Stayed for Valentine’s Day and it was perfect, the room was great with Great city views. The bathroom was very nice. Everything within walking distance (shopping, coffee place across the street, dinner). We had Dinner at three birds which was a 7 min walk from the room and it was absolutely amazing. Defintley plan to visit and stay again. A great experience overall!

Great location. Good communication when we had questions. Only concern is bedding is one thin sheet with one thin bedspread. Not at all comfortable. Needs either a duvet or proper blankets. Also light from street keeps the room too light overnight in spite of blinds. Blackout blinds would be more effective. Otherwise a good and spacious, well equipped room and good value for the money.

We've never stayed in an inn quite like the Gaffer Inn. There's no sign, no real personnel connected with it, and it's kind of like staying in a Speakeasy from Prohibition Days. You can only enter during your prepaid time period with a special code. To get to your room, you have to walk up steep steps behind an unmarked door in the front or a bit scary metal steps if entering from the rear. This place is not handicapped accessible and there is no one to help you with luggage or questions or recommendations. Nevertheless, why did I give this five stars? Well, once you get to your room, it is beautiful and clean. It was like having a nice studio apartment, interestingly decorated and equipped with everything you could need. This is not the place for anyone who likes cookie-cutter hotels or needs lots of additional services or feels uncomfortable with checking in and out without human contact. But, if you like unique hotels that are walkable to many of Corning's attractions and restaurants, I highly recommend the Gaffer Inn.

Can't wait to go back!

This place was amazing! It was right in the center of all of the shops, restaurants, and bars in Corning. It was within walking distance to the Museum of Glass as well. The room itself was very cozy with a fireplace and leather couches. Staff at the Beer & Burgers restaurant below the room were extremely friendly and helpful when checking in. Parking was not an issue as there were plenty of spaces in the lot behind the Inn. My wife and I had a wonderful weekend there! We'll be back!

What a fun place to stay. From the outside you didnt know what to expect. Once inside it was very different. It was like being in a very nice NY studio apartment. The exposed brick walls were great. Quirky little place. Though i would suggest a yellow caution strip on the front step into the street.

Nice but glitches with check-in

The place is very cute and our room, The Majestic, was as described. It has a lot of amenities. But, check in was clunky. I went to the bar downstairs and was told that i should have reveived a message with instructions, which, I did not. The bar downstairs was very helpful and explained the lock process, then even came to check to make sure it worked. After that, I was very impressed and happy with the place. Unfortunately, later in the evening when we had settled in, it was impossible to find the wifi password which caused some issues. I tried to go back down to the bar, but by that time, the bar was closed. It did not seem important at 9 pm to call the emergency number, but, it was disappointing.

The bedding is exactly as If someone got it very used and out of a thrift store ALL of the towels were stained brown or grey. They too were as if not just 2nd hand- but third hand. When we arrived the key to the room was in the door. We did not feel safe and could not sleep on very old and smelly furniture beds bedding. We left and had to reserve a room in a Hilton hotel.

We go to Corning Museum of Glass as least once per year and this time we decided to stay overnight. The Gaffer Inn is above a restaurant that was recommended by friends. So we booked a room. It looks like an old brick facade on the outside, but the inside is quite the opposite. Our room was stunning and we thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations. great stay in corning!

This is a great apartment type room in cute downtown Corning. It is spacious and clean and in a great location. The only downside is the couch bed. We had two teens with us and thought we could sleep 4 -- we were wrong. No human body of any size should have to sleep on that hide-a-bed. The suite is large and could easily accommodate an extra double bed or set of bunk beds if arranged properly and it would be a very comfortable stay for all involved. Otherwise the stay was great! Clean, easy check in and out, etc. highly recommend.

Character and charm that the big chains lack

We had a fine time at Gaffer Inn. Our room was spacious and comfortable. I really wanted not to spend our weekend at a chain hotel -- lately, I find them sort of depressing. So I chose the Gaffer and I am totally glad I did. We loved it, but to be fair, I have to say that there are things you give up in exchange for the charm and great downtown vibe of staying here. There's no front desk, so if something goes wrong in the middle of the night, you have to call someone. There can be noise from the downstairs establishments (but when we were there, the music and merriment ended promptly at 10PM). There's a steep staircase to get up to the rooms. No breakfast, but coffee shops and a diner in walking distance. But for us, those things really didn't make a difference, we loved the place.

We stayed in Corning NY for a night on the way to Toronto Canada. The Gaffer Inn a small Inn right above a Burger restaurant. We checked in at the restaurant, then went upstairs to a is a huge nicely decorated room. It is not a cookie cutter hotel by any means. Very clean and comfortable. The restaurant gives you a $10 coupon to eat there. We didn’t only because none of us were hungry during the stay. Only 2 note of caution. To get to the rooms you have to go up a relatively steep flight of stairs either through the front or the back entrance. The back entrance leads to the parking lot. It is a little funky, with the kitchen exhaust fan blowing on you as you walk up or down. You have be careful using the rear stairs. If you have physical issues it could be a problem. I found the bed too soft to my liking, but that is only my preference. Really nice comfortable place to stay in Corning New York. Highly recommend unless you are unable or unwilling to climb a flight of stairs with your luggage.

Location and great room.

Location...Location...Location. Did I mention that the location is right on Market Street within walking to everything that Corning has to offer, including museums, restaurants, pubs, and shopping. We stayed in room #2, and the room itself was large and absolutely spotless. It had been updated recently. A full leather couch and leather arm chair were also in the room. King size bed was clean and comfortable. Two small caveats: one, you do have to climb quite a long stairway; two, while the windows have blinds, there is a street light in front of them and it can be distracting at night. Would have been nice to have drapes to close.

Don’t let the fact that you get your key in the bar, or the back stair case throw you off. Our room was perfect for me and two kids to be comfortable. We got lucky finding a parking spot in back right after five so we were good on parking for the night, but I could see that being inconvenient if it’s really busy. It’s not a hotel with a loading zone or dedicated parking! We drove by it the first time. Mostly excellent. The room and area are both wonderful with these two exceptions: the air conditioner didn't have an auto on/off that we could discover, so we got very little sleep. When the air was on it quickly got too cold, but when the air was off the room got stuffy fairly quickly. We spent the night waking up to turn the air on via remote control, then waking up to turn it off, then waking up to turn it on, etc. Like I said, we got very little actual sleep. The other issue was minor; there were no Kleenex or napkins in the room.

A Fun Little Boutique Hotel

We enjoyed staying in a unique, small boutique hotel (we are usually Marriott loyalists). We were traveling from the PA Grand Canyon to the Finger Lakes and opted to spend the night in Corning. My husband (who is very tall) loved the large leather couch and ottoman because he could stretch out full length. The room was very spacious (we stayed in room 1 with two queen beds) and clean (we appreciated the extra blanket that I used to swap out with the comforter--I'm always grossed out by those as they typically are not washed regularly). The bathroom was also very nice and spacious. We didn't mind the stairs (not the right property for you if you can't walk up and down a flight of stairs). I didn't find the noise from the bar below to be a problem, either. A few areas for improvement: some features of the room could stand to be repaired/painted as they are showing some wear and tear (there is a closet door that doesn't work, the bathroom cabinet and caulking on the tub look a little beat up, etc.), and offering breakfast since there is not a single place in town to eat before 11AM at this time. Note: this is a small boutique property, so don't expect big hotel amenities like ice or vending machines (although I'm sure the bar where you check in would probably be happy to give you some ice if you ask).
