Ono of the best hotels, itis great, sends you backin time and in comfort!
Beautiful historic hotel in a convenient location. Rooftop restaurant was very good. The staff was extremely attentive. Unfortunately the heat in our room did not function. They tried to fix it three times to no avail. We were okay with an extra blanket at this time of year, but it was chilly. Also, the hot water was just barely above warm, not hot enough. As the building is over 100 years old this is not entirely surprising, and the French colonial style decor was lovely.
The hotel was so beautiful! The hotel was staff was also very friendly and helpful. We spent time walking, shopping, and checking out the Mediterranean which was outside our back door!
Métropole Luxury Hotel
Personnel attentionné, disponible, bienveillant et très souriant. Terrasse et restaurant impeccables avec vue exceptionnelle. Très grande propreté avec décoration soignée.
It's a fun vintage hotel. They have a cage elevator like in an Agatha Christie novel (lt runs incredibly quiet without any chatter). Rooms are nice with high ceilings, beautiful sheets and very clean. The top floor offers a lovely breakfast with a view and the location is very convenient to getting around the city with the tram to the library, jewelry museum just outside the door. It's extremely close to the Roman Greco museum and opera house. Service in the hotel is very very friendly.
Nice French 18 century style
The location is excellent very walkable to many different places. Get off the beaten path take a walk up to the Catacombs it’s an eye opener to see how the people of Alexandria really live. Eat at one of the local restaurants not the tourist spots. Had a great lunch at Gad they have many locations throughout Egypt.
Strange old hotel - interesting experience!
A weird experience to be honest. It literally feels like you are stepping back 100 years when you walk in.. Very odd, old scented smell throughout the whole place (not sure if it’s on purpose or hiding something) which was a bit overpowering. Staff on reception, especially the girls, are really friendly and helpful. Only had breakfast once, but it was not impressive - by the time I got there - circa 8:30am there was just scraps of food left with no sign of replenishment. I ate twice at the restaurant on the roof. View is tremendous and food was decent at a reasonable price. The resident old crooner they have singing is not to my taste… and perhaps suits the majority French residents more. First meal, they brought my starter and hot main course out within just a few minutes of each other, while I was less than half way through the starter. Second meal, I sat waiting for my desert at an empty table for 15 minutes until I chased. I think I enjoyed the experience (though definitely weird).. The hotel is old and run down in places, but this adds to the quirky character. I would stay again, but would prioritise the Cecil Hotel from what I have seen of them both.
The staff was very accommodating and professional. The rooftop restaurant was amazing with incredible views and live singing. The atmosphere was wonderful, you feel you are transformed to the elegant twenties. The housekeeping staff were amazing, I had forgotten my ship boarding card and few hundred Euros and I was amazed to receive a text message from the hotel informing me that they found my missing card and cash and I was able to retrieve them at the front desk. Really appreciate the front desk staff (Rana and Basant) and specifically the housekeeping ladies (Shaimaa and Doha). Will definitely stay there on my next trip to Alexandria,
Amazing
Old fashioned hotel with a great rooftop view and food
Lovely colonial building and loved every corner of the hotel. Bathroom is quite large and very clean. Bedroom is nicely set similar to Victorian style. Even the windows are soundproof, it was not easy to get few hours of sleep on Friday night. Shared the concern with the hotel management. Maybe rooms facing the Main Street needs more strong sound proofing system.
I had the most terrible stay ever in my life. The hotel staff are not friendly , services are terrible , Aircon, break down frequently, they start painting the walls and the rooms adjacent to my room in the afternoon and when I came back to hotel in the evening I smelled the paints vapors from a distance . I could hardly stay in my room , my eyes kept tearing and burning all night long. Over all I do not recommend this hotel at all
It was a wonderful location, and the hotel offers afternoon tea /snack. Having breakfast on the rooftop was so great. A experience.
Excellent facility and staff. The area around the hotel is downtown Alexandria. It’s crowded and a bit noisy during the summer season but definitely walkable and close to many landmarks. If you would like a nice facility with great breakfast, I highly recommend Metropole!
Funky hotel with some charm and friendly staff.
This hotel is a beautiful old building from 1902. It has been well preserved and was a wonderful place to stay. We loved the old escalator, the rooftop terrace restaurant and having booked a ‘direct sea view’ room we had a fabulous view from our hotel window of the sea and the historic Fort Qaitbay. Service was top notch from the moment we stepped through the front door and the food was excellent, too. We highly recommend this hotel.
I like the well preserved period atmosphere at Le Metropole. The public areas and my room were clean and well furnished in period style. The hotel is well located with easy and safe access to the sea front as well as the city. All the staff were helpful and polite. The rooftop resultant was great and a nice place to eat and drink with great views of the eastern harbour. I will stay again and have no hesitation recommend it as a good place to stay in Alexandria……..
Welcome and check-in process was delightful. Historic building with authentic room's decoration. Very friendly and helpful staff. Amazing location and view. The food quality was superior.
Incredible hotel
This is an incredible hotel with interesting history, amazing complimentary amuse-bouche, roof top restaurant and great location in the heart of Alexandria by the beach promenade.
It is a great view and nice area, luxurious old school furniture
Excellent
A unique experience. Everything about this place is picturesque. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. I highly recommend it!
Best hotel in Alexandria
Amazing hotel, all staffs were wonderful, helpful and polite. I can't have enough to say good things about all staffs. Really kind and patient.
This hotel was super cute and the customer service was the best from all the hotels I said in Egypt!
Great location, Excellent customer service , clean and nicely restored
We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Definitely something different than all the similar chain hotels. The city was a bit disappointing, I was expecting a bit more Mediterranean vibe. The streets were full of garbage, that is cleaned the next morning, but it is very overwhelming if you are not used to that.
Beautiful old building with a magnificent view, but impossible to rest because of the street noise. The Internet didn't work half the time. The staff is nice, but don't know how to deal with things.Often no one answers the phone. I didn't mind the charming ancient elevator, but for anyone who has difficulty climbing the stairs, it would be a problem. Good breakfast. amazing romantic rooftop restaurant with spotty service.
Beautiful hotel
Magnificent building maintaining its old world charm. Superb food in the Sky View restaurant.
Staff were simply wonderful. Attentive service. Nothing was too much trouble. Atmospheric heritage property nicely blending old and modern. Both the dining room and restaurant were unique. You have to stay.
The hotel itself is really great. Old world luxury vibes. The elevator is great. Best breakfast I had in Egypt, although not saying much! The little balcony is cool, with the perfect view of the water. Staff is excellent, super helpful, well trained and courteous although the "security" is hilarious because the metal detector goes off on everyone and they just waive them through, myself included. All of this said - I can still hear the sound of car horns honking a week later. From 430 am to at least 1 am every day. Super, super loud car horns. They need to do a better job of soundproofing the rooms.
The hotel is worn out with no updates, water heater is not function which not a good thing in winter ... staff on the other hand are very polite.
Excellent service, problem with wifi
Amazing Stay at Metropole Hotel
The location is Amazing, the service is excellent, the staff is so friendly. it is a recommended stay for all people visiting Alex fog joy and pleasant stay
Perfect place to stay
Overall good
Beautiful hotel and centrally located. Sky view restaurant was excellent!
The uniqueness of the hotel
A one off charmer
This hotel is a real slice of history, a step back into the messy past of the city. OK its not exactly all mod cons but if you want charm right at the heart of the city, this is for you. its a noisy place, steps from the waterfront, steps from the local bazaars and market places. Whats not to love? And of course the rooftop restaurant is your own slice of a travel glossy. the stand out thing though was the friendliness of the staff.... Don't expect western style luxury but enjoy something really rather unique. A one off.
Very welcoming and friendly staff that took very good care of us and helped us with whatever we needed. The hotel is quite cute and quaint, our room was overlooking the Sea. However, it was a bit disappointing to have the view of a bit of a dirty park in between the hotel and the Sea. Overall experience was good, but the mattress was very soft and not firm at all..it was NOT good at all for someone with back pain. The rooftop restaurant was so nice!! Great view. We had the buffet breakfast up there..it was so peaceful and just beautiful set up. Food was good. Coffee was average.
Beautiful, historic and well located building with very comfortable rooms and great service. I really recommend it!
It’s a classic. I go there for nostalgia and it has great staff and a wonderful view and location.
The location of this hotel is its biggest attribute. The restaurant on the rooftop is great, food was very good and service excellent. As for the room, it was clean but we were disappointed to get 2 single beds as opposed to 1 double. As it often happens with Expedia reservation, the hotel didn't seem ready for our arrival, struggling to find the booking and then a room. This showed when we arrived to the room and the water was running brown. Unsure if this room had been used for some time. The water ran clear after a few minutes. The beds were clean and comfortable and the bathroom was very clean and a good space. Overall it's a pleasing hotel for its location and restaurant.
Good
We got the rooms we asked for and Reda, the concierge was excellent and helpful
Our room wasn’t booked by Expedia so we had to pay the first night until the lovely staff sorted it out the following morning,
Amazing view and a great location - easy access. The service is not optimal and cleanliness is terrible. However a lot of refurbishment in progress with a very unique in location sky lounge, yet service especially in breakfast is not ideal and quality of food is below average.
Location is very unique. Classic old design of the hotel is amazing
I liked the roof and the view, hated the condition on the room, it’s over priced for its conditions
Such a cute hotel!!
Quite place, in the heart of the city, and the unique French background music all the time
I prefer this hotel more the others it's my first choice as it has historical character which I love,In general most of staff is helpful specially miss Basent the receptionist she is excellent,I booked one junior sweet room and one double room ,received the key of the room at 1400 but till 1545 didn't receive it first problem for my sweet the plumbing the water spread on the bathroom ground and Aircodation wz high sound and noisy second one my room the plumbing so bad water always spread in the bathroom till 2300 and pressure of water is weak I think that the bathrooms in need of renew but the best thing Fouad this year the roof is fantastic really it's great design to change the breakfast from first floor to the roof it's more than great.
An amazing hotel
It was amazing as the hotel is very good and the staff are very friendly also the skyroof is very exciting and the entertainment is very nice
Wonderful Hotel.... great staff and service I highly recommend this hotel and I look forward to my next stay there ....
Sea front Location and old style building But no beach facilities
Great location, very good hot breakfast & staff Aircondition wasn't working.
One of the most terrible hotel in the world.
Noisy, dated and lack of care and maintenance. Stay away from this hotel.
Nostalgic charm from an era now worn down by time. Luxurious and tattered at the same time. We like it. And it’s a great location.
I was given a room way below what they call superior deluxe room
The hotel were very helpful in arranging a taxi pick up from the airport, which worked well. However, when I checked in beyond midnight I found in my room #110 that the large glass door windows did not close properly and wind kept blowing them open. I arrived to find the curtains billowing in the wind. The porter who kindly assisted me with my luggage did nothing to close the window and given the cool ambient temperature the room was cold. During the night the window blew open again and the noise of the traffic disturbed me. I only got 3.5 hours sleep. In addition, the mineral water was frozen solid, the shampoo bottle was half empty, the toilet bowl was cracked so water from the bowl leaked on to the bathroom floor, the hot water took over 5 minutes to arrive which was a considerable waste of water. The carpets were splashed with paint, the wall plaster was peeling and flaking off. The exterior of the building is poorly presented but the facade facing the Mediterranean Sea has scaffolding covered in gauze and the needed refurbishment is underway. However, the noise of the construction, the rubble on my balcony and again my windows blowing open made a very uncomfortable experience. Breakfast buffet was very good. The staff were surly, they did not engage or make eye contact. The hotel is old, it is full of art and paintings from a bygone era, but it is poorly managed, poorly maintained and customer care is severely lacking.
.Being close to the sea was a plus. wonderful dessert restaurant a few doors down and lots of shopping all around.
Location. It was central location close to many attractions. Nice historic place . Good buffet breakfast. Courteous and friendly staff.
A gem in the city centre.
Stayed there for one night to have a taste of the city, Alexandria. The hotel looks old and worn out on the outside. But the inside is a gem. The Grand Victorian décor is ambient and appealing. Really appreciated the welcome drink at check in. Check in was quick and I was allowed to check in early. My single room with a single bed is spacious enough for one person feels very comfortable and the bathroom is super spacious enough for 2 people to be inside. Though I could not have my room upgraded with sea view. The city view from balcony of the room is also amazing and the outside noise is mute with balcony doors closed. The breakfast buffet included is excellent has something for every one. And the location of the hotel is very central and close to the Mediterranean with many restaurants and bars around.
Location is great, Rooms are not maintained, had to change the room 3 times due to malfunction bathrooms and unclean floors
Historic hotel in central location
Hotel is historic (loved the tapestries and high ceilings) and, as expected, a bit dated (hard to close doors, noise travels, tub siding loose, room smelled damp). But also old fashioned in the best of ways--warm hand towel and a cold drink provided at arrival, and a beautiful, old (though a bit clumsy to use) elevator. Internet from our Floor 3 room was rather slow. Note to Western travelers--toilet flush is not very strong and does not accept TP well, as is typical throughout Egypt. Hotel location cannot be beat, with views of the Mediterranean in a bustling shopping district that felt very safe (and it had added security of a doorman). Real highlight of the hotel was Christine, who worked the concierge desk. Her English was very good (which was helpful because my Arabic is not so great). She helped us arrange a fair-price taxi for a few hours of sightseeing, and even had her colleague go buy train tickets for us, and then arranged a last minute a car ride back to Cairo when our train tickets didn't work out for us. She was extremely patient and helpful. Breakfast was included in our stay and had tasty made to order omelettes.
it was comfortable amazing time spent and stay in Le Metropole hotel in Alexandria
Nice central location and great sea view. Room furniture and bedding could improve. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Old charm with proper maintenance. This hotel is old, but high ceiling with extra space in the room. Central location. Due to my limited time, I tried to arrange a tour guide in advance. But this hotel never responded to my inquiry. Yet, upon check-in around 7 p.m., the reception staff introduced me to an English-speaking tour guide from 8 a.m. on the following day at a reasonable pricing. So, I was able to do my Alexandria tour efficiently and sufficiently though the quality of the guide was average.
Disgraceful practice of dual pricing. Bathroom fixture broken. Staff good. Breakfast poor selection. Decor tired. I am Middle Eastern so my comments cannot be attributed to cultural bias. They need to up their game and assist Egyptian tourism by being more welcoming to non-local guests.
Love this hotel
Amazing stay .. can't wait to go again .. fell in love with the place.
A great experience
It's a grand old hotel with high ceilings, beautiful fittings and smallish rooms. The breakfast is excellent, and the WiFi is awful. The staff are very good. It is a little worn in places, but it is a great experience to stay here.
Mostly very good
A beautiful old hotel, with poor water pressure and temperature in the shower, and lousy Wi-Fi. Excellent breakfast, and very good staff. It is a great experience to stay in a Grand hotel like this.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The property is beautiful, of course probably a far cry from it's original glory but so cool to stay in a historic hotel and to imagine what life was like in 1902. The rooms are really nice and we had an awesome sea view. It is in a very central location which makes it convenient but also very loud from the street noise so if you are sensitive, beware. Breakfast was included and was good, but not excellent. Service was great and friendly. Overall enjoyed my stay.
Tired old hotel in a central location.
Lê Metropol Hotel Alexandria 24-27 Sept 18 Reception was ok though they hadn’t prepared the room with two separate beds as requested earlier. This was fixed and an extra bed supplied. The hotel is in the centre of Alexandria which is its strongest point. Sadly it’s now old and tired, and has lost its former glory days. We paid more or a bigger room and the room was good sized with a reasonable size bathroom, but again dated and in poor working condition. For example, the shower over the bath didn’t work and the hot water was mostly cold. Thankfully, this was summertime and we made do with cool water for showers etc. House keeping was good and friendly. The lift is still the original lift from early 1900s. While it’s a bit tight with four people, it provides a unique lift experience, and is quite safe despite its manually operated safety features and appearance. Wifi was generally adequate in the main areas, though as we had a room near the end of the corridor it didn’t work well in the room. The TV remotes had also seen better days and some channels didn’t work at all. Breakfast was a bit disappointing in quality, although they had a reasonable range of local dishes including a pancake stand, and cold bottled water. Other restaurants offered much better local dishes. The best feature is the location, Overall this hotel is 3 stars at best.
Very ordinary hotel,,, old style !!! The breakfast was not much !!!

There is a lot of traffic noise but I don’t think you can avoid that. A magnificent period hotel well worth a visit
