We had an amazing stay! The grounds are gorgeous, the food divine! We had a drink in the bar and Glenn was phenomenal! An instant friend! Give him a visit! Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Gorgeous castle. We stayed in a beautiful, spacious carriage room. We had a lovely evening meal in Hermione's restaurant at the clubhouse followed by drinks in the Keep bar. Breakfast the next morning was so nice. Lots to do and see. We couldn't fault it.
Overall it was a nice enough stay. The food and service wasn’t the best experience. Service was quite slow, they seemed to have had some issues with their systems. The hotel is lovely and the location is great but the food and service fell short especially given the expectations you have for a place like Kilkea castle. The fine dining restaurant also wasn’t open which I wasn’t aware of when booking. Only dinner option was the golf clubhouse which had a somewhat limited menu. Would not recommend room service as the food didn’t taste the best. The food fresh from the clubhouse is much better.
We came to Kilkea to celebrate our anniversary and could not have been more pleased! From the moment we walked through the castle doors, the staff was gracious and friendly. Everyone remembered our names…so it certainly had a Cheers from Boston vibe! From the front desk, the spa, the dining, the historical grounds, and bartenders at The Keep, what more could we have asked for. We can’t wait to be back!
Lovely stay with amazing food
Amazing hotel, beautiful castle and grounds. Carriage rooms are spacious and decorated beautifully. You can hear everything from next room though. All the staff were so helpful and nice. Food at the golf club and at hotel breakfast was absolutely divine. Super tasty! Breakfast also had freshly squeezed orange juice. Definitely will be back someday to try the afternoon tea.
5 STAR
Absolutely amazing from unique feel of staying in the castle to top notch service from the staff!
Beautiful hotel set in amazing grounds. Very frosty conditions during our stay which added to the overall ambience. Staff very attentive. Food was excellent. We had a lovely dinner in the Hermione restaurant. Breakfast choice very good. Bar was very busy in the evening with just one person serving so it could have been better staffed. Open fire in lounge was a lovely touch but went out early in the evening and there was no one to relight it despite our requests. Shame as it was an extremely cold night. Overall a lovely stay.
5 star experience
Time for an upgrade
The castle and grounds were lovely. The castle rooms are getting dated. Breakfast in the castle was very sub-standard but the other restaurant on the property served a fantastic dinner.
Castle stay. Worth it.
Come on, it was stay in a castle! Loved it. Though I arrived late, I loved grabbing a drink and hanging out by the fire in the reception area and walking the grounds at night. The bed was so comfortable and waking up to the amazing breakfast did the trick of refreshing me after a long drive the day before.
Engagement stay
We stayed there for our engagement night , it was lovely and warm and calm with staff being really helpful to make sure you feel at home and on hand to give assistance if needed . Really was the best way to celebrate it .
We had such a beautiful break in this hotel!! It is so unique with so much character & charm. Breakfast in 1180 room was beautiful and Dinner in The Drawing room felt very special. Staff are so friendly and helpful, Spa and Thermal suite was amazing, Room was massive and comfortable. Highly recommended, thank you.
liked the seclusion
Very friendly staff
Lovely hotel
Kilkea castle
Beautiful location and grounds. The staff were very polite and helpful. Had Dinner and breakfast. Both had great service and food good. The Spa was extra treat but you only get 1 hour which i feel you could do with extra time. Would definitely recommend at would go back again.
The grounds is beautiful, and the room is very nice. However, the front desk is disinterested and unhelpful with any information. In both the day I checked in and the day I checked out, the front desk staff offered no help and information, and I had to return multiple times to get the basic important information about the property and my stay. I expect a lot more at the rates paid for one of the most expensive rooms on the property.
A must do, there is nothing like staying in a real castle. Food was ordinary.
The accommodation and staff are excellent, courteous, and friendly. My only dissatisfaction was the breakfast, served at the table cold, and the staff immediately replaced it with slightly warmer servings, but unfortunately, the only quality item was the fried egg, all the other ingredients were sub-standard. Not the good last memory to take away from a superb stay.
Amazing spot to visit and stay.
Castle Stay Was a Dream Come True!
What an experience! Staying in this gorgeous, ancient castle was a dream come true. Everything about it was magical! From the cozy room in the castle, delicious meal in the Hermione Cafe and drinks afterward in the beautifully decorated lounge area, our experience was unforgettable!
Beautiful property and area. Wonderful staff. Would definitely stay again.
Love, love, love! Great stay. Room was clean and comfortable. Multiple restaurants on site. Staff friendly and accommodating. Love exploring the grounds and learning history of castle. I would highly recommend.
Absolutely loved our stay here. The property and grounds were stunning. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Golf course was beautiful. Would absolutely recommend to anyone
I recently stayed at this hotel, and it was truly unforgettable! I got engaged in their beautiful rose garden, which was an absolutely magical setting. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special—so warm, welcoming, and attentive. We enjoyed a delightful lunch at the golf club, where the menu options were diverse and delicious. The dinner offerings were equally phenomenal, with every dish prepared to perfection. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a perfect getaway, whether for a special occasion or simply to relax. We can’t wait to return!
Limited food choices. Otherwise very nice
It was perfect.
This was a dream come true! I decided to wake up in a castle for my birthday and based the rest of the days itinerary on the availability which I booked just 3 months in advance. The entire staff was so friendly & helpful, especially Christian who greeted us at the door and continued to offer services of direction, help with photos and also a warm smile. We had a delicious dinner at Hermione’s(warmly greeted by Ava who also served us!)and a delicious breakfast in Restaurant 1180. It’s great to have checkout at noon so one can walk the grounds if only staying one night. There was a wedding getting ready as we drove away and I can imagine weddings there are exquisite. Although we don’t play golf, this, too, was the place to be for that. The history of the castle drew me in as well as there is ample explanation of the who, what, where and how it all began. I hope to return someday!
My daughter and I visited Castle Kilkea recently and had an absolutely magical visit. We did not have enough time to enjoy all the activities offered as our main goal have a couple of days of girl time with our favorite books in an Irish castle setting. From check in to check out we received VIP treatment from everyone. I cannot express enough how nice everyone was. We sat by the fireplace in the common room and read our books, drinks and snacks in the “The Keep” (the pub), and the Spa. The thermal spa is worth every penny! Do not skip this. Breakfast was included and very good. The buffet had good options and they also offered some prepared dishes. Both restaurants were wonderful as well. Oh! The gardens and grounds are picturesque. Walking around the estate gave a grandeur feeling that ties it all in together. Really, the whole experience was just magical. I would love to return one day.
An amazing castle full of history. The food was splendid and the atmosphere was amazing. Mine and my wife's 20th anniversary and definitely don't regret staying here.
I checked off a bucket list by stating in an amazing castle. Everything was perfect. Emma at the front desk and Emmett and Andrew at the 1180 Restaurant were great. Christian helped us as soon as we got to the property and was friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
Wife wanted to stay in a castle!
From the moment you drive onto the castle grounds you understand this is a special place. We were lucky to have blue skies for our stay, and the beauty of the castle, grounds featuring sprawling lawns, gardens and fragrant wisteria plants, all highlighted at their springtime best. Allow time to explore the grounds, as this property is full of beauty and surprise, down to the falconer on the front lawn. The staff is courteous and professional, befitting such a luxurious hotel. Our carriage house room was lovely, with a separate sitting area from the bedroom, a bathroom that was stunning with a large shower, and thoughtful touches including robes. We had a wonderful dinner at Hermione’s restaurant and enjoyed time in front of the large fireplace in the lobby. The included breakfast in the castle dining room is a great perk, and the surroundings, food choices, service, linens and china were superlative.
This property is simply stunning! We had the best stay and would return in a heartbeat. The grounds are beautiful, the property is so much fun to explore and the Carriage House rooms are beautiful. We ate at the club house restaurant and the service was top notch. I cannot recommend this place enough!
Beautiful property with highly attentive staff. Prices were good and rooms were nice. One of our rooms had a clogged drain so the shower flooded the floor. Was not corrected when mentioned to staff. Other room had no working tv and the cabinet that holds the safe, fan and bath robes was stuck closed. Other than those few things everything was perfect. The views are beautiful and walking trail near by was also nice. Highly recommended!
Definitely a castle stay, if room had mini fridge and microwave it would've been a 5
I only wish there was AC, but other than that it was simply beautiful!
Kilkea Castle was a lovely last day to our trip in Ireland.
Its history ... and its links to our family history
Beautiful!
We had a lovely stay at the Kilkea Castle. The staff was above amazing. The room was clean, spacious and fantastic. We ate at Hermione's for dinner and it was delicious! The view was beautiful and the service was so enjoyable. Definitely recommend!!
Truly a magical experience with great service. Fantastic golf course and spa, truly a relaxing gem of a stay
A must stop
What a treat! First night in Ireland and it didn’t disappoint. Beautiful spot, great staff, loved it!!!
The tennis courts were quiet and the surface was good, but buy new balls. The spa was great thank you!
Very relaxing and the service was amazing
A great experience. The grounds and rooms are well kept. The staff and management pay attention to the little details for an enjoyable visit.
very comfortable and exceptionally clean. Beautiful grounds. Would definitely recommend
Absolutely loved our stay at the Castle. The castle is beautiful and the 180 acres are immaculately kept. Breakfast is served in the gorgeous drawing room. Our room was very nice with a separate seating lounge area. The bar area was pretty and lots of fun. Highly recommend.
The room was quiet and the best bed! Best night of sleep and amazing shower. The bar makes amazing cocktails, and breakfast was the best full irish breakfast was perfect! The black pudding was so earthy, perfectly cooked. Enjoyed the gardens and history.
Christian was our first contact at Kilkea and his polite, charming help summed up our entire visit. A lovely booked to our trip to Ireland and a venue we'd be happy to recommend to our friends in the US.
Absolutely stunning castle and room. Breakfast was delicious and the property was breathtaking. Our absolute favorite stay while on vacation throughout the British Islands for 10 days.
Amazing and fabulous
What an amazing place. We stayed one night on the way to Dublin. The castle was built in 1189 and has obviously been renovated in the last few years. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful and the grounds are beautiful. We had dinner in the evening and breakfast the next morning - both very good. All in all, a wonderful experience.
It's a must do!!
I cannot say enough about our stay here. The property was beautiful, the food was wonderful (especially the breakfast!) and the staff was top notch. Everyone was helpful, friendly and so warm and inviting.
We loved every aspect of our Kilkea Castle visit. From enjoying a stroll on the grounds, to the excellent food & service and of course the amazing accommodations. Our dream is to come back!
Food was excellent. Service was great. Only thing, we thought we would be staying in the castle, but we stayed in a room off the courtyard.
This hotel was amazing. The staff was incredible and the food delightful. Wish we could have stayed longer!
We had a nice 2 night Valentines break. Quick check in. Room was medium sized clean & comfortable. Breakfast was served to order & was very tasty. We had evening meals in the golf club both nights which was very tasty & service was good, this was a short 2 minute walk from the castle.
I can’t recommend Kilkea castle enough. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one. Five stars just isn’t enough. The grounds were pristine, the food delicious and we have never experienced customer service like this. If you are ever in the area please put Kilkea Castle on your must-do list.
Excellent property, spent two days with family and enjoyed the lovely breakfasts, spa and dinners at Hermione's.
Lovely castle had a regular hotel room adjacent breakfast was great!!
Stayed in the coach house. Lovely retreat. Spa treatment was excellent. The sofa in the room was very tired and unclean, worthy of replacement. Overall a nice stay.
The stay here was really magical. Dinner. The bar and breakfast were all great. The grounds are beautiful. The staff was really nice and helpful The rooms however could have been cleaner tbh. The two sleep sofas were so stained they just needed to be thrown away. Even the carpet needed a good cleaning. Overall I really did love it
The staff made everything special. They answered all our questions and provided the best and friendliest service. We stayed in one of the lodge rooms. It was spacious and comfortable.
Overall the experience was really nice. The property was pretty & nice to walk around. The service was nice. Our room was on the small side but clean (we did have a problem with a broken shower head). The hotel is very secluded so I wouldn’t recommend if you plan to go out and explore any surrounding places.
Beautiful castle and property, would have loved to stay longer.
Amazing place to stay with wonderfully kept gardens. The bar in the castle had such a great historic feel. And the breakfast was a real treat in the dining room in the Castle.
We had a lovely stay for 2 nights. Staff were friendly and breakfast was really good. Would recommend.
All the staff were pleasant and helpful. The bartender was so kind and made us feel like friends. Food was very good. Beautiful landscaping.
We had an excellent stay. Everyone was friendly and attentive. So much ti see and enjoy. Beautiful.
Kilkea castle was a perfect place to stay after a long flight from Australia. The only regret was not staying longer.
Beautiful and charming! Loved the property and staff was fantastic. Highly recommend!
This is a must stay! Kind and helpful staff, beautiful castle, comfy beds. Bucket-list worthy!
The room was beautiful, supper was delicious and staff were friendly.
Nice property and nicely updated. The room was a "carriage room" so not in the oldest part of the castle. It was comfortable and the dinner in the golf club restaurant was good. Breakfast in the castle restaurant was excellent.
Gorgeous but Disappointing Experience
This property if absolutely gorgeous. Although our room wasn't IN the castle, it was a very nice room. There were a few disappointments. First, we had dinner at Hermione's. I'd skip it and try the pub at the end of the road that you'll pass on the way in. The staff at Hermione's was snooty and had an heir of importance that way surpassed the quality of food and experience that you get. It's a glorified golf course restaurant. The other issue is that upon check in, there was no explanation of the grounds, things to do/see, etc. It was if they couldn't get us in our room fast enough. It's a castle for heaven's sake. People who book here want a castle experience. When I asked about being able to explore the castle or grounds, I was told that I can sit in the Keep or go to the bar. Um...that's not getting any type of castle experience. I was also told to scan a QR code. I could understand if there was a line of people checking in, but it was just us. It would've been nice if the staff took some time to make us feel welcome and excited about the stay. There's a story about a monkey, that I only knew about because of a review I read on a FB site. I had to ask the staff about it. Maybe I was too excited to stay here and that's why I was disappointed. I should've just regarded it as any other hotel stay. Although the location is gorgeous, not doubt about it, our stay was less of the experience I was hoping for. It was just a pretty room that we slept in.
The property is in impeccable condition. A beautiful location. Can't wait to play the golf course. Unfortunately it was heavy rain the time we were staying. Definitely will be staying there on our return trip to Ireland.
My husband and i were excited to stay in a castle on it last night in Ireland. We had stayed for 2 weeks primarily at B&Bs with excellent service and felt the castle would be a fun experience. First off, the room was so small! Not even 12" between the bed and the wall. Somewhat shocking for the price. We heard banging on the walls, which I'm guessing was from the spa? Not sure. It finally does sound 10 pm. The bathroom shower door doesn't shut all the way. I just read other reviews on another site that had the same complaint from acustomer in August! We had so much water on the floor that we sopped up all our towels and the floor was still wet. Then, when i tried to turn water from the overhead shower to the hand nozzle, pieces from the faucet started coming off! My husband had to use his Leatherman knife to shut off the water. In the morning, i tried to lock our door and wasn't able to do so. I spoke with the staff about this and all the above issues, and the response was apathetic at best. They told me i probably wasn't locking the door properly and gave me a breakfast bag of pastries for the road. Honestly, unless you're at Kilkea to golf, don't waste your time with this place.
This property did not disappoint. I actually cried with joy when pulling up. The staff was so kind and the food was also delightful. Would highly recommend.
Always wanted to stay in a Castle, and while in Ireland, this fit the bill. I was a bit disappointed I was in a carriage room and not the castle, but still it was a beautiful setting, has a nice hotel bar, which we had lovely weather so we could sit outside. We were with friends and it was a bit quiet for us, would have liked a little music piped in the bar area didn't have to be loud but we were afraid to talk when we were there. We didn't eat there, but the dining rooms were beautiful. There is not many eating places in the town but we did find something that was good about 10 minutes from the hotel.
Can’t go wrong
Excellent service from initial emails/phone calls booking to departure. First class.
superb wedding site
A beautiful site for a wedding - place was beautiful, food was superb, floral pieces on wedding dinner table were outstanding. Just one beautiful castle with the friendliest staff going. Despite rainy day, they made everything beautiful. Would rate it an 11 on 10 scale if possible.
Kilkea Castle was incredible!
-
Absolutely beautiful property. Restaurant was nice and staff was very helpful. Loved it!
We weren’t sure what to expect, but quickly wish we would’ve booked more nights here. We loved the views, the garden area, the castle was great, beds comfortable, breakfast was good, service was excellent. The spa was a must. We will definitely book here again. Well worth the cost
I have always wanted to stay in a castle, and Kilkea did not disappoint! What a stunning place, with beautiful grounds and a well kept castle built around 1180! We did not explore the golf course or other areas, but we walked the grounds and enjoyed probably the best dinner of our trip in the 1180 Room. Our room was lovely, spacious and clean, and the staff was warm and friendly. I cannot think of a more beautiful place for a wedding, and the receptionist told me that they had 3 in the upcoming days! Honestly, this was a highlight of our trip! Highly recommend. Also, the price was actually quite reasonable compared to all the other castle possibilities I explored.
Great place to stay
Very quaint
Loved the castle and grounds. The staff were very accommodating and wonderfully nice. This was a great place to stay!
Castle fit for a Kings and Queens
Beautiful property,
Thw gift shop was mostly golf merchandise. Wanted to purchase a magnet or tshirt wwith the castle on it but there were none.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful castle with everything you need. We would return to this property. We stayed in a castle room.
Beautiful and affordable
Beautiful property and gardens. We stayed in the carriage rooms with a comfy king sized bed. The room could use a couple upgrades like screens on the windows so that you could keep them open at night without bugs. The bathroom, while large had a funny layout with your knees under the sink and no fan or counter space. Also there are definitely birds nesting in the roof which chirped for the entire night. The included breakfast was amazing and kept us full all day. Overall I would stay again but would try to be in the interior castle rooms next time.
The castle and the grounds were absolutely gorgeous. Everything was so neat and it was a relaxing place. Everyone was so friendly and willing to help. We would definitely go back.
Amazing from beginning to end. This is a very special and beautiful property!
Very happy with our stay.
Its amazing! Its a freaking castle!
I wish I could stay one more night to explore the castle more. Staff are extremely friendly and breakfast was very tasteful.

Very cool place to stay.
