Not relaxing, would not recommend
The hotel can ‘host’ over 400 guests. It has 26 poolside sun loungers, most of them broken. It has 100 sun loungers on the beach. If you’ve managed to get any sleep on your wooden mattress, you have to set your alarm and join the queues at 7.50 every morning to get a beach sun lounger (tickets dispensed at 8.30) or a pool spot (opens at 9). This is not a way to start a holiday. You can’t even make a tea or coffee in your room to take with you into the queue unless you bring/buy your own kettle, milk, tea /coffee and mugs. Feel like complaining? The staff response is very mixed. Some people actually trying to help, others look at you like you’re the problem. My wife was pregnant during our trip so after not sleeping for a night or two I asked for a refund which seemed to put the manager out. Wouldn’t recommend the food for a pregnant, gluten-free person but for me it was okay. The restaurant area is cramped and loud with bright lights - no ambience at all. This hotel is at best, a tired 3 star hotel. At worst, it’s a daily 30-40minute queue for a sun lounger on a crowded beach where you can’t get your all inclusive drinks, or a longer queue for a broken sun lounger where you can. In the spirit of leaving a balanced review, the shower was good. We left the hotel with 2 nights left in the booking having been offered a refund by Expedia, which they have since reneged on.
The hotel was beautiful the staff friendly and helpful will definitely stay here again
Excellent hotel
When we arrived the staff were lovely, they provided all the relevant information needed. We arrived to our room and we had some door problems however they solved the problem and moved us to another room and assisted us as much as they can. The staff in each department are friendly and the hotel is clean.
Property looked a bit tired but served its purpose, clean with lovely staff
It was a lovely 4-star hotel, staff were welcoming and the communal areas, reception, bar etc were great. Clean rooms with working air con, comfy bed and balcony. We had a sea view (over/around the other hotels) and it is a 3 minute walk to the beach with free sun loungers for the hotel (get in early). Nice area to walk around, felt safe, and a well-kept promenade for evening strolls. The all inclusive had a variety of food each day alongside the usual salad and chips and varying drinks (just check what is included). It was a really nice place to spend our honeymoon, unfortunately we had to leave early due to a family emergency, which staff were very understanding about, so didn't get to try all the entertainment, spa facilities and see the sights. We will be back soon I hope.
4 star when it was built in 1970 maybe..
I travelled through Spain snd France staying at various types of accomodation during September 23. This place was the worst by a long way. The advert was nothing like the place I stayed in. I could go on for hours about how poor this place was and how dissapointing the staff and facilities were but for the first time ever I will be writing an official letter of complaint to the CEO to demand a partial refund.
Very nice personnel, the room was nice the breakfast was great for the right price
I loved how close it was to the beach
Fantastic hotel just arrived back home after booking 4 nights only last week. Staff are amazing and the all inclusive food and drinks We booked a superior room which was a nice layout and a very light and bright room Only negative was not being able to get a sun lounger as people where reserving them with there towels at 8.30 in the morning. Other than that we enjoyed sitting outside with our drinks
Great staff really friendly and efficient
I liked the pool and the bar
All was splendid, we loved the superior room. The only downside was that I was told in the evening the late check out is available, I called later in the evening (22/23) to book it and the night shift receptionist told me in an unusual manner he doesn’t have access to the system he needs (?) and in the morning it was no longer available. Still, we’ll definitely be back.
Pleasant stay
The food quality and variety was great. Waiters and waitresses did an impeccable job. The front desk, however, was rather unfriendly or untrained in customer service.
Hotel is ok. Nicely located. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly.
Food in the buffet was high quality but not hot. The butter was horrible. Too much fish and very little choice of vegetables. Fresh rolls were brick hard and toaster was very slow. No boiling water for tea. Had to purchase water with evening meal. Single room was great with a lage double bed and a fridge. Only news channels in English on TV but free wifi was excellent. Great location, handy for everything.
The hotel was spotless and constantly being cleaned. The food was excellent and a lot of fresh produce. The staff were very obliging, whether it was reception, bar or cleaning staff. We only stayed for the weekend. Next time we would like to stay at least a week. The beach is a 5 minute walk and the train station is about 15 minutes
Staff smartly dressed clear glasses empty ash trays reception polite manager very nice only fault photos displayed on Expedia aren’t factual we paid for room that photo displayed dining area in room this is wrong n no roof pool as described misleading it reason we upgraded n paid more our room was spotless quiet at night overlooked sea but over top of building opposite was 8th floor room 812 very nice walk in rain shower massive comfy bed small balcony pool small can only fit sun loungers at one side so went to beach food and dining good you have photograph passes for dining n bar when alenclusive n ur seated when checking in dining room over all very gud
Location and staff nice
Walls thin so if your neighbors are noisy it’s tough to sleep. Friendly staff and lots of options with breakfast. Good location to restaurants.
Was not impressed with the superior room the ordianary rooms are just as nice. They didn’t look a bit like the photos. I gave up my bath for a dressing gown and slippers the photos showed tables etc. I never use the free toiletries anyway so the special toiletries were of no use. The tv only has 3 news channels and one music channel so wether it’s a posh one or the ordinary one it makes no difference. I will still be going back next year as usual but just booking the normal room and not bothering with upgrading for the extra money and no bath.
Terrible service - kitchen was not sure about what was vegetarian and what was not and served me non-vegetarian on the first day but luckily I spotted it early. The head person there was also quite moody with us just for asking what is vegetarian and in terms of hot food it was only chips but second day luckily there was some pasta too but mainly had to just eat the salad there. Their break was quite good. I think for a meat eater it is quite good with a lot of variety but they should also try accommodate vegetarians especially because we had asked before booking and even whilst checking in. Reception on check-in the guy was a bit rude but the day after there were two ladies who were nice. On the first day we actually went to the hotel across the road to ask for question as their staff was nicer and much more helpful even if we were not staying there. They like to charge for everything, even use of sauna which is ridiculous for a 4star. Water is not provided during dinner for half-board which doesn't make sense as it is provided for breakfast?
Excellent staff - very polite and professional. Fresh food cooked on the grill and chef marvellous. Plenty of everything - good variety of cuisine.
great hotel
nice and clean hotel staff always ready to help
Just a very clean simple hotel, no major frils though good service, helpful staff, very clean rooms and comfy beds.
A really lovely hotel very well appointed and smart interior. Rooms are of a good size with fridge and soft chair + balcony. It’s close to the centre of Calella and all amenities of the local shops and restaurants. The WiFi is a problem as it’s constantly off in all areas of the hotel not just the bedroom. There is a wide variety of food in the restaurant, buffet style, and probably that can be a problem, a little less but more quality would be a lot better.
well worth a return visit
hotel is one of the best in Calella excellent staff very freindly apmosphe and great location for the beach bars and restaurants
Well appointed hotel, if a bit dated. Great service for meals and drinks. The pool and sun loungers are too small for the number if guests
Restaurant staff was really nice! Hotel is close to the beach and main city center which is really comfortable. But they don't provide bottles of water in the room, also the gym is really tiny, can't do any workout there.
Nice hotel except for the evening meal which was tapas based
Ok...
Nice staff but hotel a little tired. No safe or tea/ coffee making facilities in the room. Sauna and jacuzzi nice We had a lovely time but hotel needs a bit more to qualify as 4 star
titanic themed nice hotel
very nice hotel themed on the titanic well i imagine it would have looked like that from the film
very good staff excellent food lovely nothing to much trouble
Nice hotel, close to amenities & beach
Hotel was good, but the food was a let down. I was there for 3 days and there was the same soup for lunch & dinner, also a lot of fish on the menu.
Great location
Good hotel and great value . \The only problem i had was our patio door to our balcony didnt lock this meant we had to buy a key for the safe so was a problem . But the hotel was in a great location and was good value for money
Bad reception on arrival
We experienced a very bad reception on arrival, very rude person staffing front of house, which compacted on the rest of our stay, we have stayed at H Top hotels six times in the last six years, three of them being at the Amaika, this visit we found out loyalty counts for nothing, that will be the last time we will stay with them. adios
Good family hotel & close to the beach.
Stayed with myself and 2 young sons. They liked the titanic theme very much. Seemed a bit dated to me.
Close to beach
Nice hotel. Food selection good at meals. Night time entertainment leaves a lot to be desired, although the magician act is superb
Lovely holiday
Amazing time, lovely weather, very close to the beach!
Great hotel!!
Very nice place and very nice staff!! Perfect location! Can't wait to go back.
OK but it's not value for money
It's annoying that everything has to be charged and paid for on the spot rather than put on the tab. The staff don't have a good command of the English language so that I thought I had arranged parking and when I realised I hadn't, was treated shabbily as if I were trying to get free parking. I was not a pleasant experience when the receptionist, Teresa, began to raise her voice. Internet access is good but again you have pay on a daily basis and connections don't always go through immediately.
Beach holiday
Only here two nights but didn't sleep a wink. Rooms very tired and dated, walls paper thin making sleep impossible.
Very good value, close to beach
It was okay, but in all fairness very good value for money
Money grabbing
Emailed hotel to say we had a car plus small trailer they charged us for two car parking spaces when the car park was practically empty all day and night could not access the bath shower far too small to actually wash in which I complained about but they only wNt to take your money and not have you complain, hence will NOT stay there again.
Needs managing!
I felt the hotel had all the amenities there but they were not properly managed, i.e. the food selection was good but unfortunately 'cold'! The condition of the bathtub in the room was thick with rust and mould around the top edge (rust doesn't happen overnight!!!) Paid for a parking spot which was unusable because there was broken glass everywhere.
Not a 4 star hotel.
We arrived late evening, after waiting approx 20 mins in line, night receptionist, ( older man) couldn't find our booking, eventually, he gave us a room for the night, and asked the we contactwith reception in the morning. Don't know whose problem it was, but it was sorted out, we were given the same room for our stay. Hotel needs a lot of attention, reception and immediate entrance look alright, but the rest is very tired looking , bed clothes quiet worn, our wash band basin was cracked. Dining room was the strangest ever. I know it was a busy week for them, ( Ironman competition) but all food is not in line, it's in several different places in the dining room! And the really need to get someone that can cook an egg! And they ran out of cups! All that said, after the first night, the staff were lovely, and hotel is perfectly situated, near beautiful beach, restaurants and lots of shops! I would go there again, butI defiantly not a 4 star hotel, almost 3 star.
We've stayed 3nits but it was too much. Food choice is very very limited especially for kids. Wifi is the worst in the world. Every minute you've to sign in and sign in . The pool is too small , not worth it .
Central location
Hotel used by tour groups. Staff very friendly and helpful. Short distance to beach and town centre.
good place to stay
great value hotel and a very pleasant stay overall
Great location with a very short walk to the beach
Great Holiday in a traditional part of Spain on the coast, good shopping nearby, train station is close that gives you a 40 min ride into Barcelona.
Old hotel with terrible buffet and crowded
Room small and not as marketed. Buffet empty short after letting people in. Food not good and cheap ingredients. Hotel facilities not near what you expect from four stars. Terrible experience overall.
Standard airport hotel but check the aircon early!
Very close to T2 at Barcelona airport but be aware there are 3 terminals with a 10 minuted transfer by bus between T1 and T2/T3. So not really suitable if you are flying from T1. Hotel is modern and clean. The rooms are spacious and the king size beds are huge! The main failing is the staff. The Aircon in the room did not work meaning the we just could not get the temperature below 32 degrees. We rang reception twice and the solution offered was "open the window". Staying in a very busy airport hotel with the window open was even worse than trying to sleep in a puddle of your own sweat.
A great time away for the family
It was my first visit to Spain and after reading reviews of the hotel decided to book there for their high rating on family friendly environment and closeness to the beach. It was a wonderful experience, spent 3 nights in the hotel - late February 2015 to early March. Hotel staff were exceptional, service was great and truly enjoyed my time there. It was mum's birthday and she got a glass of bubbly at the bar which was great. We all had a great time , thanks to the hotel staff.
very good
Perfect location, right near the sea front with plenty of bars and restaurants near by. Friendly staff and wide selection of food included in half board.
Good location, close to the beach, nice staff
Most of the staff was really friendly. The location is very good as it is very close to the beach and market/shops/restaurants. There were activities available within the hotel but you have to inquire as you are not told in detail about them. Variety of food was available with different menu everyday. It would be helpful if halal food and vegetarian options are made available. And these should be separate and clearly labelled. The room was nice and made up everyday. The towels were quite thin and most of them passed their life. Bathroom was OK but clearly needed maintenance and upgrade which could be a bit frustrating. Overall good experience. It is a nice area but its a pebble beach (near the sea water) which can be frustrating so better take a good pair of appropriate footwear or find a close by sandy beach.
Close to beach
My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The resort was perfect for us, not too busy or noisy but lively enough. The hotel was clean, most staff were very friendly. The food was very good, lots to choose from, always hot and great choice of salads. The evening entertainment wasn't really great but we decided to go out anyway so maybe we missed the best of it. I'm not sure I would take my children to this hotel... The pool is small and no children's facilities but I would recommend this for couples.
Great food, rubbish pool area!!
We stayed in a family room, 2 teenage kids and me and my wife. Having always had a separate bedroom before, it was a little cramped and didn't leave much room for privacy, That aside, the room and Hotel generally was immaculately clean. The main Hotel was also very clean and had plenty of seating in the bar and reception areas. Reception staff were friendly enough, but not very forthcoming with information to help or about trips. Bar and restaurant staff were friendly on the whole, but one or two were a bit miserable, but did seem to work very long hours, so not always surprising under the circumstances. The restaurant was a bit like a cattle market sometimes with some very rude people and staff who didn't seem that interested in helping seat you. That said, the quality and variety of the food was generally very good. Fresh fish, grilled meats, casseroles, rice, pasta, salads and Spanish food making up a very good buffet style lunch and dinner with full English available every day. All inclusive was generally good with a card system in place with which you could only get 2 drinks at a time. The real let down was the small pool and pool area. The usual towel on sunbed problem exists with there not being enough room to sunbath or swim, though the beach is only 100m away. Overall, a great little 'town' Hotel with a bit of noise after 12 if you face the pool side. Great food, clean Hotel and generally friendly staff who work very hard. If you need privacy, then book 2 rooms!
Poorly Managed Hotel
The rooms are very small for a family (two adults and two children). Staff did not clean well the room. But most disappointing was bad quality of staff to support guests. We had serious issues with our car and parking near the hotel because staff were not responsive at all to our inquires and were not willing to support us. Later hotel manager escaped to meet us several times to clarify the issue. It was very disappointing.
Fantastic Spain and Amaika
If you are coming from Barcelona Airport, there are 3 ways you can get to Calella: a) Train - with 2 changes. From Barcelona to Sants(20 min), and Sants to Calella(1 hr). Cost about 3.5 Eur in total per person. We took this option but I don't recommend this as it was quite hectic with kids ! It is almost 15 min walk from Barcelona Airport to the train station, and was quite tiring, and trains were busier. We were lucky we got a seat ! Get down at the Calella station, and you can walk down along the beach to get to the Hotel in about 15 min. But we took a taxi, cost only 6 Eur. Would recommend taking a taxi tho' if travelling with little ones. b) Book Shuttle (recommended). We tried this on our departure day from Hotel Amaika to Airport, and certainly very good. The hotel booked this for us for 20Eur per person ( including kids ). You can get at a cheaper rate if booked early from the internet. c) Take Taxi - Cost 120Eur one way. If you are not staying for lunch, you can get it packed.Really nice and saves you few Euros ! Just remember to talk to the reception for packed lunch the day before. (possibly before 7pm) The bar was very good. You can have 2 drinks with the AI card at one go. Not a problem for us. Also. there was live music almost everyday after supper.
4* hotel........more like 2*-3* at a big push!
If reading the this review you just want some quick basic advice. In our opinion DO NOT pick the half / full / all inclusive it is a waste of money! The hotel it self is in a good location and is well maintained - the rooms are nice and clean and the beds are made and fresh towels provided. Calella is a lovely town and there is lots to do and has a wonderful beach about a 2 min walk away. To get to Barcelona is easy by train. The train station is a 15-20 min walk and it is 1 hour from Barcelona. Regarding the services provided is very different. The reception staff are polite and helpful but all the other staff e.g restaurant and bar staff are just plain rude and make you feel very unwelcome. We booked 3 nights Full broad and our money was wasted. The food was terrible! It was pure graul - drinks also were very over priced. The swimming pool area is small and there was only about 20-25 sunbeds - only problem was - the hotel has notices around stating that you couldnt use towels to save seats around pool. This was not " noticed" by a lot of guests and when you complain to staff they didn't want to know. If all you want is a hotel as base (sleep and shower) so you can adventure out around Barcelona this is a good hotel to choose as it is cheap but don't be swayed by anyone to think otherwise on the food option. We guarantee you will be wasting your money!!!!
Clean and comfortable hotel. Staff very friendly, good location.
The Hotel close to the beatch but not 4 stars
The hotelcondition is not as expected from 4 starts hotel. We had only breakfast and if the other meals are they same I would recommend to use the various resturants outside. The room are ok but again not as expected from 4 starts e.g. the curtains had holes so daylight entered early morning.
Fabulous Birthday Weekend
Visited the H.Top Amaika weekend of 16-19 October and had a fabulous time. The hotel is very well maintained and very clean. The staff were very helpful - we were a group of 9 and the restaurant staff gave us a large table at every meal time - the bar staff were very friendly. There is a rule for only 2 drinks at any one visit to the bar but this was acceptable. The hotel is well sited - the beach is only a couple of minutes walk away - and is also near to the shops. Because we could use the amenities of other H.Top hotels nearby we used the sun terrace and hot tubs at the H.Top Calella Palace which is only about 10 minutes walk away - the only problem was that the terrace bar closed for the season the day before we arrived and there was usually only one person behind the main bar and consequently there were always long queues. If you want to use the restaurant at another H.Top hotel you will need to book a day in advance.
not aplace to relax
hotel looks very good when you arrive but not a place to relax if you want to lay by the pool good if you want to go to the beach which is close by The pool area is very small with not many sunbeds or seating so very difficult to sunbathe at hotel almost impossible to sit outside at night again due to hardly any seating i would have to say unless you want a beach holliday dont stay at the amaika
Calella - a big change from 40 years ago
Top Amaika Hotel was a good value for the money HOWEVER the wall are very thin. Some guests are NOT considerate. I brought this up to the management. Although we asked for a quite room, our neighbors were not. Three meals were included in the very reasonable rate ... plenty of food served buffet style. The beach is within one block. We stayed for three nights. We took the train from Barcelona and then walked 15 minutes to the hotel.
Would use this Hotel again
enjoyed our stay but food could have been better quality allthought there was plenty of it, and pool is small, service and cleanliness of hotel excellent
All inclusive ateriat monipuoliset ja ruuat hyviä!

Volveremos a ir . Nos a gustado mucho. Las animadoras excelentes. Los trabajadores excelentes y también los camareros.
👍👍👍
Todo muy bien en general. Instalaciones y personal correcto
He estado genial. Gracias

Overall we enjoyed our second stay here, the all inclusive is really good if you don't mind only a slightly varied menu and the usual drinks. Staff were all polite and helpful, fun too! The spa is nice but the water in the jacuzzi could be warmer. Last year our room was in better condition and seemed cleaner than this year but you do get wear and tear. The area feels safe and 5 mins from the beach with loungers/umbrella, there is a train that beeps about every half hour running alongside the beach but not annoying. Also check for festivals/Iron man as it gets very busy and loud on the street just next to the hotel. Fireworks were fab though! Some shops/bars/restaurants nearby and a few things to visit too. All in all a great place to stay!
