Owner Gary and Chef Chris were very welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house. Very natural hospitality minded folks, Gary thoughtfully pre-booked us dinner reservations nearby, which was very thoughtful. Canapés and wine happy hour was a delight. Would love to come back soon!
short break in Taupo
Great hospitality, lovely setting. Excellent cooked breakfast. Good position for exploring the region. The only thing lacking was in-house dining at night but this is available in busy periods. and the host provides details of local restaurants.
Very nice house and garden
Owners were very gracious and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, cooked to each guest’s request. Our suite (Cherrywood) smelled musty, if you’ve allergic to molds and such you may want to try somewhere else.
I will review this property in bullet points due to insufficient space. -5 star, luxurious accomodation -Beautiful decor, inc. paintings & furniture -Chef Chris, star of the hotel, friendly & welcoming, goes out of his way -Delicious breakfast, warm croissants, toast & fruit salad -Pines Executive Suit-warm, clean, homely -Loved the bath, spacious shower & comfortable bed -attention to detail in all areas of the lodge - @ $744 a night, expected extraordinary service instead Gary the owner was hostile -Paid fully through Expedia before arriving at the lodge, showed Gary (owner) my booking -Gary, said to me "Are you aware of the tariffs this accomodation incurs?-rude -Owner offered a glass of wine which was never given, small detail but significant for a "luxury" accom. -Breakfast the next morning, Gary said to me that his bank card went missing and I thought what does this have to do with me? And then told me that he had actually found it. I believe he was trying to make me uncomfortable. He didn't make an effort to make small talk, so it was weird. -At breakfast, harassed me, regarding details of my debit card as he stated that he didn't know how to access the payment from Expedia (interesting since he has lots of reviews of people who have obviously booked through Expedia)- inappropriate since we were trying to enjoy our breakfast, there's a time & place. -Complained to Expedia, Gary denied. He tried to call, we were over it.
Hospitality at its best
Wonderful place , Gary and his team made it exceptional with there personalised service
Gary and Shirley iare the ultimate hosts. The accommodations are superb-no detail is left out. Food was delicious-chef Chris does a wonderful job. Highly recommend this beautiful lodge.
Nice place to stay
Very clean and very hommy.
Great Lodge
My wife and I stayed here for two nights March 2017. The lodge has a feeling more like a staying in a private home. Our room was very spacious with a great lake view. Gary and his wife make your stay very special. They have an excellent knowledge of the area and provided recomendations for day trips. The grounds a fabulous with many species of exotic plantings. The whole experience was world class.
Lovely stay
Thus is a great B&B, the lodges are very quiet and there is a lovely view of the Lake and mountains behind.
Lovely, privately owned boutique Lodge
Overall experience was a calming, relaxing experience in beautiful surroundings being cared for by kind, considerate owners and staff.
Nice upmarket Motel
Has awesome views of the lake. I would however say that it is a bit over priced for what you get. I dont consider this a hotel, it is more of an upmarket motel.
A lodge to remember!
This was an excellent lodge - comfortable, clean, fabulous food and excellent service. Set in a beautiful garden overlooking the lake it was truly a lovely get away! Looking forward to returning.
Pricey for what you get
This is more of a bed and breakfast. Not a lodge and it is in a private house with the owners living on the floor below the main floor. Helpful hosts but was surprised of the feel of this place because it is someones house. We felt that it lacked privacy. Nice views, dated interior, and about a 5-10 minute drive outside the main town of Taupo.
Excellent experience!!
What an absolute pleasure to stay at Lake Taupo Lodge. This stylish boutique lodge has a fantastic retro appeal and lake views. We stayed in the Cherrywood suite which was clean, cozy and roomy. The attention to detail is a highlight. I wished we had stayed longer to enjoy the gardens and patios. Breakfast was homecooked and 5 star! Hosts Gary and Shirley were lovely and helpful.
Elegant Lodge with views of the Lake.
In the style of Frank Lloyd Wright, this lodge, set in a beautiful garden, has a wonderful ambience with stunning views over the Lake Taupo. The accommodation is state of the art with underfloor heating, gas fire and modern facilities. The owners and staff went out of their way to look after our every need and advise us as to the sights to be visited in the area. The breakfast was one of the best we have encountered anywhere in the world. The choice was huge and outstanding using only the freshest and best ingredients. The muesli was homemade and an absolute standout ,the croissants imported from France, and the coffee was excellent. There was chopped fruit, yoghurt and about eight choices for a hot gourmet breakfast, not usually found in the best hotels.
Facilities: Home away from home; Value: Affordable; Service: Go the extra mile; Cleanliness: Spotless; Highly recommended to others. Great place, great people and we will definetly be back.
Facilities: Top of the line, State of the art; Service: Remarkable, Go the extra mile, Outstanding; Cleanliness: Spotless, Beautiful; Breakfasts were delightful
