A great place to stay in Shanghai
Wonderful hotel in the price range, very good value, very helpful service people.
Pretty smooth experience :)
I don’t like smell of the room.
The hard product at the property is very good. Spacious room, well appointed furniture, beautiful lobby, in a good location, and all at a reasonable price. The service was poor. Staff appeared well intentioned but poorly trained. For example, while waiting to check-in, a staff member at the front desk told us another desk was open for check-in and asked us to leave the line to go to that desk. The other desk was not open for check-in and we had to rejoin the line. No staff members helped us with luggage when we arrived. When we left, a manager had to prompt a staff member to help us with our luggage before he did so. He was not otherwise busy. He was just staring blankly when the manager prompted him. Overall, beautiful hotel with the potential to be great. We did not have a good service experience but we hope this is something the hotel improves in the future.
Swanky
Fantastic view of Shanghai buildings and train station. Very fancy room floor to ceiling windows, power curtains, Japanese toilet seat, with wood and marble features throughout. Checked into the room and had a fruit pate waiting for me.
10/10
Staff were wonderful and so accommodating
Issue with wifi never consistent - bed sheets were smelly and unpleasant
Meh
Room was very warm. An engineer was sent up to fix and did. Staff is very kind and courteous. In Room dining was inedible.
Best hotel they give room early , left our luggage without charge for 1 week while we travel around Asia
I like the electric bidet and the powerful shower.
Breakfast Spread
Would be better if the breakfast can include avocado, grapefruit, kiwi, raspberries, blackberries, walnut and almond. Pumpkin seeds were occasionally not available.
Breakfast Selection
I would to commend Jerome Qiu at the breakfast section for attending to my request to have the kitchen prepare a bowl of oatmeal with red beans added as well as provide me with apple, orange, banana, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. It would be good if kiwi fruit, blackberries, avocado and pomengranate are available.
Not to miss!
Everything went smooth. Service was top and everyone was friendly. One of the best hotels in Shanghai for sure.
New and clean hotel with friendly staff. But the restaurant is expensive and not so tasty.
The only short coming about the stay was we booked special room view. Not sure what they actually mean by special view, the room issued to us faces the back lane. Is this the best or special view from this building?
Good breakfast , variety of products Nice toilet , shower
We loved our 3 day 2 night stay. The hotel is beautiful starting from the lobby to our room.
Fantastic hotel
Had a wonderful stay but i would say the breakfast options need to be reviewed. I stayed at comparable hotels in Beijing and Seoul - Marriott and Hilton. Their breakfast was much better. Otherwise a fantastic hotel.
Great stay - recommend for those wanting to visit Jing An and surrounding areas
Excellent Location!!
Location - 10/10 Staff - 10/10 Facilities - 10/10 Room - 10/10 Totally Recommended
Good choice
Although I normally prefer smaller hotels, as a business hotel this is very good. Nice and "fresh", sizeable rooms, good restaurants, friendly service and good location.
Salvatore
A great place, the best I have ever stayed, been to Rome, Paris, Washington DC, NYC, Chicago, and the Intercontinental was far superior, from moment of arrival and even after checking out, the staff was tremendously courteous, helpful and cheerful! Everyone made you feel at home comfortable. The hotel itself was grand, to include a grand piano in the lobby. The facility was immaculately clean, beyond expectations! Like previously mentioned the hotel had grandeur that I never seen before! There are not enough words to describe this hotel in my vocabulary! To say the least I was very impressed with the staff, and hotel, I was blessed with having the opportunity to be their guest! Should I have the opportunity to visit Shanghai, the Intercontinental Hotel will be I be staying at! Just a great place, overwhelming beauty, elegance, with great service!!!!
We always stay at this hotel in Shanghai
Hotel manager was very nice. We stayed here about 4 times a year.
COMPLETELY MISLEADING. SEE PICTURES! STAY AWAY!
THIS IS A HOTEL THAT ONCE WAS $ STAR BUT WORN OUT AND VERY OUTDATED! SEE PICTURES BELOW! I booked and prepaid this hotel on Hotels.com assuming it was a 4 star hotel and lived up to the Intercontinental hotel name for a 4 night stay from May 5th to the 9th. Upon arrival I checked in and went up to my room and it smelled of mold (which I'm allergic to) and cigarette smoke (it was supposedly a non-smoking room). In addition, all of the furniture was either broken or scratched and the wood was warped. I asked to switched rooms assuming that it would be a different experience but it was the same problem. I complained but they said that since it was late at night, nothing can be done about a possible refund until the manager was in the next morning and I can find another hotel (I was needed to be refunded so I can afford another hotel). In light of that, I stayed the night and in the morning made my way to the front desk explaining what happened and I showed that pictures as well. They apologized and just asked me to write on their stationary the reason of why I want a refund and my email address and I went ahead and did. I handed them my room key and they told me that I should be rest assured that I will get refunded for the remaining nights. I never heard back from them and then called Hotels.com to intervene and they did but were told that they hotel will NOT refund me despite my claims. THEY LIED! I was lucky that I was a HOTELS.COM gold member and they partially refunded me f
First of all , the room 2607 smell like a Ashtray !! even they bring the machine still not work it. 2nd , the Chinese restaurant on level 3 . Service so Bad . we ordered 5 ,6 dishes only come up the first 2 in 30 min and the rest need wait for almost an hour. Check in good , front door service guy very helpful.
In room dining menu was missing and after waiting for more than 30 mins and three calls it’s still not arriving. Slow check out service. Unhelpful staff sometimes
NOT ENOUGH TO BE 5 STAR HOTEL
alright, not enough to call it luxury 5 star hotel, but fair enough. perhaps the staffs at the concierge need to work on the politeness and smile more often.
Very new hotel with excellent rooms. Room amenities and layout are very comfortable.
Good service
The best service I received so far in mainland hotels. Especially the door boy Mr Alice Liu who was super helpful to help me with taxi calling remotely so that my Business meetings will be this smooth
The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and luxurious. We stayed at the club level which was an amazing deal because of the access to the club lounge.
Quality of breakfast spread can be improved
The breakfast spread - bottled juices were intermittently offered. It should be consistently offered. Oranges were also intermittently offered. They should be consistently offered. For a 5-star hotel, the breakfast fruit selection should include kiwi and strawberries for Vitamin C-rich offering instead of watermelon, melon and dragon fruit. Fruit-flavoured yoghurt is also limited to strawberry and red date. Strawberry flavour often runs out and I have to ask for them. Meanwhile, the plain and red date flavoured yoghurt are left unconsumed on the ice-platter. Please provide strawberry, blueberry, mango and other fruit flavoured yoghurt. The waffles are awful - soft and tough even when they are freshly made. I had expected a crispy texture when it is freshly made - but it was not.
The room is sizable. The lobby area is grand. Perhaps the hotel is a bit old but well maintained. The concierge was friendly and helpful. The Chinese restaurant provides good food. I stayed in the hotel for 7 days. The breakfast varieties were ok. However, they never put a stirring spoon on the cup set assuming guests do not use cream and/or sugar in coffee.
Convenience Location
It is close to the Shanghai Station making it convenience for traveling on Metro and high speed trains to other nearby cities like Suzhou. Not as much choice in restaurants compared to Xintiandi and Jing'An Temple area.
Very helpful staff!
Our short stay in Shanghai
Room is spacious, breakfast wasn’t impressive as food wasn’t refilled on a regular basis.
Room ‘s table very dirty. When went for breakfast, restaurant ‘s table also dirty even the table cloth . Service just so so , I had 2 nights room there booked through 2 agencies but they didn’t tell I need to renew the room by myself, until the next day I can’t get back the room the reception look nothing said you should renew the room, I ask why no one tell me , he smile and said I don’t know then gone >< honestly not really good feeling
Great location
Nice, comfortable & friendly hotel
The hotel was enormous - the hall is very beautiful and The room I have stayed was very good. All the details also align for this place. I really enjoyed my time thers.
We loved having a room on the Club floor--definitely recommend upgrading to that. Staff and service are excellent.
It is a very good hotel, my expectations of them always high, but I won't use Expedia to book them.
Cleanliness of the room, and friendliness of the staff.
Amazing room, service and breakfast
Simply amazing
Went for an expo, i can only say thst this level of hotel would cost at least 3 times more in any other major city
I always stay at the InterContinental Jing' an whenever I travel to Shanghai. It is not just a top class hotel.. it is also very convenient as it is within walking distance from the Shanghai Railway Station.
I booked a King room but they didn’t not have a king room for me. Had to take a twin.
Not a 5 stars IHG, worse than Holiday Inn
1, buffet breakfast is no good for a 5 stars, most of the foods are not even warm and the chefs are more enjoy of talking to fellows than making good egg omelet for me! 2, I go to the bar on ground floor in afternoon like 3pm, there are a table of guests smoking cigarette and seems like no staffs dare to stop them! What a non smoking hotel and flexibility for smokers! 3, And the most ridiculous thing happen in my room the electric plug for hair dryer was designed in a hidden place of the deep drawer and it’s loosening as well (aged)
Friendly and comfortable
Nice and comfortable in both location and services.
Upgrade to executive
The room was not ready when arrived. We requested to upgrade since our rate was higher than normal during art festival. We got executive room and it was great.
Nice room
large rooms and convenience location. But the air con not working properly, no matter what room temperature set for the room, always feel freezing
Thank you for a fantastic stay!
The service staff of the hotel are very responsive to your every need. I purposely got the club rooms because it helps that refreshments are always available for myself and my brother traveling with me. The breakfast buffet was delicious! Overall, I would go back to the Intercon Jing’An if I have another trip to Shanghai
Not the beat, but all fine..!
Money for value..! All OK..! Food and service could be better..!!
NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY
The restaurant (Buffett) was terrible The gyms so dirty The swimming pool was smelly ...
After a long flight from London we were greeted by Sara, Manish and Rulan in the Executive Lounge with genuine warmth and smiles that made us feel so special that this hotel will be our first choice whenever we are in Shanghai. Attentive pre-stay communication with Sara, warm welcome with personalised cake and champagne, upgraded accommodation on 30th floor and the consistently excellent service from the Executive Lounge team including Leon, Flora, Lynn, Fairy, Leslie, Chris contributed to us extending our stay from 2 to 5 nights. The accommodation is clean, spacious, recently refurbished and has high quality amenities. Housekeeping do an excellent job twice a day. The club lounge service is attentive without being intrusive with a good selection of drinks and food offerings. Definitely recommend the club upgrade. We would happily recommend our friends and family to stay here when they come to Shanghai. Thank you Sara, Manish and the whole team who have looked after us for the VIP treatment. The experience has exceeded our expectations. We look forward to our next stay.
Nice hotel
Nice hotel and will come back again.
Not quite 5 star.
Very modern hotel but not sure Club room is worth it. The Club Lounge is an abandoned room with less service and luxury than the main lobby. Very disappointed. Very modern and clean rooms though, clearly recently refurbished. English of the staff could be better, but then my Chinese is non existent.
Good, but issues.
This hotel was exactly what we expected from an Intercontinental; great service, spotless, stylish rooms, first class amenities and good food. There were a couple of issues with our reservation, however. First of all, our reservation indicated that there would be a double sofa bed in the room, which we needed, as we were traveling with our teenage daughter. In fact, it had two sofas, pushed together to make one long sofa that the staff made up as a twin bed. The hotel does not have sofa beds in any of the rooms. They are not available, so don't go in expecting one. Second, we had issues with the a/c in our room. In theory, each room has its own set of a/c controls that can be adjusted. However, we had two different rooms, and the a/c in both rooms stayed at a constant temperature, no matter how much we adjusted the controls. The first room was too warm and in the summer, my guess is that it would be uncomfortably warm. Staff did not seem to be able to fix this issue.
Good price, reasonably well located.
Nice hotel, reasonable price. Location is not ideal, but is still OK.
Great hotel, average WIFI
WIFI was poor..especially on the 30th floor
Overall, its a good hotel. We enjoyed our stay there, would recommend.
disappointed stay
bad check in experience my colleagues ordered a birthday cake to me but waited for 30 mins to get it. it is ridiculous
Great hotel for groups.
We were a group of 19. The hotel staff was very accommodating and made checking-in and out fairly simple. The rooms were very beautiful and luxurious. It was a very welcome site after a long journey. Food was amazing, the chef was even accommodating enough to make a special meal for one our kids. I would definitely recommend this hotel for families or large groups.
It’s a really good hotel, but I had issues with my heating that weren’t resolved.
Nice hotel close to metro 🚇
Wonderful staff, very helpful, and nice variety of breakfast. Hotel manager Tony Geerts came all the way to door to bye 👋 me. And asking whether he could get a taxi for me to the airport. Nearest Metro station is Shanghai Railway 🚃 Station. Take exit 3. lol diagonally to see the hotel when you come tomorrow the open space and cross the street using beautiful flyover.
Smoking odor. Personnel need manners.
Very nice well maintained hotel. We spent 8 days here. On the down side, personnel not very friendly nor polite. Need more training. eg, Concierge was yawning and yawning when asked to book a taxi. Bathroom smelled like someone smoked before, even though this was a non smoking room. The following day, the whole aisle had a strong chemical odor, unbearable. Probably someone smoked before. We requested to be changed to another room, which the clerk did. In my opinion, the hotel is not enforcing the non smoking rule strong enough. Finally, be aware of extremely pricey restaurants. You can eat in outside restaurants for a fraction of the cost.
Nice hotel
shanghai 6 day stay
This is a great hotel while staying in Shanghai. The location is great, with the train station, shopping, and restaurants all within walking distance. The hotel itself provides great accommodations, comfortable well appointed rooms, friendly and accommodating staff, buffet breakfast is well done, outdoor bar with happy hour, nice pool and well appointed gym. One of my favorite hotels in Shanghai for value comfort, service and overall value.
Stayed 3 nights visiting relatives and some sight seeing. Elegant spacious lobby, very comfortable room with fantastic bathroom. Close to Shanghai Railway Station and subway. One negative was that we had difficulty obtaining a taxi several times and hotel was not able to help. Taxi drivers would turn down fares because too short of a distance and/or didn't want to drive into traffic. Wish hotel had a shuttle available.
We Love Shanghai
We attended a 4 day conference/expo at this hotel and stayed 6 nights. We had two rooms for our group. We were upgraded on arrival which was a pleasant surprise. The rooms were excellent. Large, comfortable, clean and modern. Had all the bells and whistles. We had the buffet breakfast everyday which was lovely - an amazing selection for all cultures. A great hotel for our business trip. If I had to say anything negative it would be that it is slightly out of the way but transport is so cheap in Shanghai it's not really a problem. There is a fantastic health food café right next door which was a really good find. Good organic healthy salads and smoothies!
Very nice hotel and great location. The staff were helpful but they do not speak good English and sometimes this is so frustrating.
Nice hotel for business stay
Have been there for couple days for a business trip. Location is good and easy to get by taxis. The staff can also help you call a taxi. Room service is good. Room is clean and bed is very comfort. Business center staff helped me to ship a package by Shunfeng without extra charge.
Good 5* hotel for stay in Shanghai, near railwaystation and subway. Not centraly located, but it is not an issue. About 20 minutes by subway or taxi to reach all main attraction in the city.
POSSIBLY THE BEST HOTEL I'VE STAYED IN - ALL ROUND
Possibly the most amazing hotel experience of my life. I travel a lot and I'm a gold member of hotel.com Service, cleanliness, amenities, locality. It was either here or the four seasons, I’m glad I chose Intercontinental. Returning next year for 3 months - staying in the same hotel.
Very impolite and arrogant front desk staff
The check in experience was awlful. firstly there was no bell boy helping us to carry our luggage from the taxi to the front check. Secondly the front desk staff was not helpful at all - I was expecting a parcel and he said he will send the parcel to the front desk instead of directly to my room. I am a guest staying in room 587 from Apr 26 to 30. On the night of Apr 28, when I returned back to the hotel I could not use the key card to open the door, so I went to the front desk and the staff there (of the name Jessica) rudely told me that I have to pay as the hotel could not find my booking from the system. Jessica was very impolite and so arrogant making me felt very uneasy and embarrassing. She could not explain why the hotel system cannot find my booking and called the duty manager to come. Luckily I have the email of the hotel voucher from the travel agency showing the hotel reservation confirmation number and showed it to the duty manager, who then checked the computer, letting me waiting and eventually said they have something "wrong" in their system. I demanded 2 things: first an apology from Jessica and also a note from the Hotel General Manager explaining how the hotel booking system could be so messy causing such non sense to me as a hotel guest. Next day, when I met Jessica again, nothing has improved, she is still arrogant and impolite. This staff has a serious altitude problem and MUST be fixed. Up to now, I still have not received the note from the GM.
Nice for the business people
Very nice hotel to stay for specially for business people
Great hotel for the business or leisure traveller
When I first started visiting Shanghai I had some difficulty locating the perfect hotel. When I found the InterContinental Puxi I was hooked! The location, the helpful staff, spacious rooms, well-equipped gym, and fantastic breakfast options had me convinced. I do a lot of day trips to Nanjing and Suzhou for work, so proximity to the Shanghai Train Station is ideal (7 mins walking max!). A mix of local and western food options are within walking distance. I always recommend the IC to friends and colleagues. I've stayed at least 30 nights at this hotel over the past 4 years and have not been disappointed.
WONDERFUL HOTEL
FIRST OF ALL, THE PRICE IS LOWER THAN MOST OF THE FIVE STAR HOTEL, AND THE QUALITY OF THE ROOM IS ALSO BETTER THAN SOME OF FIVE STAR HOTEL, BIG, CLEAN AND COMFORT, IT JUST WONDERFUL. THE STUFF IN THIS HOTEL IS VERY NICE, KIND. I WOULD DEFITINLEY STAY IN THERE IF I COME TO SHANG HAI GAIN.
Nice hotel in Shanghai but avoid the humid season.
Nice hotel - typical huge lobby. Excellent buffet breakfast. Visited during the hot muggy season and the room itself was very humid and difficult to cool down. Funky automatic toilet with jets of water and air...
Great service, efficient rooms
- Great room, luxurious and large with lots of space. - Booking through Hotels.com still gives you access to IHG Rewards Club Platinum Benefits - Service is efficient - Reasonable price - Great location near metro and shops, and within a business district
I like the amenities of this hotel
Best of all!
The Executive rooms are in a separated building, it was the best ever InterCon experience I had. Very happy, will come back for sure next time I visit Shanghai!
Business Trip in March 15
The hotel very well situated in the heart of Shanghai very close to the Railway Station. The excellent service and the friendly hotelstaff made my stay very comfortable. Hope to have the chance to stay there next time again.
5*
It was equal staying in a western 5 star hotel, really fabulous staff were fabulous and very helpful, wished the bed could be western too, very Chinese HARD.
grand hotel
comfort stay, great choice of buffet breakfast, easy to locate in city centre
Good service, very comfortable.
Chose this hotel as it was close to family we were visiting. Very pleased with it, service good, rooms excellent with very comfortable beds. Only meals we had were breakfasts which were good, however for two of our days there was a conference and facilities were stretched. Overall experience was very good.
Very comfortable, but some tweaks would be welcome
Great facilities (restaurants, gym, pool are all terrific). More signposting would be helpful, as it's not easy to find your way around at first - particularly the gym, which cannot be accessed from the main guestroom elevators and requires passing through the lobby to reach a different elevator bank. Also, the lighting in the rooms is quite dim; not at all suitable for applying makeup, for example.
Shanghai stay, Nov. 2014
Nice and well kept hotel. Convenient to Metro. Area is OK and not a lot of shops catered to international guests. I really didn't see anything wrong with it but just felt the $200 price was high for what we got.
Room smelled a little moldy
I waited for one hour before getting checked in to my room which was fine. As a person with hospitality background, I totally understanding these situation. The front desk staff sat me in the lobby lounge and ordered me a glass of juicy. When I finally walked into my room, it really smelled like mold and I told one of the house keeper. Her response was" you are not used to the environment, I don't smell anything...."
Great Shanghai hotel
The intercontinental is a very nice, luxurious hotel. The rooms are in amazing conditions with no convenience spared. The gym had a thorough amount of options. The hotel's restaurants and food variety was not that great. That would be the only downside to this hotel.
Comforting hotel
The hotel has 2 buildings- main tower and club tower. The rooms (main tower) are much bigger than average hotel rooms - 45sqm for a superior room. bed sizes are 2*2 m for king bed, 1.3*2 m for twin bed. We got upgraded to the club tower where the rooms are even bigger (60sqm) but you have to take a short walk or take the hotel buggy to get to the building. The rooms were full of luxury amenities. Even the toilet seat was automatic with literally 'Full service' (whatever it can do for you - it does). We had an irregular issue on one of the days which the hotel management dealt with professionally. We normally took a taxi into the city where the hotel staff order it for you and direct the driver, giving you a note with the destination details in Chinese including the hotel address in Chinese (for return). most of our taxi rides cost CNY 14-25. Food-breakfast was very good with a variety of fruit, cheeses, smoked salmon, sushi, Chinese dishes, salads, pastries, omlettes... The Concierge Mr. Loki gave excellent service by email with clear instructions of the different options to get to the hotel. The hotel is in a business area. Safe area. 10 min walk can get you to some small convenience stores, restaurant and some fast food chains like KFC, McDonalds. The hotel is Located 1 km from the railway station but you need to take an overpass with stairs to get there by foot. We enjoyed the hotel very much despite the location not being central. Highly recommended.
Great Hotel let down by poor service
2 Night stay at the Intercon Puxi. I have stayed many times and it is still a great hotel for comfort. The rooms are excellent, as are the facilities. The service levels have declined dramatically. Asked for a taxi, concierge team couldn't be less interested, waited outside while they talked among themselves. I needed to ask again before they reluctantly looked to help. Overall the staff seemed surly throughout. Not welcoming for a hotel of this quality. Hotel remains a great place for comfort and location, but needs to sort out the declining service quality.
The hotel was overbooked and upon my arrival was sent to another hotel , not my choice.
Great Hotel
Good Hotel with new modern spacious rooms. Club rooms are on a separate building giving a more exclusive and personal feel.
Clean and nice hotel
Good service , good breakfast , only the swimwear pool is located not in the room building, you have to walk to the room via the reception with your wet hair :(
Good leisur and businees hotel
Nice and comfort hotel
Shanghai Heaven
This hotel is everything you expect it to be. It is ultra luxurious and caters to the high-end business traveler. Staff speaks English very well and they understand the needs of American and European travelers. Food is a bit pricey as you would expect but otherwise everything is excellent.
Shanghai Made Easy
I was their for business and needed to commute to work each day via train. I brought my wife whom had never been to China. The hotel arranged tours everyday and at night we were able to dine at wonderful restaurants. Excellent work-out facilities and spa. Conviently located and excellent service.
Intercontinental Puxi - Unbelievable Value
The Intercontinental Puxi in Shanghai is probably the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in, in just about every way possible. The hotel is new, well proportioned, and tastefully decorated. The English-speaking staff is amazingly helpful and eager to please customers, and the hotel itself is well-situated right across from the Shanghai train station. The rooms themselves are really a marvel of classy decoration and well-selected comforts, especially in the bathrooms. Everything is modern and clean without being excessive and noise was never a problem. On top of that, the value for the money at this hotel is exceptional, even for Shanghai. The only minor inconveniences I experienced were the lack of more free weights in the exercise room and the fact that breakfast is not included in the normal room price (though this is well-advertised and was not a surprise). Overall, you really can't go wrong with this hotel.
Very comfortable hotel
Very comfortable hotel with large rooms, great bathroom! Close to Shanghai Central Train station. For the rest the area is of no interest. Sometimes very difficult to get taxis at hotel.

Comfortable Stay
Convenient comfortable stay . Served my purpose well
