Really enjoyed our 2 night stay with 5 people. Fantastic service from owners, unit was very clean and tidy, comfy beds with plenty of room for all of us. Highly recommended

Great place to stay when visiting family in Waikanae. Easy motorway access. Walking distance to the Waikanae shops and the suburban train station. Not ultra modern but everything you need and comfy beds.

Our host was charming and helpful, the room was spotless and bed very comfortable. Plenty of variety and supplies of coffee, tea, etc. Plenty of towels, face cloths and toiletries. Older motel but was very well maintained. Close to railway line but no trains between 10.30pm and 6.55am, so had a really good nights sleep. Would definitely stay again.

Nice and guiet

After a long stressful drive where I was constantly held up with roadworks and slow vehicles, I was very late and was going to miss the cut off time for the office. Upon arriving I was greeted by the most lovely lady on the front desk who reassured me it was no problem I was late. I then later checked my messages to see they had tried very hard to contact me ( I was driving so couldn’t check my phone) and had arranged for me to still access my room no matter the time. It honestly made my Day.

Very clean and plenty of amenities. Great team managing the property, incredibly helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend the property.

I was met by a very nice, helpful man in reception and enjoyed my stay in a clean, comfortable room with everything I needed. I would stay again.

A Gem in Waikanae

The new hosts were very welcoming, friendly, helpful & hospitable. Although it was something out of the 1970's the unit was very tidy & clean; & it felt like blast from the past.

This Motel is one of the Freindliness I have stayed and I spend a few Months of the year onthe Road The Office gave a warm welcome and had everything ready for me Well done guys I will be recomending to other bussinessess and Family and Freinds

Very clean hotel but dated simple room. Main problem is it very close to the train tracks and you are waken 4 x times a night by Very loud Trains. Nice staff but don’t recommend because train. Will not return

The location was great and it lived up to its name as a gateway to Kapiti. The facilites were excellent and close to an excellent pizza and pasta place. The motel was clean, warm and the bed really good to sleep in.

Our grandchildren loved the pool. We liked the old style motel with separate bedrooms and a proper kitchen.

Quite happy with basic facilities for our three night stay. SKY TV was great, but there was a noise limit so as not to disturb neighbours........hard to hear sometimes. Extremely close to all shops and restaurants/cafes in the vicinity. Even had a MOBILE BARBER in the nearby carpark. Good prices etc. Definitely would stay again.

It was the people rather than the property. They were so hospitable.

The property was immaculately clean but the bed was small and not so comfortable. The motel is dated and that is ok but block walls are cold in the winter.

When the room you booked is called an executive apartment, I was not expecting something that was last decorated in the 80's. Everything was clean, but so dated. We had just spent 3 weeks travelling the South Island and this was the dearest accommodation by $40.00 over.

Not huge but amongst the cleanest motel units we have stayed in over the past few months (we were down there to attend a sudden family funeral). Will definitely stay there again if the need arises.

Handy location. Nice and clean, good sized rooms. The only slight issue we had were neighbor units were smoking on the common deck, and we had to close windows and doors on a hot day.

Old and tired but tidy motel

An older motel which is definitely showing its age. The bathroom could do with a repaint - paint disappearing on the windowsill. The toilet also needs adjusting - water comes over the side of the bowl when it is flushed. Okay for a one night stay. A complete makeover would make the motel more appealing.

Easy to find in waikanae. Only stayed 1 night and was comfortable for what we wanted

Very friendly and welcoming staff, great location. Great place to stay with children, spacious family unit provided plenty of room for six people.

The spa was amazing the shower was so good with hard pressure the forest and bird shampoo and conditioner was awesome as we donate to forest and bird The owners were so kind and lovely

Lovely big deep bath, good sized room, coffee grinds and plunger, very clean and short stroll to supermarket, shops and restaurants

Quiet location and good facilities. Full sky channels in the room. Bed was comfortable and the unit was well equiped for the traveller. Didn’t have a chance to use the pool but it looked small but well formed.

Perfect for what we needed but Train noise was noticeable at night.

We really liked the amenities - the oven meant we were fully self catering. We found the location really close to shops, public transport and a lovely walk down the Waikanae river to the beach. Best of all was the friendly owners/staff who were welcoming, friendly and helpful.

Management were very pleasant. Clean tidy place to stay. Good parking and close to amenities.

Close enough to catch the ferry. Apart from the occasional train it was pleasantly quiet. The trains never actually bothered us. It was good to be away from busy roads. I would stay again. 😀

It is within walking distance to Mahara place Waikanae where one can find Countdown, Banks, cafe etc., and it is a short drive off the main state highway. It is close to Waikanae train station, one can hear the goods trains passing through especially at night.

Friendly staff and very clean room. A bit outdated (bathroom sink had old style hot and cold separate water faucets). Had some noisy neighbours in room above us who kept us awake part of the night, so if you travel with young children having the upper level rooms may be a bonus.

Very clean. Welcoming owners spoke to me very nicely and helpful.We decided not to take the dog in the end and they didint charge for that too.

We booked a room that sleeps 6 people, but when we went to go to bed, the fold out couch was chained and locked so wasn't accessible at all. Disappointed Considering we paid for 6

ideal spot, handy to all amenities especially all transport.

Kapiti Gateway Motel

The Motel is located across the road from the main railway, it can be quite noisey especially in the middle of the night and early morning. The room was comfortable with all kitchen amenities, one thing that was missing was air conditioning, we're thankful it wasn't overly hot during the night.

Lovely and quiet, very much enjoyed the swimming pool as it was very hot. Close to supermarket within 5 minutes walking. Was able to cook fresh food meals every night.

They were closed 5 minutes after I booked the reservation. I never got a room to stay in. I need my money returned.

was not aware that no house keeping. pool or spa was not avaliable on xmas day. was given only enough milk for one day we stayed two nights. bed very uncomftable. felt like staying in a council flat needs upgrades in the rooms very old fashioned and outdated

Managers are fantastic. Rooms are a bit dated but they are spacious, breezy, have a huge bath/shower, large bed with good linens, basic kitchenette facilities, a good sized pool and good facilities for kids. Was a bit noisy with two large families with many kids staying though so early Sunday morning hearing kids screaming wasn't good. Close to train line and road too but you get used to that as it's not continual like the children's noise. It is an excellent place for families to stay and was fine for us for the 2 nights we needed it for.

Nice place. It is in a great location, easy to find. The room were probably the cleanest I have ever stayed in. The room was showing it's age a bit, but it had been recently painted and had new looking carpets. It was very functional, and had everything needed, including stove, microwave etc. I liked the little touches like the complimentary toiletries attractively laid out on a wash cloth in the shower. The sheets on the bed were like new too. It was nice to get a little bottle of milk, and not just a few of those little milk capsule thingies. I will certainly stay here again if I ever need to stay in Waikanae again.

Whole family here for a wedding. The double bed smaller than were used to but tgats what we booked.

A great place to stay if you are using public transport. Close to the Waikanae train station and bus stops. A pleasant shopping area and some good food outlets.

Cancelled booking

I booked the motel late in the day (after 10pm) due to travel cancellation. unfortunately the motel was no longer staffed for the day, so no one available to answer my call and check me in. The next mornin, the owner of the motel called me to apologise and explain the motel had closed. She was very understanding of my travel situation and willing to reimburse the accommodation if Expedia accepted it. I spoke with Expedia (Sunny) who was also very understanding and professional. He took my details and contacted the motel owner for confirmation, and called me back within a few minutes to verify my account of things, and that Expedia would process a full refund. This came through within days. Excellent service by Expedia customer service Many thanks Pat Please note, the scoring of the facilities are not applicable

Easy location

The motel was easy to find and location was close to a supermarket and other shops and food establishments. The room and facilities were fine and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Has it all

Needed a last minute stay and this worked out well for four adults. A little expensive considering it was pretty basic. Very clean!!
