It’s a very nice place, very clean and staff was friendly and made us feel comfortable! It’s very nice if you’re looking for a place to stay for a concert at the bill graham would definitely recommend this very close and would just walk over. 10/10
The hotel is very charming and the location is amazing.
Daniel the concierge was really great to Monica and I on our special day getting married in SF City Hall. He answered all of our questions and gave us great suggestions. The room was overall clean and maintained. The whole area looks decorated and well taken care of. The only thing I will say was the room was small, but I’m sure anyone would agree a clean room > dirty room regardless of size, any day. Anyway we will definitely be coming back to the Inn at the Opera in the future. Thank you for the stay and keep it clean!

Wonderful hotel
Clean and comfortable room. Excellent service. Great location.
Walking distance from Ward Memoral opera house!
Great place for a weekend stay! Love the water dispenser on the first floor, perfect to fill up your water bottle on the way out
Front desk staff and housekeeping were very friendly and helpful. Beautiful suite and lobby.
Extremely helpful & friendly staff.
The room, although nice and well kept, didn’t have air conditioning. The homeless are crawling all over the neighborhood. Stepped over human waste and bloody paper towels on the sidewalk outside the hotel entrance.
The room was very small. Too small for 2 people. The door to the room was not far from touching the bed. The carpet in the room was crunchy. I could hear traffic noise and people talking normally in the next room. The only window looked out onto the inside fire escape. I was so uncomfortable I checked out a day early and lost my money.
Adorable hotel
I had a wonderful stay at Inn at the Opera! All of the staff was warm and welcoming. In particular, when I had some difficulty getting a ride to the airport, Zack from the front desk went above and beyond to help me get to the airport on time. I loved the water bottle filling station and having the kitchenette in my room. The decor throughout was lovely and it was convenient for me to walk to many destinations. I would definitely stay again!
Quaint and ideal location.
We stayed in a suite. Two bathrooms was a surprise that we took advantage of. Loved the decor, VERY friendly and helpful staff. Close to all things civic center talked and Hayes park shops and restaurants all within walking distance. Felt safe walking around and parked my truck in the detached structure without incident. Definitely would come back.
Always safe/convenient for opera trips.
San Francisco get away
Love staying here when we visit San Francisco! This hotel is a gem and is a very short walk to the theaters on Market Street. It's also in a nice neighborhood with many dining options.
Great location for the SF Opera!
The hotel is close to Hayes street which is a lively area full of restaurants. It is also perfect to go to the opera or the Davies concert hall - 5 min walking distance. There is a lot of attention to details in the hotel.
Nice room and mostly hapoy except for non-existent housekeeping. Eaxh day there was a slip in the room stating that 'all planned housekeeping had been undertaken' but no idea what they'd done. What they had NOT done included cleaning bathroom, cleaning toilet, changing sheets, emptying bins - most of which is basic stuff we expected to be done. No tip left for housekeeping as we didn't feel they'd done anything. Front desk staff were really helpful and if housekeeping actually did something the review would be really positive.
We had a wonderful stay at Inn At The Opera. Our room was comfortable and well appointed with great furniture. The kitchenette was equipped with just the right amount of items for dining in. The Inn staff is very friendly and helpful. They always greeted us with a smile.
The wifi login process was a little finicky (Accept button unclickable the first time I tried on my laptop, but worked after I started over; on my iPhone, I just kept getting an Oops message the first day). The room was very compact, which may not be for everyone, but it was very cozy and nicely appointed. I really liked it and would absolutely stay here again.
Excellent!
Beautiful hotel, great area, super helpful staff. Paris was especially impressive!
We go to the San Francisco Ballet and the Inn is the perfect spot to spend the night while going to the ballet and eating establishments close by.
Nice stay
Friendly staff and comfortable accommodations.
I would definitely stay there again!
I had the best time staying here! The staff is kind - particularly Elizabeth. The inn itself is nostalgic for a time I wasn’t born into, making it a wonder to look at. It is conveniently located for walking and MUNI purposes. I absolutely plan on returning!
Walking distance to philharmonic. Staff were extremely helpful.
The best way I can describe this hotel is overpriced. The location is probably the only attribute to recommend the property . The facilities are not up to the standard of other properties in a similar price range. For example the elevator had issues on both my stays. It is unreliable: As is the internet. The staff are only moderately helpful. I travel as much as to 50,000 miles per year. I have used this hotel twice. I won’t use it again. It is low value for money.
I didn’t even stay there, reserve there or been in the area and they sent me review requests at least five times along with lots of other spam emails. They kept asking for my review so here it is.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Loved the newly decorated room and common areas.
No air conditioning and heat was on. Too hot to sleep in November.
Well renovated, affordable luxury
Cute and clean
This was such a cute place! Recently renovated, but they kept the décor to match the style of the building. Super clean, friendly staff. The offsite parking was convenient and felt safe (parking garage on the other side of the block). Our car didn't get broken into. Cute restaurants and shops to walk to on Hayes.
Terrific location for going to events in and around City Hall! The halls are a little bit shabby but the room itself was very clean and well appointed, and quiet. Nice tea and coffee service for the morning.
Great spot
It stretched our budget a little, and the bed was a little harder than I prefer...but overall this place was great. The staff were all amazing, especially the woman working some of the evenings who hooked us up with cookies and hot water for tea after they'd closed the hot drink station in the lobby. We had a smaller room and the building was a little older, but I kinda liked the charm that came with its age...and it looked like they updated/renovated a lot of it bc the room and bathroom were pretty modern. Also, we were really close to bus and train stops, which was super helpful...and we LOVED how many delicious vegan spots were in the surrounding blocks. We'll stay here again when we come back to SF.
Great hotel in a great location! I loved it
Enjoyed our stay. They advertise a restaurant and bar. They do not have???? It was clean, but had to ask to get our room clean.
The property itself was fantastic! However, the information on Travelocity is incorrect, which resulted in $200 of extra parking charges and breakfast was not included (another $100 spent at local breakfast establishments). This is not the fault of the property, but of Travelocity's incorrect records. Had they been correct, I'd have selected a different hotel location for my stay.
The Inn is across trom the San Francisco Opera and close to the Symphony hall. Convenient. Very old building upgraded somewhat. No hard pillows. Repainted with sticky touch. ELEVATOR BROKE and we were on floor 7. There is no service elevator so not for physically impaired. No breakfast or bar any longer. We were given a list of restaurants for breakfast and other meals and a map. Staff was great and tried to assist us within limits. Room had microwave and refrigerator. No AC but ceiling fan in bedroom, not sitting room and hallways are overheated.
I like that we have a kitchenette. And the second bed/sofa bed has a french door for privacy. Would definitely come back and recommend to friends.
IT WAS SO GREAT!!! the rooms are amazing. Everything was clean and like new. I really loved the room it was like a mini apartment 😍 also Mari from front desk was amazing. She was super helpful and accommodating.
Fun little hotel with a friendly staff. Stayed for 5 nights and walked most of SF straight from the front door. Ocean beach is only a 45 minute walk or 15 minute car ride away.
Great property, clean and friendly staff and close to some nice places to dine. Would highly recommend!
Recommend!
Very happy with our stay. Great location, clean, friendly, safe. The room was small but sweet with everything we needed, including a fridge, microwave, dishes, sink, recycling bin. They had filtered water available. We would stay here again.
Old design structure with a new look gives this hotel a unique charm. The hotel was great for the price and lobby staff was more than helpful during any interaction.
Very close to city hall. Walkable to many restaurants. Central location makes it easy to get anywhere. We had a suite and the room was great. The design was unique and made you feel like you were traveling abroad in a posh hotel. The staff was very friendly and served cookies for guests everyday. Coffee was available downstairs. Overall, great stay and would highly recommend. If you can, get the suite.
covid gravely injured san francisco
i have stayed here multiple times and it has always been wonderful. since i was used to staying here, i admit i did not check the web site to note the now lack of valet parking or a restaurant like they used to have. there is a parking garage, but it is scary, the whole point of valet parking is to stay out of such a structure when i am traveling alone. i now longer felt safe in this neighborhood after dark. when i travel, i like to enjoy the pampering of valet parking and an on-site restaurant. inn at the opera will offer you a bed, but you are on your own for anything else. sadly, this will be my last trip here. I adore san francisco, but COVID killed off so many of the unique shops and restaurants. the service levels are markedly decreased to non-existent and the prices have increased. i used to dearly love weekends in san francisco, that love is no longer reciprocated
New Favorite Hotel in San Francisco
Loved our stay at Inn at the Opera! It's a beautiful, freshly appointed and charming hotel. The location is good and we enjoyed the convenience and selection of restaurants in this Hayes Valley neighborhood. The Inn at the Opera is an easy walk to the theaters and we felt safe even walking home from the Orpheum after our show. Parking was easy and convenient literally around the corner and reasonably priced. Everyone at the hotel was very helpful and there was always someone present to answer a question. We visit San Francisco fairly frequently to go to Broadway shows, shop and of course enjoy the restaurants. We will come back to the Inn at the Opera!
The place was very nice overall. It was smaller than I expected and that elevator is horribly small and inconvenient. The staff was amazing though (particularly Mari) and I would stay again.
the building is a little old, the rooms look fine, especially the bathrooms are clean, we were staying in a 2 baths suite, and it was comfortable, they have everything you need in the suite. however, you have to pay for parking fee per day which is not included if you are using their parking structure but of course much safer than parking on the street.
met son from NY when he came for audition at the SF conservatory, location was perfect, staff was friendly and helpful, and room quiet, comfortable and clean. easy to walk or use public transportation around the city and clean and safe even after concert or late night lesson. Would definitely stay again
Cesar and co. were extremely accommodating and helpful. Inn at the opera is full of old world charm with modern conveniences. My Suite was extremely comfortable and clean. Highly recommended.
Nice and quiet. Great staff.
They are in the middle of remodeling the lobby and changing furniture in the rooms, so it isn't fair to rate them. There was street work going on outside, but again, not fair to rate them because of the city doing repairs. I like the place, I would go back.
Comfortable room, clean lobby coffee was excellent.
The hotel has a quaint charm with recently renovated rooms, by a nice little park with the City Hall, the Opera and Symphony next door. There is good access to public transportation and a visitors pass makes it an economical way to get around. Although they have a serious homeless problem I never felt nervous about walking the streets even late at night coming home from theater events.
I liked that it was cute and nicely decorated. The only thing I didn't like was that there was no AC.
WHAT A GEM!!!
We found this place last minute and it was an absolute gem!! We arrived super early and they were kind enough to store our luggage until check-in and also at check-out as our flight was late in the evening. All of the staff we encountered were super friendly. The location is just a few steps away from city transportation and a Big Bus Tours stop. If you like to walk and explore you can walk down to Chinatown from here or even walk to the wharf. Great little restaurants are close by, as well as a couple of convenience stores. We had a two bed two bath room with a kitchenette and the price was so reasonable. We will definitely be staying here again on our future trips to San Francisco.
Not Same Quality No Breakfast
There was no more of ther free breakfast No more lobby snacks like before Housekeeping was so late we came back 3:30pm room still not done No extra coffee creamer sugar we hv to still ask:(( Not same as previous accomodations:((
Queen room is very small--
Location across street from War Memorial Opera is the main reason to stay here. The Queen room is VERY small--a bed and chair. I can't imagine two people staying in this room. (They have other larger rooms which often aren't available on Hotels.com or their website). They no longer offer a free breakfast buffet or afternoon cookies or coffee/tea in the lobby. Bed is comfortable and there is a fridge and coffee maker in the room. Queen room had a nice shower.
Great little hotel in San Fran
Stayed here as part of a family stay. The room was immaculate, however, the bed a little too firm for myself, but this is a minor issue. Great transport links nearby and very happy with my stay!
Lovely, clean facility with responsive and helpful staff. Will definitely return to this property.
Great accommodations and service…
From the accommodations to service, we were pleasantly surprised and felt welcomed from the first moment we stepped into this charming, vintage hotel. The location was centrally located for sight seeing with many options for excellent dining within walking distance. Superb attention to detail and service you just won’t find at bigger, corporate hotels. The beds were a little more firm than we’re used to and the air conditioning was non-existent (we visited during a heat wave…86-90 degrees) but the windows opened up to a nice cool breeze at night and the ceiling fans worked well. Overall, we really liked this place and will be looking to book here in the future. Special thanks to concierge Mari for her excellent recommendations and positive, infectious attitude.
The room was wonderful! The staff was wonderful!! The parking was a nightmare! It’s about a 5 minute walk through homeless. And early in the morning is scary.
Great location but the room was loud and pretty grimy, the radiator was falling off and the furniture (including the bed) were very worn down. If you want anything like water etc, you’ll need to plan in advance and bring your own ad well.
Location and friendly staff
Small, comfortable hotel, close to many restaurants and other attractions. Easy access. Helpful staff.
Excellent stay, outstanding staff
We had a very pleasant stay, and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed (including some things that could easily have been refused). Very close to public transport. Would go back!
My wife and I and our three young children stayed in a suite. We had plenty of room and they accommodated us with a pack and play for our 3 month old child. The rooms were really clean and the furniture seemed new. The employees at the hotel were so friendly and helpful. In the future we will be staying here once again. Highly recommend
Wonderful vintage character mixed with modern updated feel. Great location.
Old fashion but clean!
Great place. Clean. Quiet and friendly staff.
Homeless outside
It was very clean and I loved the old fashioned elevator
Nice walk to City Hall
Charming hotel. The room was very nice with little sitting room. We made our coffee each morning. They had a little breakfast selection. Lovely classical music would be playing throughout the hotel and elevator. We parked at lot about 2 blocks away. We felt safe walking back to hotel at 11 pm. despite the unfortunate homeless. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Near good restaurants, convenient location, parking available around the corner for an extra fee, comfortable tho somewhat dated room, welcoming staff. We missed the chocolate chip cookies and continental breakfast available in the years before covid!
Great location; great complimentary breakfast; small but very comfortable rooms
Everything you need is provided in the room. It was amazing.
Close to Performing Arts Center and the Hayes District.
We have stayed at this property before. Staff is wonderful and rooms are great, just needsdkne updating but I would start again anytime.
The hotel was very nice and all of the staff are friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was nice and a great way to start your day.
People and place great. Rooms could use a bit of a decor update
Very charming place in great location, near our favorite restaurants in San Francisco
Room was great. Street noise was moderate but otherwise a great stay.
I didn’t like that when I called in and was asking if they had a room they kept saying they are all sold out even though I saw on Expedia there were rooms, we then came there after booking and stayed in the lobby for almost half hr and they didn’t believe that I paid and were asking if I really booked the room and was also charged $250 deposit because they didn’t believe me and all I needed was a room for 4 hrs
Great location.
Great location for our needs. Like that it has a buffet breakfast, although no cooked eggs, bacon or sausage. Nice that they have coffee and tea available throughout the day. Room and bathroom are ok. Sound travels from other rooms.
Wonderful hotel for dinner and ease to the opera
Nice, quaint hotel with a spectacular restaurant (Plaj)
Location - near the cultural venues including Ballet, Opera and Symphony.
I really liked the Opera style decor and the unique elevator open door. It was a very pleasant experience and the suite kitchenette was fully equipped with plates, silverware and wine glasses plus more... I was really impressed. Oh and the continental breakfast was in a very nice seating area.
Consistently a wonderful stay
The room was spacious but very noisy. Because there is no AC you need to open windows and there is a recycling place that is noisy all night. You can hear bottle noise. Breakfast was very good.
Valet, Reception desk personnel top notch! Up sell intro before checking in not appreciated! Property conditions in serious need of upgrade & serious detailed cleaning! Posted pictures not what was actually observed!😱
Location! Nice breakfasts. Great pillows. Excellent staff! And again, superb location!
This is a small “boutiquish” hotel in the SF Opera District. Great location. Many eateries and arts. Small, but clean entrance area. Restaurant/bar area nice, but only available for continental breakfast @ 7:30 AM and Scandinavian themed supper @ 6 PM. My room was adequate, but small (I booked as a single). Closet space minimal. Bathroom was great: clean with good hot water and water pressure. Room temperature varied. Floor heater provided worked well. Overall: 3.5-4.0/5.0. I would book again.
Staff were extremely nice and helfpul. Breakfast was more than adequate. Cookies were a nice touch. Very clean. Within walking distance of a lot of good restaurants. This was my second stay and I've been pleased both times. Only problem was with the shower controls -- water temperature kept changing and the volume knob fell out.
Inn at the Opera was truly a gem! My husband and I stayed for a long weekend and were very pleased with our stay.
Well-preserved, old but classy inn. No restaurant. (The Swedish one on floor 1 is a separate business. Couldn't sign meal over to my room.) Shower head was only 5 feet high, and I am six feet tall. Had to bend to wash hair. In a quiet neighborhood, with plenty of restaurants nearby. Bed and room were classy.
The building had amazing character and the location was perfect for us! Our room was very clean.
Great location, close to transit, many good restaurants, and the Hayes Valley neighborhood. Room was small, no AC. Breakfast was good.

This was my first stay at the Inn and I was delighted. The remodeling is gorgeous and classy. I had a Superior Suite with a queen bed, sofa bed in the sitting area, and two full bathrooms. The kitchenette had a microwave and refrigerator. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. I stayed three nights to see the San Francisco Ballet next door at the War Memorial Opera House - the most convenient hotel for the Opera House.
