Puzzled with this place. Very limited and expensive dinning. Felt like The Shinning because of isolation. Once you're there you're stuck there. Understaffed even though it wasn't busy. Clean..nice room, although in room fireplace inop.

Lacking in hospitality

After we walked up a hill to the Inn with our kids and all our stuff, we were told “sorry” for not picking us up and then made to wait an hour (including having to feed baby in lobby) while they tried to find our reservation (while blaming us for booking through hotels.com). Once checked in, the rest of our stay was fine. Food from the restaurant at the hotel was very average - edible but would not recommend or return.

Beautiful But Over Priced

Very misleading Thought that the hotel was near the water Pictures that were shown made you think that the hotel was near the water but it was a walk over the hill, walk to the beaches were over the hill Very secluded and very quite Hotel is centered in the middle of an old army barracks Food was very expensive and average for the price A lot of walking The ferry schedule is very limited in September unless you want to walk 15 to 20 minutes over the hill to the other Ferry stop Over priced!!

Its sad to say because this place has so much potential but clearly under staffed. They have the desk boy working 4 jobs and there isnt a lot of communication with everyone working. The facilities are so amazing just hard that they are not all free due to the price of the room. Also, the cleaning service never came to freshen our room. It just felt like we constantly were st the front desk asking for things that typically are done at a 3 star hotel.

The only thing I will say is if you have to leave early arrange transport to the ferry the night before because the front desk is not open early, And calling the number went straight to voice mail. Also, coffee in the morning was not easily accessible. Will definitely go back… and I will take extra keurig pods ☕️

The Inn itself is gorgeous on a lovely quiet island for some exploring. The rooms are large and well maintained, and the staff while inexperienced does their best to help and answer questions. Our room was ready when we got there early, and they let us check-in a few hours ahead which was greatly appreciated. The pool is nice (a little chilly) and the hot tub was boiling, and we enjoyed relaxing by the pool. The beaches are nice to visit from a short walk but don't expect sandy beaches here. We walked around the island, even outside of the homeowner's association barrier and there is a nice gift shop where you can get ice cream, popsicles and some treats for ~1 a pop. Surprisingly reasonable for this island. The main issue with the island is food as one might expect, so just keep you expectations on the lower end (unlike the higher side prices) and you won't be too disappointed. The hotel restaurant is OK - the pancakes were at least good - but the two island restaurants left a lot to be desired. Would we return? I think if you are looking for a short getaway or are willing to go to portland for food, it can make an excellent relaxing trip.

Beautiful property. My only complaint was due to travel, we had to take the 9pm ferry. There was not anyone there to greet us as it had said in email. Nothing like getting dropped off on an island in the dark with your children and luggage with no idea where to go. Luckily, we saw someone that pointed us in the right direction.

Complete relaxation

Absolutely wonderful stay! From the moment we walked into the lobby with the friendliness of Reception, during the two nights we were there and when we left. Total relaxation next to the pool and on our balcony. Very nice and clean rooms with plenty of space. The recreation room was fun, great idea. There are a couple downfalls. The Market was closed so you have to wait for the restaurant to open which isn’t convenient for a family on a budget, so plan to eat on the Mainland or pack food to bring over - there are plenty of tables in the lobby area. The bikes are not complementary which is a bummer - in my opinion the cost of the rooms should cover the use. But these factors we worked around. All in all we really enjoyed our two days and would definitely come back.

A little uneven. People were nice enough. We were there just as season was ending so this was contributing. The room was very nice except apparently not a single hypoallergenic pillow in the complex. When we asked, we were given some nonsense about it being end of season and they were out. How do have 70 rooms and only feather/down pillows? This is not exactly an unusual allergy. The restaurant was not terrific. Eat on shore and then ferry in for the evening. READ EVERYTHING ON THEIR SITE BEFORE GOING. THEY EXPLAIN NOTHING.

This is a beautiful property. The rooms are stunning, very clean and comfy beds. This is a hotel in the woods on an island.Think “Dirty Dancing” resort with families, not a romantic, quiet retreat. First off, DO NOT RESERVE IN ADVANCE. It is hardly ever full and NO fun in the rain. You will be charged in full unless you cancel 2 weeks in advance. There are two major issues: 1. There is no information provided as to how/where/hours to do things…(like eat) other than a simple map in the lobby; and 2. They play CONSTANT banging music at the pool that echoes up onto your 2nd floor balcony. It’s incessant and mind-numbing. Want to turn on the fireplace in your room that you paid extra for? Figure it out…but…it’s a trick. THEY need to turn it in for you EVERY TIME you want to use it. Or…you can take the grate off and, as the front desk told me…try to figure it out on your own. Want food? Figure it out. No answer at the front desk or “restaurant” phone line. No info/hours/transportation info (both off site) etc. There was a line at the desk to ask questions, so we decided to walk. Guess what…no signs pointing you to where to go, and in the dark it’s a challenge. There are no signs/pamphlets and limited people available to assist you. All the staff is under the age of 25. There is also a strong scent they pump throughout which gets to be a bit much after a while. They need printed info in the rooms explaining the amenities and food, signage, and turn down the music and the scent.

The location of the facility is wonderful. The island setting is beautiful, and the lack of cars makes it even better. However, the staff is mostly international students, who are outgoing and friendly but who don't seem to be well-trained. They didn't know how to answer questions or provide basic services like adding dining charges to the hotel bill or providing luggage assistance at checkout. Also, there were no housekeeping services provided during our entire stay, which meant no trash removal (even though our room had a kitchen and trash contained food items), and no replenishing of coffee, shampoo, etc. The hotel could easily be a 5 star facility if some basic services were improved.

We had a great stay at the Inn at Diamond Cove. It started off a little rough as we couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone on the day of checkin. This made our transfer to the island a bit complicated. After several attempts we finally got someone and worked everything out. We then discovered the main restaurant on the island was closed for the season so only the bar cafe was open. We learned the hotel was closing after our weekend there. The food was good but they had a hard time handling a gluten free guest. The smell in the upstairs hallway wreaked of a really strong perfume that was annoying. This is apparently pumped into the ventilation system. Otherwise we enjoyed the location, walking around the island, and the ambiance of the hotel. Would definitely come again in season, not the last weekend they’re open.

A Pleasant Stay.

Stayed there for three days. Lovely inn with a young, enthusiastic staff. Definitely a staff shortage, but that is an industry-wide problem. The inn hired college aged Eastern European personnel who were both pleasant and attentive. Limited activities at the resort and on the island, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. It gave my wife and I more time to read books and sip cocktails on the relaxing patio.

Nice, but go in with the right expectations

First of all, it wasn't clear to me when I booked that this property is located ON AN ISLAND. That completely changed the feel of our vacation. It was a unique experience and there were many nice aspects about staying on the island, but if you want to spend time in Portland, understand that you will be either paying for an expensive water taxi or tied to a ferry schedule. The hotel itself was very nice and the staff was lovely (even though I don't think we spoke to a single employee over the age of 25, which was interesting). However, the amenities are quite outdated and not what we pictured. The "fitness center" is filled with old equipment, the "arcade" has one functioning video game, the "bowling alley" is candlepin bowling where you have to set up the pins yourself, and the bike rentals are for no less than six hours at a time. Oh, and the fireplace in our room did not work. If you are aware of all this and still think it sounds like something you're interested in, you'll probably have a wonderful time. For us, while it didn't ruin our trip by any means, if we had to do it over again, we definitely would have picked a place right in Portland.

The staff is all friendly and very accommodating. We arrived late and were first greeted by the executive chef. He helped us with our luggage and asked if there was anything we needed. I had two hungry kids with me and although we had arrived well past closing time of the restaurant, he instantly offered to fire up the ovens and make us some delicious flat bread pizzas. I can’t even begin to express how grateful we were. We had the pleasure of eating at the Diamonds Edge restaurant the next night and the menu was amazing. The charcuterie board was full of delicious options and the Scallop dinner was superb. I also recommend the tuna tacos. The entire staff went above and beyond to make our stay exactly what we needed. I don't want to write a bad review. But the property advertisements are deceptive. Recently bought by a corporation, they were understaffed, the pool was very small and dirty, the facilities such as the arcade and bowling were old, had no air conditioning, and decrepit. Guests do not have access to the carts, and so if you have an older guest like ourselves, you have to request a ride every time you want to go anywhere on the island/resort. The bar closes at 9pm? We only had access to one restaurant (which was closed several days of our stay), and had to eat turkey sandwiches everyday. didn't expect to go food shopping on my vacation. While we generally had an okay time, I was unhappy to discover overcharges and duplicate charges on my account statement upon my return (there was no-one available to check us out on our departure at 8am). Some real nice people and land here, but I am not sure I would recommend with current management.

Fancy summer camp

I thought it was like a resort, but it is more like a fancy summer camp. The restaurants there don't open until Wed-Sat. Fortunately we arrived on Tuesday. But instead of giving the guests a good decent meal, the hotel charged everyone $20 each and had the hotdog and hamburger night with very limited stuff. Everyone in our family felt it was like a summer camp, and cannot believe they charged $20 for that, If it was $10 each, I would not complain. There was also some mistake about how Hotel.com says and what the hotel is. Hotel.com says we would have 3 rooms, but when we got there, there was only one bedroom and another sofa bed in the living room, Fortunately one guest could not come at the end, otherwise we could not do this! We enjoyed the island, but 3 days is enough. There restaurants are super expensive. But there was nothing else you could have, not even a grocery store. Keep all these in mind.

Even though it is only a 45 minute ferry ride from Portland, Maine, it feels like one has travelled to a remote place. Both the employees and the guests were friendly; we met several families while toasting marshmallows at the fire pit at night. Island residents (there are many privately owned homes on the island) were also friendly and helpful. The remoteness, however, comes with a cost. One must pack carefully (including food items), since there are no little shops down the street to run to. Any significant shopping requires a ferry ride.

The Inn at Diamond Cove was one of the most memorable places we have stayed. The island is truly magical, and the inn is full of history and has great amenities and an attentive staff. I would highly recommend this Inn to anyone looking for a unique, beautiful, quiet vacation spot.

I loved that we had to take a ferry to get to the island. Kids had a wonderful time there and the island is safe and beautiful. Staff is very friendly and the hotel is clean, food on the island was excellent everywhere.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Diamond Cove! The staff was attentive and pleasant. The suite was clean, roomy and comfortable. Food options on certain days are limited on the island. This was not an issue for us as we knew this ahead of time. The boat ride to and from the island is on time and pleasant. There is an employee from the hotel waiting to take you in a golf cart upon arrival and departure. This is a nice walkable island with a military history. We enjoyed walking both Portland and Diamond island very much. My husband and I chose this destination on a whim for relaxation and options for things to do. We were not disappointed. Our family will definitely be returning for a future vacation!

The hotel and the staff were wonderful…. The pool was wonderful…. The bowling alley was wonderful….. the food availability was terrible…. YOU NEED TO BRING FOOD AND COFFE…. What was available was way overpriced and not a very utilitarian selection. There are two decent restaurants on the island for dinner but they are not cheap… and not open on select days. The website is not up to date…. THERE IS NOTHING TO RENT….. kayaks, bikes, golf carts, exercise classes. So you activities are limited to the pool and bowling alley (there are other items in the Rec. room but most are broken).

We stayed at Diamond Cove Inn a few summers back and it was like we discovered a magical gem. The island is lovely, with trails to walk & bike, a game room w pool table, duck bowling, ping pong, fooseball, & a few old school arcade games (Ms PAC Man!!) —and a pool. It’s a great place to spend several days w a family and kids—even, we found, with rain! But this year the property is under new ownership and it’s a bit of a fend-for-yourself set up. The on-site restaurant that used to serve a lovely full breakfast, lunch, and dinner, is now only open for appetizer like items after 4pm. Grab and go breakfast bar is just ok. I reached out to the inn via phone and email multiple times once I booked multiple rooms for our extended family and weeks went by with no reply. I received a reply after we had already checked out of the inn. The night before check in I received an email stating that bathroom amenities were only provided for one night—at $400 plus a night? The inn is advertised as luxury—and the rooms are lovely—but no daily cleaning service, no restock of soap, shampoo, and no upkeep of the property made our stay bitter-sweet. The game room is becoming quite dilapidated and uncared for—and staff weren’t even aware of the lovely, clearly abandoned herb garden. While the staff we encountered were very friendly and accommodating as they could be, there were simply not enough of them and the management has not set them up to succeed. We were truly shocked and disappointed.
