Buffet was excellent with an enormous array of food. Private onsen was approx ¥3300 for 45minutes. There is quite a lot to do around the local area, we stayed one night but easily could have filled in two days.
A large hotel with extensive spa facilities, great buffet breakfast and dinner options and extremely helpful staff. The building and rooms are a bit dated, need a modern upgrade.
This place was much different than I expected, it was a bit dated but the Japanese style room was very comfortable! And also the beds were comfy, we slept so well! The staff was incredible even though we had a language barrier and only a few of the staff members spoke English, it worked out totally great! Dinner and breakfast was included into our stay which was a nice surprise! It was incredible! We got to try little bites of Japanese cuisine which we otherwise would have not. They also had a few western bites as well! We were overwhelmed with amount of options and everything was delicious! We were about 40 minutes away from Nikko but it was easy to get around, took a taxi a couple times to get the train station early, buses doesn’t run continuously here. We had a lovely time and also used the private baths which were really nice!
Upon check in, requested taxis for the next morning for our party of 11 but none were available due it being a weekend. Front desk staff arranged for the hotel bus to take us.
Property was very quiet and clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast Buffett was great
There was a very loud fan noise outside of our window and it kept us awake the whole night. Both my friend and I work traveling and we heard jt. This property is very old and dated. The buffet was full of food however it was very mediocre. We shortened our stay from two nights to one night
We had a lovely big room with a fabulous view.
We really enjoyed the high standards of the buffet breakfast and dinner. And tea and coffee time with snacks were very enjoyable
After 7 days of busy touring around Tokyo this was exactly what we needed! Being surrounded by the lush green hills was lovely. The accommodation was great, we opted for a Japanese style room and it was wonderful. While we were enjoying the fantastic buffet our room was transformed with futons. The food was amazing, something for every taste, my teen sons had a wonderful time trying many different dishes over our stay.
Sub-standard 3* hotel for the price of a 5*. Difficulty the get in, far from all the nice attractions and the fact that the staff speaks very poor English, makes the experience more an adventure than anything else. Food was good, rooms were ok…did I mentioned I payed 5* price? The pictures on Orbitz look amazing thou.
I love the food selection, staff were very nice. Rooms and amenities are great
We had a wonderful time at Kinugawa Onsen. The traditional Japanese rooms were wonderful and the breakfast and dinner buffet were wonderful. We also enjoyed the public baths, karaoke rooms, and reflexology massage. The gift shop was also lovely stocked. The views of the mountains and river from the rooms and floors were wonderful. Highly recommend if you want some low key, nature retreat from your visit to Japan.
The room is not as new as it looks in the photos. The lobby has been renovated. Great welcome tea and sweets. The half an hour performance is excellent.
As the only westerners that we saw at the Hotel, we had a fabulous “Japanese” experience. The staff went out of their way to welcome us and to help us with any requests. Room was well serviced each day. Beds were very comfortable. The half board was wonderful. The breakfast and dinner selections were endless. The food was fresh, well presented and the variety was exciting for us as we got to try many different Japanese foods we otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to taste. We didn’t use the Onsen so can’t comment about that. There were drinks and snacks provided throughout the afternoon also. One of the nice things for us was being provided with the traditional Yukata to wear around the Hotel. Very comfortable and relaxing. A nice surprise was an evening performance by a Magician/Gymnast artist who was very entertaining. Although English was not generally spoken in the hotel, we had no problems communicating with staff as they went out of their way to help and understand any situation. We used Google translate for anything that was not understood by us or the hotel staff. Although not much around the immediate hotel for tourists, we had a car so it was the ideal, quiet location for us. Valet service for the car was efficient and quick. Can’t speak highly enough of this wonderful Hotel.
Clean and spacious room, great buffet, great price
Amazing staff!!! It is a little tricky to find and take “public transportartion and trains” and if you arrive to Nikko very late in the evening past 6 there will be no Taxis available. They will look after your needs and accomodations all the time. They were able to pick us up from the train station since we were in despair basically… and a little lost after a very long traveling day. They even helped us with dinner since we were really late and to coordinate a taxi service for the next day!!! I wished i could ve stayed longer to relax more. The breakfast and dinner buffet is a loooooot of food for everyone and a great variety of desserts as well. The reflexology therapy was great although for an additional fee. The have public and private onsen experiences as well. Great place! Great staff!!! Yuka was amazing!!! And all the staff very caring and accommodating even in the dinnning room. Everyone smiles and always in a good mood and attitude.
Staff were very nice and helpful! Loved the experience at this hotel.
Fantastic property. Great service, good, and amenities. Wonderful onsen.
All the staffs r nice n professional. Room is beautiful n the view is nice.
We stayed one night. We had good experiences.
Very good food and very clean room. Loved onsen
What an amazing place! They had everything! The Onsen (bath) was quite an experience. I highly recommend this Onsen hotel. The area around here is also amazing. We visited Edo Wonderland and the shrine at Nikko. We also rode a ropeway within walking distance and took a taxi to a nearby waterfall.
The property overall was great. The included breakfast and dinner was an unexpected but welcomed amenity.
Typical Japanese Inn, good amenities, offering both public and private onsen. Choice of tatami rooms or Western rooms. Well stocked shop.
Traditional Ryokan with good onsen
The hotel is a bit remote and best be accessible by car. Buffet dinner and breakfast with a variety of choice. The Onsen was good.
Dinner and breakfast were fine.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. Facilities are well maintained. Good experience
Onsen was great, very relaxing! But a little difficult to get there. Not really within walking distance, most convenient are bus or taxi from Kinugawa Onsen Station.
The private Onsen was amazing, rooms are large and well equipped. Only downside is that the hotel looks out into an abandoned hotel on the other side of the banks. We weren’t huge fans of the food either, there weren’t enough English descriptions to decipher what the ingredients were (to avoid allergins).
good for relaxation.
A relaxing stay in this Onsen Hotel. Plenty of food at the buffet dinner and breakfast. A good value all you can drink package for 1800 yen pp available at dinner.
Perfect Relaxing Stay
Super fantastic stay, very nice to stay here for 3 days - shuttle bus Yen 190 p.p. from Kinugawan Onsen station to hotel convenient, but not all the time - taxi around Yen 1,000 one way - the hotel facilities were excellent, clean rooms, onsen was fantastic! we will be back - only strange thing is that you have to pay additional spa-tax at the end of the stay (not a crazy amount), but still.... staff in hotel perfect, so friendly and nice - worth to stay! A little away from Nikko JR station, but easy to go with public transportation to Tobu and Eddie Wonderland...
Great hot spring, feel comfortable to stay in this location
Nikko tourism
Good experience but a little bit far from Nikko for those who come to visit Nikko. The dinner and breakfast buffet are fair but are everyday the same.
Good size rooms n very well furnished n comfortable . Many onsens in the hotel . 10 min walk to train station.
The best in Kinugawaonsen
This hotel is the best. Couldn’t get a non-smoking room but the smoking room we had smelled fresh and clean. Loved the private onsen baths. Would definitely recommended to friends and all.
We travelled Japan for two weeks and this was absolutely the most unique experience we had. The staff were so welcoming, the rooms were beautifully traditional and the private onsen's are a must! I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a relaxing couple of days. And I would love to go back again.
Nice hotel.
Great hotel and great location in the town, there town just doesn't have much happening and is running down. Its far from Tosho-gu if that's why you're going to Nikko.
Will stay here again!!!
Everything was wonderful, friendly and helpful staff, great service, spacious room, and nice onsen.
almost perfect experience
A big family trip, we are altogether 15 people and we booked 4 rooms, so basically 4 people in 1 room. everything with this hotel is perfect including buffet breakfast and dinner were very good. only draw back is the room is a bit small for 4 people.
Excellent Onsen Hotel.
Truly excellent onsen hotel. From check-in until check-out the serving was amazing. The onsen is big enough that it never felt crowded. Everything is very clean and comfortable. The dinner and breakfast buffet is also outstanding, for example, all you can eat tuna sashimi! I will recommend this place to anyone visiting Kinugawa or Nikko!
Nice hotel, it was pleasant to stay in the hotel.
This is a big hotel and very popular. Facilities were good and the dinner buffet was very good. A little far from Toshogu Shrine but perfect if you want to combine that visit with Edo Wonderland.
Nice onsen hotel
The room is very big and the staff service is good. There is a shuttle bus available at the Kinugawa Onsen station. They have a few onsen pools available. Overall, it is good place to stay.
The room was very good very comfortable to sleep and big space compare to other hotels. The check in process took a bit too long to wait. The staff clearly explain everything that the guests should know about the hotel.
Good facility, nice onsen hot spring indoor and outdoor, buffet meals with wide variety of selection including some vegetarian. Not outstanding in any point, but good and consistent in all areas.
Our total experience during our two-day stay was excellent. The hotel was very well staffed, and all were highly knowledgeable and helpful. Great attitudes!! The room was immaculate (tatami room), and spacious, with nice view of the Kinu River. The buffet was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Highly recommended.
Mahalo Gozai Masu!
Great buffets. A classic Japanese hotel with unfailing service! Walter Abe
Nice hotel
Nice hotel, clean, dining buffet is pretty good but same food everyday.
Traditional Japanese Ryokan..but large
Located in Kinugawa Onsen, about 45 minutes by frequent local train from the Nikko historical area. The good; - easy to get to from Tokyo by Tobu Limited Express train - shuttle bus meets the express trains - warm welcome from staff (some English language skills, especially in the dining room) - lovely, immaculate, large comfortable Japanese style room, but with Western beds and bathroom - views over the Kinugawa Gorge - large hot spring baths - buffet breakfast and dinner that had some of the best food offerings I have ever eaten in Japan - very reasonable room tariff - air con plus the option to open the door onto the verandah if you like fresh air. The not-so-good; - hotel is about 15 minute walk or 5 minute shuttle bus (yen 190) trip from the station - the town has a modern shopping area around the station, but there are a lot of old/abandoned hotels in the town. It's not the prettiest place in the world. - if you want to stay in Nikko itself, this is a train/bus trip away.
everything about our stay was excellent. The japanese style room was well kept and clean, the futons were nice and fluffy. The hotel is huge but you don't feel it, only when you go to the dinning room and see how many more people are there! There was no kaiseki available in the rooms but the food offered at the buffet was plentiful and of a high quality! the highlight was the open air reservable onset baths! they cost an additional fee but totally worth it!
Hotel for family with kids
Big onsen hotel, very busy. Not for couple, people want quiet and relax stay.
Classic hotel with excellent food
Excellent food both dinner and breakfast, as well as hot baths. The condition inside is good, but outside needs some fixing up. There is some distance to trains, although there is a bus service (fee). Wifi only in lobby area is a bit poor.
Great Onsen Hotel
We had a great 2 nights stay in the hotel. The staffs were very friendly and the room was clean and neat. The onsen was relaxing too. Will definitely recommend this hotel if anyone is searching for onsen hotel around this area.
Nice hotel with quite a distance walk from station
While walking from station to the hotel, we saw lots of sakura trees. That reduce the tiredness of the walking. Good spread of dinner and breakfast, I enjoy eating the strawberry provided, which I don't find it in any of the hotel buffet.
stayed in the hotel in April, hotel was excellent, friendly staff, enjoyed our stay
Nice hotel and warm feeling
A bit far from station but nice hotel with warm feeling. Onsen area was a bit small ( 5 pools but 3 of them are small). Buffet variety is one of the best ever!
Friendly staff and spacious new rooms
The drive to the hotel from Nikko's Lake Chuzenji was longer than we expected (slightly over an hour) but we were still happy to have chosen to stay here as the service was great and rooms were newly renovated. We occupied a western style twin room and a Japanese style one and both were lovely. Loved the view from the balcony too.
Nice hotel with great staff
The hotel is located right on the river and is sandwiched by beautiful mountains. The building exterior looks a little old, but it is very clean and well-maintained inside. The staff are very courteous and did a great job in making our stay a wonderful one. The food was very good and there was plenty of it. The hot springs are very nice, and massage was really good as well. I will definitely visit again.
Hotel stuff are very kind, food was excellent, big onsen bath had several kinds and clean, hotel was located in a convenient location, room was very clean! Nothing to complain. We highly recommend this hotel.
Relaxing after a tour
Stayed one night for visiting Nikko
Very special hotel in Kunagawa
This is a very lovely onsen hotel about 30 minutes from Nikko. Our biggest challenge was the difficulty getting there by train, it is a long journey. Furthermore, we had to be at the hotel at a certain time to order the in room Japanese meal so one must watch the clock. Once checked in, the experience is wonderful. The tatami room was spacious, the staff (and there are lots of them) very friendly. Our multi course Japanese dinner was served in our room, we had a gorgeous view of the gorge, and right after, someone came in to set up our futons for the night. The onsen here is clean and relaxing and there are lots of cleaning products to try before and after your soak. Breakfast is buffet with lots of options but only a 2 hour window. And they will call you shortly after 10am to remind you at it is check out time. Highly recommend this experience. Don't forget about
Wonderful Hot Spring Hotel.
Stayed for a couple of nights. Breakfast and dinner were fantastic with the spreads of food available for buffet. Hotel comes with many amenities and is also kid friendly.
Excellent experience
Great stay in a traditional room, excellent buffet, wonderful service.
A must see in Kyoto
We had an excellent time.
Family trip to Nikko
Good hotel with great breakfast and dinner buffets. The description stated there was an indoor pool in addition to the onsen but we were told by the staff that the pool was seasonal; disappointed kids and the pool was one of the reasons I chose this hotel. Also pretty far from a train station but we had our car so it wasn't inconvenient for us.
Nice place to spend overnight
Breakfast and Dinner buffet are good. Onsen is slightly above average, a little bit too far from major attraction, they should have a free shuttle to the city at least once a day, it is about an hour away from the Nikko Station. Nice place to spend overnight then move next day close to the city. Need more English sign, tourist info brochure and English speaking staff.
Nice onsen hotel
Nice hotel. Has 2 hot spring baths; one for men and one for women, which are switched between evening and morning, so you get a chance to try both. The baths on the 1F were much nicer than the basement ones. Had the buffet dinner. Good quality, and lots of choices of food available for all diets. Staff were great, and many tried in English. Good job all round.
Great experience!
All meals were fantastic; well run operation! Front desk arranged for us to have the passports and wallets, that we forgot in our previous hotel, shipped to our next hotel. It took a lot of work, and the young lady worked diligently checking with both hotels. We received the items, with ALL of the cash! Only in Japan!
Decent Stay
The hotel was nice at first, however the private Onsen was booked solid even though we checked in at 3pm. They made the beds for us when we went to dinner which was nice. Certainly enjoyed the room as you could open the window and listen to the waterfall out side. The dinner service was above average, but breakfast was so-so. You have to pay the Onsen fee whether not you use it and the vallet was strange on the way out. Some people got their cars brought to the front of the hotel and others had to take a shuttle a little ways down the road.
Room with beautiful mountain view.
Hotel conveniently near the bus stop, no problem finding the hotel. I was given a Japanese room with facing the beautiful mountain. Room was comfortably clean & spacious. Not all staffs were fluent with English but were very helpful to provide advice on the nearby attraction. The buffer spread was nicely catered for all including young children.
Nice break at a quality Onsen.
Great break from Tokyo and close to Nikko. Onsen was very good - clean and comfortable. The food was good and abundant. The buffet had plenty of choice. Not much to do at night but very relaxing. We had a traditional Japanese room, which I would recommend.
Our stay at Kinugawa Onsen Hotel
The food was excellent! A lot to choose from. The bath was clean and great. Wish there are something to do around the hotel like trails.
Very nice onsen
This is a very nice hotel with spacious rooms and a very nice facility. One of the outside pools was not entirely private and since I could see vehicles passing on the road above. Presumably the passengers could see me. More disconcerting was the residence and hotel with windows facing the outdoor pool who could also presumable see into the pool area. Apart from that (and the water described below) this was a wonderful experience.
If you're not from Japan, forget it
Checking in was horrible. The overall idea first looks nice. The hostess ( in kimono ) first starts explaining what is what. SHE can speak almost NO English and my Japanese is very limited and she knows it. Nevertheless she whips through her spiel knowing full well we can't follow her. (SHE just wants to get it over with and not very politely either, but knowing we were foreign she could care less) if we were Japanese I'm sure she would have been a whole lot more polite. Dinner. ..the spread looks WOW but when you taste the sashimi, sushi, shrimp tempura, & meats it's LOW budget and tastes really bland. The desserts were good. Facilities including room were clean and comfortable. But for the price, you could get a lot more elsewhere. This place has the name, but I'll bet very few returning guests (including Japanese)
Very well maintained onsen hotel
Refurbished and well designed rooms. Location not the most convenient but the rooms offers a nice view. Great private hotsprings baths. Breakfast and dinner was buffet but of great quality.
Die hatten was. Nein.
We stayed overnight and we were impressed at the variety of food that they served at the buffet for dinner and breakfast. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. The public bathrooms were spacious and they had a sauna too. The air vent in the bath needs to be cleaned though. Other than that, we were impressed and we’d definitely want to stay again. Thank you!
Godt ophold
Rigtigt godt ophold.
Kinugawa Onsen Hotel | Home in Nikko | Travala.com
Dated but friendly
Most things were good but considering we had a Western room, so many signs in the room were in Japanese only. All the Onsen , shops in the hotel and even outside the hotel especially a Tuesday were closed. There was no where to even buy a glass of water from 9am till 2pm. We couldn’t even book a family Onsen. Unfortunately the food and entertainment was the same when we were there for 3 nights in a row. The pillows were the worst I have ever slept on. The room were very clean but dated. Wifi was good. Staff were good.
