Ok
Clean, quiet in perfect location intimate hotel. Nice and very helpful receptionists, especially young gentleman with glasses. Good quality breakfast. We would definitely stay there again.
Friendly staff
Decent stay
It is a decent hotel. I miss hotels walking you to the room and explaining things to you; as to how the A/C works, light switches and if there is a safe. Also, someone should show the breakfast room.
Great for a city break
Great room in great location, only a 15 min walk to the centre. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice.
Advertised as 4 star hotel with a bar. No bar facilities and not what I would expect of a 4 star hotel. Booked a suite which was a room with mezzanine level with a desk. Breakfast advertised as being on a terrace but in fact mezzanine above reception area. Staff were helpful and pleasant but the hotel was not staffed 24 hours. Had to ask for air con control and the room was very basic for the price charged.
Small but delightful hotel in Bologna with easy access both on foot and public transport to centre. Very comfortable rooms, good bathrooms, and attractive public areas. Very good breakfast, and very helpful staff.
The room arrangement, an upstairs and downstairs, was inconvenient, dangerous with all the glass railings and doors and not a comfortable stay. The staff was good, breakfast good.
Nice hotel, friendly staff
The hotel is in an old convent. I had a ground floor room with very high ceilings and dramatic lighting. The appeared to be a window high near the ceiling, so it could not be opened for fresh air. The room had a mini split, but it was malfunctioning and didn’t always work. A staff member checked the controls and everything was set correctly. It was a mystery. The room got quite stuffy with out the fan or AC working. The was also an on/off rather bad odor from the bathroom drains. Overall though, a very pleasant stay.
This was a very cool boutique hotel, with a very helpful and kind staff. From check-in, to local recommendations, to room and restaurant service, everything was wonderful. Our highlight of the stay was the complimentary breakfast, much detail was put into it and all of the options were very tasty.
The receptionists were very helpful. Something went wrong with the lift but when we came back all our luggages were already in our rooms. Gave us map and recommended some good restaurants. Very accommodating. Not so near from the city center but walkable.
Booked it because it advertised spa facilities but these did not exist
It was about a 20-minute walk to the center of Bologna. Breakfast was good. The room and bathroom were very spacious.
Loved that we stayed in a former convent! The hotel wasn't big but our room was. Everything was lovely and the staff was super helpful and kind.
This is a great place to explore Bologna from. In a former convent the rooms are unique. A short walk to the main square . Loved my stay and would definitely stay here again.
Never again (Suite is a scam)
I stayed there 10 days last year and planned to be back in bologna often. This is my first bad review. With metal implants in my leg, I picked the Suite because of the spa tub for pain. But it doesn’t work, the owner talked to my boyfriend and told him he should get it fixed. The cold water leaks and we had to tighten the base at the tiles to get it to stop. I took a movie, showed the front desk, no one would come check and he promised a new room the next day. They kept asking about the parking when we were in the municipal spaces. He layed on the lobby couch all night screaming. I could hear him from the room at 4 am. I asked him for a blanket and he said we had a duvet cover (which had a sheet inside it) and said turn up the heat if you’re cold. He also said to circle one choice for breakfast so I got 3 slices of old mortadella , what a change from last year. The stairs are steep with dirty carpet the entrance room is just a plastic couch so if you want anything it’s 3 flights up and down. They said yes to switching rooms twice. We packed everything and put it by the door. I returned the boy was there and said no, threatened me with charges if I kept asking bc my stupid bf smoked a cig. the maid checked the tub it was perfect (the maid is a plumber). I begged for any room without stairs and said I’ll pay for the suite np. I said talk to me, bc they kept only addressing my bf, “you don’t speak Italian”(The boy didn’t either or English!)
I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. My room was clean and very comfortable. Location is good, short walking distance to most of the main sites, restaurants and shopping.
Fine for what we needed. Well located. Very very friendly staff!!
Write up says there was a bar but it was only coffee offered Not in a great location.
Gorgeous
Gorgeous place decorated with such taste. Good in room amenities and breakfast included. Very good price and top location. Quiet side street, but with cool eating and drinking places along, and about 10 mins walk from the center. About half hour walk from train station. Lovely staff. This will be my go to place next time I visit Bologna
Cool place close to town
Lovely hotel close to the centre. Very cool history having been a convent
Although the staff might have tried the best service, the hotel is not a four-star by far. From four days we were there, 2 we had NO water and the hotel was unable to find a solution. At the end we left before we planned. The staff didn't seem to care about IT MUCH. The website announces a buffet for breakfast: we were told it wasn't offered since 2 years ago. Instead, we got a very pool quality breakfast meal on a plate and we could not ask for any extras! I will call for full repayment and compensation. Location is not great neither Don't go!
Nice stay for a night or two. Friendly staff. Easy access. Clean room. Would stay again.
a great find
Everything excellent
Very Good Time
Very nice time and quite close to all the city sights.
Good location for our visit; walkable; rooms were great no issues at all.
Location is fantastic. It is near nice restaurant and amazing attractions. The staff were wonderful and very helpful.
Cute boutique hotel.
The hotel is small. Only 10 rooms. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The building used to be a convent.
What a wonderful place to stay.....a privilege....
I chose Il Covento as it looked so interesting and was such a good price. Do not believe any of the negative reviews you may have read! It is absolutely lovely, in every sense of the word. Check in was very easy, and having taken us to our room, a glass of chilled Prosecco appeared as well. We had a Junior Suite: we didn't really use the upstairs bit, apart from admiring it, but it meant that the bedroom was very spacious. Bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was excellent. Breakfast was amazing.....I read somewhere that it was very sparse?!?!?!?! Nothing could be further from the truth. A very elegant buffet, laid out over two rooms, and we didn't need anything else until late each afternoon. The staff are absolutely delightful. Really helpful. The whole building has an amazing feel of antiquity about it, and it is very obvious that it was a convent. The breakfast room is on the first floor, and you look over the balcony to the convent ceiling, beautiful arches/blue/frescoes....... It is a good 20 minutes walk from the historical centre, but we used buses and taxis as well, if you don't feel like walking. I would unhesitatingly recommend it to anyone, but not if you want to stay in a modern box with bland wall to wall furnishings etc. Oh, there is a really good little supermarket about ten metres away......we bought milk as they didn't seem to understand that we Brits like milk in our tea! And kept it in the fridge in our room....not a problem at all.
10 min walk from the centre with all the restaurants and the 2 towers. The staff were extra helpful, all spoke English, always happy and smiling. Never went to the breakfast so can’t comment on that but it’s a buffet style I was told, served till 10 30 I believe. Room cleaned and towels replaced daily, do wish more towels were given as in August you’ll be showering a couple of times a day cos of the heat, room did have air conditioning which just about managed, tv quite far away from the bed in the Suite, the whirlpool bath was excellent. Overall a lovely hotel, no noise between rooms, make sure you don’t pull the little cord hanging in the bathrooms from next to light switch style panels, they are alarms!
The boutique hotel “Il convento dei fiori di seta” has a little historical connection to the silk manufacturing in Bologna. Staff are delightful and helpful . The deluxe double room is spacious, quiet and very comfortable. The breakfast selection was extensive and delicious. It is perfectly located near the Santo Stefano area within walking distance of Cremeria Santo Stefano which has gelato and granita using a diverse range of ingredients. Eg : peach and rosemary ; salted pistachio from the Bosforus. We will be returning to this delightful accommodation on our future trips .
A very nice place to stay if you want a nice room.
They allowed us to check in an hour earlier than advertised with no quibbles. The room is nice when you walk in and there were no particular issues beyond a wobbly toilet seat and the wifi kept disconnecting. The hotel is about fifteen minutes walk from the very centre of Bologna. Breakfast in the morning had a good range of items in a buffet. Unlike at check in, the staff were a bit stand-offish at breakfast. They allowed us to leave our bags for an hour after check in with no charge. Overall I would stay again if I was travelling to Bologna but I wouldn't travel there just to stay in the hotel.
Unusual small Hotel
On the edge of the historic centre of Bologna and near a large park (Giardini Marguerita). The rooms are elegantly furnished, luxurious and include a coffee maker. As it says in the title, it is a converted convent. Breakfast is served in an upstairs gallery area. The ceiling of the entrance hall is beautiful.
Clean hotel with friendly staff
Great location for a lovely walk into the centre of the town. Some great little bars and restaurants nearby. Hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly but needs updating a little. The beds were very uncomfortable and take your own hairdryer. The one provided was pretty useless and for the money, would have expected more. That said, the bathroom was lovely and shower excellent. Hot water at all times of the day. I would stay here again but with some small improvements, could be a great little place.
quiet oasis on edge of old city
This is a comfortable hotel in a street parallel to the inner ring road of the city, and therefore easy to access from the autostrada, recommended satnav ! There is onstreet parking 50 yards away at the end of the street, free on Sunday, 2 euros 80 per hour 9 to 6, red machine accepts card payment. The hotel reception area is the only evidence of its previous life, the breakfast eaten on the small mezzanine watched by a fresco Christ. Everything is in small supply, tiny cakes and croissants, fresh fruit, yoghurt, bacon and egg, and cold meat and cheese, toast, all buffet style, coffee comes fresh from the downstairs bar cubicle. Rooms were of a high spec, power shower and all mod cons. But the much vaunted clooney coffee maker did not work.Only stayed the night so did not bother the very pleasant staff.
This hotel is delightful. The decor has a woman's touch with the consistent use of the silk flower theme. The renovation of this former convent is stylish and functional. The staff is delightful and helpful. The neighborhood is a little out of the way, but that meant the it was also quiet at night. I would definitely stay here again!
Room was lovely, clean and spacious. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was delicious. All in all a great hotel not far from the centre.
Bad News in Bologna
The advance booking price was a total scam. Paid almost 2X the rack rate that was available when checking in. The rooms were 3 star minus at best and the amenities were as meager and cheap as one could imagine. Keep your expectations for Florence or other nearby digs as Bologna is a bust. PS food was not the epicurean capitol of Italy. The hotel has only 3 employees max. that work hard to try to do too much as only 2 are present at any one time (inc cleaning and maintenance)and sometimes are single staffed. The owner needs to get out and see what's happening in the hostelry trade today.
A great character hotel
Very neat character experience.
pleasing hotel in centre
We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel was perfectly placed for sight seeing, the room was comfortable and the breakfast choices good. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. We would recommend this charming hotel to anyone who prefers a small boutique style hotel.
Good bed and breakfast, poor hotel
Perhaps I had unrealistic expectations, but given the amount of money (paid upfront) I felt very let down. This is a VERY overpriced bed and breakfast. Of the three staff, two spoke English and were pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, there were building-wide power cuts roughly every two hours and the air conditioning did not work. I was told that an electrician would be coming by soon, but looking through reviews of the past year I realise this is a longstanding claim. Sad to say that I cut my week in Bologna short by two days because of this hotel.
Quirky!
Cannot fault this hotel in any way. We've stayed in many hotels all over Europe and have to say this is one of the vest. The room was very 'different' (room 42) - having its very own balcony overlooking the bedroom area! The shower was wonderful and the facilities were exellent. The concierfe/porter/receptionist was a lovely chap - very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The walk into the 'main' city area was a bit of a distance, but well worth it as its situation was quiet. Take a good pair of comfortable walking shoes/trainers/boots for the city itself!
small intimate and friendly. Easy walking distance to centre
Good hotel for exploring Bologna on foot
Great welcome and helpful throughout our stay. Hotel and our room were quiet night and day. We felt the hotel let itself down with detail; the bathroom door would not close as screws were missing, the lights over the bed had half their lamps missing and we had to chase these up. The bathroom basin was cracked. That said if we go back to Bologna we would stay there again.
A pleasant surprise!
We started our tour in Bologna because it's got an airport! However, little did we know that it's got a lot more gaining on that that..a pleasant surprise. The hotel is in a great location inside the city walls and a short walk in the portico's to the centre of town. It is clean and the room was large. We parked our car in the street around the hotel for E10/night. Take the portico'ed walk up the hill to the duomo.
Small friendly hotel.
Comfortable characterful rooms. It was at a quiet time in August, so perhaps different staff and atmosphere. Some staff were excellent. I would definitely stay again. Breakfast is always included.
Subpar
It's in a quiet area of Bologna and easy to walk to the city center. The amenities were lacking (wifi never worked) and the shower didn't drain properly. Next time I would stay somewhere else.
Great hotel - quiet and close to town centre
Hotel was perfect for us clean quiet and well managed. It was about 10-15 mins walk to the town square under covered walkways so not too hot!
Doesn t deserve its stars
Wifi very poor, definitely not good for business purposes. They claim SPA is cincluded in the service, so you choose this hotel expecting to have SPA like in many other hotels in the world. Once there you realise that you have to pay for it, and quite a lot. Plastic breakfast, all packaged good, a mini fridge which doesn 't close properly with inside some yogurts that look like they suffer from temperature changes. Loads of cakes and pastry in a buffet, no healthy food. Parking impossible. They claim to have it, but only two spaces are available in front of the hotel. Neighbourhood good, it's very centric. But this is the only plus of the hotel.
Nice small hotel in old town Bologna
Great hotel on the out skirts of the old town. Easy to find and only a 19 minute walk to the shops, bars and restu rants in the middle of town. Hotel is small and quiet. Breakfast was interesting, nice selection of yoghurt, fruit juice, cold mests, cheese and croissants with pizza, cake and a pot of the strongest coffee ever seen. Rooms decorated brightly, on suite excellent with amazing waterfall like shower. Tea and coffee facilities in room disappointing and iron leaked water, but everything else good. First class helpful staff
Room large, brightly and comfortably appointed. Easy walking distance from everything. Staff great and breakfast buffet very good. This hotel changed our view of Bologna from past stay!
Good location close to the main sqauare
Very pleasant stay. Hotel close to all the sights although taking a bus part way to San Luca is a good idea. Plentiful breakfast and reception always manned. Very helpful staff.
Very nice
Very nice and friendly hotel, enjoyed our stay, it was a little out of town but only about 10-15 min walk so not a big deal
Great hotel in very charming part of city centre
Had a wonderful stay. The hotel staff was very helpful. Location was ideal next to the piazza santo stefano in charming part of city centre. Wifi was slow but accessible
Nice hotel but...
The hotel is quite nice and in good condition, the location is just barely into a traffic limited area and they request 25 euro per night for parking (that sounds a bit too much)The staff is helpful and nice, but the walls are way too thin: I had a child running over my head for a good part of the afternoon and a guy listening music or tv and speaking quite loud in the night
close to the center but not a very good stay
Very small rooms, prison like corridors and rooms, no carpet, poor lighting. Room door was difficult to open, room was noisy. Tiny shower with minimal space and unsafe glass door. I could not wait to leave. Parking attendant told me they would charge me €20 for parking, but hotel receptionist charged me €25 and provided me with no parking receipt (odd...). Very interested that I paid him and not the parking directly (double odd) I would not stay here again and my best advise for expedia travellers is to choose many other great options around Bologna. This particular hotel needs to learn a thing or two before they can cater properly to their guests.
Over priced.
The hotel is way over priced for its facility. The room had residents apartments above it with kids playing all the time from 6 am and too much noise. The room was not cleaned well. A lot of dust, some flies in the bathroom. The room also smelled old and not fresh.
Could be a wonderful place
Obviously a very frustrated decorator worked on the rehab here. Totally non-functional room and bathroom. Lighting inadequate. Shower ridiculously equipped. Sink a disaster. Black mold all over shower base perimeter. Beds so uncomfortable that we slept until 11:00am at the next hotel since we hadn't slept in 4 nights. Pillows atrocious as well. Strangest elevator ever seen. Must hold button to call until it arrives. Must hold it until desired level reached. Hurst your fingers to do so.
bad experience
Poor customer service
Charming and convenient
I absolutely loved this little hotel, and if I return to Bologna will stay there. It is on the edge of the historic town center, but convenient to major roads. Parking was not difficult, and there is a garage nearby if you can't find street parking. The service was very good. The room was extremely comfortable and charming. And the price was excellent. I was very pleased with my stair here.
Convenient but tired
Good location but needs some work on the rooms. Free breakfast very simple. Staff very helpful. Small supermarket just next door. Parking at end of road worked well at extra cost.
Nice little place...
The city is beautiful and hotel's location is great to explore it.
Nice hotel 10 minute walk to City Centre
Very stylish in looks but not very practical, our shower leaked water all over the floor. Not much atmosphere in the hotel. Breakfast buffet was poor.
9 days in Italy
Excellent staff!!!!......only a handful of staff run this hotel so they definately get to know their guest and treat them like family. This is more like a boutique B & B.....will for sure stay here again.
Convienent location , great find!
We chose this hotel because it was in close proximity to where our son was studying abroad in a Master's program.....and it turned out to be a fantastic find in the heart if the "old city" of Bologna. The staff was absolutey wonderful during our entire stay of 6 nights. The rooms were beautifully and artistically designed yet the feel of the hotel was still historic as well.....just very well done! Very nice European breakfast included every morning...and no limit on the cappchino and espresso coffees.....we would most certainly stay here again and look forward to it!
Review of our 4 day stay
We had a lovely 4 days at Il Convento. The staff were so friendly and the style of the reception and lounge, with the old convent decoration, was beautiful. The room was spacious and quiet and well appointed. Breakfast was simple but good (and plenty of it!). We are not sure that everyone would feel totally comfortable walking back to the hotel late at night/in the dark; the smaller streets aren't always very well lighted. However there were plenty of local people walking the same streets late in the evening so the area must be safe and we always felt fine. Bologna is a non-touristy place to visit, with a lively night-life and great shops and cafes. We would stay at Il Convento again!
Great place in bologna
Fantastic modern accommodation with great staff. They recommended a restaurant and made a reservation for us....I believe it was called Anitico Osteria Romabolgna...or something like that- it was am incredible dining experience!!! breakfast was also great! Extremely helpful staff that made us feel well take care of.
Good Hotel
We had a lovely room with a high vaulted ceiling and a large shower/ wc en suite. The staff were very nice and spoke good English. The location is not quite Central Bologna, but everything is pretty close, and whilst the street looks a little rough it is an ok area, the locals are friendly and the hotel is just lovely. Just down the road on Via Castiglioni is one of Italy's best gelato shops which is well worth a visit or two!
Delightful gem ... sleep in luxury!
I found this hotel while booking a last-minute trip to Bologna and it exceeded all expectations. It is centrally located in the heart of the old city and has the friendliest staff imaginable. Eliza at the front desk greeted us warmly upon arrival, helped us park easily in front of the hotel and guided all our eating decisions and tour help during our all-too-brief stay. She was indispensable and so kind. The room itself was perfect and had linen sheets that one only finds in 5-star hotels in Europe. We will visit agin when next in Bologna!
Lovely hotel full of character
Great stay, staff couldnt have been more helpful, and the hotel was really full of character.
We'd stay again.....
We stayed in the suite room which is on two levels and the layout is not ideal but, that said, we really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were superb and the location is quiet and within easy walking distance of the city centre. Hotel is clean and characterful. Breakfast is basic but enjoyable. The hotel is not a modern, slick, facility-rich, impersonal affair, rather a bit quirky and homely. In a word "delightful".
I loved this hotel!
Really nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are full of character, and reflect the historical nature of the bulding. Easy walk to Bologna city centre. Only downside is difficult parking, as it is everywhere in Bologna.
Great hotel while attending the Bologna Fiera
The hotel was centrally located, staff was very helpful and friendly. The decor was interesting, being a former convent.
Small unusual hotel with great staff
Very helpful staff who provided coffee and cake for breakfast when we were leaving before the official breakfast time. Room was a good size and I liked the funky decoration. Comfy bed, good shower and very good choice for breakfast. The room was very clean but we found it strange that room service had been in our rooms in the evening as well as the mornings. Slightly out of the very centre but i enjoyed the "local" style neighbourhood. We were the only tourists at the very basic bar a few yards away- not everyones choice of bar but 4 drinks were less than half the price we payed at a bar in a central piazza. Best gelato Ive ever had just around the corner too.
The reception staff was very friendly, the hotel is definitely not a 4 star Hotel and I don't understand how they manage to get that since everything is old and nothing modern, it looks like earlier was a church so it makes interesting the stay, I don't think I will be back but it was ok for a couple of nights.
Ruhig gelegen.
Ottima esperienza
IT was bedeutet only 500m to the Center of Bologna
In ottima posizione
Recomendable
Totalmente recomendable.
sehr freundliches, hilfsbereites Personal
The staff was very nice and the room was clean and big. We had cleaning every day. From the hotel, it is easy to get to the city center. The breakfast was not the best, but we liked the fresh made coffee in the morning.
God beliggenhed og charmerende hotel
God beliggenhed og charmerende hotel.
Perfekt boende nära gamla staden
Paghi 4 e prendi 2… stelle!!!
Peccato!!!
Blev meget skuffet over hotellets standard.
Sehr empfehlenswert
Individuelles, geschmackvolles Design. Sehr freundliches Personal.
Relax in centro
We had a very pleasant stay at Il Convento dei Fiori di Seta in Bologna. Staff was very kind and eager to help, our room was clean and large, breakfast standed out in our travels, with best and wide buffet and best service. The only potential issue was the hotel location, which is about 20 minutes from the city center. but that was not a problem for us.
