Very Nice
You will hear your neighbors if they raise their voice. Comfy bed. Breakfast was so-so. No air conditioning but the ceiling fan makes up for it not sure for the summers. Staff was very polite and accommodating. Good area near transportation and shopping areas. Overall, i liked my stay
Great boutique hotel in the heart of Union Square. Second time staying and will certainly do it again.
Really close to union square
Disappointing. Better is Available Close By
Drafty. Crappy baseboard heat. 100-ish year old building. Cold even with thermostats up to max. Narrow hallways, 7 foot hallway ceilings, fire exits not clearly marked out. One of two TVs quit getting cable signal first day. Worst of all is the false advertising. A week AFTER making the reservation for a room advertised as WITH INCLUDED BREAKFAST....we got an email saying they would be charging us an extra $20 PER NIGHT "amenity fee"--primarily for the supposedly included 'breakfast': a few pastries and bagels, a few pieces of fruit, tiny yoghurt cups and instant oatmeal packets. Not even a microwave. I've stayed at Budget Inns with more and better "amenities'--and they didnt charge extra for theirs. Not recommended, considering what they charge. You can do much better in the area.
Recent 2 day stay
Great bed/pillows plus great location
Quick responses for my enquires before check-in
Perfectly located near Union Square and walkable distance to popular attractions. Convenient transportation and fantastic dining options
It was the nicest one we have stayed at in San Francisco
Great property with clean rooms and friendly staff.
Very clean and comfortable room
Exceeded expectations.
Awesome staff great location clean and big rooms. My new spot to stay in SF for work.
Great location. Nice small boutique hotel - I would return.
Loved my stay here. Came here for my birthday with my boyfriend and we had an amazing time.
Great location!
The building is old, which we found charming. The service was good, helpful and professional. Perfect location if Union Square is what you want, great restaurants and shopping close by and very “walkable”. We prefer to stay in this area over any other in the city.
All was great dirime the start, the only cortísima is with the parking arrangement. I was told by the parking attendant during my arribar that the parking would be $35 since i was staying at the hotel, however when i left, i was still charged $40.
Love this boutique hotel. Probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. Breakfast was good. Location is great. Totally recommend this hotel
Overpriced, too small, bad smell in the room, dirty carpet, tiny elevator and hallways and the valet is NOT included. Galleria Park Hotel had the same price, a great lobby, spacious clean rooms, and valet parking. I will not stay at Inn at Union Square again. Thank you!
Friendly helpful staff. Good location for the center of San Francisco, convenient restaurants
Close to restaurants and parking options. We were here on Christmas Day and it worked out nicely.
Didn't have any problems with allergies like we do in many other hotels. Room was very clean, bed comfortable, and central location was ideal for walking. Staff were friendly. Would stay again.
Old, stodgy, and smelly hotel
After looking at over 50 hotels, I ended up staying at the Inn at Union Square based on the reviews. Upon walking into the hotel, we were met with a powerful stale odor that smelled like old cigarettes. This was supposed to be a non-smoking hotel; however, it seemed like they took over a building where smoking was permitted and done so heavily. Because we have insomnia, I specifically asked to be placed in a room that was away from the elevators, stairways, lobby, and street. Somehow, some way, we were placed in room that was adjacent to ALL FOUR. It was shocking. Not only that, at around 12:30 am, street construction commenced where construction workers began placing concrete. To top it all off, once we checked out and gave our valet ticket to the front desk, we waited for *40 minutes* for our car to arrive. It was in the low 50s with wind, so it was very cold, but the stench from within the hotel was so strong that we preferred to stand in the cold weather. Mind you, after asking the front desk for status twice, we found out the garage was around the corner! We could have walked to it 40 minutes prior. I don’t know if this was an inexplicable mistake or done intentionally, but from the beginning to the end, this hotel fell FAR below expectations. This is not the first time I’ve been deceived by reviews, but having paid over $300 for this one-night stay where $55 of it was for a for a valet service that wasted our time, I would never, ever stay at this hotel again.
A day and night in The City
Great location. Friendly staff. Only stayed one night but everything I wanted to do was close, the room was clean and in good condition. Highly recommend
Decent
The room was fine but looked nicer on line. The bed was comfortable but the pillows weren’t very comfortable.
Good stay close to union square and parking
No Parking close by. We did not stay in the place but charged
The location is superb! Really close to Union Square (less than a minute's walk) but much quieter. The bed was the comfiest hotel bed I think I've ever slept in! Room 501 is our recommendation- worth the extra over a standard room. It was so quiet and spacious, for a San Francisco hotel. I've read reviews where people complained about the breakfast, but seriously it was fine. Choice of pastries, fruit, coffee, tea and juice- enough to start you off for the day. If people dont like it they have the choice to go out and buy it, but we thought it was perfectly sufficient. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, every one. We would DEFINITELY recommend this hotel to anyone.
Ok for the price, not fantastic
Superior king bed is pretty uncomfortable, super fluffy, pillow is old and doesn’t offer support to your neck. There is no AC, only heater. The bathroom is good and the decoration is beautiful. Breakfast is standard, with no hot servings (like scrambled eggs)
This property was excelent! Great for walking to hop on hop off bus. Union square is steps from this hotel. Would recommend Great hotel.
Great location at Union Square. Walking distance to everything you would want to see. Breakfast is very light, your usually hotel chain breakfast. My biggest issue is that housekeeping started cleaning the room next to mine at 8:30 then moved to the room above mine, They were speaking VERY loudly, slamming doors, calling to each other down the hallway, hitting the walls while they vacuumed, etc. Checkout isn't until 11, I had a late night and wasn't thrilled to be woken up so early and with so much noise.
I had a great stay fir two night. Union Square and the theater district. Very clean, quiet, perfect for my stay
I like how the area accessible to a lot of places esp convent stores, pharmacies and shopping. The staff were very nice and accomodating
Perfect small hotel. Updated, large rooms, pleasant staff. Wonderful location very close to Union Square.
Great location. Easy to go to any restaurant and shops. The room was very comfortable and the staff very friendly!
Very clean and nice hotel … small only 30 rooms but very nice rooms and location is perfect for high end shopping easy access to all the fun spots !! Highly recommend
Excellent experience.
Bien
.
My wife and I enjoyed a very nice 3-night stay at this funky little boutique hotel..... which is located in a perfect urban area for walking & massive public transit, and is staffed by some really nice and competent people (like Jakara Penn receptionist)
One of the reasons we chose this property was to have a place with breakfast included. Unfortunately the breakfast did not open until 8am. This was a bit late for days we were on the road early. It was an “coffee service”, so only included a light breakfast. The biggest frustration for us was that the filtered water station was broken for 3/4 of our trip. As for sound, luckily we had a room at the back of the building. The rooms at the front (including the breakfast area) were very loud with the hotel worker strike (mega phones and drumming at 3am). It was mostly what we expected for the ratings and the price, but the food and water situation was a bit sub-par.
Great Place!
Overall or stay was just good. The room was smaller then expected. Online pictures made it seem much bigger. Breakfast was a small let down a few muffins and oatmeal. The bed was super comfortable, room was clean. We did have 2 pigeons directly outside our window, the noise wasn't to terrible.
The location was convenient however the city is homeless druid induced overload. No A/C in the rooms was very disappointing and breakfast area was essentially grab and take back to your room.
Nice little boutique hotel with renovated rooms. No Air Conditioning:(
Ridiculous fees, be aware
The room was fine, but charging an additional fee of $20 as a resort fee is outrageous. There is no pool. No gym. It was explained to me afterwards it was for the room safe and the WIFI.i have never stayed in a hotel that charges for the safe. I do not appreciate these fees, especially when it is for things that are always standard. I can’t recommend the hotel because of these fees
Small but nice themed hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Great location, quaint hotel.
One night stay to catch a show. Very close to everything , very convenient. Room was small but quaint and comfortable. Nice bed. No view (just a wall), and no AC, just a ceiling fan. That’s the only reason for 4 stars on comfort. Otherwise great hotel.
Nice boutique hotel well situated, clean and decent amenities Fire alarm at 6 am caused hotel evacuation and did not see any employee around for guidance
Breakfast area needs updating on web site. Very central snd great staff
Fantastic stay!
The hotel itself was unique so quaint and old worldly and took us back to the world of old San Francisco. The hotel staff were so polite and helpful it was just lovely thank you
Unique boutique hotel at Union Square. Staff were so helpful recommending places to eat. Will stay there again if I ever go back to San Francisco!
Excellent and will come back.
It was an older building which I loved! The accommodations were so very comfortable, clean and quaint! My only complaint was there wasn’t air conditioning and it got warm in the building with the windows closed. We did open them when we were in the room and the breeze cooled things off. It was a very nice stay! The staff was very friendly, warm and welcoming and they did offer to bring us a fan! We loved the stay and would stay again. It was within walking distance of so many things and the public transit system including the cute little cable cars!
Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. An historic, charming hotel which is kept very clean. Breakfast served on second floor. Cars can be parked by Valet off-site. Front desk clerk especially helpful!!
Great location and room
Right in the middle of everything! Easy to get to and from the airport and train station, which is a main station for transfers and beyond SF. Easy to see the cable cars, take a quick ride to the wharf or find so many food options. Room was great, bathroom was huge. Only issue: the breakfast is very basic, just coffee, a few small pastries, some fruit and yogurt.
Quaint.
Hidden gem
Wonderful older but updated hotel - super quiet and comfortable and the staff could not have been more accommodating - wonderful location - will absolutely stay there again !
The location of the hotel was extremely convenient with multiple public. Transportation stops within a block distance. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and clean, and while the room did not have central air conditioning, with the window open, the cool air outside cooled the room down. The only downfall was the continental breakfast. While we did not expect a lavish breakfast feast, all three days the options were the same: bagels, yogurt, fruits, and coffee and tea.
Creaking Floor but Clean Room
Flooring creaked in multiple footsteps. Seemed to be uneven. Good breakfast, Clean and modern updated room. Excellent location in Union Square.
Good comfortable stay in an upscale shopping district around Union Square. Parking in garages near hotel was expensive
This is a very nice small hotel in a convenient area. Was great to explore from.
Very quiet and in the centre of everything. No actual AC but rooms were updated and comfortable. There is a ceiling fan and there is a portable AC just a tad loud ;) the nights were chilly and sleeps were still very comfortable. Staff are friendly and accommodating.
Gorgeous, spacious room. Clean and well designed. Staff was super courteous.
We enjoyed our stay at Inn at Union Square. Highly recommendation for senior couples traveling to San Fran. It has a boutique feel. Staff very nice.
Cute little boutique hotel. Clean well kept room with modern bathroom and very comfortable bedding. No AC in the room but had a nicer than consumer grade 3 speed ceiling fan that worked out well enough. Additional $20 per day resort fee not included in the upfront price for amenities that amounted to access to a purified water machine and a 8-10am continental breakfast of apples, bananas, yogurt, mini pastries and bagels but offering no cereal, eggs or bacon.
Asked for a wake-up call and they messed it up. Apparantly staff noted wrong room number. They did waive the $20 “amenity fee” which was not clearly described when booking. Why can’t hotels simply charge what you see when you book? Why is there always extra fees? No HVAC in the room - but that’s probably my fault for not checking - didn’t really need it since SF is cold at night. Beautiful room, they did upgrade me for free which was very nice. So a few goods and few not so goods. I would probably stay there since it is so well located.
Our flight got cancelled and they would not refund our money. Very rude when they spoke with us. We had been through a lot . Got stuck over night somewhere else, missed our San Francisco tours and then they were rude on top of that and also not refund our money.
I have been staying here for the last year and a half. I feel very safe. Uts clean. Quite and staff are very helpful.
The property is clean and the Front Staff cordial. The passageways are extremely narrow. Limited breakfast option (no protein outside of yogurt) and there ris an additional charge for using the water filter and breakfast (even if it isn't used).
We had a quiet room that was very comfortable. The staff was young, affable and eager to help. The only quibble is that the breakfast was light on selection, the soda machine dispensed warm beverages and the ice was on a different floor. Small complaints to be sure.
overall great place, clean, quiet and felt treated with great customer service
Overall a Gem
My visit to the Inn at Union Square was pleasant. I stayed for 5 days and 4 nights. Carlos was my initial contact but I didn’t see him after the first night. The other representatives were nice and cordial except one who barely spoke. I was celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary and had a suite. Most hotels would upgrade you to a suite or provide an additional amenity or complementary service just for the occasion it this didn’t happen here. This was quite shocking and disappointing. We had a wonderful front view of the Main Street and loved the quietness and quaint atmosphere of the hotel. We knew this was a boutique hotel so the petite surrounding of the rooms was not surprising, it was actually perfect for a couple. Bed was super comfy! We ate breakfast at other locations due to the limited options available. Parking around the corner was not bad at $35/day which was the cheapest around. Our stay was pleasant, enjoyable and we had turnover service everyday. Gave 4 stars due to the lack of customer service from one of the representatives and the menial breakfast and location that only can hold 2/3 people.
A Gem
Quaint clean centrally located boutique gem in Union Square
Smaller Inn atmosphere, very clean room, close to the mall, a bunch of restaurants and the teolley
It is a lovely boutique hotel. The room was larger than it appeared in photos. Overall we had a lovely stay and would recommend it. Ir was wonderful for getting on transportation and for walking to food and shoppi g options. Great location! The only thing I would recommend would be to put ac units in the rooms.
Great staff and location excellent, although deposit of $200 which is the contribution to a continental breakfast which I believe is too high for the offering . Unfortunately 2 of the 4 days couldn’t have Orange juice as the container was all blocked up.
Excellent location, great restaurants and transportation nearby
Friendly staff
Really great room. Very clean and tidy and nice design and amenities. Staff was very friendly. Parking is not provided (this didn’t surprise me as this hotel is more of a boutique hotel in the heart of San Francisco) but I did have to pay $85 to park my car for two nights. There are other options around so you may want to plan ahead.
The room was very clean and inviting. It felt spacious with a queen bed, two chairs and nice bathroom.
Great location, friendly staff, nice room, and great value. So much more affordable than other hotels in the same area. Would definitely stay again when I’m San Francisco.
Loved the small cozy setup.
I stayed at this facility many times, and they’ve done away with all the nice little things that made it special. It’s like the new owners zeroed in on the elements of a stay here that attracted interesting world travelers, and decided that they were going to save $15, so they did.
Nicely refurbished historic hotel
Older hotel that has been beautifully renovated. Looks are deceiving from the outside, and there is not much of a lobby. Continental breakfast served on the second floor. Need was super comfortable!
I enjoyed my stay. Close to alot of stuff. Staff were great and helpful. Would recommend. Only disadvantage was the room seemed to hot.
Had a great stay, a big thank you to the front of house staff especially Carlos
Was very pleasantly surprised with our stay. The room was updated and clean. The price was great and the area was perfect for getting around town!
Room was nice clean comfortable bed bathroom and shower great, the pictures online of the breakfast area are deceptive to say the least breakfast area could hold 4 people at best $200.00 security fee they tell you will go back onto your card ,But when you check out you are told $140.00 resort fee will be deducted from your money when asked what resort fee covered ( Breakfast) was mentioned so much for free breakfast and the breakfast is continental nothing hot here .All in all room was great OTHER AMENITIES NOT SO GREAT.
Advertised breakfast was bagel and cream cheese, 7eleven type of pastry and couple of fruits served in some seating area with no tables so you eat on your lab. So no, I can’t consider this breakfast. No amenities like car parking/valet, gym, pool, common areas. Bed was supposed to be Queen but was smaller. All rooms have wall a front of the window. So no any kind of view. I’m just taking street or backyard, but no, just a wall. May as well remove the windows because no point of having it. Found bunch of hair in the shower, didn’t even complained, what’s the point. By then couldn’t wait till the morning to just leave. So do not stay here !
We really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and all we needed for our stay as we were on the go each day. Front desk staff very helpful. The location was great. Located half a block from Union Square and Powell Street cable car. Chinatown 15 min walk. We went to a couple of baseball games and walked to the stadium (30 minutes). Continental breakfast was nice bonus. We would definitely stay there again.
Charming hotel with great staff, room was well laid out. Surprisingly quiet for being downtown
Comfortable rooms
Nice sized comfortable room and good bathroom amenities. Self service continental breakfast that you take to your room with the tray provided in room. Great location to walk around Union Square and beyond or catch the cable cars.
Such a cute hotel! The room was clean and the staff were very friendly. The only thing that I would tweak is the continental breakfast - it was a bit weak. But there are amazing breakfast places close to the hotel.
Service was prompt & accommodating to all requests. Always very friendly & appreciate the 24 hour receptionist at the door. My suggestions or improvement: - Provide Breakfast trays, compostable utensils, better food variety. Breads, oranges and Dannon yogurt are limited choices (maybe trade some oatmeal pkts for less variety of breads). - Dump the plastic soaps and shampoos. Provide soap, shampoo and conditioner bars wrapped in paper packaging.
There is no fridge or microwave so be aware of that, however, the place was super quiet, remodel and very clean. This place its in downtown, so no parking but there is a garage near by with a discount for hotel guests. If you're looking for a budget hotel this is a great option. I would stay there again.
The staff were so pleasant and helpful. It was our first time in San Francisco and the front desk people were so kind and always gave us a pleasant send off and warm welcome. The room was clean and SO quiet. I would not know u were in a major city. We would happily stay here again.
Really enjoyed our stay, the rooms were clean and staff was nice. The breakfast was very light with plain bagels, yogurt, and small pastries. BUT the $20 per day fee is on top of the cost we paid for booking, so transparency would have been nice
The staff was incredibly helpful.

Everyone was very helpful. Great check in. Clean and updated rooms.
