Great little location for one or two nights. Very convenient to the Bio Bay tours and food.
An ok experience
It was an ok experience. I wish I would’ve known more information about the services that were available. I didn’t know that the bathroom was located outside of the room. Also, there was no refrigerator ti keep cold items nor a coffee maker to make coffee. Which by the way the island, didn’t have coffee almost anywhere especially in the evening/night hours. The second floor of the bunk bed was too closed to the ceiling. There’s no “hot” water in the showers. Other than that the room was very clean and organized. The bathrooms were clean as well but very small and uncomfortable to place items since you need to get dressed inside the bathroom.
It was for one night, it was Xmas when we woke up, no food to be found close to hotel.
Conveniently located near everything, with super friendly staff.
The property was comfortable and everything was so calm and quiet . It was easy to call taxi too when I needed . Walkable to all the restaurants and ways to book bio tour right across from this hotel.
There was no hot water and candy wrappers in the trash can inside the room when we checked in. There was no television, mini fridge or microwave. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The air conditioning was ice cold and refreshing. The black out curtains were also an added appreciated luxury for sleeping in.
I booked for a family room, and I got a room that is big enough for two kids! Days later, my acount was charged without authorization. Lazy Guesthouse is dirty, the bathrooms are outside and filty, there are no televisions, and the area is noisy! Additionally, they promote false advertisement. The rooms are not what they are advertised to be! The room was advertised to accommodate 3 adults and 2 children. The room can ONLY accommodate 1 adult and child. Overall, I had the worst experience ever! Besides, my card was charged without authorization!
Our stay was exactly what we needed for the weekend. Great AC, various dining options, walkable to the beach, wifi, and easy check in and check out. The manager and staff were very kind and helpful over the phone on the days leading up to our stay.
DONT STAY HERE! The owners have decided that this guesthouse needs no management. I received no information, text message or email with the check-in information and when I arrived there was absolutely no point of contact. Even though they also own the restaurant next door they were extremely rude and act like the guesthouse isn't their business pointing at a sign that had no phone number nor email for communication. I was out in the middle of the night for almost 40 min because no one had the decency to solve the problem they created by not emailing me in the first place.
Awesome area
Weekend a Vieques
Nice decoration, siple place, nice to sleeping. I onlly stayed one night.
Great!
Nice
This property is not advertised as being a hostel but it is. Everything seems clean, one light in the bathroom was out so I showered in the dark. The bar attached and road is loud but they do provide earplugs. No front desk for check in, I wish they had been upfront about it. Overall, not bad for being pretty inexpensive. Very close to beach and food.
Its very loud at nights so keep that in mind. Otherwise for the price its all what you need for a night. Theres no TV in the rooms. Theres a lot of places to eat walking distance.
Decent place near the beaches. Do the bio bay tour!
Owner making money but terrible accommodations
Cottages are old and Smell of stale mildew and humidity. No hot water in our room. Difficult walk with uneven floor and hard to find room to exit. Very poor decoration. Shower small and poorly put together by hand. We DO NOT recommend!
Do Not Be Deceived
We absolutely loved the island of Vieques. We did not, however, enjoy our accommodations. When booking this property, we initially did not know we would be staying in a place in which the bathrooms and showers were seperate. Our booking clearly stated 2 double beds (we are a family of 4) however when arriving, we had bunk beds only one of which was a double. The bathrooms were ok but smelled of urine and of the 3 showers, one was locked, one didn’t have light and the other had no consistent temperature. This place has potential and is in a great location! It would have been nicer had we known ahead of time what the space was like and had 2 double beds!!
The shower was either burning hot, or lukewarm, there was no way to make it in between. The soap dispenser in the shower fell off the wall and there was no bar soap in the room at all. There did not appear to be any staff around at all. The room was not cleaned while we were there and we had to deal with one set of towels, the entire time. Two total towels for two people for three days to make due for showers, visits to the beach, and kayaking on the bio-bay. That wasn’t great. The bed was comfortable enough however, there were no blinds so the lights came in from the outside.
It’s a pretty basic room, but all we needed for one night after visiting the bioluminescent bay. We ate at the bar in the same property and the food was very good.
Unfortunately check in was not smooth. I never got check in instructions emailed to me, and I had to ask the workers at the restaurant to help me which I know they don’t like to be bothered with that. The lights were flickering, there were mosquitoes in the room, and worst of all the battery was missing in the smoke alarm so it was beeping nonstop. Luckily I got someone to take it out but it was late and the last thing I wanted to deal with.
Hotel was very small but cute. The main thing was it was very clean. Adam, who we dealt with most, was always very friendly and extremely helpful.
Great location, good price.
Simple accommodations that had everything we needed after adventuring around the island.
Clean rooms, all things is in working condition
It was a great place to stay for one night. Affordable price.
responsive
moved us to a great room when the ceiling leaked after a storm
Perhaps it's because I booked through Expedia, but I didn't have the door code or room number by arrival, there is no front office, and they don't answer their phone. A woman informed me I should've received an email with the information, which I didn't, and referred me to a bartender at Lazy Jacks for help. They handed me a paper with my details. I just needed a place to shower and sleep and this fit my needs. Room was clean, comfortable bed, plenty of pillows. The AC is programmed to 75F. You need to take your own towels. The only cons were the lamps on the nightstand flickered and the lights around outside prevented the room from being dark for sleep. Quick walk to the Bioluminescent Tour pickups and several restaurants.
The people who work there are fantastic, the property is as described. Nice close by restaurants.
Clean and quiet rooms. Totally acceptable accommodations for the price and location. Very easy and responsive communication with Char . I highly recommend the Lazy Guesthouse for an easy and relaxing stay on Vieques in Esperanza.
Well.. Not really even sure where to start on this one. But basically, it’s a spoofed up double wide trailer. It’s self check in, which is great, but we got here and there was no key in our lock box. The manager, although not even remotely apologetic, did come quickly and switched our room. Funnily enough, the room we were supposed to stay in, was actually under construction which we noticed the following day. The place itself is rough, and you get what you pay for. The bloody, smashed bugs on the walls, broken blinds, lamp with no light bulb, missing smoke alarm, exceptionally thin bath towels, a dispenser with maybe an inch of unknown substance- assuming shampoo?, and a shower which constantly changes from scalding hot, to freezing cold, are just some of the highlights you too can experience at this place. We also found the AC unit a bit tricky to adjust. But surprisingly, the bed was fairly comfortable. Of note- it’s also next to the bar that stays open late. If you’re really on a budget, this place is fine. But if you have some wiggle room, wiggle, and look elsewhere.
The blanket stinks. Orthers are okay
No clear check in instruction and wrong contact phone number on the booking confirmation.
The website said there was one room left at the price and we were the only guests checked in there . I thought that was strange. It is all self check in and there is no manager on duty and there is nobody to help you out you just put the code in the day you check in and you're on your own so if you have a problem there's nobody to talk to and the people at lazy Jack's are not affiliated with this hostel at all. If I would have known we were the only people out of the whole hostel I probably would not have booked !! It was really cute and we had our own shower when it said it had shared bathrooms so that was a plus . It was walking distance to lazy Jack's restaurant and the water ! You can sign up for the bioluminescent Bay tour and they pick you up right there at lazy Jack's and the golf carts to rent are right next door which is great. All and all I enjoyed the place .
The room is small but sufficient, clean and neat. The shower and bath are outside of the room, but this was not a problem.
Clean.
It’s worth only $50 per night.
A lot of mosquitoes in the room. AC was cold, which is amazing during the daytime, but freezing at night under 1 thin blanket. The remote to control the AC didn’t work. You can also hear loud music from a bar down the road until 1am and then roosters/pheasants screaming at 4am every 20 seconds. I had to sleep with a sweater and earplugs in. Otherwise the area was good with walking distance to restaurants/bars/tour meeting points. And the bed was comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was good.
Cheapest deal online, so can't complain about that 👍 but the ac units are way to big for a small room and create massive condensation, so much so, that it's dripping from the bathroom ceiling like rain, and has produced an unsightly amount of black mold, making it completely unpleasant to even be in there. At first glance, the room appears very nice, but It's clear that the cleaning staff doesn't focus on the room as a whole, because the amount of debris under the bed was disgusting, plastic cupS, sand, hair balls, hair tie, wrappers and a battery, plus Cobwebs in the corners and all in the only lil window of the room. Despite that, the location is great. I would just recommend that they provide a broom for the room, so guests can keep the dirt they track in down to a minimum. Thanks for the experience, it was amazing in vieques!
Lots of wild animals from horses to roosters kept it entertaining!
I love the hotel and area.
Is near for everything
Some weird reviews about this place. If you read the description, you won’t be shocked by anything. Exactly as stated. Not a hotel, not a hostel, but a guesthouse behind one of the best bars on the island. Booked a queen room, exactly as pictured with our own toilet and shower. If you’re staying a single night on the island to do a bio bay tour this is a super cheap option. No bugs, no smell, no dirt, clean sheets, queen bed, private room. Exactly what we were looking for. Located walking distance from adventure sports kiosks and 5-6 very good restaurants with English and Spanish speaking workers.
Loved my stay, super comfortable and very cute.
The room was wonderful. Very clean and tidy. The wife slept wonderfully well. However, a generator (or whatever) kept kicking on. The vibration and hum from it would not let me sleep. There is no TV or other amenities in room. Bed, shower and AC. If you want a place to rest your head after a a long day /our with a great bar/restaurant right there... this is tops!
the AC unit shook the entire room the hot water was not working they were unable to get hot water working reliably or resolve noisy AC they refused any compensatoin we relocated
Lovely place to stay with access to food and beach
I loved staying here - the location and vibe were perfect. Got a private room - was clean, comfortable and easy to access. Owner/manager Maria was easy to reach and plan with - super friendly. Location next to Lazy Jacks was convenient for an easy stroll home at night.
Lazy Hostel didn't have a washer or Dryer for the Quest. They have Washer for the facility, however None to use in the common Area. The second observation was that the Lock Box for keys wasn't Locked, when I dropped my room Key. The Lazy hostel is Cozy and clean, However this service should be provided. Thank you
Very convenient.
Great staff, not enough bathrooms and showers!!!
The information that was giving to us was terms and conditions that was not on our reservation when we booked ot 6 months ago. They sent it 1 week before we came. Not right
Front desk people opens up for check-in super late. They have many employees does various schedule I substance control. They should do atleast background check on people before hiring them. Kitchen is super dirty most of the time. Employees should not do drugs while working.
The communication with the management was precise and timely. The rooms are good in general, although some natural light and air would definitely be appreciated. Bathrooms cleanliness is ok. Breakfast was a very welcome surprise (even though the volunteer who did my check in didn't mention anything at all to me). The workers are basically backpacking volunteers so expect mixed feelings about your treatment (some nicer, some not exactly so..)
The location is great. The facilities are significantly run down but it’s safe.
The website indicated a quadruple, and there were two beds and not much else. Got tons of bug bites. Bathrooms we're dirty with no hot water. Noisy.
Great clean hostel that was right in the center of everything in Vieques. Clean room and bathrooms. Felt safe the entire time. Knowledgeable and friendly staff that gave great suggestions on places to eat and see. Fun bar was attached and seemed to be the hangout place on the island. Great drinks and people watching! Would definitely stay here again.
Staff and location is good. One drawback is many mosquitoes there.
If you like camping then that’s where you wanna be other than that disappointment room for four people too small to me it felt like a jail cell. Bathrooms are outside and showers are outside paid for my stay but did not stay
Great stay
Great property. AC was better than at the hotel on the mainland. It’s a hostel so don’t go if you have other expectations. Employees were super friendly and helpful.
Good on a budget
Room was as expected. Small, no frills, but ok. Not happy that breakfast is advertised, but covid EXCUSE was used not to provide. Some places still serve breakfast.
So many things wrong. To start, the hostel employee could not find the key to the original room designated for us so he brought us to a different room to make it “easier.” Not a big deal to us at first because I figured all the rooms would be similar anyway. First thing I noticed was that there was urine left in the toilet and nobody flushed it prior to our arrival. My boyfriend and I did not get a chance to inspect the room closely because we quickly left to grab dinner and join a Bio Bay tour. After returning around 10pm, I took a shower and noticed the water does not get hot or even warm. It is mildly cold at best. Hand soap is watered down. A variety of different bugs are either dead or walking all over the bedsheets, pillowcases, and floor. I can’t tell whether they are bed bugs specifically, but there are way too many for me to be comfortable sleeping on the bed. Lastly, there is a cigarette hole burned into the bedsheet. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I returned late from the tour and there is no alternative for a place to stay. Please be wary before booking a stay at this hostel. It might be worth your while to spend a little extra for a better accommodation.
My favorite of the 3 hostels I stayed at in Puerto Rico. Staff was friendly as were other travelers. Pretty clean but my bedsheet was all sandy so not the best. I liked the open and outdoorsy feel to how this place is set up. Really good location, $5-10 to get from/to the ferry via taxi. Separate bathrooms and showers so something was always open to use.
Pretty good hostel
Typical hostel. Very cool. Kitchen area with free coffee in morning. Private rooms available or dorms. They’re separated from each other, as are the bathrooms/showers for the dorms vs private rooms. Can park your golf cart in the gate so it’s more secure than on the street. Lazy jacks restaurant is part of the hostel and was one of the only food places open in esparanza on a weekday (not that great of food or service); the hostel was much better experience than the restaurant attached. Hostel on main road.
Dismal WiFi
The WiFi at the hostel is dismal. Beware, if this is something necessary for you. The signal is too weak at many parts of the facility to be of any use. Other guests echoed the same issue, and had to resort to walking over to the office in order to get close to the router for a usable wifi signal. That's inconvenient if your room is at the opposite side of the facility, which many are. Additionally, sometimes even being right next to the office and having a strong wifi signal, one still could not get onto the internet. With the owners away from the hostel, the work-stay staff could only offer a collective shrug in rsponse to complaints.
The property is well located right on the water in the most happening location of the Island. The room and communal area was great. Great young vibe with all of the guests and staff members. Adam thanks for giving me the tour and ideas for the Island and making me well at home with the group staff!
Proximity to ocean and restaurants. Lazy jacks is basically part of the property so the party is essentially here every night if that is your thing. We were in the private guest area so it wasn’t noisy and we were able to sleep. Mattress was thin and flimsy so that needs to change.
Great staff. But the hostel is not on the beach as i thought. Next to noisy bar.
It is a hostel, after all. As advertised. Even the private rooms are super tiny and almost no window. Banging of bathroom and kitchen doors all night. But great location in a wonderful spot with great little bar/restaurant next door. Easy access to Biobay tour.
Lovely and funny staff (Volunteers)! Great location in Esperanza. I had an amazing Christmas thanks to them.
I came to this hostel a couple of years back and really enjoyed my experience then, but this time my experience was much different. When I first came a couple of years back, there was a nice common room for people to sit together (the one pictured), and I remember breakfast was pretty awesome - back then they had oatmeal, bread, and peanut butter/ jelly. I was excited to come back, but to my disappointment, the common room was no longer there, and aside from a small amount of instant oatmeal, there was no breakfast in the morning, despite the promise of breakfast when booking (and the signs saying there would be breakfast around the place). There was also mold on one of the pillows in our room. It was also very noisy. My friends couldn't sleep during the night because the neighbors were making very loud noises (of the moaning kind, if you know what I mean). Service wasn't great either -the owner was not the friendliest to us and seemed annoyed that we tried to check in early. He also asked us for $20 as a deposit for the bio bay tour, but it was never credited towards the fee for the tour. I do appreciate that it was budget friendly, but not sure if I would come back.
Awesome vibe!
Y’all the people that work at this hostel are great. They’re able to help and are very accommodating!
PROS and CONS
PROS 1. Smooth check-in on a 4th of July (thanks to a lovely volunteer from Texas; unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the young lady) 2. 20USD at night was a great deal in La Esperanza. 3. Property is well located (in front of the ocean, next to a bar/restaurant, and kitchen is open till late) 4. Washer and dryer available for free, just need to bring your own detergent 5. Hot water 24-7. 6. No curfew. CONS 1. Beds are not number, which means, first take first serve; at check in I was granted a lower level bunk bed, because of a knee injury, when I got back to sleep, someone took the bed and hang all her intimate clothing, the solution offered was to take a private room and pay for the difference (50USD per night). 2. Floor outside the dorms is gravel made, which means you can hear every soul that get in and out from the dorms. 3. Day manager has no manners and zero sense of hospitality, totally the opposite to the rest of the employees that are volunteering in the place. 4. Lockers are for rent 20USD.

Great place to stay. Room needed more hooks to hang things and would have been nice to have access to beach chairs and coolers.
