Japanese culture and etiquette. Where else could you find such warm hospitality that money can’t buy? Proximity to big local supermarket, drug store and various local restaurants that are open till 23:00. Will definitely choose this lucky place again.
Wouldn't change a thing
Had a wonderful stay here. The staff were so attentive and helpful. I loved the breakfast (miso soup, rice, pickles, eggs, little sandwiches). The bathroom is tiny, but they give you passes to the bathhouse across the street. It's an awesome way to experience Japanese culture. 3 of us shared a room and there wasn't a lot of spare space with the futons rolled out but we didn't find that to be a problem. The staff made a reservation for us at Kobayashi, a kaiseki restaurant north of the ryokan that was one of the highlights of our trip and very reasonably priced.
True Japanese style experience
My son and I was traveling through Kyoto and wanted to experience a Japanese style living. Truly wonderful experience, warm and friendly staff and a clean and comfortable accommodation.
FANTASTIC
AMAZING STAFF AND BEAUTIFUL TRADITIONAL JAPANESE HOUSE. FREE OFURO !
Beyond Excellent Service and Hospitality
The service and and our stay at Luck You was more than excellent. Not only was it well located, clean, and exceeded our expectations in terms of the facilities, but the service at every level was exceptional. My husband had a medical emergency while we were in Kyoto and we are grateful for the kindness and assistance we received from the staff at Luck You. They offered to us the best example of the well known Japanese hospitality. Thank You!
Incredible Staff!
We had a wonderful stay at Luck You! Can't say enough about how incredible the staff is! The bathrooms are small but they offer free passes to the bathhouse across the street and that was a great experience. Highly recommend staying at this lovely traditional hotel.
Very cosy place!
Had a wonderful stay at luck you hotel (always typo as lucky you :p)! Very friendly and heartful staff! Nice Japanese style room and facility!
it is really "lucky you"
this little gem is tucked away in a great location. it is far from crowds but in walking distance to great sites. oh, the hotel is across from an onsen - public bath house - and near eateries among other perks. and the best part ... a fantastic and helpful staff, oh, lets not forget breakfast! yum! i cannot say enough good about Luck You. Ten stars if up to me.
Much better than expected
We were lucky to get the last room of this hotel. We went there and felt so well treated by the staff. The hotel was very clean and neat. The staff was super friendly and professional. The room was clean and comfortable. It was the first time we slept on a Japanese style bed. We loved the complementary medical bath and Japanese breakfast. We felt we were treated like VIP members. We were definitely stay there again when we have a chance to travel to Kyoto again.
Excellent cute and tiny hotel.
Everything about the hotel was pleasant. However, the room was tiny. People who are over 6 feet or weight over 230 lb may find it a bit inconvenient. We consider it perfect and will definitely recommend it to friends and family.
Experiencing Japanese Living
Beautiful wood interior and style, creating a zen feeling. Room and bathroom are smaller than western style hotel room but this was expected and compared to ones in Germany and Switzerland, they are bigger. Loved our stay. Staff were super helpful. Japaneae breakfast was awesome. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Lovely place to stay, amazing staff
We had room 7 which was a very small room, but it was cosy and I was very happy with the experience. That staff were amazing. They all spoke English and were incredibly welcoming. You sleep on traditional futons which may not be for everyone, as they are not like soft western beds! Free coupons to the bath house over the road are available. We stayed here for our last night in Japan and loved it.
Comfortable inn with a ryokan feel.
Deluxe room, 1 night, ground floor - A two storey hotel inn with a ryokan feel. Welcoming and friendly staff. Comfortable futon bedding with the option of a double layer for those not used to sleeping on tatami flooring. Bedding prepared by staff in the evening. Yukatas provided for guests. Onsen available in the building directly across the hotel, a complimentary free pass to this facility provided. Views from room into a quaint 1m shallow contained viewing garden. Small private toilet and bathroom with a large square bathtub. No evening かいせき, however a small breakfast is provided in the central double height communal area with a selection of both Japanese and western items. Free stable wifi. Although it may not be a complete ryokan in the traditional sense, it represents good value for those wishing to experience the spatial qualities of one.
Wonderful Ryokan, fabulous staff
This has been my favourite Ryokan in all Japan - made so by the very friendly and helpful staff. They really looked after us, and even posted on a jacket I stupidly left in closet to Tokyo. The room was a great size, comfy futons, and yet in a cosy environment where we felt like special guests. Highly highly recommend.
A modern ryokan within Kyoto.
Set inner city, near bus access and local restaurants the ryokan is over the road from the local bath house. The relaxed approach to guests was very welcoming. Plenty of advice on buses and sightseeing.
We had an excellent stay, very helpful and friendly, breakfast was very simple and enough.
A wonderful hotel with a traditional ryokan feel! Very kind staff, very clean, nice breakfast, too!
Sublime. Extremely friendly and attentive service, great breakfast. Good location and easy connection by bus to all tourist sites. Good local recommendations for food/drink.
Amazing Traditional Japanese Ryokan!
Extremely attentive & friendly ryokan staff. English-speaking too! The establishment is a traditional tatami -style ryokan. Each room is large enough for two people and has wifi, and free amenities. Hotel comes with free breakfast too!
Small Ryokan with super nice staff
Luck You is a small 7 rooms ryokan. The room we stayed in is barely big enough to put down two futons. Cozy indeed. Overall, we felt like we're staying at a B&B in a home. The staff is super nice. Everyday when we get back from the oppressive heat of Kyoto, the staff immediately brought out jugs of ice water and tea. They also gave great recommendations in the restaurant near by. They also helped us arrange reservations for a Kaiseki dinner. Given we just spent a night at Iwaso in Miyajima the night before, it is an interesting contrast between the high end Ryokan and Luck You. No doubt the room is much smaller, and the facility is much more limited at Luck You, but the warmth of the staff more than make up for it. It is a very memorable stay compared to all the other hotels on this trip. BTW, the staff speak excellent English, way better than the staff at Hilton Shinjuku. - Each room has A/C and a tiny full function bathroom, but you do get free tickets to the public bath house across the alley. - They serve free breakfast everyday at the lounge area at 7:30 (bread, Japanese style omelets, small sandwiches, miso soup, rice). The lounge is small, about 10 seats at most. - They sell 1-day bus pass at the desk. We didn't take the subway much for our 3-day stay. The pass is activated on first transaction and lasts for 24hrs. - The best way to get to the hotel from Kyoto Station is actually the JR bus, just get off at Gojo-Omiya.
Japanese hospitality
We are very pleased to have stayed in this charming ryokan. Hotel manager and staff were very polite and helpful. If you need anything or assistance, just ask. My daughter was so touched when the manager brought her the mini hamburgers for breakfast she'd asked for the day before.
Good value, great customer service.
Cozy ryokan, away from the hussle and bussle. Very nice ladies running the place.
Absolutely lovely
This was one of the most pleasant hotel experiences that I have had - and I travel a lot. The staff were wonderful, friendly, helpful and the tatami mat room such a pleasure to sleep in - going the traditional baths right across the street was an added bonus
Room was clean and comfortable. Modern amenities like bathroom with shower (and things like hair dryer provided) and locking doors, but also the tatami and futon expected of ryokan. Staff was very nice, seemed to speak good enough English to communicate with customers but cheerfully tolerated my desire to practice my poor Japanese with them. Provided breakfast was pretty standard, with Japanese and Western options. Service included tickets to the public bath across the street, which was also clean and worth trying. Overall, quite satisfactory.
We used Google maps to find the exact location, but the inn was in close proximity to a bus stop. Everything about the inn was lovely, clean, and cozy--a traditional feeling with modern conveniences. We especially enjoyed the breakfast and the friendly, English-speaking hosts.
Warm hostess
Quiet and cozy stay. Nice breakfast and there's a bathhouse next door.
Very welcoming stay.
Warm welcome from all the staff from the minute of arrival, until we left. All spoke English, and were very helpful with suggestions for tours, restaurants and the area around the hotel. Stay was comfortable, breakfast everyday was good, plus the bonus of free access to public Japanese bath house opposite. Once you know the area, JR station is 10 minutes walk, subway 15 to 20 mins, kiyoto main station 30ish mins. The first thing I think before doing a review, is would I stay here again, which is a definite yes if we ever visit Kiyoto again.
Great bed and breakfast with a traditional touch. Tatami, futon, the works. Excellent location. Nice, helpful staff. Great breakfast from a nearby bakery. And make sure you try the public bath next door!
Simple & Sweet
This place was perfect for me! It felt safe & sweet. The staff was personal with warm smiles & had great advice for places to see & things to do. I would go back in an instant. A very Japanese experience. I loved it but it may not be for everyones comfort to sleep on a futon on the floor. Thank you LuckYou!
Lovely Ryokan and lovely staff
The Ryokan was really clean and pleasant and the staff were very helpful and friendly :)
Wonderful room and impeccable service
Staying at Luck You Kyoto was an absolute delight! A cosy, traditional-style room with a modern bathroom. The service was fantastic. There is a lot of attention to detail, especially with their guide to local food and attractions. The breakfast buffet is simple but delicious. Would definitely stay again and recommend to a friend!
Great traditional looking but modern ryokan
We had a great stay at Luck You. The staff was extremely helpful and nice, always offering tea and welcoming with a huge smile. The design is lovely and the "breakfast" area is pleasant and peaceful.
The staff was so kind!! Really helpful!!! There were snacks and the ryokan was wonderful
スタッフの皆さんに親切に迎えて頂けたのでとても良い旅行となりました。また次回もよろしくお願いします。ありがとうございました。
Our trip to Luck You Inn
Amazing experience with a friendly staff who made us feel very welcome! They offered suggestions for nearby restaurants and a free ticket to the public onsen next door. Definitely visiting again!
Great stay
This is a great place to experience the Japanese traditional ryokan living. There’s a public onsen across the street where hotel guests can go for free.
stayed 2 nights. room is small but it's a very reasonable price to experience an authentic traditional Japanese "Ryokan" style hotel. Breakfasts are both Japanese and western styles. Staffs are very nice and we were well explained about the hotel with welcome tea when we checked in

Loved the vibe of this hotel. Fun experience. Staff was fantastic. Incredibly helpful and professional.
