good
Very clean room, good room service. Good area, easy access to city subways, a lot restaurants around.
Staff are nice. Breakfast and dining are too expensive.
Very conveniently located in Xujiahui commercial district of Shanghai, adjacent for Metro station for Lines 1, 9 and 11, and 10 minute walking distance to Line 10 Metro station; and 15 minutes from downtown va Line 1; professional English speaking staff; excellent buffet breakfast; very reasonably priced high-end hotel. Have stayed there on all my business trips to SHA for 5 years.
Nice hotel ! Good location. They have free luggage storage
Very good.
The room not too big, but still OK. Gym a little poor. Breakfast mostly Chinese, Wester option rather poor. Good location.
This is an older hotel. The hotel hasn't been updated. I stayed in a standard room. But it's very small. Everything seems dated! The concierge was NOT helpful. I asked about the shuttle service to the airport which was recommended by the front desk. They asked me to speak to them. He brushed me off and told me that I can do it myself.
I like this hotel environment
The location is excellent: close to subway and many shopping place
Centrally located, nice facility
For a 4-5 star hotel at the center of Xujiahui, this offers a great value. The hotel staff is professional. The rooms are kept in a great condition. The breakfast is superb. My only suggestion is that the sitting area in the lobby could be expanded

Overall was good but room aircon was not switch due to some country policy which is madness as it is very hot and stufy
Nice location
The location is very good and staffs are nice
The bath room shower is not working well. The closet is very dirty.
Not enough dining choice on site. Shopping & dining near by.
The location is mostly ideal next to 4 exit of metro. Room is comfortable enough for a few days staying. Bathroom looks quite well decorated.
Good location. Old hotel but still in very good conditions. Will stay there again.
Room not so clean
Excellent services and up to date facilities. Very happy with the stay.
love the place
Location was okay but great stay
I booked this one for my transit purposes. The location wasn’t close to what I was looking for but the stay was great. I liked the room, and breakfast. I would love to stay again.
Great location, convenient for everything. Front desk could use a little more smile.
Pro - Great location, easy access to public transportation. Good restaurants all over the area. Good house keeping. Con - No hand lotion was provided. When asked, the service department told us that they only provide executive room with hand lotion. That is pretty pathetic. An excuse I have never heard in my life. In addition, the front desk staff could use a little more smile. Since this hotel was previously owned by the local government, they are not used to smile.
Cleanness
Not a very comfortable stay
The room was too warm for comfort that air-conditioning didn't seem working well. Unable to access the Wi-Fi
The room is clean and well maintained. Location is excellent because it is just above the Metro station. There are a lot of shopping malls with restaurants nearby. The only area to be improved is the housekeeping. The bathrobe was not replenished once. The different type of pillows available on the menu was not available when I requested. The housekeeping staff knocked my room at 6:30am despite "Do Not Disturbed" was activated then. Furthermore, whenever the housekeeping staff met me at corridor in the morning, they always asked whether they can clean my room which I am not comfortable with. The one annoying and no common sense practice is the change of wifi password at midnight every day! I need to call to get the password the first thing in the morning. Overall, the stay met my expectation.
Overall quite good
Nice clean rooms, service was quite efficient. Good location to central Shanghai. 1 minute walk to xu jia hui metro exit 4. Only hangup is the food. pretty bad, low quality food and overpriced. Breakfast buffet is ok nothing great. Does have toast, butter, bacon, for western options.
A very nice location for shopping and easy access to downtown Shanghai. Hotel is very affordable, it has all the amenities of more expensive hotels in Shanghai.
Nice hotel at excellent location
The location is excellent and convenient with so many restaurants. Friendly staffs say hello everyday. I swim everyday so I pay much attention to the pool. It is fairly clean although a little small. The pool opens at 6:30 in the morning and closes at 22:30. The hotel is old and the facility is not as brand new, some places do not smell good. But overall, it is a comfort place to stay.
Good and clean environment, only need to improve brekfast offerings
Excellent location in Xujiahui and professional staff
Decent enough
A bit disjointed as they undergo renovation. Newer rooms are better. The price was good to offset. But one of the better hotels if xujiahui is the area you need to be.
I can’t sleep!!!
The room is too hot!!!!! Even I already open the windows and turn on the air conditioning
I have stayed many times at Jianguo hotel for business and pleasure. Nice location close to Xujiahui shopping and commercial centers. Steps away to the subway station. Friendly staff in the hotel. One limitation is breakfast is average at best.
good for subway line 1...............................
Skip this and get the superior room instead
Standard room is poorly maintained. Air con is noisy and not cold. Room has a smell. I rebooked into superior room and the superior room is so much better.
Get the superior room instead.
I was staying in the standard room before changing to the superior room and it is so much better in terms of facility and size than the mini or standard room. Room is bigger and better maintained than the smaller ones.
Pleasant stay, really happy with this place
For mid-priced place, this was a nice surprise. Couldn't have been happier.
Don't look at the pictures. I made a big mistake I won't come back.
Very disappointed..!
Hotel needs to be upgrade. Everything is old and wrecked. I had to cancel the last two nights stay and go elsewhere. This is a two stars hotel.
Not deserve the hotel title
The receptionists English level is quite low and their attitude are totally not very welcoming. Not a bad hotel but definitely not deserve to be an over 3.5 stars hotel. Wifi was so bad and slow.
Good location, clean room, friendly staff. But the single bed is too small... twin bed would be recommended
Newly renovated hotel with updated furniture, equipment and fixture, located near one of busiest Metro Station and bus hub, excellent service and housekeeping. Overlooking one of the historic church of China, shops and restaurants are just across the street.
good location
Nice hotel in Xujiahui district
A basic and simple 3-star local hotel in Shanghai located in Xujiahui district. Close to underground train station and shopping center.
Staying in Jianguo Hotel
The staffs are nice and location is not bad. Everything was good except the bed. My room was a single-bed room, the bed was too firm or I should say the spring was not good.
very good location, good services
Great hotel
Very nice hotel, always clean and tidy. Friendly and helpful staff. Located next to a good train station for getting into the heart of Shanghai.
A pleasant surprise
Great location and facility in Shanghai. Next to all major transportation, e.g. subway, bus, etc.
Helpful staff, great location. How many beds?!
We booked for 3 adults but were given a room with twin beds (2 x single beds). Staff were very helpful when we pointed out that there weren't enough beds, and eventually swapped us to a room with a sofa bed as welt. Hotel is really well situated near the subway and the staff were very helpful - from reception to cleaning staff, they assisted us as required.
Small rooms but comfortable
Room was a squeeze , not much space in it . But comfortable
good experience , professional check in/out, will stay again
Great location
Overall satisfaction is very high and I will definitely stay in this hotel the next time Income to Shanghai for anbusiness trip. Hitel staffs are friendly and room was clean and comfortable. There are many choices for foods nearby the hotel.
Older hotel that has seen better days
I stayed in a "superior" suite. The carpeting was dirty and worn (a gray track from the door to the bathroom). The couch and chairs were tired and dirty looking. As with many older hotels in China, "smoke free" does not mean "does not smell of old cigarettes". Free newspaper? Didn't see any. Breakfast buffet is relatively uninspired but adequate. Bed was very comfortable. Checkin on the executive floor was excellent. There was a problem with a buzzing noise coming from a fusebox in the closet, which they attending to very quickly. Overall - if you can get a good rate (as in cheap) this hotel is OK. Wonderful neighborhood to be in, but there are a lot of much better alternatives. This was a last minute booking, but the quality did not match the cost.
Better value out there
Good location. Old hotel. Poor value.
Wifi in the Lobby Made My Business a Challenge
The Jianguo is a well known, older Shanghai hotel. It is in an area full of good food and shopping, and it's right next to a metro station. Lots of local business people and travelers use this hotel, and I met a good connection in the elevator. Nice tea and coffee lounge for meetings. BUT be aware that there is no wifi in the lobby unless you have a Chinese phone number. This was a significant inconvenience for this foreign business traveler; I had to go up to my floor to get WeChat and other messages.
Great Stay
Great stay. Overall room was clean and friendly staffs. The only thing was Wifi connection in the room was not that fantastic. Value for money.
Great location as its near to metro station and also shopping area. Room was small though..
This hotel is old but clean , everything is still in good condition. Having a good view out of window, of course not comparing to super 5 stars hotels near river . Price is fair. Very close to airport and just next to underground, both taxi or underground are ok. Not many places to have meal around, so better go further away to other station
It's fine if you can deal with cigarette smells
I stayed at this hotel for a week on a conference trip. It looks very nice -- the lobby and restaurants are beautiful and the rooms are beautiful. The staff is friendly, helpful, and respectful. There is enough English spoken to make things reasonably easy. However, the rooms also smell like cigarettes and chemicals. This smell was so strong that my clothes still stunk even after I washed them at home. This bothered me to some extent, but it was bearable. My only other complaint was that the bed was very hard with protruding springs. The shower was excellent, the room was otherwise fairly clean, and the hotel provides free bottled water.
WE'VE BEEN DUPED!
The hotel charged us a RMB 1,500 deposit upon arrival and the sum was immediately reflected in our credit card statement. Upon checkout, they rightly charged us for one extra breakfast but DID NOT REFUND US THE DEPOSIT until today 13 December, almost two weeks from our stay there!
Good location, clean room
The hotel is located at the CBD of Shanghai, with just accessibility just on the Exit No.2 of Xujiahui Station. Room was clean and service was pretty good. However, there was not much to eat in night expect a convenience store opposite to the hotel.
Shanghai Stay
Good location, nice view. Overall is good. They should clean the black ring under the bathroom sink. I like hotel lobby.
Fantastic stay!
Have just spent 10 days at this hotel whilst attending an event and I could not have been happier with it. Having read some of the negative reviews I was a little worried, but I could not fault anything about the hotel, staff or my room and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in staying in this area. It exceeded my expectations and I would definitely stay there again if I was in the area again.
Clean
Enjoyable stay but front counter confused over pre paid accomadation.meals expensive
Room was small. Front desk needs more smile to their customers. Room service was very nice.
Excellent hotel services , all workers are very nice and helpful, hotel location is very convenience. Will stay again.
Easy to access and locate .
Close to the metro and shopping malls . Walking distance within the shopping mall and eatery . The rooms is not sound proof .. Able to hear loud door banging closing sound especially late nights due to some inconsiderate guests.
Well known hotel, convenient location
Clean refurbished room, competent staff, convenient location.
Nice hotel in a convenient location
Communication was a minor issue with some staff members who did not speak English, but they always found someone who did within seconds. They hotel was very accommodating to our needs as our plane landed at 9am and granted an early check-in. While you can hear the activity in the hall way, the floor was quiet enough that it was not a problem. Special thanks to Coco and the one concierge (Henry?) who really made our day pleasant.
Lousy bathroom
The JIanguo Hotel Shanghai China
The staff at the hotel was very professional and very understanding!!! If you needed something, they would get it or try to get it. The people cleaning the rooms was very good, and the gym was okay.
1 night business stay
the check in process was quick and friendly. the hotel is located in the center of Xuhui district, nearby a lot of different restaurants and shops. the room was not very large since it is in the city. it is clean and well organized. i had a room next to the elevator and it was a bit noisy. other than that, didn't have anything to complain about. it was a good hotel for business stay which didn't require too much hotel time other than to sleep and shower. did not have a chance to use any other parts of the hotel.
Nice hotel, gym could be better
I stayed for 5 nights on business over a weekend. The hotel was very comfortable although the gym was a little tied, the machines has seen better days and the bikes had no resistance settings.
Nice hotel
Great location, nice hotel with many facilities. I stayed in a room with city view, which is clean, comfort but very small. I am happy to stay at Jianguo hotel. The only issue was that I chose non-smoke level, but the guests staying at the same level don't follow the rule. I even saw a cigarette residue discarded beside the elevator. I think it is the hotel's responsibility to make the non-smoke level be real non-smoke.
Great Shanghai Business Hotel
This is a very, very good business hotel with easy taxi access to nightlife and many restaurants.
Hotel for business travelers
The hotel is ideally located in Xiujiahui. The room is clean but quite dated especially the bathroom. The bed was super comfy. Front desk and concierge service was excellent. I would recommend this for business travelers and it looks popular with foreigners. Subway (line1) is conveniently a few steps from the entrance. Massage and few restaurants around the corner. A few steps from the hotel are buildings selling electronics and gadgets including Best Buy. There is also a Costa Coffee and bakery nearby. Convenience store across the street. A 15-min walk you will reach the big, modern Great Gateway Mall. Hongqiao Transport Hub - Airport and Train Station is around 45mins away by taxi due to Shanghai Traffic.
The hotel staff including reception were racially abusing to foreign guest by local language but they were not expecting some of them including me could fully understand what they were saying!!! These type of behavior is very common in local hotels no matter how many star and I would suggest the foreign guest to stay international branded hotels They also were trying to convince the foreign guest to take a unofficial taxi to the airport and telling them to pay more than twice the cost of the official rate. I told them that we need the official taxi but they also influenced the driver and taxi took a very long route to the airport and eventually we had to pay twice the normal
Cheap, nice and well located hotel.
Easy to move around as both the shopping malls with lots of restaurants and the metro train is nearby the hotel.
Not a 4 stars at all
The staff is not even saying hello. I asked for a non smoking room and I got a smoking room. The TV was not working. Technician spend 30 min at 3 people to try to fix it. After all they decided to change me room. The staff for taxi in front of the hotel is only playing with the phone, not doing the job at all. The minibar in the room is not refilled everyday but they count you the drinks 2 times. The seafood at the buffet is not so fresh. I got sick because of it. Very bad stay in this hotel.
MR.
There where some stuff missing, like skin conditioner. The room size was small but it is very affordable considering the neighborhood.
Old and small
Bed is comfort for me, I reserved a king bed room but still leave me a twin bed room; High price, may due to location; People is nice; The hotel is too old; very small bathroom;
satisfied..
very satisfied with the room...good rate..will recommend to business travellers.
Convenient for business
Convenient location for business travel. Friendly and helpful staff. For travelers who do not speak Mandarin: some had better English skills than others but all were helpful. Hotel aging but still kept up fairly well, though not everything in the room worked (heat - though not needed at the time; fridge in min-bar). Nothing to gush about but entirely adequate. Would stay again for the convenience of the location relative to where I needed to go on business. Restaurants mixed in quality.
Nice stay
Very good location near Xujiahui - one of the business centers in Shanghai.
Heart of XuJiaHui
stayed 2 nights, 2 rooms. chosen this hotel based on proximity to both subway, heart of xuhui n good review. check in was speedy, w a prearranged parcel arrived, kept n presented professionally by front desk. One of the room was smell of smoke despite a no smoking floor but hotel promptly change to upgraded floor. staffs and cleaner are friendly. will definitely stay again.
Excellent facilities, excellent location.
Being a vegetarian, could not explore restaurant for its taste and cuisine. The added and unavoidable drawback was basic need i.e. drinking water was charged very high i.e. 10 times the original cost. Secondly, unlike other hotels I have stayed till date, complementary breakfast was not there.
Nice hotel but be careful of 6th floor rooms
An overall nice hotel at a great location. The only caveat is my first room on the 6th floor had an elevator motor right below me, which was ridiculously noisy. I could look out the window and see that the floor right below me didn't have hotel rooms, but rather electrical equipment. The next morning they moved me to a very nice and quiet 12th floor room.
Good Location
Good location which is near to the subway and lots of shopping malls and restaurants. However I did not get the king size bed that I had booked and which was confirmed. This is not the first time that I did not get the type of bed I reserved and there is no explanation from the hotel. This needs improvement.
Good deal for prime location
It's a great deal compare in this prime location. Near subway and major department stores
good hotel
Stayed there for couple of days and liked the hotel. Hotel location is also good, its close to shopping center and metro.
Wonderful place, will definitely go back there age
Great location, great hotel.
Easy access to everywhere.
Right at subway exit, 24 h convenience store right across the street, restaurants around the corner. Courteous and friendly housekeepers.
Good location
Shopping centers and sightseeing within walking distance
Good location but some rooms need upgrading
Overall the stay was satisfactory except for the first night as the 4 rooms that I had booked with King Size Bed was erroneously recorded as rooms with double beds. Luckily the hotel was able to switch us to the rooms we want the next day. The double rooms that we stayed for one night looked dated and poorly maintained with water marks on the ceiling and squeeky beds. However the rooms with King size bed which we eventually stayed in looked newly refurbished and better maintained. Location wise, it is extremely convenient as it is near to metro station as well as shopping and restaurants.
Wonderful location
Easy stroll to XuJiaHui through the underground tunnel just outside the hotel. Free parking during the entire stay to accommodate our car. Great hotel amenities, great value for money.
Good location
My main purpose of the trip was to attend a concert at the Shanghai Big Stage concert hall near the stadium, so this hotel is within 10 min walking distance to the venue which was convenient. It is also located right in the middle of the shopping district of Xu Jia Hui so lots of food and shopping within walking distance. The hotel is just next to the entrance to subway line 2 which can take one to Huai Hai Road easily.
Nice hotel close to Xujiahui shopping district
Mid size room very comfortable and quiet. Friendly and helpful staff
Great stay
I've stayed here during the cold months and the heating was wonderful but this time I needed air conditioning and they do bit have it. Otherwise it is a wonderful hotel.
Jianguo Hotel Shanghai | Hotel in Shanghai | Travala.com
Very good hotel at a very reasonable price; chef prepared buffet breakfast; professional English speaking staff; 500 ft. from the huge Xujiahui shopping malls and restaurants; 500 feet from Metro Station for Lines 1, 9 and 11, and 15 minutes from downtown via Metro
